The existence of Ratio's vertical pupils indicate that his species evolved as potentially apex ambush predators, while Aventurine's more diamond-shaped pupils suggest Avgins occupied a middle rung of the Sigonian food chain, with divided need to both track prey and maintain wide-angle vision to identify predatory threats. In this essay, I will--
#honkai star rail#aventurine#dr. ratio#2am shitpost coming atcha#but I do actually think one of the funniest things about Honkai Star Rail#that just never gets acknowledged#is that just about everyone comes from a different planet#with a long enough history that even if they were all initially human#they would have successfully genetically diversified into separate species#like every ship in Star Rail is an inter-species romance#and actually sitting down to think about the genetic science#behind some of these character design choices#makes it all ridiculously funny#catch Dr. Ratio back on his home planet lurking in the bushes#using that insane depth perception to slingshot his dinner into submission#😂😂😂#everything is funny if you apply too much logic to it

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I dont think selective abortions based on genetic traits of the fetus count as eugenics. And I say this as someone who has several traits that could be targeted for in vitro. I think when people say that theyre misunderstanding what is wrong with eugenics in the first place. The problem with eugenics is not that it causes less babies to be born. The problem is that it denies babies to people who want them. Its a reproductive autonomy issue. You cannot counter eugenics by forcing people to carry babies they do not want. You can provide education and support to ensure there arent outside social forces impacting that decision, but at the end of the day not every parent is willing to care for every child and it is their right to abort that pregnancy because it is their body. End of story.
#sometimes i feel like people think theres some divinely ordained ratio of genetic disorders in the population#and messing with it at all is whats wrong#thats just the christian 'its gods will that you got pregnant so you cant have an abortion' thing in woke clothing

Hello! I just saw your cat colors master post and you seem very knowledgeable on the subject so I have a question. I was reading about the O/o gene for a little school assignment to talk about X linked genes. And since male cats only need one X to show orange color or black color. Wouldn't there be more orange and black male cats than female cats? I always hear people say an orange cat is more likely to be male than female but I never hear people say a black cat is more likely to be male than female. Is there some way for cats to be black that isn't linked to the O gene that changes the ratio of female to male black cats? Or are people just not noticing the ratio in black cats vs orange cats for some reason?
Yes, you're right, there are more black males than females, because the tortoiseshells are diminishing the numbers of both the black and and the red females.
Let's calculate the ratios; let p be the frequency of the black and q is the red allele. (This is also their probability: if you choose a random allele from the cat population, it'll be black with the chance of p and red with the chance of q.)
Black male: p/2 (1/2 of all cats are males and with p chance a male cat has the black allele therefore he is black)
Red male: q/2 (similarly)
Black female: p²/2 (both of her alleles need to be black, so we need to choose twice)
Red female: q²/2 (similarly)
Tortoiseshell female: pq (we need to choose a black and a red allele, and we can do it in two orders, so this is actually the more simple form of 2pq/2)
Let's check: p/2 + q/2 + p²/2 + q²/2 + pq = (p+q+p²+q²+2pq)/2 = 1, because p+q=1 and p²+2pq+q²=(p+q)²=1²=1. Good.
What could be the frequency of the red allele? I don't know, but for the sake of simplicity let's say it 0.2 (so every fifth male cat is orange).
Black male: p/2=0.8/2=0.4 (40%)
Red male: q/2=0.2/2=0.1 (10%)
Black female: p²/2=0.8²/2=0.64/2=0.32 (32%)
Red female: q²/2=0.2²/2=0.04/2=0.02 (2%)
Tortoiseshell female: pq=0.8*0.2=0.16 (16%)
So this means the male:female ratio in red cats is 10:2=5:1 (for every five males there's one female), while in blacks 40:32=5:4 (for every five male there're four females).
You see why it's much easier to notice.
#if we stay with p and q#reds: m:f=q:q^2=1/q#blacks: m:f=p:p²=1/p#the smaller q is the bigger is the difference in the ratios#if p=q=0.5 then the difference is gone#ask and answer#cat genetics#orange

I may have made a mistake when making Ellie/Wendy...
I seem to have watched Multiverse of Madness during a critical stage in her development, because every time I try writing something where the not-twins are older (like, teen to young adult) Wendy ends up with a certain Scarlet Witch-y vibe to her.
#timkon clone baby#this results largely from the fact that i'm also playing around with genetic inheritance#because while people are genetically speaking half-mom and half-dad#the ratio of which genes are expressed is not always so clean-cut#meaning i can have wendy inherit virtually none of the kryptonian skill set#despite being genetically just as kryptonian as danny#who inherits pretty much the whole lot#while simultaneously picking up a previously unexpressed gene set from tim's side of the family

"A large clinical trial in South Africa and Uganda has shown that a twice-yearly injection of a new pre-exposure prophylaxis drug gives young women total protection from HIV infection.
The trial tested whether the six-month injection of lenacapavir would provide better protection against HIV infection than two other drugs, both daily pills. All three medications are pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) drugs.
Physician-scientist Linda-Gail Bekker, principal investigator for the South African part of the study, tells Nadine Dreyer what makes this breakthough so significant and what to expect next.
Tell us about the trial and what it set out to achieve
The Purpose 1 trial with 5,000 participants took place at three sites in Uganda and 25 sites in South Africa to test the efficacy of lenacapavir and two other drugs.
Lenacapavir (Len LA) is a fusion capside inhibitor. It interferes with the HIV capsid, a protein shell that protects HIV’s genetic material and enzymes needed for replication. It is administered just under the skin, once every six months.
The randomised controlled trial, sponsored by the drug developers Gilead Sciences, tested several things.
The first was whether a six-monthly injection of lenacapavir was safe and would provide better protection against HIV infection as PrEP for women between the ages of 16 and 25 years than Truvada F/TDF, a daily PrEP pill in wide use that has been available for more than a decade.
Secondly, the trial also tested whether Descovy F/TAF, a newer daily pill, was as effective as F/TDF...
The trial had three arms. Young women were randomly assigned to one of the arms in a 2:2:1 ratio (Len LA: F/TAF oral: F/TDF oral) in a double blinded fashion. This means neither the participants nor the researchers knew which treatment participants were receiving until the clinical trial was over.
In eastern and southern Africa, young women are the population who bear the brunt of new HIV infections. They also find a daily PrEP regimen challenging to maintain, for a number of social and structural reasons.
During the randomised phase of the trial none of the 2,134 women who received lenacapavir contracted HIV. There was 100 percent efficiency.
By comparison, 16 of the 1,068 women (or 1.5%) who took Truvada (F/TDF) and 39 of 2,136 (1.8%) who received Descovy (F/TAF) contracted the HIV virus...
What is the significance of these trials?
This breakthrough gives great hope that we have a proven, highly effective prevention tool to protect people from HIV.
There were 1.3 million new HIV infections globally in the past year. Although that’s fewer than the 2 million infections seen in 2010, it is clear that at this rate we are not going to meet the HIV new infection target that UNAIDS set for 2025 (fewer than 500,000 globally) or potentially even the goal to end Aids by 2030...
For young people, the daily decision to take a pill or use a condom or take a pill at the time of sexual intercourse can be very challenging.
HIV scientists and activists hope that young people may find that having to make this “prevention decision” only twice a year may reduce unpredictability and barriers.
For a young woman who struggles to get to an appointment at a clinic in a town or who can’t keep pills without facing stigma or violence, an injection just twice a year is the option that could keep her free of HIV.
What happens now?
The plan is that the Purpose 1 trial will go on but now in an “open label” phase. This means that study participants will be “unblinded”: they will be told whether they have been in the “injectable” or oral TDF or oral TAF groups.
They will be offered the choice of PrEP they would prefer as the trial continues.
A sister trial is also under way: Purpose 2 is being conducted in a number of regions including some sites in Africa among cisgender men, and transgender and nonbinary people who have sex with men.
It’s important to conduct trials among different groups because we have seen differences in effectiveness. Whether the sex is anal or vaginal is important and may have an impact on effectiveness.
How long until the drug is rolled out?
We have read in a Gilead Sciences press statement that within the next couple of months [from July 2024] the company will submit the dossier with all the results to a number of country regulators, particularly the Ugandan and South African regulators.
The World Health Organization will also review the data and may issue recommendations.
We hope then that this new drug will be adopted into WHO and country guidelines.
We also hope we may begin to see the drug being tested in more studies to understand better how to incorporate it into real world settings.
Price is a critical factor to ensure access and distribution in the public sector where it is badly needed.
Gilead Sciences has said it will offer licences to companies that make generic drugs, which is another critical way to get prices down.
In an ideal world, governments will be able to purchase this affordably and it will be offered to all who want it and need protection against HIV."

HEY big lobster news.
Idk if any of you remember me answering questions last year about lobster genes and how I wasn’t sure if a fancy-colored lobster would produce normal or colorful babies, but we might end up having an answer to that soon.
Because! Chipotle the calico (who we thought was a male) is a girl and she has eggs.
Will her babies be normal or calico? What will the ratio be? Will there be other genetic mutations to the baby’s color (like blue or yellow)? I have no idea but I hope we will find out.

hello, science entusiast here! i love your merventurine au and would like to give you some Fun Facts regarding the mammal vs. fish discussion.
taxonomy (the grouping of organisms) is complicated and there are several ways to do it, so i am agreeing with you in that there is no one correct answer.
for example, there exists the 'cladistics' approach to taxonomy, and according to it, fish as a category does not exist at all. this is because cladistics only makes groups by common ancestors based on genetics, and there is not a single common ancestor of all fish.
so, surprisirngly the lungs and live birth are not what causes problems in categorization. there are fishes who have lungs and mammals who lays eggs. biology is a bitch like that.
the most common definition by evolutionary taxonomy (which is an approach that recognizes apparent degree of similarity as well as genetics) for fishes is that they 1) are non-tetrapods, 2) have a backbone of some kind, 3) has gills throughout life, and 4) have limbs in the shape of fins.
the first definition is by far the trickiest part. merfolk clearly doesn't look like they have four limbs, so if you are going based on phenetics (apparent similarity without considering ancestry) then merfolk is definitely fish. but to somewhat appease the cladists, (because i am sure dr. Ratio is not one to stick to just one approach to taxonomy): if you, as the creator of the au, think that merfolk ancestors are fish who developed human traits, then they are non-tetrapods, and therefore, fish. if you think that merfolk are humans who then evolved to be fish-y, then they could be classified as mammals.
the other set of concerns is that merfolk always have human fingers despite having fins, but this is also one of those things you'd want to define from ancestry.
to top it all off, some writers of merfolk stories write that they lose their gills when they go above water, so in that case it depends on where they are at time of observation.
tl;dr, the answer is that, as the creator of the au, i'd say you get to decide whether or not he is fish.
this is so cool holy shit

WOF tribe wingspan concepts:
Read below cut for close-ups of the individual wings + the thought process / headcannons behind the design choices: 👇
Skywing: Huge wingspan to body ratio, meant for catching air current with ease, and soaring great distances, even days on end without rest. It can also assist in billowing fire, mainly from the sheer power & air that flapping their wings can generate. Inspired by seabirds such as gulls & albatrosses, all equipped for traveling overseas.
Mudwing: Rounded wings to assist in parachuting and carrying more wind under a Mudwing’s muscled & bulky form. Striped patterns underneath wingspan resemble swamp reeds and algae when hunting. Given Mudwings are ambush predators, their wings are inspired by birds such as owls, which despite tending to be larger birds of prey, are very silent predators.
Sandwings: Coiled wingtips which mimic their barbed tails in flight. They have wavy line like patterns underneath, meant to resemble shifting dunelines or freckled sand spots. Sandwings have the largest wingspan next to Skywings, due to their requirement of flying long distances across the desert. Primarily inspired by vultures, and carrion birds meant to soar & circle.
Seawings: Fin-like Wings better equipped for swimming than flying. These wingspans are Manta Ray inspired, with dolphin-like tail ends connecting all the way to the wing tips. Depending on genetics, some seawings are born with more shark-like tail ends.
Nightwing: Sleek & recognizable wing shape, commonly associated with all dragon imagery. Their wingspan is inspired by bats, making them equipped for gripping craggy rock ledges, and blending into the night, since they can easily furl around their body.
Rainwing: Decorative and frilled wings. Inspired by Macaw/frilled lizards. Their wings mimic the same frills on their necks & tailbase, and can come in a variety of colors & patterns underneath. Stripes, spots, & swirls are all common sights. These wings are meant more for gliding, but also serve simultaneously as threat and courtship displays with the right whorls of color.
Icewings: Icewings have ridged wings which mimic icicles and shattered glaciers. Their wings feature sharp, narwhal-like spines at the tips. Similar to their serrated claws, they are perfect for stabbing into ice for balance, or spearing seals & fish. They can also hold dragon/prey firmly in place, and easily scewer an opponent in flight if needed.

HOW TO SMELL AN ENTIRE APPLE: A SHORT STORY
Inspired by this post by @thatnordicguy and @anphivenas
Step #0 - Input the molecular formula for apple scent into the chemosynthesizer. Check against standard atmospheric regulations.
Step #1 - Inhale from the olfactory vent.
Step #2 - Step away in dissatisfaction, shake your head, put your hands on your hips. Purse your lips a little bit. Document discrepancy against memory file.
Step #3 - Ask Arto why he thinks real apples smell different. Listen to him talk about dirt while he mops, even though hydroponics hasn't used soil in sixty years.
Step #4 - Adjust temperature to match hydroponic bay specifications. Modify humidity levels to Earth-standard apple growing conditions. Calculate optimal dispersal timing.
Step #5 - Spend three months adjusting the ratio of esters while the Father AI logs your overtime as "personal research."
Step #6 - Request access to historical apple cultivation records. Compare against current hydroponic yields that you keep insisting aren't quite right.
Step #7 - Accept illegal thermos coffee from Arto while explaining why you're trying to simulate apple stem rot. Ignore his comment about how your genetic mother used to sneak him fresh apples during maintenance shifts.
Step #8 - Visit the hydroponic bay during off-hours. Stare at perfectly engineered apple trees while holding your latest formula.
Step #9 - Get caught by Arto in the hydroponic bay. Pretend you're doing official atmospheric maintenance.
Step #10 - File your three thousandth chemical variation attempt while children from the education deck eat fresh apples during their biology lesson.
Step #11 - Listen to Arto's story about his great-grandmother's apple trees on Earth while pretending to calibrate environmental controls. Make detailed notes about soil composition that aren't relevant to hydroponics. Make a note to yourself to request synthetic dirt.
Step #12 - Run formula past the station's other atmospheric engineers. Ignore their suggestions that the hydroponic apples are chemically identical to your synthesis.
Step #13 - Request video logs from the hydroponics bay from 14 years ago. Watch your own face.
Step #14 - Realize you're no longer sure what real apples smell like. Spend a week comparing your formula against hydroponic samples (to get back to square one) while Arto watches silently.
Step #15 - Submit research proposal for expanded apple volatiles study. Receive approval with note: "Recreational research permitted within standard atmospheric duties."
Step #16 - Calculate that you've spent more time perfecting this formula than an Earth apple tree takes to mature. Continue adjustments.
Step #17 - Watch Arto retire from maintenance duties. Inherit his illegal thermos and refuse to acknowledge why you keep it.
Step #18 - Access archived footage of the education deck from your childhood. Focus on analyzing environmental conditions instead of your own face.
Step #19 - Visit Arto in the elder care deck. Bring him hydroponic apples that you both agree aren't quite right.
Step #20 - Find Arto's old maintenance logs with notes about the original hydroponic bay installation. Ignore the drawings in margins made by children who are now atmospheric engineers themselves.
Step #21 - Input your final formula into the chemosynthesizer. Tell yourself it's for the sake of documentation.
Step #22 - Inhale from the olfactory vent while holding a fresh apple from the hydroponic bay. Compare the two. Bite an apple. Chew. Swallow. Inhale.
Step #23 - Step away in satisfaction, shake your head, put your hands on your hips. Smile a little bit. File formula in public database under "standard atmospheric maintenance". Take a seat in your motorchair, satisfied. Rub your achey legs.
Step #24 - Watch new generation of children eat apples during their biology lesson.
Step #25 - Die.

it's still so insane that we literally figured out a way to pop the hood on a crop's genetic makeup and swap in parts to make it more resilient, nutritious, and abundant, and the consumer market responded with a need for stickers on all of their foodstuffs to guarantee they contain none of those nasty scientist plants. not for sensible reasons, like giving agriculture companies the ability to sell single-use seeds or possible disruptions to local ecosystems, but because they made it in a lab so it must be bad for you somehow. go back to eating shitty, 5 kernel corn cobs and melons with a 60/40 seed to flesh ratio, then.

Are you a trans girl or non-conforming and would like to try out feminine clothing? You may want to check this out.
Say you found this dress online and you really love the overall style of it. Great! If you’re like me, you would say “F it! I’ll buy the dress and I’ll wear it how I like!” and move on with your life. That should the end of this guide, right? Except, there is one little problem: not everybody thinks this way. Those who look for the best matching outfits aren’t just searching to fit their style, color, or personality. It also has to do with their body type. If you’re in that situation, this guide may help you out.
Body shape
Believe it or not, there are many different types of body shape (up to 10). However, the most common tend to be the following (in no order):
Rectangle- Even distribution on shoulders, hips, and waistline
Pear/Triangle- Wide hips, well-defined waist, small shoulders
Hourglass- Near-exact hip and shoulder measurements, thinner waistline
Inverted Triangle- Broader shoulders, narrower hips, little waist definition
Apple/Round- Broad shoulders and big bust, thin legs and hips
Many transgender women have the inverted triangle body shape due to several factors such as genetics, bone structure, and age. However, your body shape may also change over time due to a rebalancing of hormones, body fat, and even lifestyle. While you can’t change your bone structure, you can change your body definition through exercises.
Body proportion
Here is something you may find useful if you’re looking to customize your look. Body proportions are unique to every individual and play a factor on clothing and to some extent, accessories such as jewelry. For instance, you may find the skirt you bought looks either too long or short. There are a few areas where to measure your body proportions such as wrist length or neck size. But the best way to improve your dress type is by following the “golden ratio rule” of dividing your body into three:
The way this is read is you’re either one-third top, two-thirds bottom, or you’re two-thirds top, one-third bottom. Once you get more knowledge, you can go upwards even eighths! But for now, the focus is on these two outcomes.
The two-thirds top, one-third bottom words well with long dresses:
while the one-third top, two-thirds bottom works well with more casual clothing:
Body measurements
Now that we got a few problems out of our way, it’s time to figure out what measurements you have. The best way to find out is by using a mirror and a soft measuring tape for body. Measure all the crucial parts of your body, which are the waist, hips, shoulders, and bust. This will determine the type of body you have and have a better idea on what length you will need to try out your clothing of choice.
Shoe size
One thing very important about an outfit is choosing footwear. Although you can use your old Converses with your flared jeans, you’re certainly not going to use them with a ruffled dress. You’re definitely going to want heels or flats! Unfortunately, women’s shoe size are not exactly the same as men. But don’t give up! Fortunately, there are women’s size conversion charts that help you choose what shoe size you need.
To find out your measurements on your own, grab at least two blank pieces of paper, a pencil or pen, and a measuring tape. Place your foot firmly forward and carefully trace around the outer area of your foot. Repeat this with your other foot. Once finished, grab your measuring tape and measure from your highest point to your lowest on both sheets. Measure the width as well. If both feet measure close to 10.5, your women’s size is a 12. However, due to a difference in manufacturing based on shoe brand, as well as shoe type like pumps, the average recommended size is at least 2 inches above your actual size. For those living in other countries that don’t use the US measuring size, I left a chart that shows all the possible measurements you may use to convert your shoe size into women’s size.
What to wear based on body type
Since not all clothing is made for everyone, it’s time to list what is considered the “ideal” clothing choices based on body type. Note that these are opinions from my source’s authors. IMO, the pictures below each suggestion are a better opinion. Your are free to choose your type of clothing.
Rounded or apple shapes fit best with monochrome colors and make the person look more “fit”.
Pear or triangle shapes look more balanced with decorative accessories on top while keeping the bottom more plain.
Rectangle shapes tend to have more volume with a waist belt while pleated pants give more volume on hips.
Hourglass shapes look best when wearing bodycon dresses and cardigans to emphasize volume in their waistline.
Inverted triangle shapes pull off the wide leg pants and fitted top combo the best.
For a much more comprehensive guide for each body type, I highly recommend reading The Concept Wardrobe’s guides. It gives more details on what to wear and how to choose the best combinations. Link is provided here: https://theconceptwardrobe.com/search?query=body+frame
Tips on what to wear
Now that you reached this point, I’m pretty sure you’re excited to try out what your heart desires. However, before you go out and buy that two-piece dress, I recommend researching and observing the type of clothing women wear today. Believe it or not, people will judge based on your way of dressing, from background to social status to age. A simple look like bodysuit and jeans may look perfect on you and blend you in with the girls, but something like a hot pink bodycon will make you stand out, and most likely not in a good way. So how would you choose something that blends you in with society, but also be comfortable at the same time? Here are some tips and pics:
Find clothing that “feels” feminine. In other words, buy clothing that “feminizes” your body, such as tops that make your shoulders look shorter, wrap dresses that make your waistline shorter, and skirts that make your hips look wider.
Find the best colors based on skin tone and hair color. For instance, try out warm colors such as orange if your skin tone is warm.
Dress sexy, but never go too revealing. Seriously, have some respect to yourself. But if you really want to go out wearing, for example, a two-piece outfit, wear one that looks stylish and flatters your body in a great way.
Use accessories that fit and blend well with your body. Large jewelry goes well with larger frame, small jewelry fits with smaller wrist, and so forth. Don’t forget the purse! It is absolutely necessary now that you’re wearing pocketless clothing. Choose one that fits your taste and needs.
Bras and undergarments are necessary to wear now. As you further into your transition, your breasts will start growing and it will become more difficult and uncomfortable going out braless. Start out with a brassiere, then move on to a fitted bra as they become bigger over time. As for down there, I would use boy briefs as they’re similar to boxers. Although HRT will cause it to shrink, it does not make it disappear. If you must hide it, use a gaff or a tuck, but do not use chastity belts (Seriously, stay away from that unless you’re really into that thing).
Optional: use waist shapers or corsets to slim down waist. Hip enlargement pads will also give your narrow hips and butt much needed volume. Breast forms can also give you an idea how big you want them in the future.
Fashion sense
But the most important part of choosing clothing as a trans girl is to wear whatever suits your taste.
For instance, are you more into the traditional and simple feminine aesthetic? Cottagecore may be for you:
But what if you’re the rebellious type that prefers to defy tradition? Well, maybe the alt-girl fashion is for you:
Maybe you’re the type that changes clothing based on season. So if you’re a summer-season type of girl, you’re definitely going for an outfit like this:
How about if you’re into the gym? Clearly your goal is to be like this:
Are you into business casual? There’s also a pic for that:
(The girl in the pic is also transgender! Her name is Suzi Hunter, better known as The Sphere Hunter.)
But we also can’t forget cosplay, either!:
(Cosplayer is Eden the Doll, a trans woman cosplayer! Picture belongs to Geo Leon.)
You’re probably the party type who loves some action:
Casual wear can also be tasteful and attractive too:
There’s so much to pic, but each style says a lot about what type of woman you are.
Where to buy clothing
If you’re interested in finding the right clothes for you, check out places that are especially gender-inclusive. As I’m based in the US, clothing stores such as Target are a good start while higher-end chains such as Nordstrom and Macy’s may have a better variety to choose from. If you’re a thrifty shopper, your local outlets, discount stores, and thrift shops have a surprising amount of great clothing for affordable prices. Although online sites like Amazon, Shein, and Zara have affordable and appealing clothing, many of these brands also have ethical concerns that overshadow their reputation. Dubbed “fast fashion”, they are a source of scrutiny among fashion fans and I would personally avoid them if possible. If you really need something affordable and new, I highly recommend purchasing through discount and thrift stores.
If you’re in need of safe undergarments, check out Urbody. They have clothing suitable for trans people, non-binary, and other identities, varying from binders to tucked leggings. They are founded by trans and non-binary people and use ethical practices and living wages for their workers. If you’re interested in checking their site out, here is the link to their page (I am not sponsored by them): https://urbody.co/
Conclusion
The whole point of this guide is to help you pick the proper clothing and accessories as a newly-out girl. I made this guide since there doesn’t seem to be many that are detailed. Keep in mind I’m still learning about female clothing as I am still in the first stages of transition myself. If anyone would like to add more info that is missing or provide any corrections, please reblog and add more helpful tips as it would help trans girls, trans women, non-binary, and anyone else that desires to wear affirming clothing. Please refrain from using any hurtful language if you’re doing so. Thank you and hugs!

Hello! I'm not sure if you've answered this question before, I wasn't able to find anything in a quick search. I was curious, since there are some colors of cats that are predominantly female, are there any colors that are predominantly male? I know some colors are sex linked but I don't know a lot about cat genetics
There aren't any colors that you can look at and go 'hm this cat must be male', but there are a few that are somewhat more common in males: red-based colors.
Cats have a gene called orange on the X chromosome which has two variant, O (red) and o (black). If a cat has only O, it's red-based; if it has only o, it's black-based (this category includes everything from solid black to like... caramel silver shaded tabby); if it has both, it's tortie-based. (Every black-based color has a tortie equivalent.)
Males have only one allele, females have two (normally). So males can be only black or red, not tortie. Let's say the black:red ratio among them is p:q. In this case in females the black:tortie:red ratio would look like this: p²:2pq:q².
In most cat populations o is the more common allele, q is smaller than p, which means q² will be a lot smaller than p². See this diagram i made to illustrate the color distributions:
Here males have a 4:1 black:red ratio, and females have a 16:1 black:red ratio.
As for colors: in blacks the male:female ratio is 5:4, in reds it's 5:1.
Would you call a color where every sixth cat is female "predominantly male"? It's far from torties, where they say around every 3000th cat is male, but still, five times more males.
#as i said before: a red female is not surprising just a little uncommon#honestly i think around here even a colorpoint cat is more rare than a red female#ask and answer#cat genetics#orange#i'm an influencer now

VERITAS RATIO HEADCANONS (because we need more content of him that's him-centric)
And because you guys asked. Most of these headcanons are purely based on my readings of him or have 0 basis in canon, so if you don’t like them, feel free to scroll past them!!
fighting the war on autism on the side of autism. As a neurodivergent he's very nd coded to me, especially with the fact that he's a very caring person but terrible with emotions and words. He's losing the idgaf war so badly like there's no way a neurotypical person has a temper that short over the most (seemingly) inane shit
Kind of pasty. not just like porcelain skin, like clay-sickly-victorian-boy type palor. He tries to go outside more often, but by the nature of his job he's rather sedentary and inside alooot. He's perfectly healthy, he just looks like that. Same complexion as Freminet in my head, with fewer freckles and a tooth gap he likes to deny he has.
Wears the alabaster headpiece not just to deal with idiots, but to self regulate out in public. It blocks out smells, and dampens sound and light enough for him to tolerate some of the veeery overstimulating environments he visits.
For a man that values creativity explicitly, not enough people seem to believe he’d have an interest in the arts. So I think he's into sculpting. A chisel and hammer are very comforting weights in his hand, and while he doesn't particularly care for pottery or wet clay, he gets why it's so well liked. He uses himself as reference mostly because he's most familiar with his own body and asking others can be awkward or seen as weird.
The dude has extremely obscure taste in sci-fi novels. Like he will yap on and on about why he can't stand most sci-fi and recommend the most odd shit out there if asked.
Not really a hc, but he has very brittle self-esteem. It simply comes with the territory of being labeled “gifted” or “a child genius.” For years, a lot of his perceived worth came from the quality of his work or academic validation, and now his big reason for staying in academics isn't the knowledge itself, but rather the joy of teaching and sharing the things he knows.
Somehow both touch starved and touch averse. Contact must be initiated by him on his terms, or a shutdown will happen. But when someone he trusts does this, it's the funniest thing because he thinks he's being so subtle about his enjoyment of it. (Aven played w his hair once and Veritas passed tf out like that and Aven couldn't move for an hour.)
Chronic over-explainer. Either he misreads someone's tone and thinks they need the detail, or past conflict was caused by him thinking he didn't explain enough (it was usually just people being purposefully obtuse or daft.)
Unsurprisingly terrible to deal with when sick. Non-verbal, sits under a mountain of weighted blankets, and only communicates via the notes app on his phone or having Aventurine help him.
Ratio is terribly farsighted - just genetics. Lasic surgery fixed most of it, but he still needs reading glasses and contacts.
Intimacy issues alert. Vulnerability is scary and being put on a pedestal your whole life tends to make letting down pretenses a lil nauseating. Mortifying ordeal of being known and all that.
Girl Anachronism by the Dresden Dolls makes me think of him. I can't explain it. I think it's a combo of him being hella self aware of his issues but also just kinda treating them like something of a character flaw or moral failing rather than something he can ask for help with. Just a thought
AND THATS ITS IVE YAPPED ENOUGH ABOUT RATIO. The Aveenturine and Golden Ratio posts will come soon but for now have these. He makes me insane.
