There's this weird thing with like breaking expected routine that does things with stress. The 'touch grass' thing does it if you're daily routine doesn't involve it but like, randomly laying down flat on the floor in a place you normally don't, or running cold water over your hands, sort of plays this mind trick on your stress levels which has helped me multiple times from spiraling.

"why are you so weird?" Idk, maybe because being completely isolated while growing up has destroyed my brain and now I'm nothing more than a human-mimicking creature that bases all of my actions on what I think is normal human behavior rather than just doing things naturally

In one of the books, can't remember which, it's stated that there is a job some people have which entails cleaning the gunk from the walls of big pipes. (I believe it's sewer pipes but I may be misremembering.) They call the act of doing this "scrumming." I don't remember if they call the people "scrummers" or not but they do use the same word to refer to that job.

The strange implication, that I interpreted at least, is that if their world is like ours where the word "fucking" has a myriad of uses including referencing people having sex, then this universe has a word sometimes used to describe sex that is synonymous with the act of scraping shit off pipe walls.

Made up exclamations and/or swear words in fantasy novels:

Any variation of "saints" or "gods", perfectly acceptable.

"Tiger's tits", elite.

"Scrumming" to replace "fucking", absolutely fucking not. Jail.

This entire trilogy is hilarious and fantastic, and has such a fun take on "magic" that I haven't seen before. I fell in love with the first book so much that I pre-ordered the other two and got them on release day. I've recommended them to all my book friends.

Okay 200 pages into Foundryside now and, lmao.

Sancia gets away with hiding the incredible valuable relic everyone wants in her boot while getting interrogated by people who absolutely do not trust her. How? Well you see, the three of them are a) a noble scion who deals with his immense moral injury by spending every waking minute being the soul of chivalry b) a mad scientist who can't bear to touch blood (or filth, or poor people), and c) apparently just an incredibly repressed lesbian.

So basically she gets away with it because everyone was too awkward to actually strip-search her and just gave up after a cursory pat-down.

I am actually laughing.
