Here’s that tutorial video I mentioned a couple weeks ago, btw :). Gosh, I love doing dirty pours. Honestly, shout out to @angeryspaghett (Syzygy Dice) who, more than 2 years ago when I was first starting dice making answered an ask I sent asking how to get thin lines in my dice with a full blown written out tutorial. I’ve been trying to emulate that sense of sharing and excitement about teaching other people about dice making ever since :)

Ok, I promise I'm done painting tiny fish! 🤞
There was a bit of negative space in the water of my Mordheim board that didn't have a skull or rusty weapons or sunken barrels and it was really bothering me. Usually there was a thing of interest in the water every 1 to 2 inches but there was this 4 inch gap that was really bugging me and I wanted to add something there before I pour the resin water (still waiting for the damn mod podge to dry after 4 days).
Anyway I was at this Science Supplies store during my lunch break and they had these very tiny sharks that were perfect and only like 50 cents each. I painted them up really quick and glued them to the board. With these I think I am done adding details to the water. I'm hoping I can add the resin water this weekend, I'll see if I can get a video when I pour the resin.

Greetings, fellow adventurers and dice hoarders! It's Lambert from URWizards here, your resident dice designer and conjurer of gaming wonders. 🧙‍♂️✨
I'm absolutely stoked to take you on a little journey deep into the heart of our latest creation – a dice set inspired by the ferocious beauty of a volcano's wrath. 🌋
Let's embark on this tale of craftsmanship and elemental passion:
An Idea is Born
Tumblr media
We scoured through a mountain of volcanic eruption videos and photos, and even though I've never ventured to an actual volcano, these materials made us believe that a volcano holds an infinite inner strength. It's much like most of us, right? Perhaps we haven't had our momentous eruption yet, but that inner flame and the dreams of our childhood are still burning bright, aren't they?
Molding the Myth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After poring over a volcano's worth of materials, my colleague and I have chiseled out the base molds for our dice set, each with the distinctive pattern only Mother Nature could etch. Varied as the layers of the earth, these textures stretch from peak to base, a hallmark of the great outdoors on a miniature scale.
But don't let the rugged exterior fool you. Like fitting square pegs in round holes, we've ensured that these designs hold the same density as the resin they'll marry, because in the world of D&D, balance isn't just a virtue; it's the name of the game.
Igniting the Palette
After a dozen splattered trials, we finally got the hang of bringing our volcanic dice to life – and let me tell you, it's as delicate as defusing a bomb with a feather.
You see, my hands became a living canvas, often speckled more than a Jackson Pollock knockoff. While painting, one overly enthusiastic stroke and the pigment would go rogue, flooding into canyons we never meant to explore.
Sure, real lava doesn’t play by the rules – it flows where it pleases – but here in the URWizards’ workshop, every stream of molten color is plotted like it’s got a GPS tracker on it.
But we nailed it! Each fiery path now sits exactly where we wanted, a testament to our ‘control the chaos’ mantra. The end result? Dice that look so hot, they could melt your face off – in a good way, I promise! That night, I was so jazzed up, sleep didn’t stand a chance.
Carefully applying the paint. Little volcanoes in the palm of my hand.
Casting the Core
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last hurrah in our dice-making shindig is the resin pour – sounds easy-peasy, right? But hold onto your hats, because we're not just making dice; we're birthing miniature volcanoes here. We're going for that ‘just erupted’ vibe, aiming to bottle up that smoky after-party glow that lingers like the best kind of rumor. The goal? To have that smoggy dance, twirling up with the magma like it's auditioning for a spot in the air ballet. 🌋✨
Tumblr media
We've equipped this product with a sophisticated box, the Black Magnetic Rigid Gift Box, as many of our users cherish gifting our products to their most beloved. This magnetic gift box snugly fits a full set of dice—and there's room for a few extras, too.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much if you actually follow here. I know it is quite long for a post lol.
Please comment on this, any comment is very valuable for us.
If you have some great design ideas, feel free to share them with us; let's explore together and turn dreams into reality.

So.....unfortunately I'm gonna have to call my first pour with the new mold a failure. But, I can say this time it's 100% nothing to do with the mold.
Tumblr media
The mold is from the amazing people at Druid Dice, and don't let my first attempt dissuade you, they make amazing products. I think they just work much better with a pressure pot, which I don't have. So this pour ended up with a TON of bubbles, especially on the top faces
Tumblr media
So until I get a pressure pot, I'm going to experiment with more liquidy resins and slower pours and hopefully I can get some better sets until I save enough for a pot. I did like the colors though
Tumblr media
So definitely not a viable set to give to anyone but hey, it's a first pour with a new mold. Gonna just keep trying and improving. I'll post more results as I do them. But regardless, I am over the moon about the mold and I highly suggest others to check out their youtube videos and products. Lots of good tutorials as well.

Finished Soul Gem holder with the first set of gems, which were very instructional. I ended up wet-sanding the gems, and on reflection, should have cleaned out the exposed tiny bubbles that had picked up resin dust (they're all a smattering of tiny white dots now) with a toothbrush before applying clear-coat. I applied clear-coat because there were some spots in the gems which clearly did not fully cure and I did not want any continuous oozing; I don't know if this will fix the issue but we'll see (they are solid enough).
Also, the clear-coat tells you that you can handle them after an hour, but next time I'm going to let it go for far longer (when flipping them over, the still not-totally-hard clear-coat would stick to the platform, which also had clear-coat on it, so it made little pools of opaque stuff that I had to sand off).
Other lesson learned, besides "do not reuse your sanding paper; just throw it away and move to a new sheet" (thank you Adam Savage): sanding sucks and you should move heaven and earth to make sure you have to do as little of it as possible.
With respect to bubbles: the Better Half insists it's possible to pour resin with no bubbles whatsoever (he's seen videos of "perfect pours", but cynical me suspects there's some off-screen shenanigans going on). But not only am I new at this, I'm also probably not making it easier by adding crushed mica sheets to the resin. I did pour #2 yesterday and am waiting to see if my technique improved (mixed much less color, mixed a much greater quantity of resin, mixed the parts together slowly for longer, overpoured the mold, etc). But I'm thinking that if I were doing this regularly, I might go the cheater's route and use technology (a vacuum chamber) because honestly, I don't think I have the time to perfect a no-bubble manual pour.

Prismatic Ooze
Set named with the help of @silverstellatus !! I've remade this set now, but this was my first attempt at making a petri-styled dice set! I've only seen one sped-up video of a person making dice in this style before, so I didn't quite have a grasp of how to avoid cure inhibition with the alcohol ink—I get it now, the trick is to add more resin on top of the alcohol drops, it seems. But this has cured all the way, the top just stayed rubbery a bit longer.
[Dice description: A 7-piece dice set featuring two d20s; one d20 is smaller than the other. The larger d20's 20 face is replaced with a simplified, geometric open eye. Its 1 face is replaced with a closed eye in the same style. The d6's 6 face shares the same open-eye design. There is no d4. The set is inked in slightly metallic neon green, with the highest numbers on each die painted in lilac, and the lowest in white. The top of the dice is a deep, solid purple, with purple tendrils/ink drops pouring down from it in a "petri"-style pour. The clear layer this is visible in leaks into a vivid green with a blue sheen. | End description.]

Do I only work on resin? Nope! I also work on vinyl dolls (and ABS).
This is a Smart Doll Chaos V01. in cocoa skin. I had to cut off the pour spout at the top, so that was an interesting challenge to work with. And then of course paint it naturally and with an illusion of a super short buzz-cut hair.
She's based on a video game character, but I am not sure which game or character, still fun to work on.
Want to see more of my work or commission me? Then please check out my website at www[dot]IzasFaceUps[dot]com!

I bought some dice molds a few years back because I pour resin at least weekly in my sign shop, usually more often. What a great way to use up excess resin.
Then I forgot about the molds for a few years. Until a couple days ago.
I know how it's supposed to be done. I get the steps. I have a minor in dice pouring from YouTube University after that many videos.
But fuck that, I'm finishing signs and tabletops for clients, I don't have time for toothpicks and pipettes and taking up the pressure pot with this shit. It'll be fine.
Tumblr media
It wasn't fine. Apparently, much like signs and tabletops, you actually have to do the things to make it work. So I know that now.
