Some things associated with New Age that aren't inherently bad

Since this blog can get kinda heavy sometimes, and because there's some people out there who think that anything remotely adjacent to New Age is evil and must be banished forever, I figured I'd write something on elements it includes that aren't necessarily bad.

Its general concept of God and divinity

New Age beliefs typically posit that God, or Source, effectively split itself into many different souls in order to have different kinds of experiences. There's nothing wrong with this model of divinity in itself, since it doesn't by itself imply anything hateful or suggest any kind of action that might lead to harm. Where it gets messed up is when people start claiming that if you're suffering, it's because you deliberately chose to have this kind of experience before you incarnated. That's just victim blaming, and it's wrong.

Energy healing

Energy healing on its own is a harmless practice, and many people do report feeling better for doing it. Dismissing energy healing as inherently bad in itself would be like dismissing prayer for recovery as inherently bad. It's really not. The problem is always when people start believing they should only rely on energy healing or prayer, or fall into the belief that pharmaceutical medicine is sinful or an evil conspiracy.

Listening to relaxing tones

No, those "healing frequencies" probably won't cure any serious ailments. But that doesn't mean they can't make you feel more relaxed or help you focus. You don't have to subscribe to any specific belief system to listen to these audios.

Glossolalia

The New Age practice of speaking in light languages is a form of glossolalia, which basically involves relaxing and speaking whatever sounds immediately come to you. Doing it can be cathartic and relaxing, and you don't need to subscribe to any specific belief system to do it.

Tarot reading

Reading tarot cards doesn't require subscribing to any specific spiritual belief system. Nor do you even need to be spiritual at all; you can read tarot cards with the perspective that what you're doing is prompting your own mind to consider things from new angles.

Meditation

Meditation is known to have beneficial effects, and doing it doesn't require subscribing to any particular belief system. Yes, it's a problem when somebody subscribes meditation as a cure-all, or use it as a form of spiritual bypassing, but that's a problem with the teacher, not the practice itself.

Eating more plant foods

Provided you don't have any allergies or intolerances, eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and the like usually isn't a bad idea. The problem with New Age is when it effectively moralizes food by decreeing certain foods "high vibrational" or "low vibrational," or when it's pushing conspiracy theories about modern processed food items being intentionally poisoned to block our psychic abilities or keep us dependent on the healthcare system. And obviously, it's appallingly ableist to tell someone that they could cure a chronic illness by switching to an all-natural vegan diet or something.

Belief in aliens

It's a big universe, and it's not unreasonable to think we're not alone in it, and that maybe there's beings who are observing us. The problem is when belief in aliens becomes part of a conspiratorial worldview that scapegoats certain groups of people for the world's problems, displaces real history, and misuses other people's traditions and beliefs.

Belief that things can and will get better

To paraphrase Terry Pratchett's words in The Hogfather, we sometimes need to believe in things that aren't true (such as justice and mercy) so they can become true. Believing that things can change makes people feel like their efforts are worth something. Meanwhile, when everyone's got a doomer attitude nothing will change for the better because nobody will even try.

One problem with New Age's optimism in specific is that they tend to believe that things getting better is contingent on converting a large number of people to New Age spirituality, which includes getting them to accept a large number of conspiratorial beliefs that target and harm vulnerable minorities, and/or distort and erase the actual spiritual beliefs of people from different cultures (many of whom are marginalized minorities and/or have been severely harmed by colonialism already).

Another problem is when you get the whole 5D ascension thing going on. 5D ascension is basically the New Age version of the Rapture, and just like the Rapture, it's always said to be right around the corner, but it never materializes. (If you'd like examples, here are predictions for 2012 and 2015.) Very concerningly, New Agers often list a number of physical and mental health symptoms as "ascension symptoms." They were claiming this as far back as the 2010s, when December 31, 2012 was supposed to be the big day. (Here's an example.)

Basically, hope and belief that things can get better is important - but it's also important not to hang our hopes (and medical decisions) on supernatural predictions that have already failed multiple times.

Wanting to promote compassion and understanding between people

This is a great thing to want! The problem with New Age isn't that they want to spread peace and harmony, but rather the way they want to do it without really listening to the people they supposedly want to help. You can't, for example, genuinely fight colonialism if you're engaging in cultural appropriation and misrepresenting their spiritual traditions - you're an active part of the problem. Promoting compassion and understanding begins with you shutting up, listening, and learning without imposing your own preconceptions or reacting from your ego. You're not doing this if you're looking for mythology to project aliens onto, or dismissing anything you don't want to hear as a conspiracy.

And here's some critical thinking tips before you go

When you're evaluating any belief system or practice, it's always important to remember that belief and practice are not the same thing. Most of the time the practices are harmless in and of themselves; the actual danger comes from the conspiratorial and morally polarized worldviews many practitioners also subscribe to. Nobody's ever died from putting rose quartz in their room or getting a reiki session. They have died from refusing evidence-based medical care because someone convinced them that the health care industry is a scam and will also separate them from Source.

When it comes to beliefs themselves, ask yourself what kind of narratives they're upholding. If they basically promote the same kind of conspiratorial narratives used by Nazis, witch hunters, or far right Christians to justify their hatred and violence, that's a pretty strong sign that this belief is bullshit. But of course, there's a pretty stark difference between believing that aliens could be out there, and believing blood-drinking reptiles have invaded the Earth.

1 – You’re Using Surface-Level Tools to Solve an Internal Problem

One common mistake in chakra healing is relying solely on surface-level tools like crystals and oils without going deeper into the root cause of energetic imbalances. While these tools can help aid in the process, (I call these amplifiers because they amplify the energy of that chakra) true healing occurs when we address the core issues within each chakra.

2 – Thinking That you ONLY need Yoga Asanas and Color Therapy

If you’ve been hanging your hopes on wearing specific colors, Eating certain foods or striking yoga poses to heal your chakras, hey, you’re not alone! Another misconception is the overemphasis on yoga asanas and color therapy as the primary methods for chakra healing. While these practices can complement healing, they should not overshadow the importance of addressing Your Beliefs behind your Mindset, Your Internal Programming, Emotional Health and internal energetic frequency for lasting transformation. It’s about balance, yo 😉

3 – Confusing Chakra Healing and Reiki as the same thing. Spoiler Alert: It’s not

 Reiki Healing and Chakra healing are completely different methods. It’s like comparing apples and oranges – both juicy and delicious, but with their unique flavors. While Reiki casts a broad energetic net for overall alignment, chakra healing zooms in like a laser beam on your individual energy centers. For Example, Reiki focuses more on healing the energetic field with symbols, chakra healing delves deep into individual energetic centers, providing a more targeted approach to addressing specific issues within the energy system. Chakra Healing also works specifically with your unique programming and Patterns that are looping in your nervous system.

4 – Listening to Sound Frequencies and Meditations to Heal – Yet Avoiding the inner work

Here’s the thing, sound frequencies and meditations can enhance your chakra healing journey, but they should not be the sole focus. It’s important to enhance these practices with adding internal work on Your Energetic Patterns. For Example, working on your Internal State of Consciousness surrounding your emotions, mindset, and habits to facilitate sustainable healing results.

5 – Only Focusing on Releasing and Clearing Work – Nothing Else.

Let’s chat about the shadow-side of healing – a vital but often overemphasized piece of the puzzle. While diving into your shadows is important, The real healing is when you empower your chakras. A key aspect of effective chakra healing is empowering the chakras through repatterning. This is the deep work we do inside The Ultimate Chakra Academy Simply releasing negative energies or even Shadow patterns is not enough; true healing occurs when we replace old patterns with new, empowering beliefs and behaviors.

Why are people not able to properly heal?

When we only do releasing work, we’re not actually shifting and changing the pattern. And what happens instead is it reverts. The entire pattern starts to revert and come back! Have you ever had that happen? This causes the entire script to change. (and maybe you lost money from that, all the same, right?)

Avoiding the Real Internal Work to Truly Heal

The hugest thing I want to emphasize here is you notice, all these mistakes aren’t actually working on your emotions or your patterns. They’re kind of, bypassing those emotions. Naturally, they’re energy tools, they help, but they’re not working with the emotion. If the tool does not work with the negative pattern or the emotion itself, Then it’s just like an amplifier. Instead, When we work with a Chakra, we’re opening up the Energy pattern that makes up your beliefs, emotions, actions, and even working on the habits that keep the pattern going.

We’re not looking at the actual programming itself. We’re not looking at the actual pattern or the framework of the pattern. We’re instead bypassing that and using different tools to try to access it. Chakra healing makes up a pattern. If you want to raise your vibe, heal, or manifest? Change the Energy Pattern, Change the Results.

Hi, so in Invincible and JJK, both Mechamaru and Robot are characters who were born extremely physically frail and weak bodies, yet they are able to fight against enemies by remotely controlling weaponized robots and other technology. Can you make a mutant type quirk based on that, where the user is able to control technology but have bodies that are very physically frail and weak?

I love your quirk ideas and analysis. Could you share any ideas for an original quirk that could lead to the user becoming sick and having a shorter lifespan? Maybe a regeneration type quirk that helps the user heal faster by making cells divide could lead to developing cancer for example.

This is probably stupid but do you think it’d possible for a mutant quirk that doesn’t heavily alter the person to grant them the extra toe joint making it seem on almost all counts they are quirkless? Almost being a redundant quirk? I figure it’d be a funny scenario for a character.

So now would be a good time to talk about Quirk balance. For all the jokes people have about how bad certain Quirks are, a Quirk should serve some function for the user, no matter how minor it is. So a quirk that does nothing for the user wouldn't be a thing. And while downsides can be an issue, that should be something that can be worked around to be dealt with in some fashion. I do not care what ability you give it, a Quirk shouldn't cripple the user for life for having it or be actively killing them just by using it. No other Quirk in the series is that severe in its downsides. You can bring up Dabi if you want, ignoring the fact that he is an exception that proves the rule, but not even "Cremation" works against him that much. You can have Quirks with dynamics like that, but they'd need to be massively toned down. Like having a Quirk that makes the user sick or robs them of some function in order to achieve the effect, but only having it be temporary. Using the Mechamaru example, you could have a power that controls technology or gives the user robot minions but leaves them in a meditative state to control them. It still robs the user of their strength in a way, but it's not permanent, and it's something they can choose to do.

The Golden Sun Disc of Mu Talon Abraxas

Held by ropes of pure gold in a shrine in the greatest Temple of Divine Light of the Motherland of Mu was the gigantic Golden Disc of the Sun. Before it, on an altar, which was a pillar carved out of solid stone, there blazed the eternal white Light of the crystalline Maxin Flame, the Divine Limitless Light of Creation. About 30,000 B.C. the Maxin Light went out on the Altar because of the evil of some of the priest-scientists of Great Mu. The Sun Disc remained in its shrine, however, until the time of the final destruction and submergence of 10-12,000 B.C.

As we said before, this Disc was not merely used as an object of adoration, nor was it the symbolic representation of our Solar Sun. It was also a scientific instrument, and the secret of its power came originally out of the dim past in the time of the Elder Race. In part, it was an object of adoration because it served in ritualistic temple services as a focus or point of concentration for those meditating. It also served as a symbolic representation of the Great Central, or Cosmic Sun, which, in turn, symbolizes the Creator. As a scientific instrument it was used in connection with a complex system of mirrors of pure gold, reflectors and lenses to produce healing in the bodies of those who were inside the Temple of Light. Indeed, that is why it was called Temple of Divine Light. Besides all these functions, the Sun Disc was a focal point for concentration of a dimensional quality. When the Disc was struck by a priest-scientist, who understood its operation, it would set certain vibratory conditions which could even bring about great earthquakes and, if continued long enough, might bring about a change in the rotation of the Earth itself. When attuned to a person’s particular frequency pattern it could transport this person wherever he wished to go merely by the mental picture he created. It was, therefore, an object of transportation.

The Golden Sun Disc of Mu was not made of ordinary gold, but was transmuted gold, and unusual in its qualities in that it was a translucent metal similar, evidently, to the “metal you can almost look through” of the UFOs.

Lord Muru brought this Disc with him when he journeyed to Lake Titicaca, and it was placed in a subterranean temple at the Monastery of the Brotherhood of the Seven Rays. Here, it was used not only by the students of life daily, but also by the Masters and Saints from the Mystery Schools throughout the world so that they might be teleported back and forth to sit in Council or to partake of some Transmission Ceremony.

When the Incas came to Peru, and come they did, for they were not native Quechua Indians, but came from a land across the Pacific, they established a highly spiritual society on top of the ruins of the great culture that had belonged to the Colonial Empire of Lemuria. The High Priests of the Sun of Tawantinsuyo–the name of the Inca Empire–built their Coricancha or Temple of the Sun exactly on top of an older structure dating from very remote times. From ancient records in their homeland across the Pacific they learned of the Golden Sun Disc of Mu and they knew it had been removed from the doomed continent and taken to a new land where Lord Muru had founded an Inner Retreat or Sanctuary.

Once in Peru, the Incan High Priests searched long for the Disc but were never able to locate it. However, when they had reached the place on the Spiritual Pathway where they could use the Disc to the benefit of all their people–the native, indigenous tribes they had amalgamated into an empire–as it had been used on Mu, then it was presented to them for their daily use in their Temple of the Sun at Cuzco.

The Inca Emperor at the time was a Divine Mystic or Saint, and he made a pilgrimage to the Monastery at Lake Titicaca, and there Aramu-Muru, as Spiritual Head or Abbot of the Brotherhood, gave the Disc to the Emperor. Several Brothers from the lake were directed to journey with him to the capital of the empire, Cuzco. Here the Disc was placed in a shrine that had been prepared for it, and it was secured with golden ropes as it had been held in ancient Lemuria. Even today, the holes through which these ropes passed can be seen at the Convent of Santo Domingo in Cuzco which is built on top of the Pre-Inca and Inca Sun Temple.

The Incas called their Temple of the Sun Coricancha, which means Place of Gold or Garden of Gold. This was because of the magnificent, solid gold, life-sized figures of men, animals, plants and flowers that were placed in a real Garden of Gold adjacent to the Sun Temple. But the priest-scientists called the Temple Amarucancha. On some of the stones at Santo Domingo today you can still see carved serpents (amarus) and that is the reason, they say, that some knew the Temple as Amarucancha, or, Place of the Serpents. However, that is not the real reason. Amaru is a form of Aramu, which is one of the names of Lord Maru. There are large snakes in the Andes which are still called amarus. Lord Maru’s name concerns a snake because his title is similar to that of another world teacher, Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent of the Aztec Empire in Mexico. Therefore, the Temple of the Sun at Cuzco was named for Aramu-Muru, head of the Monastery at Lake Titicaca, for it was he who enabled them to have, at last, the Golden Disc in their Sun Temple. Within this greater Temple there were smaller temples or shrines dedicated to the Moon, the Twelve Planets (Stars), and to the Seven Rays.

The Brotherhood of the Seven Rays became the leading force in the spiritual life of the Incas, and they learned the use of the Disc from ancient records left by the wise Pre-Incas who were Lemurian colonists. The Disc remained in the Coricancha at Cuzco until word reached the priests that Don Francisco Pizarro had landed in Peru. Knowing full well what was going to take place, sorrowfully they removed the Disc from the Cuzco shrine and returned it to its place in the subterranean temple at the Monastery. The Spanish conquerors never saw it.

On January 21, 1956, Beloved Archangel Michael of the Sun gave an address at His Retreat at Banff, in the Canadian Rockies. The following is an excerpt:

Many of the Temples used on Atlantis and Lemuria have been raised into the etheric realms. Some day they will be lowered again when man is spiritually ready to receive them. It has happened that one or more of the precious stones used in the construction of these Temples have been put in the hands of a High Priest or Head of a Spiritual Order where they form a connection with the Celestial Hierarchy. There are several dozens of the stones from My own Temple in the possession of individuals at various points on the Earth’s surface today…

The Golden Sun Disc of Mu is one of the precious stones referred to by Lord Michael. And it was put in the hands of the Head of the Brotherhood of the Seven Rays, Aramu-Muru. The Disc will remain at Lake Titicaca until that day ‘when man is spiritually ready’ to receive it and to use it once again. On that day the Golden Disc will be taken out of its subterranean chamber and placed high above the Monastery of the Brotherhood. For many miles the pilgrims of the New Dawn will see it once again reflecting the glorious rays of the Sun. Coming from it will be an undeniable tone of purest harmony that will bring many followers of light up the foot-worn path to the ancient gate of the Brotherhood of the Seven Rays, and they shall enter the Valley of the Blue Moon for fellowship in the Father.

Post-Fallen Order: After months of halfhearted attempts, the Haxion Brood finally gets the jump on the Mantis crew. They drag their prisoners back to Sorc Tormo’s new venture, a half-constructed station in a remote asteroid belt, where he has a proposition for them: Greez’s debts, erased, as long as the crew helps him track down a troublesome old friend.

With hostages, visceral threats of violence, and a former-Imperial staffer consultant pulling the strings, it seems the Brood has the upper hand. But there is one narrow way through: the crew just has to trust each other and hope that the bluff can be called.

chapter 10: a held breath

For the first time since leaving the station, Cere has nothing to do. She has spun all of her plans into motion. All that’s left is to wait, to trust that Saw will arrive soon and that BD-1 is safely making his way to Cal and Merrin. She has no hope of peaceful sleep so she tries to meditate, to clear the last bits of fear and anxiety from her mind, but in an unwise moment unthinkingly connects to the kyber crystal and gets a flash of pain and exhaustion through its connection to Cal. She opens her eyes, breathing hard and anchoring herself in the present. Traveling that path is dangerous: to feel his pain so vividly triggers an overwhelming protective urge that clouds her mind. She must take her own advice: she must be patient. That time will come, after her plans for Sorc Tormo’s ruin have unspooled, and they all have time to heal and recover. With both sleep and meditation out of reach, Cere rises and goes to do something perhaps even more dangerous. While waiting for their forces to muster, Cere forces herself to bear witness to the consequences of her plan, Greez stews in his guilt, and Cal and Merrin lick their wounds.

Okay, so what would you have done if the guy you’re with suddenly challenges the town marshal to a fight because of the clothes he’s wearing? Huh? Grogu didn’t want to jump to any conclusions, but the Mandalorian was really good at fighting and the marshal looked… out of practice? Tired? Disbelieving? Whatever it was, Grogu didn’t like it. So he hid. Mostly.

The pot was deep enough to hide him completely. But… and he hated to admit it, he didn’t want to miss any of what happened either. What if the marshal was only wounded? What if there were ricochets from the fire fight and the Weequay bartender was hurt? Grogu wanted to be able to leap into action and heal whoever needed healing. He was a Jedi and that was an ability he had that had proven very useful while traveling with the Mandalorian. 

Grogu wasn’t sure why the pot was just sitting on the floor next to the bar. It was empty. Completely empty. Not even a spec of trash and no food at all. Not even a shell. That had been a considerable disappointment to him, but then it was also a relief. What if people had spit in it?! Or dumped out the dregs of their ferments? Or dumped death stick ashes in it? Gross. 

Grogu didn’t really think that the construction of the pot would save him from a stray blaster bolt. It wasn’t made of beskar or anything even remotely that tough. He could tell based on the sound it made when he thwacked it with his finger and thumb. It made a nice hollow sounding ‘dink’… or was it a ‘plink’ sound? No, not that. Maybe a ‘tink’? Whatever it was, the sound indicated that the pot was made of fired clay. Not metal. 

He wondered what it was doing there because he didn’t really think that the fine people of Mos Pelgo asked for it so small Jedi younglings would have hiding place in case things got out of hand. If they had wanted to prevent that, they probably should have reflected on having a tavern or cantina or inn or whatever it was in their town at all. Grogu had learned from the nice lady at the inn on Sorgan, ‘that where there was spotchka, there was trouble’. He’d seen the spotchka and his companion was definitely trouble. 

He didn’t think that the Mandalorian intended to be trouble, but the Mandalorian Creed had a lot of rules and Din Djarin was really good at following them and now, it was clear, he intended to enforce them as well. Grogu didn’t really know what he thought about that other than having the pot to hide in was beneficial. Most folks didn’t fire at what they couldn’t see and he really hoped that was true in this case. 

He recalled a time, on Coruscant, when he just happened to be in the wrong training room at the wrong time, and had to duck, weave, dodge, and hunker down, as various padawan and knights practiced with a wide variety of weapons. That’s right. Jedi didn’t just only use lightsabers. They had to know how to use a bunch of different weapons because ‘you can not defend against what you do not understand’. He didn’t remember exactly which master had made that comment, but it didn’t sound like Master Yoda, so Grogu assumed it was probably Master Windu or maybe Master Drallig. 

Any way, there he was, in the large, live training space, having found an excellent location to stash his favorite snacks in order to keep Ian from taking them and then ransoming them back to him via the application of chores. He must have fallen asleep or perhaps he’d just meditated too hard and the next thing he knew, lightsaber whips (a very oddly specific form of weapon) were cracking and batons were clacking against each other and all manner of improvised weapons were being thrown, dropped, and skipped across the space. 

For a few moments Grogu had just laid right where he was. That was okay, but he needed to get to his next lesson, which, funnily enough, was ‘The History of Asymmetric Warfare’. That whole lesson would have far more meaning for him than he had ever expected it to. He had moved his head slowly to identify a pathway out and found himself the target of a number of the improvised weapons. Rocks, boxes, and plant materials had all been sent in his direction through the padawan’s application of the Force. 

Grogu hopped out of the way and held one hand up, deflecting whatever was aimed at him as his crisscrossed the space trying to avoid the actually dangerous weapons, like that creepy lightsaber whip thing.  It made an awful snapping sound that seemed to mimic the cry of a hungry Nexu.  He was glad that there were so many things that were blocking the Jedi from viewing him clearly. He didn’t want them to suddenly see him and then attack without realizing that he wasn’t a combatant. He was just a bystander trying very hard to get to place where he could just stand by. 

Fortunately for him, one of his favorite masters called out that Grogu was on the ‘field of battle’. In an instant, everything stopped. No throwing stuff, no slicing through the air, no pushing things. 

“Well, my young friend, you chose a very dangerous place to take a nap.”

Grogu nodded his head and did his best to look sorry. He’d rather Master Kenobi thought he’d fallen asleep there than know the truth. His hard boiled eggs would be safe from Ian and he’d learned a vital lesson. Just because a place seemed quiet and peaceful, didn’t mean it would stay that way.

He should have remembered that as soon as he and the Mandalorian reached Mos Pelgo. It was peaceful and quiet, but that was just on the surface. The Mandalorian was just as bound to stir up trouble as the padawans’ had been in the training room. They were just following their creeds. 

Funny how different they were and, yet, how similar the outcome. Who’d have guessed it?

remote orbing: The ability to orb other people from one place to another without touching them.
