My Impldoll Azalea Elf in real skin got a new body and therefor she got a new faceup with a color match to 2D Doll normal yellow.
I love the new body, and the new faceup, but sadly the head is simply too small to fit on the 2D68 girl body, so I am saving up to buy a new androgynous and larger head for the body and reshell the character fully... The new faceup was a last ditch effort to try and bond with the hybrid configuration, but not even with photo angle tricks can I make it look good.
Quick comparison of her previous and current faceup. I am gonna be sad to wipe it again when I list it for sale. At least it is nice to see my improvement in the last several years!
I will wipe it and offer it for sale with a 50% off faceup of choice.

I'm working on a faceup and using a lot of pastels to get the eyeshadow vibrant. This is definitely a struggle on grey resin but i think the funniest side effect (since I'm using the pastels for eyeshadow) is the entire inside of the head is bisexual colors instead of grey
#^ doing bi colored eyeshadow#i will clean it all out i just am like good lord lmao. my desk is ALSO covered in pastels. i just did not um. think about how it would take#so so long to build bright colors up on dark resin. happy w how its turning out tho since it's my grail and its going ok 👍#<- was so fucking scared to do it bc of this fact#but the face is so so easy to work on like... idk it's all coming together. having to do different brow tactics too its all so scary.#twist rambles#reminded me that i need to post my silly scar updates on my last faceup bc i touched those up too 👍 which ill do later

I’m pleased to introduce Zai, doll number 51. He is Jazz’s first mate and lover, and the father of her daughter (Bonnie). I still need to get a picture of the 3 of them together…
Zai is a Dollzone Raymond-1, who took Val’s previous body (B70-003). I knew he’d fit as Raymond had been originally released with that body way back when. I got the head secondhand.
He is normal pink, though the body is the old dark normal yellow from 2015. I knew I’d have to color match no matter what head I decided on. I’ve always liked the Raymond head, just didn’t know which character he suited, but his gaunt features are perfect for Zai!
Here’s some closeups of his Faceup. I’m really proud of his scarring, I always forget how much I love the look of them. They require patience as I use the glue method to apply them, which means I gotta wait for the pva glue to fully dry before I can seal and continue…
The what is what:
Sculpt: Dollzone Raymond-1 in normal pink color matched to normal yellow on a DZ B70-003 body
Eyes: EyesinaBox on Etsy
Wig: Monique Gold 8-9 Reeva in black-brown
Faceup: me over at @izasfaceups

I've been working on a character doll starting with just a head I found on the DoA MP. Recently his wig came in and he looks so close to the character already! Even though I haven't done his distinctive faceup including extensive scarring, and his eyes haven't even shipped yet, and he doesn't have a body yet (I've picked one out though)... but I'm still so excited to see progress. He's going to be so wonderful when he's complete- it already feels so good to look at him on my shelf, even in his WIP floating head state. Sometimes doll projects are just that fulfilling.

Excuse my mess, but here's a look at mini Luffy's progress! Added his scar (tacky glue + paint) and his outfit is complete! Almost done. Just need to finish his faceup, trim his hair, and add elastic to his hat!

My big Luts order arrived with lots of bodies inside 🥰
Now my Nagano Trio and HagiMatsu have bodies.
Kansuke will need dyeing, and Yui needs her neck modded. And I'll have to think about whether the colour mismatch of Yui is bothering me enough to redo her faceup or dye her body to match... or if I'll live with it.
I might also check if the body I matched her to is maybe a bit more yellow, so maybe I can just switch them...
Aaand I'm still kinda unsure about Hagi. He looks a bit too feminine for my liking 🥲 I got a second Bliss head with his body, thinking I could use it for a scarred version for my survival AU, but maybe I'll do another faceup attempt on that one 😥

9/1/2024: Please have an official introduction to our lovely ex-Wives. Who are all in love with each other and nothing can ever hurt them again. They hail from Mad Max: Fury Road.
Angharad popped up in some of the Pride and disability photos, but here's your official introduction to her! The Splendid Angharad is the unofficial leader of their group; she incited their rebellion and she's outspoken and fierce and perfect. In their little modern AU, she's a women's studies major. She's also Capable's primary.
She was born a McKenna and given a faceup (lips, scars) to better resemble Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the movie. She's wearing a dress by SewCuteForever on Etsy and the shoes from Rebecca's Movie Dress.
Capable has also been around before, but this is her proper intro as well. She's our girl Friday, our quick adapter, our surprising optimist. In their modern AU, she's a poli sci major. She's also Angharad's primary.
She was born a Saige and the only necessary change was a trim of her bangs. Here's Riley Keough in the movie for comparison. She's wearing a top and shorts from Sew2Repurpose on Etsy and the boots from Saige's Meet Outfit.
Next, Toast the Knowing! Toast is the worldweary one of the group; prior to the events of the film, she lived in the Wasteland and had to know how to shoot and drive and take care of herself. She's still got a big protective instinct. In their modern AU, she's a science major. She's ace-spectrum and doesn't really have a primary as such, but she's okay with that.
Toast was born, possibly, JLY 58. She was rewigged (with a custom-cut xanimestuffstorex wig) and given a faceup to better resemble Zoe Kravitz in the movie. She's wearing a sweater from JulesNmeDollDesigns on Etsy, overalls by BellasDivas on Etsy, and black boots from... somewhere.
The Dag is the "weird one" of the group for sure, and she doesn't mind one bit. She's inclined toward nature and healing. In their modern AU, she is in fact a naturopathic medicine major. She's also Cheedo's primary.
Dag was born a Just Like You 116. She was rewigged (with a Bbeauty Dolls wig) and given both a faceup and her little finger tattoos. She's wearing a dress from EclecticDollStudio on Etsy, a kimono from SewCuteForever on Etsy, boots from, again, somewhere, and one arm warmer of forgotten origin.
Cheedo the Fragile, then. Cheedo is definitely the baby of the group; she's very innocent and sweet, although not terribly trusting at this point. In their modern AU, she's still choosing a major. She's also Dag's primary.
She's a currently-unaltered Nanea. She's wearing a dress and shoes by AdollablebyRita on Etsy.
Here are some more pictures of them hanging out outside with their new car (an Our Generation car that was generously given to us by @incomprehensiblelentils' boss after his daughter no longer wanted it). Look how happy they are.

Thanks to a lot of help I’ve received for BJD’s and the like, I think I know what type of doll I wanna get (sometime in the future) to make my favorite character! I’ll also maybe get two dolls of a larger size to make my favorite character’s two older sisters with.
Though, finding clothes that look cute is hard… especially for a 1/6 doll (I looked around and found barely anything cute that would fit the doll I’ll get)
But when I can make my favorite character’s two older sisters, finding some cheap, yet cute, clothes will be absolutely easy.
I already looked at eye’s for BJD’s and wigs, (Why is a dark blue not there…? Anyone know a cute, long, dark blue colored wig?)
So, my final question would be (other than how to find clothes, I thought about taking the closest size I can find clothes for and editing them to be the right size for the 1/6 Doll-) is if you guys have any recommendations for faceups? (I’ll have to do the face up myself since what I have in mind is specific ehe~)
Especially for a vinyl doll, but tips for a resin doll can help too! (And also any help for making the doll look like it has a scar on it’s body, the character I’m making has a few scars…)
Sorry for being annoying with questions, I’m just new to the hobby and wanna know how to do things right so I don’t ruin or waste money ehehe~! (I’m sure many of you understand ~)
#bjddoll#ball jointed doll#bjd help#bjd#Don’t worry#when I DO get my hands on the doll I will be posting about it so much#And you’ll probably see me obsessing over how cute he is-#Squares from Puyo Puyo my beloved <3#I’ll make a doll of you one day#I just gotta learn everything and get what I need!

hello monkie kidders. today I offer you mk doll
tomorrow? who knows
(doll infodump below cut if you're curious)
this doll has been sitting as a wip on my desk for waaaaaaaaay too long at this point. like at least six months
he was originally going to be a g1 frankie with a skin tone change when I started (made the clothes first) but then I changed my mind at the last second and switched him to g1 clawdeen which was a very smart choice because I didn't have to paint him and I could repurpose the ears
I made the clothes months before anything else and oh my god I love them they're some of the best I've ever made (except the bandana which I hastily cut out ten minutes before the photoshoot). I captured all the details I wanted to from the show (and learned that animated pockets are at unrealistic angles and scrapped my functional pocket plans). the jacket is my absolute favourite it's my beloved.
the hair sat in wefts for less time than the clothes but still way too long before I made the wig. the wig was so simple this time thank you lego character designers. for other dolls I've done (ren) I had to do so much mental math to figure out how to get the hair to lie properly. this time? circle. easy. the wefts are three colours of acrylic yarn and I had enough extra to not suffer through the ears.
the ears were repositioned with a pin and some glue, and I covered the seams with some sideburn hairs. the only other body mod is my usual Doll Top Surgery™ done with usual primitive nail file techniques.
the tattoos are based off of this drawing I did a while back and they're pretty neat. he also has some actual top surgery scars I added but they're not visible in these pictures
he has no shoes because doll shoes are so annoying to make and he's the monkie kid he doesn't need any. I also scrapped plans for a tail because augh preparing yarn hair suuuuuuccksss
the faceup is my usual acrylics with real human eyeshadow and the body is blushed as well. the whole doll is also covered in real human highlighter for sparkles, which works a lot better on human skin toned dolls because my highlighter is tinted
that's it that's my boy :3
#lmk#monkie kid#lego monkie kid#qi xiaotian#lmk mk#mh ooak#surprise I made this in my spare time#isn't he wonderful

New faceup for Mito (I ran out of energy so eyelashes are waiting for another day) 💕
I had an Oopsie with a watercolor pencil that I couldn't get off completely on the bridge of his nose so... scar? It may not fit his Thing One persona, but sometimes he moonlights as a useless witch who insists on helping his boyfriend who follows a religious calling to fight demons so I guess Amias probably has a couple scars ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭

It was high time I repainted my tan Dollzone Stramonium, as she'd had the same faceup since 2015 and I have definitely improved.
Since I got her partner (Dollzone Raymond) in and painted him in November 2023, I felt she needed an update as well.
I still need to take a family picture of them and their daughter. It's on my dollieh to do list for 2024.
The faceup from end of 2013 was my first faceup where I used brush with paints instead of watercolor pencils to do eye details. I'd been doing faceups for about 2 years back then, but it felt like I had to relearn faceupping from scratch!
That's why my big advice to people that want to get into faceupping is to start with the techinques and mediums that they want to achieve, meaning if they want feathery lashes done with brush, they should start with that, not watercolor pencils.

Commission on Dollshe Saint faceplates, first part! I first took on this commission ten years ago, on another SA Saint faceplate. Now the new owner asked me to give that guy a fresh attempt, with a matching OE face this time too. Since the old SA should not be wiped I was able to make a comparison between the two SAs, pretty crazy to see them together like that. The OE was airbrushed to match, since it was quite yellowed. Because of that the surface is pretty grainy, and the details as well, but I am pretty happy how well the skintones match now. You win some, you lose some :D ???, Dollshe Saint - belongs to PacificBlue Customization, photos and editing by me

Franken faceup (finally lol) under the cut :) very very long and text heavy because i had a LOT to say with the new stuff I tried :)
^ mockup :) you can see the placing of a lot of the stitches shifted slightly and that it was pretty dark makeup around the eyes! My big inspo for this was early pics of avril lavigne since I wanted to capture that vibe in the way of silly skater girl in this doll. I very much was kind of on the fence on this one, going back and forth on what I would do with the doll (which is why I um was postponing working on the head [outside of painting it] until now) but was convinced I would go with this.
I promise you I had plans to use this mockup. It just did not feel right when I *did* get around to the faceup so I went into it with my usual tactic of ehh it's fine I'll figure it out later which either goes really well or really bad from my experience. I had gotten some tips from a friend of mine who is a PHENOMENAL doll artist so was very hyped to put those into use as well!
I started with blushing the normal resin, not even touching the other colors until I had already gotten this layer sealed so there would be less color contamination (or that was the hope lol)
I just was focused on building up the pinks in the VERY yellowed resin to hopefully balance it out a little (with my experience with very yellowed dolls, this helps a lot in making the color a bit more balanced and life like instead of just. YELLOW. And with this head being from ~2006, she needed all the help she could get lol)
Next coat was the dark purple which shocker. This paint gave me even more issues lmao in the way that I struggled getting my pastels dark enough to really blush the cheeks and lips :/
Like it's there a bit but not a ton and that was ok! My lip lines kept disappearing with my sealant so I added more and more each layer.
Eventually decided that the small areas I had to blush on the teal and the light purple could be done on the same layer, so did that next
Added a bit more of the lip lines and blush around the eye area on this layer too :)
Brows were SCARY bc i was going to be trying new tactics next coat but for now, just a simple pastel outline was my goal! I was SUPER torn on how to proceed with eyeshadow (whether neutral, bright or dark) so focused on everything else (mainly getting the body blushed and getting things to look good there).
Then well. I would like to say i was just gonna do a TINY bit of watercolor to darken the purple side of the lips but then i got lost in the sauce of watercolors, adding moles, freckles, liner, and lashes with it! My favorite thing about this method of sealant (and this is a drawback to some people but to me it's a fun part) is that sometimes dust or small hairs get trapped in the sealant. And why I find this fun is that I can turn it into facial features on the doll, ie moles or scars. It's something where obviously I would prefer to NOT have it in there and I could pick it out but on this doll I wanted to gain as much skin texture as possible on each color so I let it be as messy of a sealant job as I wanted, which is why she's got the moles you see on the normal resin :)
I also used watercolors to add a bit of color where the pastels were not working well (the dark purple and teal parts of the head were giving me grief so I just got my brush wet, dipped it in my watercolors and placed it where i needed it, dabbing at it with a dry [or wet depending on what I needed] makeup sponge cut into small squares. It helped add a bit of color to the lips especially and I was very happy with how it turned out!
I am THRILLED with it so I'm letting it dry a bit and then sealant time! Honestly i do not think this faceup could have gone better :) i was NOT expecting it to go well but it came together and it feels very much like my doll announced her personality of hey. This is what I wanna look like and who am I to not follow those vibes!
Bonus pic w the eyes in (not perfectly aligned bc i didn't wanna budge the paint, I will be making them look a bit better later but I just was ready to get a pic and then put gloss on lol) :)
Also bonus bonus pic of the finished hand bc i am so so happy w it!!
^ gloss is still drying but :)
I'll post pics once it's all dry and ofc more progress as the body comes along but I'm really happy with it!
#twist rambles#bjd posting#Frankenstein wip#i really feel shes coming together... hopefully ill get a name soon lmao#SO hyped to get her done like... i think its really really pushed me to get comfortable with a lot of new faceup techniques and materials#shes such a unique sculpt like honestly her personality just shown through the second i put the eyes in 🥺 im so excited#wig time soon. hopefully#my phone is SO weird about pinks like it really makes them 20x more pink so the last pic is the most true to irl pic in here :)#i have no clue why i was like hey. light blue under the eye but i really like it! i think it adds a bit of personality to an otherwise#kinda normal faceup. again minus the painting underneath lmao#realizing im gonna have to go back over the stitches on the brow oughhh it's ok i am so so so brave... might make it more of an obvious cut#w using some acrylic to make it have a bit of skin there but idk. thats future mes problem lmao#i feel the arms are SO badly making it look very unfinished rn but i think when theyre done it's gonna be like ohhh its all coming together

Finally, after almost 3 years, I repainted Lily as I greatly disliked the last Faceup I’d given her. She looks so much gentler now, as her last Faceup gave her a bit of rbf and the eyebrows and lashes were a mess.
A friend pointed out that her scars look much more healed this time, which makes me happy despite having been an accident. Happy little accidents, right?
The what is what:
Sculpt: Loongsoul ShenLuo Western white tiger in normal pink
Wig: Natrume on Etsy (tibetan lambskin mohair)
Eyes: 14mm acrylic cat eyes made by me
