#reading One Piece for the first time

Don't worry about posting "One Piece" spoilers. I'm reading the fucking thing and couldn't tell you what constitutes a spoiler. Every post about this fucking thing is "Can't believe that Blergleburb was the Rompledink!" Or some variation of: "Atticus Giddyfuck is revealing the power level of his Schlong-Combat! HYPE!" And I'll never understand it. You kids seem to be having fun though. For my part I've just met the reindeer and nobody's eaten him.

double page spread for one of my favorite luzo fics of all time, poly philtatos (the most beloved by far) by my good friend - @swordsmans!

I knew I wanted to do a double page spread the second I finished this fic and I drafted abt a dozen ideas before landing on what would ultimately become this. There were so many snippets and moments I wanted to illustrate but I ended up doing more of an abstracted version of the fic as opposed to 1:1 drawings of scenes 

funnily enough while the fic itself is told in zoros pov this spread is framed mostly through luffy’s eyes - his tears literally frame comp for their reunion, the moment he loses zoro, and the centerpiece of the first page which is this weird abstraction of him on the beach seeing zoros corpse-not-a-corpse in the waves just beyond his reach. 

gyro put the crane wives’ never love an anchor on the playlist for this fic which i heavily used as inspiration in picking ornamental things for the spread (the anchor, the fleet of ships by luffy, and the nautical rope splitting the second page). also just like. overall really heartbreaking lyrics guys 

there are smaller elements throughout the spread that are 1:1 references though (all i will say for these is if you know, you know hehe) i wish i had more time to do a lengthier piece for fanart for this fic bc it's one of the few luzo fics that have been rattling around in my brain forever now - once again please please please read poly philtatos if you haven't. gyro is a masterful writer and they deserve all the love! ok byeee

Reading "One Piece for the first time: Part 13"

A brief one just to show you that I am still alive. Appreciate the return of "Captain Smoker" and his 2 fat blunts, as the only competent villain we've had so far, using an actual brain to confront the morons of this "Baroque Works" on his ship Odd that they all communicate through snail telephones (I choose to believe it's a pun about "Snail Mail" even though I know that it's simply a case of the author putting down whatever the 10 foot zebra god made of bees only he can see told him to). The giants were fun, I'll miss them. The Giga Chad having to explain how illness works to the bumbling fuckhead he has for a Captain got a chuckle out of me, I'll give it that. The Himbo wants to get stronger. If it means he gets to kill Cringe Lord Dracule Mihawk in a single panel, I'll take removing him from the manga for 800 chapters. If you will not grant me this wish, Oda, then to HELL with you!

Guys, quick pop quiz: You see a hovering clown on the ocean after barely surviving a typhoon. Do you: A. Run for your fucking life? B. Unload the cannon at it whilst moving backwards? C. APPROACH IT AND BE SURPRISED IT IS AN AMBUSH?! Appreciate an actual pirate here though: trying to nick their ship, plunder their shit, you know, PIRATE stuff. Law novel sequel's title will be "Novel Law: The Hour of Kikoku" (Kikoku no Toki).

... or 'The Time of Kikoku', 'Hour' just sounded catchier.

It's going to be a multichaptered spinoff, the upcoming magazine doesn't conclude the story. Here's an update from the official website.

Seems it's the story behind Law acquiring his sword? Sakagami Shusei (Novel Law author) has shared some initial thoughts (the first tweet was before the title revelation).

Once again, Oda's involvement is expected to be minimum. It's almost entirely written by Sakagami Shusei, like its prequel.

Let's hope we finally get to know the names of the other members of the Heart pirates!

Nishimura Kinu's sketch seems to hint at Law's interaction with Hakugan, maybe we'll get to know how he got recruited.

I know that the running theory right now is Shank's twin, but honestly, I'm inclined to believe it's a clone. Maybe a special one commissed for Garling to replace the child he lost, who knows. But the clone thing seems to be a running theme.

they cloned the seven warlords (who's even to say that the seraphim are the first tries) they cloned Stussy from the Rocks Pirate (the most regular-sized human of the bunch so maybe there's like a limit and Shanks is the most regular-sized yonko.) they clone devil fruits. It definitely feels like a setup for something much bigger and a cloned shanks is very much in that realm

like that really is the only explanation I have for why the "twin' looks so much like shanks. I mean it's one thing to be two siblings that look exactly alike (which isn't out of the norm for Oda) but to wear their hair virtually the same and have the same scraggly mustache even though he would have been raised as a proper celestial dragon with all the "propriety" and better fashion sense that entails and just generally everything (we've already been shown that either the clones are drawn to the same look as their original or it is forced upon them to make them resemble as close as possible.)

I don't know the idea that the world government would clone Shanks because why the hell not isn't so far-fetched honestly it might even be a clone of garling himself to explain the age.

Shanks holds a lot of power in the world a lot of people are known to trust him and he holds particular sway with the giants something that would be very valuable to the world government. And of garling's his dad it'd be pretty easy to get access to that DNA.

but yeah I'm interested to see how this plays out.
