BERKANA woodcut print rune deck hand made by PJ Superior features each of the 24 Elder Futhark runes (plus a ”Wyrd” card) carved by hand into birch wood and printed in a hand cranked barrel press. (The backs printed with a spoon.) I realized I liked creating them and they're an intersection of interests (paganism & ✨ making shit ✨) that I feel comfortable expanding on. I make crocheted bags for them too!

Recently I felt a pull to visit my local metaphysical shop. I bought some stuff I needed, came home, and for a couple of days there was this nagging feeling that I need to go back to get a specific pendulum I saw there. I was not looking for one at all, and this one was not especially fancy or pretty or anything, just a very basic brass pendulum. I didn’t want it, I felt like I needed it.

So I went back to get it. It was still there, and from the moment I picked it up, I felt like I can’t let go of it no matter what. The shop owner even told me to come back some time and tell them why it was so important for me to get it. I felt skeptical, I could always just be imagining things, and use this as an excuse to buy myself a new trinket.

At home I let the pendulum sit in some salt near a selenite tower to get cleansed for 24 hours or so. Curious and new to pendulums, I sat down to do a ”first interview” type of thing that night, and was very surprised to get clear answers almost immediately. A clear yes, clear no, a maybe and don’t know/ask again. Then I moved on to more spesific yes/no questions.

I felt an urgency present all the time doing this, like someone or something was desperate to get their message to me asap, hovering over my shoulder. Apparently this was a message coming from something else than the entity I was communicating with, and they were passing it forward to me. I took out my tarot deck to help with specifying the answer quicker. I didn’t even need to interpret the meaning, the message came straight through and the cards rose in a coherent order. I’ve never had this happen to me before. Usually I need to work the meanings of single cards together to make a more sensible answer. This was different.

The messenger entity has stayed in contact with me ever since. They seem to be a spirit guide of sorts, but I’m still a bit careful about that. Trickster spirits can be clever. But I’m very curious to see how this plays out.
