Reshelled Dolls

Having been in this crazy hobby since May 2011, I have accumulated quite a few dolls (current count as of Nov 12. 2023: 51), but not all have stayed. Some even got reshelled.

Most of my reshelled dolls completely replaced the original shell, except in the case of Ursa and Lily. I have both of their (very different looking) shells still in my collection, with each being a version of the OC they represent. The others were mostly sold, though a few got a different character assigned to them (Val 1.0 Head = Kass, Morgan 1.0 = Viola, Sam 2.0 Head = Ivy). Basically I reshell dolls when their characters outgrow their doll avatars so to say.

I even reshelled my first doll, Melody, who had been an Obitsu 60cm Gretel and is now a Doll Chateau Snow Nymph. The original shell was sold because I found I vastly preferred resin to vinyl, and because the character had fallen out of use/importance. So initially I didn't even intend to reshell her.

It's kind of funny how Melody came about to be reshelled. I instantly fell in love with the DC Snow Nymph upon seeing her pictures, but couldn't afford or justify her yet, but I knew I needed her. It took me a while to figure out why and who she needed to be, and then it clicked, she was Melody.

My wife (then fiancee) surprised me by ordering her on layaway as a wedding gift for me. Which is very special for many reasons, one being that Melody had been the first OC I created specifically to RP with my wife with (though we were only friends at that point, quickly becoming besties though). So it was only fitting that she became a wedding gift in 2015 from my wife (though it took her many more years to finally shell Darten, her husband, in 2019 I think?).

Anyway, do you guys have any reshelled dolls, and if so, why or why not?

We continue with the sketches here, as mentioned before these are based on the dolls I have and I think this post here will conclude the sketches I made in 2024 (maybe finished them in 2025 but the sketches were from before).

We have lots of Exorcists, Noah and ofc Allen. And some pumpkins inbetween.

Ally (AU) - Before the reveal of Bookman Jr this was how we all imagined past Allen to look like. In my AU he will forever look like this, I adore this doll and the character I created around it. He has actually the most expensive wig I ever made because the fiber alone was 70 bucks and I was kinda stressed not to waste any of it while I worked on it. From the Allen dolls he's the one I don't take on trips as I am super scared to scratch the face up or lose the glasses.

Road - It took forever to find a doll I liked for Road. I am super picky with girls, she is a bit out of scale with the other Noah due her big head but overall I really adore her. I think she is one of my overall favorite female dolls.

Wisely - Wisely is actually one of the Noah I like the most. His outfit consists of way too many parts and I would make it different by now ... he lacks photos, be blamed onto the fact other characters get more screen time and somehow he always falls through. He's kinda in the same place as Tyki T.T

Kanda - Kanda was not even planned to be honest. But as Little Monica went out of business (I know they are back now) I really wanted to get the last two heads I was eyeing for a while. One was the base for Kanda. He and Lenalee arrived as I wasn't home and it took me very long to get their bodies. I have to admit I didn't like Kanda much. I even skipped the Alma Arc as I first read it because it was too Kanda centered for my taste. But I think he's one of the best Dolls I customized, he climbed up the ranking for sure.

Lenalee - Same as Kanda she wasn't planned. And she gave me a huge headache, sewing for her and painting her was a pita. She's the only got who got TWO uniforms sewn, I kinda made my peace with her. But her body being horrible to start with didn't help much. From the two dgm girls she clearly can't stand a chance against Road.

Allen Campbell (AU) - As I had Ally I had a mighty need to get another doll from the AU as well. And I picked my Allen. It's a long story but let's say Allen gets kinda reborn and the Earl&Ally raise him then. I referenced the Design to Allen's canon outfit when he traveled with Mana but with a more sophisticated twist.

Sokrates - Another doll I got for the Pumpkin head... little did I know it would take 1,5 years to get the heads. I even pushed back getting a body for him as I was just fed up with everything. I will eventually learn to like him in the future.

Gomez - A little find on etsy, he follows the naming theme of my pumpkins to be inspired by halloween media. His name is taken from the Addams Family.

Adam - He's a mixture of what we see of Adam and my AU Variant of the 'healed' Millennium Earl, to make the cycle complete. All forms of the Earl so far have joined the crew.

Eddie - I snagged this cutie from his creator HallowChii as she parted from the few prints she had, I think it's maybe 5 of them out there? Eddie is Edwards grandchild and loves to listen to his stories.

Bookman - Weirdly Bookman grew on me as character and as the sculpt was released it screamed OLD MAN to me.. so I decided to create Bookman as a doll.

Eishi - Eishi is (while I write this) still a doll in progress. He's the former shell of Lavi I decided to keep but I made the promise to myself that I won't buy new resin without having an idea for the old shell if I reshell... I was lacking a level 3 Akuma, so, here we go.

So this boy is one of my fave ocs. I plan on eventually reshelling him but for now he's shelled with a soom doll.

His eyes are infact suppose to be blue. I bought this design for him ages ago for about 20$ because of how close it looked to how I had envisioned him. The eyes were the only part that didn't match XD.

OC: Diana, aka Dani

Dani is a typical case of 'OC outgrew doll-form". So, she'll be reshelled! Her new form will, hopefully, be here within a few months. I still adore the Miyu sculpt though, very much so. So I'm definitely keeping this doll :)

My Impldoll Azalea Elf in real skin got a new body and therefor she got a new faceup with a color match to 2D Doll normal yellow.

I love the new body, and the new faceup, but sadly the head is simply too small to fit on the 2D68 girl body, so I am saving up to buy a new androgynous and larger head for the body and reshell the character fully... The new faceup was a last ditch effort to try and bond with the hybrid configuration, but not even with photo angle tricks can I make it look good.

Quick comparison of her previous and current faceup. I am gonna be sad to wipe it again when I list it for sale. At least it is nice to see my improvement in the last several years!

I will wipe it and offer it for sale with a 50% off faceup of choice.

Even though I feel like I am close to finishing my collection/there are only a handful of sculpts left that I REALLY want, I have come to realization that I will never stop styling/planning for dolls. While this may seem like an “of course” kind of epiphany, I need to stress that I will likely NOT be reshelling any of my dolls/altering them that much… nor will I be looking at dolls but not buying them.

Instead, I absolutely know that I will fixate on and help out with dolls for my friends instead. Because I can ALWAYS justify spending when it comes to gifts, and my hyperfixations never die. RIP, but also I already am looking forward to it somehow!

Been having big lore revelation thoughts about Fable lately. Yesterday I found myself thinking, "but what if the reshell actually IS him a few years older? Would justify his new appearance story-wise!"

So, seeing what firmer brows, darker tones and his new eyeshape will do to him😊 (And had fun doing some traditional color again, like I said I should! >w<)

New eyeshape ?? YEAH, based on my current plans for him with a Myou Chelses!! Been looking around for the right sculpt to bring him home again, and I think it's about to finally happen!! ^w^

When I first got him (the doll) his character was 12, I think I was 14 at the time. And by the time I was 16, he'd evolved into being 14. The other day I was writing a little about him, about discovering he hadn't aged all that much, just a little, despite the decade-long slumber in his magical forest, hehe. So then it hit me; The reshell is an opportunity to not just bring him back- It'll actually be his next slightly grown version 😊❤️ Satisfying little detail: The Chelses is 3cm taller than his old shell >w< Cute~

i need a dollshe saint head so bad i keep watching all sales posts i can to see if one pops up…..decided i need to reshell one of my dolls as dollshe saint and it’s driving me mad

My 2D Doll 68cm girl body arrived recently, and it's a great and heavy body. The resin on the surface almost feels soft it's so nice, and the sculpting is beautiful too.

I got the large bust for my girl, and it really is "large". Like they broke the company box with how mighty they are! I'm honestly amazed I managed to get pants on her thunder thighs at all. It was a fierce battle between unforgiving firm resin and me pulling stretched to oblivion fabric pants over her thighs and butt. I won in the end though, but I hope I can get them off her again in the future...

Sadly this body does not suit the head (Impldoll Azalea) I got it for, as its jaw is much too slim for the thick neck (despite being made for a 10cm neck...). I tried repainting her (she needed to be color matched) but the proportions still bother me.

It's sad really because I love how this faceup turned out! It's almost sad I'm gonna sell the head as it means I will wipe the faceup (it is character specific). Oh well, I will enjoy this faceup until I purchase a new head in the coming months.

She looks so cool, but I just can't get used to the wonk proportions...

Anyway, in my quest for head sizes, I decided to try two hybrid ideas. Let's put those under a cut. The second set has upper body nudes.

1st:

I put my Simply Divine Thomas head on the body, which has the right neck measurements, and actually looks quite nice. This head is already claimed though, and Val would not appreciate switching sexes like this. He's very much a cis-man, but he does look good on this body too.

And 2nd:

I tried an Iplehouse EID Camilla head on the body, and size wise it is excellent. There is some major gapping from the side though, as Iplehouse bodies have massive necks that balloon at the top. That can be easily hidden though with camera angles and wigs.

If I ever feel like updating Queen Ursa's body (my Iplehouse Camilla on an nSID body in peach gold) this would be a good contender since it fits so nicely. I would get her a smaller bust size though, like medium.

Overall, I am happy with this body and it's posing, I'm just a little sad about the head not looking right on it. Oh well, I guess it is time to reshell Kaya too...

The ol’ doll plan list. I had originally planned to have a lot more of this shit done with by now, but then I decided to to reshell 2 dolls (one of which is Sachi, whom I’m waiting on Haru to open another preorder for E-minor), finally found a doll that could be turned into Reigen from Mob Psycho 100 and bought him, and then Fairyland released a horny head sculpt that I had to have. OTL

Once the pile of hands I just sent out to get dyed eventually get back to me, it’ll hopefully be in time for commission slots at Nocturne Doll Studio to open up so I can send them out again to get blushed bahaha. Least that’ll take off a decent amount of stuff from the list.

Some of my bjds are genuinely comforting to have around, and just fill me with so much joy when I see them.. and I noticed while working with mildred these past 2 days that I really feel connection to some of my dolls and not as much with my others.. and since I've been wanting to put the heads I got for mitya/teo on some bodies I've been thinking of selling some doll stuff but I also just can't decide...! Maybe I should just store some heads away and save up. But I tend to "hoard" stuff and I should make some room ;_; hrm.

Could I get some recommendations as to good bjd faceup artists?

My doll has needed a new face for awhile, but I haven't been able to find someone to hand him over to, in part bc I don't really know where to look and also bc I want to find someone who can mod his face a little bit

He's a Mystic Kids Victor and his make-up is a little too grey for my liking, I'd also like his eyes to be a bit more open to let more light show off his pretty eyes since its hard to see their color in pictures without light shining directly towards them.

So yeah, I'm looking for someone who could modify his eyes and give a rather basic looking faceup as well, preferably someone in the US or Canada

I'm sorry for all the people who loves my collection and characters and try to keep up with me, changing the design, selling and buying, renaming and reshelling. Looking back, my collection changes a lot every year... I also see improvement so I don't mind, but sorry if you want to see one special doll! I might not even have it now, or if I still have, I probably changed drastically...
