#regulus living takes away from that a bit
otrtbs · 1 year
Note
Would you ever consider writing a one-shot (maybe for the 1 year anniversary?) with what would have happened had reg made it out alive (I would cry)
hi! i don't know if i'm going to put out anything for the one year anniversary of art heist but if i did it wouldn't be a regulus-living-situation sorry! any situation that comes out of art heist where regulus lives is an alternate ending to me. and regulus living was just,,, never the story i wanted to write. and tbh my fear is a lot of people would read that ending and say "this is the ending we deserved" or "this is how it should've gone" or "i'm pretending this was the original ending" and none of those things feel super great i can't lie! and i feel like it detracts from the original intent of the story i wrote which makes me :((( yk? (maybe you don't know and that's okay) but regulus was always supposed to die! he was never meant to make it out alive in this story so as far as any writing from me goes in the ahb! universe,, regulus will be dead

@jegulus-microfic april 1 - spring - 1340 words (of domestic bliss with little harry)
Sundays are slow in the Potter household.
One would think James doesn’t like the pace of it, always having to do something usually, always active, moving around or talking, tugging at his loved ones or caressing their skin, but he does. It hasn’t always been this way but with getting older and especially since they’ve become parents James had noticed how his body and mind welcomed the one break in the week to just shut off and recharge.
They’ve fought their way through a cloudy March and with the arrival of April, spring is finally here.
James loves spring. People always assume it’s summer—and credit to them, because he does—but there’s just something about the rebirth of everything that comes after the long gloomy fall and icey winter period. The birds chirp with their return and in search for a mate, insects buzz lively and everything brightens with colour.
Like clockwork, Harry appears in the threshold of the master bedroom at around 7 am, deer plushie in a tight grip by the antlers, his dark mob of hair messy as anything. He drowsily rubs the sleep from his eyes, face squished and James sometimes thinks he might die from how adorable their four year old is.
He grabs his glasses, pushes back the sheets and plants a gentle kiss on Regulus’ cheek where he’s still knocked out like the dead and smushed into his pillow.
Harry pads wordlessly into the living room, James hot on his trail. Though while Harry goes in search of a children’s book for James to read to him, James makes a detour to the kitchen. He fills them two bottles with the tea they let out on the counter overnight, preparing one for Regulus as well for when he wakes up. He cuts up some fruit and vegetables and grabs the packets of rice cakes and crackers from the pantry, loading it all on a tray before he sets on to the living room.
Harry is already curled under the big fleece blanket they keep there, grinning when James rounds the corner with their pre-breakfast.
“Morning, dada,” he greets, sweetly.
James’ chest swells. “Morning, pumpkin,” he returns, pressing a kiss into Harry’s hair, setting down the tray. Before he takes his place next to his son he walks over to open the big terrasse glass doors.
“How’d you sleep?” James asks, plopping down next to Harry who immediately snuggles closer, plushie still in hand.
“Good,” Harry sighs contently and James can’t help himself when he brushes some of his hair back from his forehead and kisses him again. “Can you read to me?”
It’s a hidden object book but James knows what he means. He grins, “’Course, Hazza.”
They do just that for a bit, James describing what’s going on on the pages, creating a story for recurring characters. Skipping back and forth with Harry randomly pointing out another happening of the drawing while he’s munching away on his rice cakes and cucumbers and the occasional grape.
It’s still mildly cool, especially when a faint breeze picks up, moving the grass outside and swishing inside but Harry’s still wearing long pyjamas and James knows he’ll tell him if he’s too cold. He simply burrows further under the blanket and into his father’s side. James runs hot anyways.
When Harry decides they’re done with books James puts on a nature documentary for them.
They’re teaching about the strength of some rainforest ant species when Regulus shuffles into the room, arms wrapped around himself and eyes nearly closed.
“Morning, Papa,” Harry whispers excitedly, already wiggling out of James’ embrace even though he knows Regulus will join them there in just a moment.
A smile tugs at Regulus’ lips as he blinks his eyes open, dark lashes fluttering agonisingly beautifully and giving way to soft grey. James swears they get a little more blue every time right around his birthday, like Regulus is just another subject to the changes of spring.
“Mornin’,” Regulus sighs happily when he squeezes Harry against his chest, peppering the side of his head with kisses until he pulls away, tugging Regulus along to James.
His eyes are already closed again when Regulus nuzzles into the crook of James’ neck, pressing a kiss there before he gets comfortable.
“Morning, love,” James murmurs, voice thick with adoration, audible even to himself, and he strokes Regulus’ exposed arm softly.
The spell of Sunday is thick in the air, heavy in their bones.
Harry, usually the most lively child, always animatedly talking about something or the other, giggling, making jokes or doing mischief, is quiet now too. It’s routine, the way he grabs for Regulus’ arm and squeezes between his two dads, waiting for James to absently card his fingers through their hair and send them back to their slumbers.
It doesn’t take longer than five minutes before Harry’s breaths are deepening and it’s marvellous. Magical in the way that Regulus’ presence seems to calm him so much it pulls him back into another nap.
James smiles so wide, looking down at them like that for so long that his cheeks start straining.
He watches a bit more of the documentary, snaps a few obligatory pictures of them on his phone and sends them into their family group chat. Monty sends back a pixelated picture of a zoomed in shot of Effie in the garden, Sirius replies with a shaky snapshot of him running with the dogs and Remus answers with an aesthetically pleasing picture of what seems to be the breakfast he’s preparing for the two of them.
James’ belly growls hungrily at the reminder and when his gaze falls on the lone grape sitting in the bowl on the tray he decides it’s time for breakfast.
It’s nothing short of artful the way he extracts himself from besides Harry and Regulus without rousing them before he heads for the kitchen.
He grabs flour and sugar, eggs and milk for pancakes, as well as the bacon, bagles and cream cheese. It’s meditative to put together all the ingredients, set the table and assemble syrup and blueberries and chocolate chips. Halfway through James remembers the leftover quinoa in the fridge and between placing patches of batter in a sizzling pan he whips them up a quick salad as well.
The smell in the kitchen is divine and James has already made acquaintances with the joyful bluetit in the tree by the window by the time Regulus comes into the kitchen with Harry on his hip. He’s babbling now, talking Regulus’ ear off by the looks of it and Regulus hums and nods and gasps at all the right places, looking ridiculously endearing with his curls mussed and an imprint of the couch cushion lining his cheek.
“Morning, champ,” James teases, smacking a loud kiss over the line in Regulus’ cheek.
Regulus growls quietly, grinning despite himself, “You’re lucky I love your cooking so much.”
“Yeah, you’re lucky,” Harry parrots, grinning widely.
James tuts with faux affront, “What kind of sentiments are you teaching our poor child, Regulus. I’ve been standing in this kitchen for hours now. How about a ‘Thank you, daddy’?”
“Thank you, daddy,” they both reply in unison though Regulus’ has a decidedly different tone to it that makes James point the spatula at him in warning.
Regulus just smirks before he leans heavily into James’ side and rips a piece of pancake off of the ones already on a plate, blowing on it before dividing it in half and feeding it to Harry and himself.
James tasks them with setting out glasses of water and orange juice, mugs for tea. On Sundays coffee is banned in the Potter house. Regulus thinks he can wind himself out of his caffeine addiction that way.
When everyone is done and everything is in place they all sit down together, legs tangled under the table, smiling warmly at each other over their plates of delicious food, the spring breeze ruffling their hair and clothes pleasantly as it drifts through the open window.

SERIES MASTERLIST
Gilded Constellations | (wolfstar x reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You meet Sirius and Regulus at a family vacation in the Caribbean, but things don't go as planned and you end up losing contact once the trip is over. Years later your family moves to England and you get accepted at Hogwarts where you finally meet Sirius once again, along with all of his friends. One of them with a mysterious secret, that you'll uncover as you embark on your own Hogwarts adventure. Mostly canon-compliant. This IS a wolfstar x reader fic, but it's incredibly slow burn. They won't start all dating each other until we're very deep into the story, but I promise the long wait will be worth it.

A/N: Most Poly!Marauders fics are oneshots, where the relationship between characters is already established, and they're all happy and pleased with it. No issues, no drama, but I WANTED the drama. Couldn't find it, so I set myself up to write the story behind the stablished relationship. I wanted to know how they started dating each other, the jealousy, the will they won't they, because getting into a poly relationship can't be an easy task, and I wanted to explore that story. If you're interested: Welcome to Gilded Constellations!

some moonwater nsfw for fun:
“Have you heard from Remus today?” Peter asked, fiddling with his keys as James bent down to tie his laces tighter. The last thing he needed was to eat shit on the way to the pub. Sirius would never let him live that down.
“He said he wasn’t feeling social,” James told him, “you know how he is. Prefers staying in.” They both glanced down the hall to Remus’ room, hoping he was feeling better.
“Should we ask him if he wants paracetamol or something? What if he has a cold? What if it spreads!?” Peter’s eyes went wide but James just snorted.
“Pete, you have the best immune system out of any of us, chill.”
“But I could be a carrier!”
“You’ll be fine, I promise.” James sighed as he stood up right. “Don’t bother Remus, leave him be.” James patted his back and nodded to the door, leaving Peter little chance to turn back now.
“Fine, but I’m buying him some tissues if he starts sneezing.” And they shut the door.
Silence.
A moan.
“Remus, they could still hear—“ Regulus gasped when he felt Remus rub deeper inside him and he slapped a hand over his mouth again, muffling the groan. Remus, lying across his back and looming over him, panted into Regulus’ ear.
“They can’t hear you…promise…please let it out, I want to hear you.” He nuzzled Regulus’ neck and his boyfriend sighed, letting his eyes roll back as Remus’ rocked his hips down. “Doesn’t it feel good?”
“Mhm.”
“Love.”
“Yes!” Regulus pulled his hands away to grip the sheets, fisting them as Remus reached places inside him he’d never felt before. “Oh god, you’re so deep—“
“I know, I know.” Remus pushed his nose against Regulus’ cheek and groaned. “I’m close.”
“Me too.” Regulus turned his head a little and pulled Remus down by his hair for a kiss, making him buck his hips hard. “Come on, puppy.”
“Oh—“ Remus’ snapped his hips forward again. “I’ll cum if you call me that.”
“Good.” Regulus smiled and Remus couldn’t resist him when he smiled. It felt too good, and being called puppy…it melted him. He moaned and gripped onto his boyfriends hips, fucking him into the mattress properly now that the others were gone. They’d silently been lying like this for almost ten minutes whilst James and Peter tottered about getting ready, and it had been almost impossible to not pound Regulus with how much he had been tightening around him. The fear of getting caught somehow turned him on, and Remus wasn’t complaining.
He liked the thrill of it too.
“Fuck, I’m gonna cum—“ Regulus choked out from beneath him and Remus bit his lip as he fucked him a little harder, wanting to feel him go over that edge.
“I’ve got you, I’ve got you.” He mumbled and groaned as he felt Regulus start to cum, which immediately triggered his own orgasm. They moved together, rocking and shaking as they slowly came down. Remus’ arms were struggling with his weight and Regulus smiled, gently tugging him back down so he was lying on him again.
“Feel better?” He teased, referring to his friends conversation. Remus chuckled, kissing across Regulus’ shoulders and neck.
“You’re evil.”
“I’m convincing.”
“Fucking when my friends are here is dangerous, you know.” Remus pointed out.
“Like they don’t get laid.”
“They do, but we’re louder.” Remus nipped Regulus’ ear to hear him sigh.
“You are, maybe. I can control myself.” Regulus leaned up for a kiss, knowing Remus would take that as a challenge.
What could he say? He was competitive by nature.

unfortunately, I cannot get behind the psycho Bartylus train. At least, most of the time. But! I see them very much as high school romance/sweethearts. Just the classic runaway love story. To me, they are the few sweeter ships.
However, I always saw Bartylus as the long-term, high school forbidden romance that ends with them running away and living out their happy life far away from shitty parents. They are each other's fairytale prince and princess!
They are the more realistic. Like any long-term relationship in high school, you can easily point out in the halls or in your friend group. There aren't any complex feelings of loyalty and devotion that borders on unhealthy (maybe a bit but never too much). If anything, their relationship is the most normal thing about them.
People tend to forget that Regulus is this wealthy, posh, basically royalty heir with the most insane imagination when he's studying in the library with Barty who is commonly viewed as the next leader of the Wizarding world, one of the smartest students of his age, and also a huge fucking pretentious dick that scares the first years. Their characters are strange to other people but it's quickly forgotten when they see Barty and Regulus at Madam Puddifoots' sitting across from each other, kissing and holding hands, and drinking tea from each other's cups.
I think it's also what makes them more tragic in a canon-compliant universe. They were just teenagers in love.
I also don't see them being this interested in these [insert disturbing thing] as a metaphor for their love because they are each other's comfort space, where there isn't anything complex, just simple, soft love like the ones you see in movies or read in books.
Bartylus takes the most vulnerable parts of Barty and Regulus and runs with it honestly.

a little silly jegulus for my darling @veryinnovative !! happy birthday ino MWAH <333 (very very light nsfw)
"What the fuck did I just walk into?"
Regulus doesn't even bother to look up from where he's sitting on the floor, head between his knees as he waits for God—or whoever is up there, really, he isn't fussed—to fucking smite him. He does, however, let out a pitiful sound, both in acknowledgement and as a response. It doesn't explain much, he's aware of that, but Barty knows him enough at this point. He doesn't require anything else from him.
"Yeah, I can see you're having a bit of a breakdown," Barty huffs out, and Regulus hears his steps, light and careful, getting closer to him. "What brought it on this time, though? I literally just went to the corner shop to grab some Redbulls. It's been 15 minutes since I left and you were fine."
Regulus makes another pathetic noise, still refusing to raise his head. This one is a bit more petulant, because Barty has a talent for bringing out his pettiest side, even when he's experiencing unknown levels of distress.
"Babe, I'm gonna need you to give me something else," Barty insists, before sighing heavily. His walking comes to a halt, and Regulus doesn't need to check to know he's standing right in front of him.
He groans, but decides to be merciful, despite being aware that Barty knowing about what's upsetting him this much won't do him any favours. Barty can be a surprisingly supportive friend when it matters, but he's insufferable when he's right.
Regulus lifts his arm and points to his left, hoping he's being accurate enough, considering he isn't even looking. He keeps the position for a couple of seconds before dropping the arm back down, going back to hugging his legs tightly.
Barty begins moving once again, but stops after taking a few steps. "And what the fuck does that mean?" Barty exclaims, and Regulus can picture him throwing his hands up in the air. It almost drags a smile out of him. "You pointed at the couch. Am I supposed to believe our couch attacked you?"
Regulus exhales loudly through his nose, but doesn't deign that with a response.
"Because even if it did, Reg, I'm sorry to say you're gonna have get over yourself and your cute little breakdown. That couch cost us a fortune, and it's where Rosie first kissed me, so I refuse to—"
A sudden buzz interrupts Barty's train of thought. It makes Regulus' blood go cold, and he attempts to bury his face even deeper between his legs, a pained moan escaping his mouth as his face burns.
"What was that?" Barty mumbles, pacing around their living room. "Was it your phone? Why don't you have your phone on you?"
Regulus lets out a grumble, burrowing himself tighter in his own embrace while he listens to his best friend search for the origin of the sound.
It buzzes again, and Regulus is this close to grab the stupid device and throw it out the window, when Barty clicks his tongue, some ruffling following the noise.
"There it is," he says quietly. "Why the hell did you bury it under all the cushions? I know you're not a big fan of it, but this is simply—"
Realisation dawns on Regulus way too late, and by the time he snaps his head up, clumsily trying to get back on his feet as fast as possible but only ending up on his knees, Barty already has his phone in his hands. His eyes are wide, lips slightly parted, and he seems to be reading Regulus' notifications.
He's never regretted giving him his password as much as this instant.
"Barty, that's not—" Regulus starts, strained.
"Oh my fucking god," Barty murmurs, gaze fixated on the screen of the phone. He's not even blinking, and the stupid thing buzzes again, lighting up with a new message.
"Shut up," Regulus says, the blush on his face worsening by the second, as if it knows what's coming.
"I told you," Barty responds, still not looking away from Regulus' phone. "I fucking told you, dude—"
"Shut up!" Regulus repeats in a hiss, pushing himself up a little shakily but managing to regain his balance, not even hesitating before beginning to make his way towards his friend. "Give me my phone back!"
"No way," Barty snorts, dodging Regulus at the very last second, barely avoiding getting tackled into the couch. "This is too good, Reg, I can't believe you fucked up this badly. I would've killed myself if I were you—"
"Shut the fuck up!" Regulus snarls, cheeks aflame while he follows Barty around their apartment, attempting to get his phone back. "As if you're not completely shameless—"
"At least I've never been caught screenshotting my crush's thirst traps—"
"He's not my crush! I literally cannot stand him!"
Barty barks out a laugh, and it makes him falter enough for Regulus to get ahold of the hem of his shirt. However, his grasp is too loose, and Barty breaks away from it before Regulus can tighten it and finally take back what's rightfully his.
"Tell that to the dozen screenshots of his shirtless pics you have in your gallery."
Regulus makes an outraged sound, doubling his efforts, the heat in his face becoming almost unbearable as he chases his annoying best friend.
"That's an invasion of privacy!" he yells, grabbing one of the cushions and throwing it at Barty's head. He hits him right on the face, and it makes him feel considerably better, especially when Barty gives him his most deadpan expression. "Why are you in my gallery?"
"Well, Reg, after reading Potter's texts I got curious. I thought 'it can't be that bad, Reg is subtler than this' but it definitely can be that bad—"
"Stop! You're making such a big deal out of it, there's barely any—"
"Reg, babe, you have a folder just dedicated to James Potter's snapchats."
"It's for better organisation—"
"You must've been blowing his phone up with all those screenshots. Honestly, I don't understand how he hansn't blocked your creepy ass yet—"
"I know you aren't lecturing me about being creepy. You just aren't. Or do I have to remind you the kind of shit you pulled back when Evan wasn't giving you the time of day—"
"The joke's on you, idiot, Rosie is very much into my creepy shit," Barty retorts, stopping for a second just so he can put his hands on his hips and stare down at Regulus. "Although, I suppose Potter must like your freak behaviour too, considering how desperate he seems to be about getting you to reply. Not like I'm surprised, it's gotta be a boost to his massive ego—"
"Stop. Stop. Stop fucking talking—" Regulus lunges at him once more, but Barty is prepared every fucking time, avoiding him without breaking a sweat. "This is all your fault!"
Barty gapes at him. "How is this my fault? I warned you, dude! I told you people get notifications when you screenshot their stories—"
"Well, you didn't warn me hard enough!" Regulus schreeches, burying his hands inside his curls and pulling frantically. He feels like he's a breeze way from losing his shit. "James followed me back out of fucking nowhere, even though I was on my secret account, and then he began texting me all these things. Teasing me, making fun of me, always so fucking full of himself. And as if that weren't bad enough, then my brother also texted me just to sent me a voice note of himself laughing his ass off for two minutes—"
"I don't blame him," Barty snorts with a shake of his head. "Doesn't he live with Potter?"
"Yes. Yes, he does," Regulus mumbles, nearly hysterical. "And I really didn't need the reminder—"
"Sorry, sorry." Barty doesn't sound sorry in the slightest. "Listen, it might not be as bad as you think. Potter will get tired of you ignoring him soon, and then he'll give up and drop it, and this will just become an anecdote that we'll all laugh about in a couple of months. I mean, I'm already laughing."
Regulus stops trying to tear his hair out for a moment, narrowed eyes focusing on his best friend as he squirms in his place, shifting the weight from one foot to another. "You think so?"
"I know so," Barty assures him, and his confidence is somehow relieving, even though Regulus knows better than to trust anything that comes out of his big mouth. "You can finish having you breakdown, if you want, but you have nothing to—"
Another buzz cuts Barty off. The noise makes Regulus tense up almost unconsciously, because after today, he doesn't think he'll be able to listen to the bloody sound without having a heart attack. His shoulders relax slightly a second later, before going stiff once more when the buzzing doesn't stop.
"Oh," Barty whispers, eloquently. "Someone's calling."
"Don't—"
"Potter is calling."
"Fuck," Regulus says, with feeling. "Fuck."
"Yeaaaah," Barty drawls, gaze jumping from the vibrating phone in his hand to Regulus' panicked face. He's wearing that irritating shit-eating grin of his. "Forget what I said. I was lying anyway. You're fucked, dude."
"Shut your fucking mouth and hang up," Regulus snaps, heart beating so violently he can feel it in his fucking throat.
Barty tilts his head to the side, considering. Regulus gives him a warning look, getting mildly sick at the way in which Barty's smirk only appears to spread even wider. "Where's the fun in that, though?"
Regulus feels himself go pale, bile climbing up his throat. He swallows it back down with some struggle, his insides burning.
"You wouldn't," he mumbles, his phone still ringing.
"Wouldn't I?" Barty questions, arching in an eyebrow.
"Barty—"
His best friend is picking up the phone even before Regulus has finished uttering his name. Barty presses the device next to his ear a second later, and there's an almost manic quality to his grin.
"Hey, Potter," he greets, voice filled with glee. Regulus almost screams. "Yeah, yeah, he's here, why?"
Regulus shakes his head furiously, hands moving widely and forming cross after cross, despite Barty ignoring every single one of his signs. His best friend starts walking towards him, and Regulus retreats hastily until his back meets the wall.
"Oh, you wanna speak to him?" Barty is saying into the phone, gaze never leaving Regulus. "And it's urgent? Hm."
Please, Regulus says inaudibly, the perfect picture of desperation.
There's a pause, and for a brief moment, Regulus thinks Barty is about to take pity on him. Put an end to the joke before it ruins what's left of Regulus' dignity.
But Barty is Barty, and considering he seems to feed on Regulus' misery, he ends up smiling big, showing all of his teeth, before he gives James another affirmative reply and then he's handing the phone to Regulus.
He's convinced that Barty has never spoken this politely to James, but Regulus supposes that Barty is more than willing to put his hatred aside when the goal is to take the piss out of him.
Regulus clutches the phone and slowly, his hand shaking, he presses it to his ear. He doesn't say anything, but he lets out a shuddery exhale.
"Regulus?" James murmurs at the other side of the line, and the sound of his voice is nearly enough for him to drop the phone.
"Yeah?" he responds after a beat, the word coming out surprisingly calm.
"Finally done ignoring me?" James questions, and Regulus closes his eyes tight, turning away from Barty's figure. If he has to keep staring at him poorly repressing his laughter, he'll end up murdering him.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Regulus sniffs.
"Oh, don't you?" James chuckles, amused, and Regulus hates the havoc that that mere noise wrecks inside his guts. "There's nothing to be ashamed of, love. I'm very flattered, you know?"
"I bet you are," Regulus bites back, glaring at nowhere in particular. "It really isn't what you think—"
"No? You haven't been taking screenshots of all my shirtless pics?"
"Not all of them were shirtless pics," Regulus complains weakly.
James laughs again, louder this time, and it fill his chest with warmth. "True. I think there was a couple of selfies, too."
"And that one pic with your little cousin," Regulus adds, because he hates himself, apparently.
Barty's cackles turn unbearable, and Regulus' fingers twitch around his phone. He's making a run for his room a second later, slamming the door right behind him, even though the walls are so thin he can still hear the faint sound of his best friend's laughter.
"Ah, yes," James hums, seemingly deep in thought. "That one threw me off a little."
"How so?"
"You see, I assumed you were just collecting wanking material—"
"James!" Regulus hisses through gritted teeth, so ridiculously flustered he feels mildy dizzy. "Don't be disgusting!"
"Nothing wrong with that," James rushes to say, and Regulus hates how sincere he sounds. How pleased.
"Really? You wouldn't find it weird? Knowing that I—that someone has masturbated to your pictures?"
"Well, have you?"
"You wish."
"I do," James retorts without missing a beat, always so shameless. "It'd make me feel better about all the times I've jerked off to the thought of you."
Regulus sits down on the edge of his bed, knees failing him and ears ringing. He swears he can feel his soul leaving his body.
"What?" he says, voice embarrasingly high-pitched.
"What?" James repeats it with a laugh, as if this is all very amusing to him. "Say, love, what are you wearing right now?"
Regulus pulls his phone away from his ear momentarily, blinking at the screen. The call is real, and still ongoing, even though Regulus is certain he must be imagining this whole conversation, because there's simply no way.
"No," he retorts robotically as soon as the phone is back against his ear.
"No?" James inquires, some hesitance slipping into his tone.
"We're not doing this," Regulus insists.
"And what's 'this', hmm?"
"You know what! I don't know what game you're playing, Potter, but I want no part in it."
"There's no game, love. I mean this."
"No, you don't."
"No offence, Reg, but I think I know what I want better than you do."
Regulus laughs, but it's nervous, and shaky, and forced. "And what do you want?" he asks, trying his best to sound as mocking as possible. Regulus isn't sure he does a good job. "Me?"
"Yeah. Yeah. I want you so bad it's actually driving me insane."
Regulus lets out a choked off noise, and the urge to throw his phone against the wall is so strong he has no idea of how he manages to supress it.
There's a moment of silence, and then, "Regulus," James calls him again, and he straightens up as a reflex. "What are you wearing right now?"
Regulus rolls his lower lip between his teeth, pressing his thighs together. "Just some shorts and one of Barty's shirts."
There's a sharp inhale of breath.
"I hate that," James grumbles, and Regulus can feel himself frown.
"Well, I'm sorry it's not anything sexy, but I wasn't expecting—"
"No, no, it's not that, love, you look gorgeous in everything."
Regulus puts the back of his hand over his mouth, despite the fact that there's no one to see his smile.
"Then?" he questions.
"I just—you're wearing his clothes."
"Who's? Barty's?" Regulus blinks a couple of times. "Yes, of course, he's my friend—"
"Just that? Just your friend?"
"Why, Potter? Are you jealous?"
"Reg—"
"Yeah, James," Regulus sighs, probably sounding more pleased than he should. "He's just a friend."
"Good. Good."
"You know, this talk isn't really turning me on."
James chuckles softly, and Regulus' cheeks hurt from how big he's smiling.
"Aw, man, really?" he whines, almost making Regulus laugh. "That's such a shame. I've been half-hard since we started talking."
"James!" Regulus scolds him, but it probably doesn't have the desired effect, considering his grin is basically audible.
"I'm serious!" he laughs, and Regulus shakes his head, leaning back until his back touches the bed. "It's not my fault your cock is so fussy—"
"Don't have a cock," Regulus answers without thinking.
James falls silent, and Regulus is about to take it back, laugh it off or even hang up without an explanation, but then James is speaking up again.
"A cunt, then," James says, and he sounds okay, casual, even if a little stiff. "Is that—are you comfortable with that word, or...?"
"Yeah," Regulus tells him softly, almost in a sigh. "I don't really mind that much, I just—I didn't want you to think—"
"It's completely fine, love. Really. Doesn't make any difference to me. And I know I shouldn't have assumed—"
"You're fine, James," Regulus reassures him, endlessly endeared by this ridiculous man.
"I'm glad, because I genuinely want to do this," James says quietly, like it's a secret. A confession only meant for Regulus' ears.
"And what's 'this'? Phone sex?"
"That, and a date."
Regulus stops breating. "A date?"
"A date," James affirms. "More than one, hopefully, but I'm trying not to push my luck."
"Aren't you doing this a bit backwards? Considering you're already attempting to get in my pants."
"Maybe. But I'm very impatient, and I've been waiting for this a while, love."
Regulus goes silent, pretending to think it over. James' tension is palpable even through the phone, and he delights a little in making him squirm for once.
"Okay," he ends up saying, hoping his enthusiasm isn't too obvious.
"Okay?" James repeats dumbly.
"Okay, I'll go on a date with you."
"Shit, really?" James sounds so excited it drags a giggle out of Regulus. "That's—fucking amazing, we're gonna have so much fun, Reg—"
"And about that phone sex," he goes on, casting a glance at his closed door, "you can call me again tonight, and then we'll see.
James' breath hitches on the other side of the line, and Regulus presses his legs even closer together. He hasn't felt this giddy in quite a long time.
Horny, too, but he thinks the wait will be more than worth it.
"Yeah?" James exhales.
"Yeah."
Regulus is already counting down the minutes.

@jegulus-microfic | march 31: body hair | 876 words
regulus calls the fire station when a strange burn mark appears in his house and fireman james comes to investigate (cw: mentions of sex and someone nearly gets set on fire but doesn't get hurt)
Barty is laughing. Regulus is in the middle of a crisis and Barty has the nerve to laugh at him. He knows he must look ridiculous, pulling at his plaid pyjama bottoms, zipping and unzipping his ratty hoodie, and adjusting his hair using every reflective surface in his house, but how was he meant to know the local firemen had become hot?
He’d called the fire station earlier in the day after finding a mysterious hole burned into his downstairs carpet. Stumbling downstairs in a desperate search for coffee at 7 am he’d spotted it from the corner of his eye. It was quite small and in an odd place, just in front of a cupboard he barely used, and it looked almost as if some acid had corroded his floor.
Regulus had hounded Barty, his best friend and current roommate, but Barty swore it wasn’t him. Though he didn’t quite believe him, it was too big to be a cigarette burn which did, annoyingly, put the blame on something else.
However, what that something is he still has no clue, and it’s been driving him a bit insane. He had sat in front of the hole cradling his massive mug of coffee with his chin resting on his knees just..glaring at it. For hours, until he’d been dragged away from it and forced onto the sofa instead.
The fire brigade had taken forever to get there, he’d thought they’d forgotten him and was about to phone them again (third time’s a charm) when the doorbell echoed and he jumped up, tripping over his feet in the rush to get to the door while flipping Barty off for laughing at his urgency.
He’d yanked the door open, flushed and breathing heavier than normal and proceeded to immediately choke on his words because the man standing in his doorway was the fittest person he had ever had the pleasure of seeing.
Messy brown hair, big hazel eyes framed by gold wire, and soft rosy lips. His brain short-circuited and all he could think of was what those lips would look like wrapped around him. He was screwed.
Now the hot fireman (James, he’d learned), is on his hands and knees inspecting the floor, and Regulus is lost for words. He’s pretty sure he’s drooling actually. His arse….dear lord. You could end world hunger with it. Regulus wants nothing more than to dig his teeth into it. Maybe take a chunk out of it and bring it with him wherever he goes as a reminder that the world is a beautiful and wonderful place.
James chooses that exact moment to sit up and take off his jacket, revealing the sluttiest shirt he’s ever seen. This uniform should be fucking illegal. It’s so tight that Regulus can see every single curve, every dimple, every line of the man’s body, it barely fits him, he is bursting out of it, the material squeezing the top of his arms. He wonders how the seams haven't burst yet.
His arms. Wow.
They’re huge and covered in black ink, two full sleeves of intricate patterns and whenever he moves they flex, golden brown skin glinting in the light. He’s definitely drooling now. Barty has to lean over and shut his mouth for him.
“So, James is it?” Barty says, smirking, and Regulus has never turned his head so fast, glaring at his soon-to-be ex-best friend, right eye twitching. He wouldn’t fucking dare…oh who was he kidding of course he would, he lives to make Regulus’ life a living hell. He should have kicked Barty out the minute James got here.
James hums in affirmation as he goes back to probing the hole in the carpet. Regulus wishes that was him.
He can see Barty’s smug smile and his eyes twinkling and starts slowly approaching, moving into hitting distance. “You got a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend of course, there’s just no way a hot guy like you is singl-ow fuck!” he breaks off as Regulus elbows him sharply in the side while hissing at him to shut up.
James turns around with a cocked eyebrow, smiling, and lets out a chuckle, “Nope, no girlfriend,” then looks straight at Regulus, gazing deep into his soul as if he’s searching for something, “or boyfriend,” and he winks. HE WINKS. Regulus cannot handle this man he feels a bit faint.
As he flops down on the sofa he sees James stretching, his arms reaching above his head looking like some form of God, his shirt lifting and revealing a strip of soft skin and a line of thick black hair leading down and down and down…his eyes follow it, he’s unable to look away. Regulus loves a guy with body hair, but happy trails have always sent him crazy.
He picks up a pillow and holds it over his crotch hoping he’s being subtle, but by Barty’s sudden cackle, he guesses not so much. Although he doesn’t have to worry about it for long as James goes back to poking around, chuckling a bit under his breath until a huge fucking white spark bursts from his floor effectively stopping the laughter but also setting his carpet on fire.
Huh. That’s probably not a good sign.

“Heels” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 574 words

Regulus is nervous. He feels confident, but he’s still nervous. He’s standing in front of the mirror looking at his outfit one last time. He’s wearing a green jumper that hugs him at the waist and a grey pleated skirt he knows James loves. It’s one of James’ favorites so Regulus wears it often, it’s just that he normally wears it with his docs, or sometimes his chucks because they always make James smile. This is the first time he’s wearing the skirt with heels. The first time he’s wearing heels at all. They’re simple black heels and Regulus thinks they look good. He thinks he look good, and he feels good, but he’s still nervous.
With one last deep breath he walks out of their bedroom and down the hall. He takes one step into the living room, and it seems that’s where his confidence ends. Regulus is frozen, he couldn’t take another step even if he wanted to. He opens his mouth, but no words come out. He’s stuck, rooted to the floor until James will notice him. And James always notices him, so he’s already standing up and turning around. And now James is frozen also.
He doesn’t walk over to Regulus, and he doesn’t say a word. He just stands with his mouth open, and his eyebrows slightly furrowed as his eyes scan Regulus’ body. Normally James’ gaze doesn’t bother Regulus at all, he loves it actually. But right now, it feels like his skin is boiling as James’ eyes travel down his body until they land on the heels. James shakes his head slightly as if he’s coming out of a trance then blinks a few times as several different emotions flash in his eyes; each one more unreadable than the last. James still hasn’t said anything, and Regulus’ bottom lip begins to quiver.
He can feel his eyes filling with tears, but he seems to finally regain control of his legs, so he turns to leave the room. Only to feel James’ hand on his wrist tugging him back around. Thank God James is right there because as confident as Regulus once was in the heels, he isn’t anymore, and he stumbles forward right into James’ chest. James catches him easily with his hands around his waist. Once Regulus is steady on his feet again, James pulls back but only enough so he can move one hand to Regulus’ chin to tilt his head up.
“You look incredible.” he whispers as he looks deep into Regulus’ eyes.
Regulus blinks a few times and swallows nervously.
“Really?” He says and his voice cracks a bit.
James uses his thumb to brush away a tear from Regulus’ cheek.
“You look stunning. You are the most beautiful man I have ever seen.”
Regulus smiles and lets out a small, wet laugh as he buries his face in James’ chest. James holds him tight and kisses his temple then leans down to whisper in his ear.
“And the heels are sexy as hell.”
His voice makes Regulus shiver, and he pulls back a bit so he can kiss James.
When they break apart James smiles at him with an infinite amount of love in his eyes. But then his smile turns into a small smirk.
“And you can almost look me in the eye.”
“Oh, shut up.” Regulus slaps his shoulder before wrapping his arms around James’ neck and kissing him again.

September 20 - Fog | @into-the-jeggyverse | wc: 762
“Don’t go into the forest when the fog is out,” Effie warns a young James when she’s watching them run around the backyard and get close to the fence gate that leads to the forest behind their house. James was too scared to get near the forest at night, let alone when they can’t see anything.
“Don’t go into the forest when the fog is out.” Marlene’s mum calls out to the three pre-teens while they’re playing ghost in the graveyard. Marlene moaned about it because she wanted to hide in the forest knowing that James and Pete were too scared of the forest to go there. “Don’t go into the forest when the fog is out.” Monty chides when Remus, James, Pete, Marlene, and the girls get too close to the fence during the week that they could all get together during the summer breaks.
“Don’t go into the forest when the fog is out!” James calls to their drunken friends when they start stumbling towards the fence.
James knows. They know not to go into the forest when the fog is out. They know that the forest is already hard to navigate at night -- they’ve done that enough with their free time now that they’re not afraid of the forest -- and they can imagine that it is twelve times harder when the fog has settled.
But their attention had been grabbed at this point, because there was a pale figure standing at their fence line, pale but not ghost-like in that they were visible and they had black hair. James swears that they made eye contact with the figure before they walked away from the fence and swept away. So they’re grabbing a flashlight and heading out into the fog.
They’re wandering into the woods for only so long before the same figure from before is peeking around a tree and once again making eye contact with James, heading further into the woods shortly after. As James chases them, they notice that the fog swirls around the figure’s feet, almost pushing away from them as to clear their path and they nearly glide through the forest -- which is impressive considering the amount of roots and odd terrain that is all over the place.
Eventually, the figure turns around when they get into a clearing that James can barely see the edges of with how dense the fog is, “Why did you follow me?”
“Are you okay? What are you doing out here?”
The figure tilts their head a bit, “This is my home, why did you follow me now but never before?”
James furrows their brows, “I… I never saw you before.”
“You were scared of me.” He says, his voice deeper than James would’ve expected, and his eyes are stabbing into James with their ferocity, “You never saw me because you avoided me.”
“I wasn’t scared of you, I was scared of the woods.”
“You’re not scared of me?”
James shakes their head, “Who are you?”
“Regulus. I’ve lived in the woods a long time.”
“Are you the reason that people say not to go into the fog at night?”
Regulus shrugs, “I might be, the fog is my home.” He takes a couple steps towards James, slowly getting nearer.
“And you’ve been wanting me to follow you into the forest.”
“I think you’re interesting, but you’ve never noticed me.” He grins slyly, almost directly in front of James by now, “Do you think I’m interesting? Is that why you followed me into the woods even when you’re not supposed to?”
“Interesting is… one way to put it.”
“What way would you put it?”
“Attractive…” James hums, taking the final step until they’re chest to chest -- the boy is colder than James would’ve figured and has to tilt his head to continue meeting their eyes, “Pretty.”
“I find it odd that you think those are synonyms to interesting.”
“I find it odd that you lured me into the forest because you thought I was interesting.”
“I suppose.” Regulus’ grin widens, “And yet you followed, and you’re going to continue to follow me.” And with that, he grabs James’ wrist and pulls him out of the clearing and further into the forest.
When James comes back out of the forest and slips through the gate leading into his backyard, they’ve got new bruises on their neck and their hair is messier and more grass filled than it was when they left. Luckily, since it is so late and the fog has scared everyone off, no one sees their messy state.

The movie was just that bad
Barbie dolls: jegugily x reader (James, regulus, Lily, you)
Word: 2.4k ish
Summary: okay so basically you're feeling all left out so you go to bed early and Lily is like 🤨 and then communication happens 🤢
warnings: you crochet, insecure thoughts and feelings we've all been there it's cool, immature ways of handling a situation for a few seconds, bad poop jokex2 I thought it was silly :(, lily is very loving, feeling like a third fourth wheel, feet mentioned not in any particular manner James is just annoying Reg, reg calls James 'girl' in a dude way yk like "dude shut up" "girl move" yk so if you think of James as trans it could possibly be a little misgendering but like it's not got any evil undertones it's reg being lovingly annoyed with James, James calls you pretty, reg is a mind-reader a lil, Lily has big thighs it's cannon to me that she's plus sized so argue with the wall, Google translate French, that's all <3
Request: how did you know
You felt sick to your stomach. You love all three of your partners, how could you not? But you felt like you were being shunned. You were the first in the living room. You had a long sofa and next to that was an armchair sat sideways. Regulus was off in the kitchen with Lily, making dinner. James was in the bathroom taking a shower. All was well. You cozied up in the armchair, pulling out your crochet project. You heard James' music slipping past the bathroom door. Regulus and Lily were laughing in the kitchen. You smiled at the sound of their voices.
When James finished his shower, he walked through the living room. His towel was tied around his waist slut and he was waving his glasses in the air to get rid of the fog. James popped a kiss on your temple before heading to the bedroom. Dinner was finished, you four ate like normal. It was good until you noticed the others were doing all the talking. They didn't even glance over at you. You ignored it, chalking it up to them being really interested in their conversation. Then you all went back to the living room. Lily turned on a movie. You moved back into your chair. You picked up your crochet again, only now extremely aware of the silence from your partners. They were all piled on the couch, snuggling against each other. All while you sat in the arm chair.
It shouldn't be this serious. They just weren't giving you attention for a handful of hours, but felt like a stab in the heart. There they were all cuddled up against each other, and they hadn't spoken to you since lunch if even that. Regulus had his head in Lily's lap, her fingers tugging through his hair. James was snuggled up against her side. James was hugging her arm to his chest. He had his hand over Regulus' shoulder intertwining his fingers with Regulus'. And you were sitting cross legged in an armchair. You felt like you were miles away from them.
Although you had been dating a while, you joined their relationship last. They were already so comfortable with each other, they had inside jokes, they had bits between each other, they were already so far into their comfortability with another. You were behind, even now. Regulus and James were actively wearing matching pajama pants. You stared at them. you wanted to be curled up with them, but you didn't want to be greedy. Begging for affection from your partners felt strange to you. They'd have to change their postition, they'd probaly miss a few mintutes of the movie, and you'd have to face the total embarrassment of having human wants.
You couldn't handle seeing them together though. It hurt too much to see their domestic love while you were craving it yourself. You weren't going to make a scene though. You set your project and hook on the small table next to you. You stood and quietly left the room. You headed into the hallway that attached the bathroom and your bedroom to the living room.
James, Regulus, and Lily thought nothing of it, they all use the restroom it's quite normal. You didn't go into the restroom, though. You went into the bedroom. The light was already off. You tucked yourself under the covers of your shared bed. You just wanted to wallow in self pity on your own for a little. Then in the morning you'd be mature and bring it up with them, properly communicating. Just not tonight, you needed to sit in your yucky human feelings for a few hours.
The boys were highly focused on the film, they knew you had left the room a while ago. They assumed you were just fighting for your life in the bathroom, which you enjoyed to do alone so they weren't worried. Lily was though. She noticed that you were kind of quiet during dinner. Then very quiet during movie time. Then you got up and left. The movie was boring to her and probably you, but not that boring. She decided she would check on you in the bathroom. Maybe you fell in.
Lily stood up from the couch, not without James whining and Regulus grunting disapprovingly, and walked towards the bathroom. When she reached the door she noticed the lights weren't on and the door was open. Lily knew you walked into this hallway and she was pretty sure you weren't a ghost so she moved further down the hall. She gently pushed open the door bedroom door. Lily found your head of hair resting on your pillow, blankets tugged up to your ear. You must've gotten a headache. She stepped over to your side of the bed. Lily gently pushed your hair away from your temple. She kissed you on your forehead.
"Headache?" Lily whispered. You shook your head against the pillow. She paused and tried to figure out what could be making you feel like an early bedtime was better than sitting through a movie with them.
"You okay?" You once again shook your head. Lily frpwned. She tucked the blankets under your side, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"What's going on? Can I help?" You shrugged. Lily gently rubbed your arm. She asked you to look at her. You both sat in silence a moment before you turned in the covers. You laid on your back and slumped your head to the side, finally meeting her eyes. Lily pleaded with you to talk to her with her face. You sighed.
"I just feel behind and like just" You trailed off trying to think of the right way to describe your thoughts. If you had your self pity time you would've figured it out, but alas your loving girlfriend was loving girlfriend-ing. "Unneeded, I suppose." Lily gave you a sad look, tilting her head to the side.
"Can you expand?" You sighed. You hated voicing things. You much preferred writing it all out, dropping it in front of them, and dashing away into the other room. Regulus was similar although he often left his feelings hung up on the fridge with one of James' strange magnets. You sat up, the blankets collecting in your lap.
"It's like you guys are already so in tune and used to each other being in your lives, I feel like a third wheel. Although this would technically be a fourth wheel but that's just semantics. I know I should be over this by now but it's hard. It feels like I could disappear and you guys' day to day wouln't change at all. I feel secondary and greedy." You hit your hands on the comforter over your lap. Lily grabbed your hands, bringing your attention back to her. Her eyebrows were pulled together. She seemed closer to tears than you did. You noticed a lack of background noise, the movie must've hit a long and quiet dialogue. Lily squeezed your hands.
"I'm so sorry you felt like that. It was never our intention to make you hurt like this. You're so important to us. Our day to day would be ripped to sheds without you. You're allowed to feel like this, you aren't greedy and you don't have to be over it. It doesn't mean you deserve it though. We love you, I love you. I thought you weren't feeling cuddles tonight, that's the only reason I didn't' call you over. I'm so sorry, baby." Lily sealed her apology with a kiss to your cheek. You nodded. You looked down at your lap, you still felt like you were making a big deal out of something so stupid. You did feel a little better though. Lily stood up from the bed. You kept your hold on her hand.
"I'm going to go get the boys." You shook your head. They actually enjoyed the movie, unlike you.
"No don't. They're having fun with their movie, you can go back to them. I just want to lay here. Just don't tell them." You held onto her hand with both of yours. She gave you a disapproving look.
"Just because they're having a fun time doesn't mean you don't deserve to." You grimaced. You muttered pleases, as she tried to pull her hand from you. The door opened before she could leave. James popped his head in first.
"Hey guys you know there's a movie in the other room" James said. His joke made him smile. His eyes crinkling. Regulus pushed him into the room, following in. James' smile slowly fell as he saw the sad looks on both yours' and Lily's faces.
"What happened in here?" Regulus muttered. He picked up the damper mood as well. James flung himself into the bed. You bounced. You felt like a cartoon, being in such a sour mood while jumping up and down from James' weight. He pressed his face to your upper arm. Regulus squinted at you and Lily sharing a look. He moved towards the bed sitting on the edge, closer to the foot of the bed. James rubbed his fuzzy socks up and down Regulus' arm. Regulus grimaced deeply and smacked him away. James giggled against your arm. Regulus rolled his eyes before looking back to you.
"We're feeling a lot of big feelings today." Lily said, sitting back down on the bed. You glared at her. James picked his head up, looking up at you. Regulus scooted closer to you, crossing his legs on the bed.
"Do not infantilize me." You grumbled, sitting back against the pillows. Lily shook her head.
"I'm not-" Regulus cut Lily off with a disagreeing whine.
"Just a little." He mumbled. James ignored them both, staring at you with wide eyes.
"What's going on, darling?" You shrugged. Just don't answer their questions. What can they do? You sat in silence for a moment. You felt the weight of their eyes on you. You truly wished you could fall asleep faster, they would never wake you up for this communication nonsense. Regulus pulled himself up onto his hands and knees. He crawled between you and James shooing him out of the way.
"Move."
"I'm very comfortable where I am thank you."
"Girl, I said move."
"You're so demanding." James muttered as he scooted to the side. Regulus sat next to you, pulling your hands into his.
"I think I know what's going on." Regulus whispered to you. Lily scoffed and rolled her eyes. James shook his head and stared at Regulus.
"Oh yeah, Mr magical I-know-everything man what do you think is going on?" James asked. Regulus snapped his head to face James next to him.
"Shut up." Regulus seethed, hissing through his teeth. He turned back to you and his expression softened. "I joined these dickheads after they were dating and I felt all rejected and behind. Is that what this is about?" Regulus whispered. You nodded your head, holding onto his hands tighter. James made a sad sound behind Regulus.
"That's okay, you feel like we're already comfortable and you'd be intruding? Jealous but in a self-deprecating way?" Regulus gently cupped your cheek with one hand. You nodded. You turned your head, pressing a kiss to his palm. James screeched and pushed his head over Regulus' shoulder.
"You'd think we would've figured this out by now. I'm sorry, pretty." James frowned and pushed his face further into Regulus' shoulder. His face was squished making his glasses slip down a little. Lily rubbed your shoulder.
"Seriously we're really sorry." Lily whispered. At the mention of the word serious James looked up with a grin. Lily held up a hand in his direction. "Do not." James deflated and hid in Regulus' shoulder.
"When did this flare up today? Was it when we were in the kitchen?" Regulus asked, dragging your attention back to him. You grimaced and shook your head. He ran his thumb over your cheekbone, encouraging you to continue.
"Dinner, but really with the movie." Your voice was barely above a breath. You were exhausted from crying in the dark and exhausted from communicating. Regulus nodded and kissed your forehead. James gasped loudly and flung himself over Regulus' legs. He laid on his stomach, kicking his legs up in the air, and supporting his head with his fist.
"Do you want cuddles?" James asked. Lily stared at James for a moment.
"I feel like you're not taking this seriously, and it's upsetting me." Lily said. James' shoulders sunk. He looked away from you to Lily.
"I'm trying to be positive, but you're over here being a Pessimistic Pandora." James poked Lily's plush thighs that rolled up her sleepy shorts when she sat down. Lily glared at him lovingly.
"Don't bring Pandora into this." Regulus argued. James moved his attention to Regulus.
"You're upsetting your partner, look at them." Lily cupped your face as she spoke. You made an exaggerated sad face. She whined and pressed her cheek against yours. "so sad." Lily muttered. James quickly tackled you wrapping you in his warm arms.
"James you're crushing me." You whispered to him. He shook his head against your neck. James turned his head, pecking you all over your face. You let out a laugh, gripping his shoulders for support.
"Crushing you with my love." James said. He scooted further down your body, resting his head on your chest. James held onto you gently now. Regulus laid down next to the both of you. He settled one hand on your shoulder, dropping his head next to yours on your pillow. Regulus gently kissed your cheek. He lingered for a moment before pulling back. Regulus settled against the pillow again.
"I love you, bien-aimé." You melted against him. You turned your head towards him. You pressed your forehead against Regulus'. You felt Lily scooting down the bed too. She pulled your arm off the mattress, and tugging it over her shoulders. She whispered for James to move down. He obliged. James pressed his face into your stomach. Regulus dropped his other hand to James hair, twirling James' curls around his finger. Lily rested her head on your chest. You rubbed her shoulder with your hand. That's how you four fell asleep, giving you all the proper cuddles. In the morning James made pancakes for everyone. Your stack had 'I <3 u' written in chocolate chips. Lily made the fridge magnets into a heart with your initial inside. Next to the grocery list, next to the heart, was a long winded love letter in Regulus' swirly handwriting.

Of course James knows what Mistletoe is!
for @siriuslygay1981 - AU- everyone lives, no voldemort - jegulus holiday fluff
He knew what mistletoe was, of course.
In theory.
It was a plant. That one kissed under. Easy enough.
So when the holidays approached and he still hadn't succeeded in building up the courage to kiss the object of his affections, forgive him for taking up a new tactic. It was festive.
The first step?
Get a plant, of course.
But it was cold! It was snowy, and windy, and he didn't really fancy bundling up. So, he figured, all plants were basically the same, right? (He was a very smart person but he wasn't exactly a star in Herbology.)
Good thing he knew where the kitchens were.
He grinned to himself, praising his own intelligence, as he left the kitchens with his plant, and also possibly an entire cake because the house elves insisted.
Step one- check!
The second step?
Hang it up high.
In all the stories he'd heard, the mistletoe had been hung above doors, so he contemplated the perfect door to hang his plant.
Eventually, he settled for the entrance to the dungeons.
Why?
It seemed easy enough to get both of them in that spot at the same time, during a time that might be at least a little more private. He didn't want to embarrass anyone, after all.
So, with Remus grudgingly standing lookout a ways away, he levitated the greenery above the entrance and affixed it with a simple charm, admiring his work for a minute before running back to his friend.
Step two- check!
The third step?
Get both of them there at the same time.
It was odd, he realized. For a group of people who talked a lot about mistletoe, a lot of students didn't seem to want to actually follow through with the tradition. Even pairs who were obvious couples walked under his trap without kissing, and the only reaction he observed were some confused glances and pointing.
Oh, well. James Potter was nothing if not a trendsetter.
So, the next day, he mustered up all of his courage and walked up to his target.
"Can I walk you to Potions, Reg?" He asked in his most gentlemanly voice.
"Bugger off, Potter," the shorter boy said through a grimace, barely looking up from his breakfast.
But James was nothing if not persistent. "C'mon, Reggie! Please?"
Regulus Black looked up, considering. James caught an endeared look in his eye. Ha!
"Fine. I have to go early to work on an essay. Let's go now," Regulus relented.
James couldn't stop himself from beaming as he grabbed Regulus's bag before he could protest, carrying both bags on his left shoulder so he could grab Regulus's hand in his right one. Regulus gave him a look, but didn't pull away.
Step three- check!
His heart positively hammered as they approached the entrance to the dungeons. Would Regulus know what mistletoe was? Would he see it? Would he want to kiss James? They'd spent a lot of time together lately, flirting and playing Quidditch, but perhaps it was just as friends? Regulus was difficult to read...
But, thankfully, Regulus stopped as they reached the door, pointing above them. "Have you seen that?" he asked, a smirk on his face.
Could it be true? Was Regulus hinting that he wanted to kiss him, too?
"Yes," James breathed. "It's-"
"Lettuce. So odd. I wonder who did it," Regulus said while chuckling a bit.
James realized he'd have to explain. "It's a holiday thing, Reg. Mistletoe."
Regulus gave him a long look. For the first time, James began to feel like maybe he was missing something. "Potter, not all plants are used as mistletoe. Mistletoe is a specific type of plant. It has little green leaves and white berries."
Oh, no.
He could feel himself turning red.
Oh, fuck.
"Potter? Did...did you hang the lettuce?" Regulus asked, his expression unreadable.
"No," he muttered, refusing to meet Regulus's eyes.
"Potter. Why did you hang the lettuce?" Regulus pushed, his voice almost gentle, now.
"Erm..." James sighed. 'I wanted to kiss you' sounded so desperate to say out loud.
"You thought it was mistletoe?" Regulus asked.
James squeezed his eyes shut, feeling unbelievably foolish. He nodded.
"And you hung it? And...led me to it? Why? As a joke?" Hurt. Regulus's voice sounded cold and hurt now.
James opened his eyes quickly. "What? No, I-"
"You thought it'd be funny to kiss me, to mess with me like that?" Regulus continued, looking angry, now. "Or were you trying to catch Evans as she went to her class, but you decided to settle for me, instead?"
This was not 'Step Four- Kiss Regulus'. This was not going right. And James was panicking. And sometimes James said stupid things when he panicked. "No, Reg! I just wanted an excuse to kiss you, because that's all I've been thinking about for weeks!"
Regulus stopped ranting then, and stared. "That's not true, Potter."
"Well it bloody well is! Ask Remus, or your brother, or Peter! You're really all I can talk about! It's pathetic!" James said, throwing his hands up in the air. "And I finally came up with such a good plan, and now I buggered it all up!"
But Regulus just took out his wand, and for a moment James thought maybe he was going to hex him, but he pointed it up toward the browning, wilted piece of lettuce on the ceiling.
Suddenly, it began to transform, to a sprig of small leaves and berries, a red bow tying it all together.
"That is mistletoe," Regulus murmured softly, yanking on James's collar and pulling their lips together.
Step four- check!
Hope you guys enjoyed! Click here to leave comments/kudos!

@jegulus-microfic june 7, welcome, wc: 460
To put it simply, Regulus was absolutely exhausted. If a packed 5-hour-long flight wasn’t enough of a headache-causing experience, the added 2-hour-long wait at the airport for baggage claim was more than enough.
And all that, after an endless meeting at work.
So, no better way to end this awful day, than to cover himself with those comfortable blankets he has at home and cuddle with James.
He’s missed James more than anything. And it was terrible that he couldn’t pick him up from the airport, but he didn’t mind that much because he’d still see him after a short taxi ride. During which he was almost sleeping.
And now, after being away for two whole months, he’s back, and as soon as he turns the key and gets in the house he’s missed so unbelievably much, he calls for James, hoping that he’d be back from work to welcome him. And, thankfully, he is.
“Regulus!” James runs down the stairs, almost tripping over and falling, and heads straight for Regulus who’s standing by the front door. And once James’ arms are around him again, he feels the happiest.
“Hi, darling,” he says, all rosy cheeks and bright smiles. “I missed you.”
“Ugh, I missed you. So much.” James pulls back a bit just to connect their lips. And Regulus thinks just how much he’s missed kissing those lips. “Don’t ever leave for so long again, I won’t bear it.”
“I’ll do my best. No promises, though. Work’s like that.”
“Work’s awful. I’m way better, choose me.”
Regulus rolls his eyes. “Okay, next time they tell me to go somewhere for work, I’ll tell them I can’t because my husband is too dependent on me.”
James nods quickly. “That’s exactly what you should tell them,” he jokes, and Regulus huffs a laugh. He wraps his arms around Regulus, pulling him back close to him, and starts caressing his back.
Regulus hums pleasantly, finding the comfort he was thinking about just earlier. “I am so, so tired and, I’m not gonna lie, I was worried you’d throw, like, a welcome back party. I’m so glad you didn’t.”
He doesn’t miss the way James’ hands freeze on his back.
“So… you don’t want a welcome back party…?” James asks, his voice ridiculously pitched up.
Regulus blinks once and twice, pulls back and blankly looks at James. “There’s a party, right?”
James chuckles awkwardly, rubs the back of his neck. “No, no, of course not...” He looks around. “Just don’t go in the living room, and give me ten to fifteen minutes to uh… take care of some things. Then I’ll be right with you.”
Regulus shakes his head lightly and his lips form a fond smile. “Of course there is a party.”

@jegulus-microfic | march 7 phase | words: 644
tw: transphobia, anger issues, swearing
When Walburga finally passed away, Regulus and Sirius took their partners to check if there was anything worth keeping in the house they grew up in.
As they entered a shiver went down Regulus spine, all the horrible memories coming back. He wanted to leave as soon as he saw the family portrait hung on the wall across from the entrance. There were four figures painted on it - Walburga, who looked terrifying even in a painting that was supposed to warm her image; next to her stood Orion, haughty, with a mustache covering his mouth; they both had one of their hands each on the shoulders of their children - Sirius and someone Regulus never was.
"Love, you're shaking," a soft whisper came to his ear as a hand reached his back, squeezing lightly in a comforting gesture, calming him down a little. "They're gone, nothing's going to happen, I've got you," James murmured into his hair, kissing him there a moment later.
Feeling a bit less stressed Regulus nodded and smiled at his fiancé, taking his hand. James smiled, too, squeezing the hand lightly.
As they went through the Grimmauld Place lots of expensive, mostly useless shit was found - some swords, ancient piano, silverware made of real silver, Dior plates (why? just… why?) and paintings by famous painters such as Rubens, Monet and some others. Reaching second floor Regulus immediately went to scratch off the name tag on his old room’s door.
"This bitch! She could have just left it, but of course not! It would be too much of a disgrace to the family if anyone noticed!" he yelled, as the tag fell to the floor piece by piece. Regulus started banging on the door, angry to the point that tears of frustration started streaming down his face. "You could’ve just tear it off and not put another one on, but of course you’re too envious for that! I hate you! Do you hear me?! I!" bang. "Hate!" bang. "YOU!" Regulus may have acted a bit psychotically, but who wouldn't in his situation? His own mother was being transphobic towards him even from her grave.
When he calmed down few minutes later, James approached him, kneeling by his side and whipping the tears away. "Better?" he asked Regulus and he responded with a small nod. At that James pulled Reg to his chest and held tight, whispering sweet nothings to him.
***
A few hours after Regulus' breakdown, they had packed up all of their old clothes (most of them were to be sold and the rest would be given to their future children), grabbed some of the nicer things their parents had left behind, and sat in the living room with tea and an old photo album. As they flipped through the pages there were comments like ‘Don’t you have any normal pictures? Like, from a bathtub or a playground or something?’, provided mostly by Remus.
When Regulus turned another page James gasped and Remus whistled. In the photo, he sat at the Christmas Eve table with freshly cut short hair, wearing a black suit and matching tie.
"Your inner Sirius awoke that year, huh?" his brother-in-law asked with amusement.
"Oh, his inner Sirius awoke to the point he even wore a binder to piss them off further. And I, as an ally, acted like I didn’t know who they were referring to anytime someone used his deadname. Mother told me to stop then, remember Reggie?" his brother asked, turning to him. "She said that it was just a phase" they both laughed at the memory. Yes, Walburga almost had a stroke as Regulus walked down the stairs in one of Sirius’ old suits and a new haircut. She was so stunned she forgot to punish him after everyone went home.
"Well," Reg said, smirking smugly "I guess it wasn’t just a phase, mother."

happy birthday, james potter
jegulus microfic | 861 words | age gap + parenting au
═══════☆═══════
Regulus has never baked a cake before, and he’s not sure why he believed today would be the perfect day to learn. There are already a handful of failed attempts scattered across James’ kitchen. Some of them are…edible, but none of them are perfect. James deserves perfect on his birthday.
Technically Regulus isn’t supposed to be here at all. He’s supposed to be in class while James is at the museum with Harry, but taking one day off to treat his boyfriend on his birthday can’t do any harm, right? The countertops are almost entirely hidden by spilled ingredients and empty packages, but he finds space and perches on the counter with a mixing bowl in his arms.
The last batter was too thick, and this one seems suspiciously too runny, but he has no idea how to fix it. He even went as far as to call Barty and Evan, then Remus and Sirius—all of whom were entirely unhelpful. And now James’ kitchen is a mess.
Before he has a chance to put the next batch of cake mix in the oven, or even think about cleaning up, he hears the front door open and freezes in place. James is home.
Harry makes it to the kitchen first, walking right up to where Regulus is sitting and staring up with that wide bug-eyed stare Regulus has gotten so used to in the past year.
“Hi, buddy. Where’s your dad?” he asks, climbing off the countertop and swapping the mixing bowl out to pick Harry up instead. When Harry points over Regulus’ shoulder, he freezes up all over again.
“Please don’t be mad,” he begs softly, not daring to turn around to face James. His boyfriend has never been angry with him before, but there’s a first time for everything, right? And knowing Regulus’ luck, he has probably ruined James’ entire birthday.
James doesn’t say anything, but only a moment passes before Regulus feels familiar arms around his waist and a comforting chest against his back. He leans into James’ embrace instantly, struggling to fight off a smile as Harry wraps his arms around him too. This is his favourite place to be—in the arms of his family.
“Why would I be mad, baby?” James mumbles, pressing a kiss to the top of Regulus’ head. “You made cake!”
“I made a mess,” Regulus points out with a soft laugh.
One of the agreements within their relationship is that Regulus isn’t allowed to spend money on James until he finishes his degree and goes back to working full-time. It’s done wonders for the health of the bond between them, but Regulus still wanted to offer James something as a gift.
“Harry has made worse messes with much less time. We can clean it up together,” James insists. He lets go of Regulus as Regulus lowers Harry to the ground, and the two of them—three, if he counts Harry “helping”—make quick work of the baking disaster.
═══════☆═══════
Hours pass, all of which Regulus spends no more than a few feet away from James. They decorate the house together for his birthday, drop Harry off with his grandparents for the night, and kill the last bit of time before the party breaking in James’ new mattress.
“You really are getting old, you know.” Regulus has taken to straddling James’ lap on the living room couch despite the dozens of party guests around them. No matter how popular James is, Regulus knows he will always be at the centre of his boyfriend’s world. It’s as if the rest of the party doesn’t exist.
“I’m still a couple of years off forty! I’ve still got some youth left in me,” James argues. “And in fifteen years, when you’re this age, you’ll be saying the exact same thing.”
With laughter spilling from his lips, Regulus drops his head onto James’ chest, allowing James to wrap his arms around him in a warm embrace. If anyone is judging them for the blatant PDA, they don’t say anything
“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give you anything for your birthday,” he mumbles against James’ neck, eyes fluttering shut as James’ fingers trail up and down the length of his spine.
They had to throw out all of the cakes Regulus attempted to make, and ended up buying one at the nearest supermarket instead. James had insisted that it’s the thought that counts, but Regulus still wishes he had done more.
“There is…one thing you could give me, but it’s entirely up to you.” Regulus lifts his head again, gazing at James with intense curiosity. “Move in with me.”
A moment passes between them, and Regulus is certain his heart beats twice as fast as it ever has before.
“You really mean it?” he whispers, voice laced with trembling disbelief.
“I really mean it,” James promises.
Another moment passes. And then; “Absolutely. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
One of James’ hands comes up to hold the back of Regulus’ head, and then they’re kissing. It must look as intense as it feels, because someone whistles and a few people laugh just before they pull apart, breathless.
“Happy birthday, Jamie.”
this microfic is based on james and regulus in be good to me (i beg of him) because i missed them <3

Hi Metalo!
Have you ever thought about potential patronus animals for the Black family? If so, what kind of animals would fit in your opinion?
As always, your questions make me think a lot. This one is sooo difficult!
Ok, so this might be unpopular but I feel Bella would be a lioness. She is a figure of strength, is territorial, she works hard, perfect hunter that takes down prey twice her size, devoted mother (to her child or to her little sisters) teaching her youngster skills they need to survive, and protecting them so fiercely.
Narcissa is a spider queen. Spiders also have *remarkable* maternal instincts, more developed than in many other species of the earth. Spiders can be aggressive, but also quite peaceful, depending on circumstances. She weaves a beautiful home, but that can also turn into a trap. She isn't showy in her strength, prefers to lure her target into her web, where she can deliver that final, venomous bite to an unsuspecting target that dared trespass against her.
Andromeda is a fox. Cunning, agile and highly adaptable. not overly aggressive, preferring to live their life in stealth mode.
Regulus is a coyote. Almost like a dog, only much shier than a dog, and more cautious. However, when push comes to shove, coyotes are quite territorial and willing to die for what is theirs.
Sirius, obviously, is perfect as a dog. (And I also used him to give Regulus and Andromeda similar patronus forms, from a canidae family, since they are related and one would assume they share traits.)
Ok, so these are the only ones we know from canon, or at least we know something about them that allowed me to try to guess their patronus.
Now, for my head-canon about the rest of the Black family and their personalities, which I depict in 'It runs'.
Waburga is a polar bear. Polar bears are aways striving for the highest possible standards. They are fierce, and they are obsessed with their children. They protect their cubs with their lives, but they also expect their cubs to behave and fall in line. It's a tough life out there, so a polar bear mother needs to teach her youngsters to be ruthless. They love their children, but can be a bit rough in handling them. They can also be very gentle with their cubs, when there's no 'emergency' situation going on. Polar bears are strong, fearless but so lonely. Something about Walburga ending up alone, defined by solitude in her last years, reminds me of a polar bear wandering alone in a harsh, cold environment (Grimmauld, cough cough). Polar bear mamas are also one of the few animals species that become depressed, distressed and vulnerable when they lose a child. They can even stop hunting after such a loss, and waste away.
Orion in 'It runs' is an eagle. Fearless, confident, quite arrogant. Extremely territorial. An eagle will never surrender, regardless of the size or strength of its opponent. It will do anything to regain its territory and it will always defend its nest. Eagles are quite paternal, like most raptors. An eagle father will bring sticks to the nest, and will bring food to the young. When babies fall from nest, a father often dives to catch them on their wings. However, an eagle father also picks favourites, and there's a food hierarchy going on, often choosing to give more food to one baby, encouraging sibling rivalry, which is apparently important for the development of a raptor. Eagle males do form a pair bond with a single female, however, if the female isn't available in mating season, he will find another one.
Cygnus would be a tiger. Not the most paternal, but a fierce predator. They're also one of the few brave enough to get into fights with bears. Tigers and dogs are amongst the few that will look at a bear and go 'yeah, I can take that' (hence why Cygnus and Sirius are the only ones mad enough to get into fights with Walburga). Also, he's a tiger mostly because I want Bella to take after her dad, the only big cats in their immediate family.
Alphard is a lone wolf, to keep up with many of the Blacks having canine counterparts. He's majestic, he's fierce, too, he loves a pack, but at some point he got into too many fights with the leaders of his pack and took off on his own, though at night sometimes he cries to the moon, missing them.
Arcturus is a hawk. Similar to his son, but a tad less fierce. Just a tad.
Sirius the old was a sphinx. He's a special badass, and the world sees him as this almost mythological creature. He has the body of a land apex predator, like many of his descendants (lion, like Bella), but he also has the wings of an eagle (like Orion). He's enigmatic, merciless, and has a gaze that will see straight into your soul. He knows everything that goes on, everywhere. A sphinx represents royalty and sacred status, which is how he views his family (and himself).
This was so much fun. I really like how they turned out, and I love that in this family of vertebrates, Narcissa is the only invertebrate (since she's always the outliner with her blonde hair). She's no less lethal, no less impressive, but she's a tad different from the rest.
I hope you liked it! ❤️

“Alright kiddos,” My dad groans as he gets up from his spot on the couch, “I’m gonna go to bed. You can stay up a bit longer but, please, don’t cause harm to anything, okay?”
“Yeah, James, no more fires,” I quip, jokingly scowling at my older brother.
“That was one time!” James cries, obviously offended.
“I’m talking to you too, Y/n Potter, you both bring chaos into this house and I’m not looking to put out another fire at 3 in the morning,” Dad replies as he exits the room.
I turn to James and then look towards the pile of board and card games that we’ve collected over the years, “Uno?” I ask.
“Obviously,” He answers with a smirk.
---
“Oh! You bitch!” James yells as I set down a wild draw four, forcing him to add 4 more cards to his 18 others.
knock... knock... knock... A rap sounds from the front door making both of our heads turn, who could be here at this time of night?
“I’ll get it,” James sighs as he stands up. “Grab your wand in case it’s a murderer and I need backup.”
I roll my eyes at his dramatics, but grab my wand from the side table nonetheless. These days you never know who could be lurking around the corner.
In the entryway, the front door creaks, and I hear James exclaim with a strange amount of abhorrence in his tone, “What are you doing here?”
The voice that follows makes me stand up and I have to physically restrain myself from running straight toward it. I, instead, creep to the door overhearing every strained word, “I just need to see Y/n. I have to see her, please.”
I turn the corner to see Regulus Black standing on the covered porch with tear-stained cheeks and dark circles under his eyes. He looks at me and his eyes light up, like a child receiving candy. He steps forward but stops himself from going any further obviously contemplating whether or not he should step in.
“Regulus? Are you okay?” I ask, rushing over to him and grabbing his face with both hands, searching for any sign of harm. He sets his hand onto one of my own and leans his forehead against mine. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, seemingly relieved.
“I’m so sorry, I just can’t do this without you,” He says as his voice quivers.
“It’s alright, lovey,” I reply, moving the hand he isn’t holding to run my fingers through his curls. “You can always come to me and I will be there, I promise.”
I lean in and kiss his lips savoring every second of the closeness. When we separate, I move to pull him into a long hug, his body is tense but melts into mine. It may be cliche but it feels like it’s only the two of us at this moment, unfortunately, it is not. James clears his throat and inquires, “What the fuck is happening?”
I separate from Regulus and step in front of him watching James shut the front door and walk back to the living room. We follow and observe him as he drops himself onto the couch and runs a hand over his face. James utters, “Well, are either of you going to explain, or do I just have to assume?”
“Well,” I begin, nervous for James’s reaction, “Regulus and I have been- well… dating for the past year or so.”
James opens his mouth as I try to speak but immediately closes it again, he repeats the cycle until he states, “Okay. Why are you here then, Black?”
“I, uh, it got really bad at Grimmauld Place earlier,” Regulus replies, looking down towards his feet. “I didn’t mean to intrude.”
“Where’s Sirius?” James asks quickly, more worried about his best friend than anyone else.
“I don’t know, he didn’t come home last night, he only left behind a note that said, ‘later bitches’. They didn’t believe me when I told them I don’t know where he went,” Regulus answers grimly, I grab his hand when I notice his eyes start watering.
“Alright, don’t think we’re done talking about this, because we’re not, but I’m gonna go look for Sirius. Get him some tea or something and don’t be gross, I’ll be back soon,” James sighs and runs to the fireplace. Regulus and I observe as he grabs a handful of Floo powder and steps in. He slams the powder down and exclaims an address then immediately disappears leaving behind only ash and green flames.
I sit down on the couch with Regulus and bring him into a big bear hug, knowing he didn’t like initiating affection but needed some for the moment. He buries his face into my neck and breathes in deeply. I feel hot tears slowly drip onto my skin but I do nothing but move a hand up to his curls.
“Thank you for being here,” Regulus mumbles.
I respond, “I will always be here, my love for you is eternal.”
He leans back looking me in the eyes, “I will forever love you, Y/n. You are the stars in my galaxy.” I look into his red-rimmed, glossy eyes smiling at him. He chuckles, “If he wasn’t so worried about Sirius, James would be kicking my ass right about now.”
“I hope that he would keep the ass-kicking to a minimum,” I laugh, knowing the worst James would do is ignore me for a few hours until giving up because he got bored. “Besides I’d save you from him.”
“Would you now?” He entertains, life coming back to his features as we talk.
“Of course, I love you too much to let you be ended by, James, of all people.”
“Merlin, what are we going to do?” Regulus groans, “By the time they get here Sirius and James will have decided whether they will speak to us ever again.”
“We will do what we’ve been doing this entire time, this is none of their business,” I quip, “Besides, you’re staying here from now on whether they like it or not.”
“Really?” He questions, “Can I?”
“Of course, I’ll talk to my mom and we’ll sort it out. You will never have to go back there again,” I reply, strength filling my words.
I don’t ask what happened that night, but based on the past I can infer what he’s been through. If I can help it, I will never Regulus go through that again.
I never did.
