HUGE THOUGHTS DUMP ON GETO SUGURU
I may come back to structure this more properly but my brain is cooking at the moment so I'll just write down a raw train of thought. I think Geto is currently the most intriguing and solidly written JJK character, and ponderings on why lead me to the fact that it's because he's the only central chara whose arc is entirely over and cemented in place. In fact, I think that the crucial part of Geto's character is the fact that he's been dead since JJK 0; dead and gone at the very beginning of the story.
At first glance Geto is an ideological evil, but the slightest deeper glance at the inconsistencies of his behavior clearly illustrates that his ideal is flimsy and does not actually hold meaningful weight to him - it is unattainable for Geto to exterminate people without powers, and he is very aware of it as shown in sudden death. To see why he still clings to this hollow ideal, one must only look at the character of 16yo Geto in hidden inventory. The Geto-Gojo conflict in hidden inventory is about whether the strong are morally obligated to protect the weak. 16yo Geto is highly principled and bound by self-imposed rules of morality. this is pointed out and mocked by Gojo, who is initially lax about his "obligations" as a strong individual. Geto is already an unstable individual at the start of hidden inventory, as shown by the prolepsis in which he just barely compels himself to consume a curse which fed on people and thus 'do good' - however, his self instilled principles as well as his friendship with Gojo keep him on a straight path. Young Gojo does not seem to care much about what he does with his power, but he still 'does good' without much questioning. Geto is the one who has been privately pondering the correctness of using one's power for the sake of another, and he covers up the pointlessness he arrived at by parroting an ideal - the strong inherently must protect the weak because that's how humanity grows and endures. Since the very beginning, Geto is a person held together only by having an aim.
Everything changes with the violent death of Amanai, and I think it's especially meaningful that Amanai was killed without the slightest interference of sorcery - she is simply shot through the head from an ordinary pedestrian handgun. The battle with Toji who toes the thin line between ordinary man and sorcerer and esentially stands for both makes drastically different impressions on Gojo and Geto. Being able to 'evolve' from fighting Toji and eventually becoming able to kill him fortifies Gojo's esteem and existence. Upon becoming able to overcome this 'neither and both," Gojo divorces himself from the rest of humanity and proclaims himself to be "the only honored one". For Geto, fighting Toji results in the opposite - his esteem and values fatally crumble upon witnessing Amanai's demise. He comes to realize that overcoming one's fate and choosing to live doesn't guarantee a happy end. Esentially, it's worth less than shit. Geto is left without the one ideal that fortified him and moved the empty doll of him forward, and upon losing it, he is left empty with a need to cling to something.
And now, the sad thing is that he could have clung to something meaningful, but the constellation of events aligned perfectly for Geto to fall into the muck of hatred. If Gojo had stayed by his side, he may have been able to keep doing the correct thing simply for the sake of it, like Gojo did - but their forking of paths was just too fatal. It left them just too different. Gojo, whose existence was affirmed, went upwards. Geto, whose lifeline was cut short, fell down. The catalyst for his fall into villainy was witnessing the abuse of Nanako and Mimiko. At the time when he was in most need of something to believe in, he witnessed an ugly act of violence which both reminded him of Amanai and illustrated something very specific - a normal human abuses a sorcerer child. In Geto's vocabulary, humans are the 'weak' ones and sorcerers are 'strong': however, this case of abuse tipped the scale of power. Despite being 'strong', Nanako and Mimiko are children, and their abusers are adults. Geto reasoned with himself at that moment that he witnessed that the weak can also oppress the strong, and it was perfect justification and an excuse to vent the anger and misery of the "thankless work of protecting the weak" on the weak themselves. It holds meaning that exorcising curses, the only way Geto can contribute to society, is physically hurtful for him. In his words, it's like "swallowing a rag soaked in vomit and shit, a taste that no one else knows". He percieves himself as the one suffering the injustice of beinf misunderstood in his 'helping the weak.' He does not actually ideologically hate normal people and think they intristically deserve death for creating curses. He just 'wants to kill them' to pacify and avenge his own isolation and, in a sense, an immature craving for his efforts to be acknowledged. He goes from an ideal of "the weak are protected because that's how we prosper" to "the weak should be killed and humanity should be decimated", esentially giving up not only on moral goodness but on the endurance of humanity as a whole. However, Gege said in the fanbook that Geto's personality "changed because he kept repeating to himself that he hates normal people" - it's something he actively convinces himself in, and doesn't hold much weight. This is perfectly illustrated in the case of his death. Geto is seen after losing to Yuta and Rika laughing and grandeously stating that he now knows how to win next time and gain enormous power, but then accepts his death at Gojo's end as calmly as a flickering lightbulb quietly dying down. He is aware as ever that he does't firmly believe in anything, and it loses before Gojo's newfound conviction to protect troubled young people. His ideal is the one that withered before Gojo's, and he fatally and completely lost.
I think the widescale Gojo-Geto conflict is an interesting meditation of common shounen themes. Shounen protagonists are always strong, and in formulaic stories they protect the weak because it's a sensible, valiant thing to do. Geto is the character in JJK that most prominently ponders the sensibility of this obligation. And this character, the one that embodies the conflict - is there an end to this? Is there meaning to it? Is there a heaven to arrive at? Will someone shake my hand and say "you did well?"
He is dead. He has always been dead. There is only an airport beyond death.
I also adore the choice of the build-up to Geto's murder to be shown, but not the actual act of it, as well as the censoring of Gojo's final words to Geto beyond hinting that they were sentimental. Stsg is a sort of tragedy that one witnesses build up for the sake of gleaning something meaningful out of it, for the sake of a satisfying resolution. I think it's weighty for that satisfaction to be taken away from the reader. It really drives in the senselesness of it all, the avoidability of it. In a way, the killing of Geto was very intimate. His end remaining unseen, Gojo's feelings remaining unheard - this was perhaps the only dignity Gege was willing to spare them. And I like it a lot. This is a tragedy for two, and you are not entitled to its catharsis. From thereon starts a new tragedy, the one of Geto's secondary role within the story - becoming a vessel for a more powerful, more simplistic evil. Or perhaps this tragedy is just a continuation of his original conflict? Perhaps all those like Geto eventually end up swayed by something more evil and grander than them.

While we're on the subject of swinging our fists at God
The ACLU is gonna take action against Mastercard for their anti-porn schtick! Y'know, one of the major reasons the internet turned to shit in the last ten years? It's literally like 95% of the way there, we just need a few more signatures and the petition Gets There. You have to be USAmerican to sign, but there's enough of us here to fill in the last few signatures needed several times over, so go on over and throw your name on there!!

I just love love love that there’s a guy wandering about Dungeon Meshi going, ‘but what are the socioeconomic and geopolitical consequences of this fantasy quest adventure, both while it’s ongoing and after its inevitable completion?! The skillset required to find and kill a Mad Mage is different than that required to responsibly, benevolently and effectively rule a kingdom. I personally must either find a good candidate, somehow make one, or, most likely, take on the whole Mageslayer/King role myself.” Except he doesn’t have the first skillset, and his whole party keeps dying while these highly competent chucklefucks wander past, kill and eat the monster, and save their bodies for the nth time. Kabru would demand to know if Aragorn is familiar with Gondorin tax law. His isekai energy is off the charts, because this is all exactly what I would do if dropped into a fantasy quest adventure, right down to repeatedly dying due to not actually being suited to the genre conventions.

hey update on YT folks; ublock has put out a guide to getting adblock to work on there again, which i only found out today bc YT failed to work with ublock running.
you can find their post >here<, i highly recommend following the link in the post to submit complaints to YT about violating a policy their parent company follows as well, as we'll be in a perpetual cycle of bullshit if we dont.
EDIT: 10/18
I'm turning off reblogs for this post as the info is outdated! Please refer to the post >>HERE<< for how to fix your ublock. Please note this is for firefox only, Chrome has already fucked over adblockers entirely.

Spain lied about not selling weapons to Israel.
Even after October 7th, Spain has sold more than 1 million € of weapons to Israel. Norway and Finland make it possible.
In January, Spain made headlines word-wide when the government's Minister of Exteriors, José Manuel Albares (PSOE), claimed in Congress and later again in a radio interview that Spain had stopped selling weapons to Israel ever since October 7th. Israel's intensification of violence in Gaza following October 7th meant that, on top of decades of apartheid and ethnic cleansing, between October 7th and January 23rd Israel had already killed 28,000 people and forced 2 million out of their home. In this context, many people were demanding their governments stop arming and funding the genocide of the Palestinian people, and here on Tumblr and other social media sites like Twitter I think we all saw the many posts praising the Spanish government for this.
Well, it turns out it was a lie.
According to Albares, "Since October 7th there are no more weapons exportations [from Spain] to Israel". But in November alone, Spain exported weapons to Israel for 987,000€, as was published on the Spanish Government's official website dedicated to exterior commerce (Comex). A researcher from Centre Delàs (an independent centre for peace studies) found it and published it, and it has also been verified by newspapers such as elDiario.es.
This 987,000€ worth of weapons in November was not the only ammunition that Spain has sent to Israel in 2023. In 2023, Spain exported a total of 1.48 million € in war material to Israel.
All of the weapons sent in November come from the factory of Nammo Palencia (Castilla y León), a corporation that is 50% property of the Government of Norway and 50% owned by a public Finnish business. However, even if the owners are foreigners, the ammunition was sent from Spain and thus it had to be authorized by the an organism of the Spanish Government named Junta Interministerial de Defensa y Doble Uso, whose deliberations on whether a weapons exportation is accepted or denied are kept secret. The only cases where they have denied exporting weapons to Israel have been when they thought that Israel would re-sell these weapons to the Philippines.
Spain has had a close relation with Israel for years. As published by the Spanish Government, Spain has sold 20 million € of weapons to Israel between 2012 and 2022. Spain also buys weapons and military software from Israel (for example, the Spanish Intelligence Service has been using the Israeli software Pegasus to illegally spy on Catalan activists, journalists, politicians and civil society members and their relatives to attack the Catalan independence movement), and Spain has continued buying from Israel and allocating defense contracts to Israel even after the October 7th attacks. It is very difficult to track the concessions of public contracts such as buying weapons, but some contracts have been known. For example, on November 24th 2023, Spain bought 287.5 million € of missiles from Israel. This is not unusual: between 2011 and 2021, it is publicly known that Spain bought war material from Israel for at least 268 million €, but experts say that the real number could be two or three times as much.
Spain has also continued allocating concessions to Israel. For example, on December 15th 2023 Spain allocated a contract worth over 576 million € to Israel for a rocket launcher programme. On November 22nd, Spain allocated another another Israeli company to provide missiles for 237 million € at the same time as the Spanish army bought Israeli inhibitors for 1.4 million €. The very next day, November 23rd, Spain signed another military allocation to Israel for 82,600€. The following week, Spain signed yet another allocation with a different Israeli military corporation for 3.7 million €.
Spain also allows Israeli weapon manufacturing companies to produce weapons through their branches located in Spain. This way, Israeli weapons make their way to markets with which Israel doesn't have diplomatic ties but Spain does, like Saudi Arabia. And since Spain is a member of NATO, Israeli weapons produced in Spain are approved according to NATO standards and access it easily. In the same way, these Israeli weapons manufacturers also access European Union defense funds through their branches in Spain. (source).
As I said, I saw a lot of positive posts around when Albares said Spain was going to embargo, but I haven't seen any post about how they didn't do it. I also (personally) haven't seen anything on international media, and barely anything on Spanish media, which is already busy with the PSOE covid material corruption scandal. So I share this in the hope of helping put pressure on Spain to cut all ties with Israel immediately.
SHAME ON EVERYONE WHO GIVES ISRAEL THE MATERIAL AND MONEY THAT WILL BE USED TO MASSACRE THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE. SHAME ON SPAIN, NORWAY, AND FINLAND.
