John Darnielle really said "even things that permanently and intentionally mark you will fade away if you keep working in the light" in the same album as "everything you do will have permanent effects on others from the moment you start" and "some things in life are inevitable by virtue of living in it" and now I will never stop thinking about those funky horns

zac asking if cassandra and ankarna ever had a kid… the possibility of helio being a son of ankarna, another deity of the sun and then was forcibly co-opted by sol to create a sub-religion and expand his influence and diminish ankarna’s… helio being a child of cassandra (doubt) and then making kristen his chosen one, who has a journey of doubt until she finds and revives cassandra… ankarna being corrupted by her followers desires for conquest and helio’s followers having a similar history… I don’t think this is what happened but it’s cool as shit right

okay wait so im having a bit of a crisis over how crowley fell. my man says "i only asked questions" in one breath, and then "i just hung around the wrong people". then about the fall itself, "i just sort of... sauntered... vaguely downwards'", but then "did a million-light-year, freestyle dive in to pool of burning sulphur!"
so which is it, crowley? my buddy my pal? which shitshow actually happened here?
well, only one of these remarks was in front of aziraphale. funnily enough, the one about it being a leisurely stroll into hell like he owned the place. the others, the wrong friends, the asking questions and the horrific crash landing into dis or wherever was alone, only to the camera.
has crowley been trying to protect aziraphale from knowing not only was the fall incredibly painful and frightening, but that also protecting aziraphale from the knowledge that even though aziraphale warned him not to, he went and asked questions anyway? that in essence, aziraphale failed to save crowley?
alternatively, are all answers wrong, and crowley is either lying, or doesn't remember why/how he fell? did he even technically fall at all (reawakening theory that crowley fell for a reason -- see reason: god's ineffable plan -- and she wiped his memory of it)? crowley still has wings, and presumably the other demons don't - is this why he does?
edit bc important: "I play an ineffable game of my own devising..." 👀

one of my classmates went on an absolute rant about why dolphines are fake and individualistic and shouldn’t be trusted, and while it was extremely endearing, i think that’s exactly how armin would get when asked about his least favourite animal

Lmao Alastor is the first character I can confidently say is giving "I'm fucking with your wife" like we are conspiracing a revolution and not "I'm fucking your wife" to Lucifer
And I'm incredibly pleased

I don't get why people hate the timeline so much, its not like you can't pretty much completely ignore it when you play the games. The only time it even approaches mattering to the story is when there is an explicit sequel like botw and totk or zelda and zelda 2
Hey sorry your ask got lost in the sauce of my broken tumblr, but: yeah!
I mean, I get why in some sense. It's been a heated point of debate and I think some people understandably resent the space it has taken not only in fandom discourse, but in how people began to understand the game and its narrative aesthetic choices. There is such a thing as over-rationalizing everything to hard logic, and sometimes it's just not the fandom for that --especially when you begin to forget it's all just fan theory and start to forget what the games are supposed to be like and evoke beyond just strict facts displayed in a linear way.
What I think bugs me with TotK in particular is that it both evokes and relies on continuity and the idea of a timeline, of archeology, of history itself, while being so loose and vacant with it that it both is doing Timeline Shit while also completely failing to understand why some parts of the fandom were invested in Timeline Shit to begin with.
But that's just my two cents of course!
#asks#tloz#timeline#totk critical#thanks for the ask!#I do... feel two ways about that myself#I think pure evocation is genuinely one of zelda's greatest storytelling strengths#that mood is sufficient and enough in itself and doesn't always need justification#it is the way the games center story --and that's genuinely wonderful and a strong take on narrative in games#as something freeflowing and accompanying gameplay rather than the opposite#and to ignore that and focus on hard facts all of the time kind of misses the point of the games' stories to a degree#BUT#I also get quite annoyed at the weird condescencion towards fans that do decide to engage with the stories more factually#especially since this is either revelatory regarding some of nintendo's choices#(that the aesthetics of evil are so tied to The Desert TM while taking so many inspirations from european fairy tales for example)#(it's not neutral even if we ignore ingame “lore”)#or just a great fodder for creativity and narrative play#and it is a part of the IP too!! just as much as dungeons and items and musics and curiosity-driven exploration!!#I do have beef with people not resonating with that aspect thinking others that do so are just stupid or childish#and that you can only have an enlightened relationship with zelda if you like it “the right way”#(which is somehow always mechanics/logic-driven which is. interesting to me.)#(or in a completely passively aesthetic way as in “I like fairies they're pretty”)#but you know it's the weird Triforce Shirt Dude stigma thing#that notion that you can (and must!) Love Zelda Deeply and Defensively#but you cannot be *passionate* about Zelda#then it's weird and immature#I don't know I feel like there's a lot to analyze in that arbitrary dychotomy#anyway sorry for the mega novel in the tags!!

i've come to the realization that the reason basically all humanformer designs for Jazz leave me cold is: i do Not believe that man is young. he is the coolest 50+ guy you know, and a lot of his cool comes from being the cool older guy specifically. this feels, to me, Vital to his character. if you draw him looking young i'm like. nah, noone in their 20s would pull it off like that. tbh.

hey❤️ I hope you are well! if it's not too much trouble I need to advice. what would you suggest using in a truth spell to bring hidden information/secrets to the light?
thank you for your help
My instinct with such spells is always exposing something to sunlight, usually in the form of leaving something sitting out in sunbeams until it feels "done."
Here's something to try:
On a piece of paper, write down the thing you want brought to light or discovered. Include pertinent details like time, place, persons involved, and so forth. You could use a command or phrase it as a question, whichever makes more sense to you. ("This spell will reveal the party responsible for X." vs "Who is responsible for X?")
Soak dried or fresh rosemary in water with a few drops of lemon juice overnight to create a simple potion. I find rosemary is helpful for clarity and lemon juice always reminds me of that old spy novel trope of the secret codes written in lemon juice that only show up when the paper is exposed to the heat of a flame.
Place the paper face-up and flat on a plate or shallow dish and strain the rosemary-lemon water over it until the paper is just covered. Leave the plate in a sunny spot where it won't be disturbed until all the water evaporates and the paper is fully dried out.
If the information you seek does not come to light within about a month, try the spell again with different parameters or different phrasing.
Of course, you can always try your usual methods of divination alongside or instead of this spell, and employ whatever practical fact-finding measures you may have access to.
And as with all revelatory magics, be careful what you wish for. Be sure the question you're asking is one whose answer you're prepared to know.
Hope this helps!

Herrick tells mitchell that the reason he decided to make him the offer and make him a vampire rather than just slaughter him with the rest of his men was that he could see in him a terrible man. And whilst its not entirely untrue (mitchell largely proved him right), it's more the opposite. Herrick is inherently egotistical and he sees symbolism in beating mitchell when he's trying to be good. He wants to destroy that 'vein of decency' in mitchell to turn him into a reflection of himself. Part of the satisfaction in that comes from the fact that before mitchell was nothing like him, most blatant in the josie flashback episode. The deal was a test, and mitchell passed by being good enough to trade himself for the lives of his men. Then comes a near century long process of warping this and making mitchell into a mirror of himself. Which is he largely successful at, and why he can't just leave him to go and try to make a human life. And mitchell can't quite let go of herrick either because trying to be nice now doesn't erase his history. mitchell also never really convinced himself that he'd be able to stay clean, and when he inevitably failed to do and struggled to face george and Annie, herrick would still be there
