Reshelled Dolls

Having been in this crazy hobby since May 2011, I have accumulated quite a few dolls (current count as of Nov 12. 2023: 51), but not all have stayed. Some even got reshelled.

Most of my reshelled dolls completely replaced the original shell, except in the case of Ursa and Lily. I have both of their (very different looking) shells still in my collection, with each being a version of the OC they represent. The others were mostly sold, though a few got a different character assigned to them (Val 1.0 Head = Kass, Morgan 1.0 = Viola, Sam 2.0 Head = Ivy). Basically I reshell dolls when their characters outgrow their doll avatars so to say.

I even reshelled my first doll, Melody, who had been an Obitsu 60cm Gretel and is now a Doll Chateau Snow Nymph. The original shell was sold because I found I vastly preferred resin to vinyl, and because the character had fallen out of use/importance. So initially I didn't even intend to reshell her.

It's kind of funny how Melody came about to be reshelled. I instantly fell in love with the DC Snow Nymph upon seeing her pictures, but couldn't afford or justify her yet, but I knew I needed her. It took me a while to figure out why and who she needed to be, and then it clicked, she was Melody.

My wife (then fiancee) surprised me by ordering her on layaway as a wedding gift for me. Which is very special for many reasons, one being that Melody had been the first OC I created specifically to RP with my wife with (though we were only friends at that point, quickly becoming besties though). So it was only fitting that she became a wedding gift in 2015 from my wife (though it took her many more years to finally shell Darten, her husband, in 2019 I think?).

Anyway, do you guys have any reshelled dolls, and if so, why or why not?

His eyes are infact suppose to be blue. I bought this design for him ages ago for about 20$ because of how close it looked to how I had envisioned him. The eyes were the only part that didn't match XD.

OC: Diana, aka Dani

Dani is a typical case of 'OC outgrew doll-form". So, she'll be reshelled! Her new form will, hopefully, be here within a few months. I still adore the Miyu sculpt though, very much so. So I'm definitely keeping this doll :)

Even though I feel like I am close to finishing my collection/there are only a handful of sculpts left that I REALLY want, I have come to realization that I will never stop styling/planning for dolls. While this may seem like an “of course” kind of epiphany, I need to stress that I will likely NOT be reshelling any of my dolls/altering them that much… nor will I be looking at dolls but not buying them.

Instead, I absolutely know that I will fixate on and help out with dolls for my friends instead. Because I can ALWAYS justify spending when it comes to gifts, and my hyperfixations never die. RIP, but also I already am looking forward to it somehow!

Been having big lore revelation thoughts about Fable lately. Yesterday I found myself thinking, "but what if the reshell actually IS him a few years older? Would justify his new appearance story-wise!"

So, seeing what firmer brows, darker tones and his new eyeshape will do to him😊 (And had fun doing some traditional color again, like I said I should! >w<)

New eyeshape ?? YEAH, based on my current plans for him with a Myou Chelses!! Been looking around for the right sculpt to bring him home again, and I think it's about to finally happen!! ^w^

When I first got him (the doll) his character was 12, I think I was 14 at the time. And by the time I was 16, he'd evolved into being 14. The other day I was writing a little about him, about discovering he hadn't aged all that much, just a little, despite the decade-long slumber in his magical forest, hehe. So then it hit me; The reshell is an opportunity to not just bring him back- It'll actually be his next slightly grown version 😊❤️ Satisfying little detail: The Chelses is 3cm taller than his old shell >w< Cute~

very exciting day yesterday for my dolls! the shiwoo head I got in december to reshell raymonde got a faceup since the weather has been nice enough, and she looks so much nicer! I’m so glad that I decided to reshell her- I was really nervous that I wasn’t going to like the shiwoo sculpt for her either but it’s perfect :) her wig does need to be restyled since it has gotten a little crazy again, but she is super close to being complete!

some eyes that I bought secondhand from blacksheepdolls also came in yesterday! the transaction went really smoothly and the eyes are lovely :) lemon, dove, and marie are wearing some of them in the bottom row of images 👁

Doll faceup under cut (word heavy lmao)

I picked up this Dollzone Mo for pretty cheap because he was VERY old and yellowed (made in 2010 so he's very old!!) And the more that i thought about the direction I wanted to go with him, the more I realized I really wanted to reshell (basically same oc but in a different doll sculpt) one of my old dolls that i got rid of years ago. I had sent the original doll off to get his faceup done by a friend but had unfortunately deleted all the pics of this doll so all I had to go off was memory and not a muscle memory of doing the faceups years ago or pictures. He's not the same sculpt but he has a lot of the same features, ie the pouty lips, nose, and eye shape so I was pretty happy that when I got him yesterday, I could FEEL that it was gonna be the right doll to reshell Theo (old dolls name) into. The faceup was definitely a more complicated matter as Theo had a very natural looking faceup which um. Not my strong suit, I love doing big dramatic makeup but I was trying to recapture the same vibes i had from my old doll. With how yellowed he was, I also had to work with that when I was blushing as to not make the head TOO yellow or red. Thankfully I work on yellowed resin a lot so I was moderately confident that I'd be ok.

I did something a TINY bit different than my normal order of how I do a faceup and moved right onto acrylics. He has freckles all over his face so I figured doing them very early on would make it look the most natural under any other makeup I was doing. I used a toothbrush, dipped it in a warm brown-orange paint, and flicked it all over the face, cleaning up with a wet and dry q tip, purposefully leaving behind spots of pigmentation on the skin as it's something that I have under my freckles so I wanted to give Theo that too. While I was at it, I used a cool toned brown pretty close to the skin tone to add a bit of an eyeliner (in the way that it'll actually pop a bit with the eyes in place versus looking unfinished) and a waterline using a peachy pink color.

The freckles do NOT photograph super well but they look really good so I'm happy with how they turned out! I then return to the pastels to add more face shading and start on his eyebrows

The eyebrows were VERY hard to do and very scary. 1. I'm VERY bad at eyebrow symmetry. 2. The pastels weren't working so i had to only use a pencil (which I've done w a few faceups now but it was very scary). It was overall very frightening but I think I'm definitely getting a bit better at eyebrows in general :) lip blushing was started which I'll probably do a few more coats of pastel on them and then draw the lines on and be done. Really outside of that I'm nearly done :) natural faceups are a bit easier but they just are NOT what I'm used to so it's a bit of a learning curve to get it looking like a human face instead of whatever silly vibes I'm going for if I'm doing a more dramatic look

The sealant is wet here (forgot to take a pic before i sealed lol) but i just did small little darkening in some areas, I think my next coat will be adding some more shadows to the eyes and lips then I'll be done 👍)

I added some lashes as well as darkening the eyeliner and adding lip lines (hard to see in the pic but they're there 👍) and added some shadows but I finished minus the gloss! For how small he is and how I haven't done a natural faceup in 2 years, I'm pretty happy with it!

And one rq pic of him with an eye in :) I'm really happy with it and I'll have to make him a wig soonish but I'm really glad to have done my own faceup for this doll 👍

i'm gonna be real, i haven't bought a doll since last year. i'm not counting acchan, since he was a gift from my mom. and i really haven't wanted to buy any, until i figured out some character stuff.

as of now, camael is my only sd. i know i want to shell taehyun and uriel. i thought about reshelling camael as a luts model delf jade, but chalco is honestly the best sculpt for him.

for uriel, there's only one sculpt that i want. impldoll eudora. and now that impl has a gorgeous 68cm body, i'm going to take the plunge. her style is mostly figured out, but wigs are another story. i could make her one, but my joints would hate me forever lmao. her look is heavily inspired by issay tbh.

for tae, i've been waffling on height. and for a while, i wanted him to have pointed ears (he's half elf/fae). telesthesia's 75cm mei jiuqi was high on my list, but something about his face bothered me in owner photos. and, i did like du xiaoju, but he's a little too babyfaced. and i adore the new 75cm strong body, plus it would work with id75 sized stuff, so clothes will be fairly easy. then td dropped their new 75cm guy, huai an. he is perfect. so i will grab him after uriel. plus that gives me time to figure out more of his style. tae has kpop idol vibes, but he's built like a linebacker and dresses like a lumberjack hunter. henleys are a must, so are flannels, and jeans with boots.

uriel and tae are the two most important people in camael's life, and having them shelled is important to me. as much as i'd love to have my whole cast shelled, it's not feasible. there are a handful of characters i could have in msd form, but they're a lot harder to shell. but if fairyland does alicia and pheob in feeple60 or 65 size, i will probably cave and get castiel and bee. not on f60 bodies, i have other bodies in mind. f60 is too short for either of them and f65 doesn't suit them.

aaaaand i need to remember to get new eyes for pretty much everyone (except acchan). the ones i have are fine but i'd like some higher quality pairs. and uriel need a custom pair cos she has heterochromia.

Vicky is back yay :DDDD

He was my very first character that I have reshelled... 5 times. (resinoul dong, onlydoll... i don’t remember which sculpt, migi jina, luts event... which year idk) and now the Devotion Doll sense. And it’s the best shell ever. I mean, I also loved Jina a lot, but this guy is just as cute, yet more perfect in proportions (jaw vs nose vs everything else)

He is giving off that pretty boy floyd vibe (compare their album covers... the same duck face :P) but I’ll obviously make him into a Goth babe :) I mean, it’s Vic Richmond... this name tells you everything you need to know about him.

I admit, I’d sold him mainly for one reason: everyone was shipping him with Marcel... and I was like, ‘uhm nope’. My dolls may give a strong lesbian vibe (sometimes more than just a vibe), but they’re definitely not anything else aside from that or just straight. But now that I have a full collection of girls, girls, girls <3 I have no issue finding him a visual match in the form of Stacey. In the “story” I had long abandoned, Stas was Marcel’s wifey. But mainly because I wanted to design a wedding dress. Now Mars is with his androgyous Sońya and they both crossdress and all, so he’s as much of a girl as she is a boy sometimes. Her small tits and his lanky physique are perfect. Now with Vic, it’s different. I mean, I know he’s not like those iplehouse hunks (OBVIOUSLY) but he’s manly imo. 

I’ll soon start to sew some clothes for him yay :D Gotta Goth the boy!

The ol’ doll plan list. I had originally planned to have a lot more of this shit done with by now, but then I decided to to reshell 2 dolls (one of which is Sachi, whom I’m waiting on Haru to open another preorder for E-minor), finally found a doll that could be turned into Reigen from Mob Psycho 100 and bought him, and then Fairyland released a horny head sculpt that I had to have. OTL

Once the pile of hands I just sent out to get dyed eventually get back to me, it’ll hopefully be in time for commission slots at Nocturne Doll Studio to open up so I can send them out again to get blushed bahaha. Least that’ll take off a decent amount of stuff from the list.

I'm sorry for all the people who loves my collection and characters and try to keep up with me, changing the design, selling and buying, renaming and reshelling. Looking back, my collection changes a lot every year... I also see improvement so I don't mind, but sorry if you want to see one special doll! I might not even have it now, or if I still have, I probably changed drastically...

Some of my bjds are genuinely comforting to have around, and just fill me with so much joy when I see them.. and I noticed while working with mildred these past 2 days that I really feel connection to some of my dolls and not as much with my others.. and since I've been wanting to put the heads I got for mitya/teo on some bodies I've been thinking of selling some doll stuff but I also just can't decide...! Maybe I should just store some heads away and save up. But I tend to "hoard" stuff and I should make some room ;_; hrm.

Could I get some recommendations as to good bjd faceup artists?

My doll has needed a new face for awhile, but I haven't been able to find someone to hand him over to, in part bc I don't really know where to look and also bc I want to find someone who can mod his face a little bit

He's a Mystic Kids Victor and his make-up is a little too grey for my liking, I'd also like his eyes to be a bit more open to let more light show off his pretty eyes since its hard to see their color in pictures without light shining directly towards them.

So yeah, I'm looking for someone who could modify his eyes and give a rather basic looking faceup as well, preferably someone in the US or Canada
