Arcane inspired tattoo designs I did on my alternate account on Instagram.
Figured they’d fit here even though they’re different from my illustrative style!
This show broke me, and it’s very tempting to get something from it inked on me 💜

Wanted to add some additions of the 2nd Arc as well. Here’s what I theorize the characters last names might be:
Arc 2:
Moonwatcher Mossborne (Admittedly, not a last name chosen by her, simply reclaimed from Nightwing bullies. Moon wasn’t conditioned to the volcanic kingdom’s brutal conditions, she was a scaleless ‘moss-born’. Soft & accommodated, or so her fellow Nightwings described. But knowing the rainforest was her home, the sacrifice her mother made, she accepted this name and ran with it.)
Turtle Rippleroar (Matches his sisters & royal family line name.)
Winter Flurrison (Last name has a hint of nobility for his class as a prince, and is a play on a ‘flurry of snow’, a good way to describe his icy temperament.)
Qibli Macadam (Translates to broken stone/sediment, specifically that of which is used to build roads. Similar to Qibli, given his background of abuse & harsh upbringing, he’s like asphalt, a gritty texture that can withstand many things, and is broken down. But in his case, using his grit to build a better road as a hero.)
Kinkajou Pinkfrill (based off the nickname older Rainwings would give her. Being pink-frilled is another way of saying ‘happy’ in Rainwing vocabulary. “You’re looking pinkfrilled today, or, what’s got you so pinkfrilled this evening?”
Peril Emberling (Peril would have many last names, none pretty and most feared in her time as a champion & flamescale. “My Emberling” was often something Scarlet would say as a manipulative term of endearment to Peril. This name was stolen from Kestrel, who, before being commanded to kill her twin dragonets, addressed them as her little emberlings. Peril would never know this information about her last name, however, due to Kestrel’s death.)
Darkstalker Shiverburne (The union of his parents’ names, passed down to himself & Whiteout. Arctic & Foeslayer chose to combine their last names into the union of one. Shiverburne that being Arctic Shiverren & Foeslayer Starburne. Darkstalker rarely used his last name due to it being associated with Arctic, even in the smallest regard.)
Do you think WOF dragons have last names?
I like this question a lot!
I could see it extending into some tribes, but perhaps not being exclusive to all. Interesting one to approach!
Mudwings, for example, don’t have any strong ties to parents, so last names likely wouldn’t hold much weight being passed down. But it would be fascinating if they formed troop names that would essentially act in place of their last name.
I also like the idea that Nightwings can change their first name to fit with their current identity/occupation (if they wish), and their former name could become a last name of sorts.
Icewings & Seawings seem like the type to have distinct last names due to their royal family lines staying mostly consistent throughout.
Skywings & Sandwings feel like they’d receive last names based on great achievements, as status symbols. Getting a last name is an honor, perhaps they do ceremonies for granting this?
Rainwings may do simple nicknames or color themed last names based on their main scale patterns.
Regardless, just for funsies, here’s what I think the first arc’s last names would hypothetically be in this universe. I’d love to hear your or anyone’s own ideas on this!
Arc 1:
Clay Broadhorn (Mudwings may base last names on their common physical characteristics as a troop)
Tsunami Rippleroar (Water related, tough sounding for a lineage of royalty)
Glory Lightbloom (A last name Glory adopts as Queen when her fellow Rainwings comment on her scales ‘blossoming’ gradually with more suntime, like a flower taking in its first spring.)
Starflight Scrollsort (Assigns himself his own last name based on his occupation at Jade Mountain, and his love of scrolls being a key part of his life)
Sunny Thornsage (Based not only on a desert plant, but on the ‘Sage’ wisdom of choosing Queen Thorn in place of the warring Sandwing Sisters)

OH. MY. GOD
HOW DID I NOT FIND YOU SOONER!!??! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE seeing Headcannons and concept that add complexity and depth to WOF AND YOURS ARE SO INCREDIBLE.
This is absolutely wild, as an art student that makes me want to work harder and harder to reach this level of competence!! So now if you excuse me I have to end this message to go draw and eat your art.
I just wanted to make you know how much I love your art ‘cause not enough people take time to actually say/write it to artists. I hope you have a great day!
Oh my thank you! 🤯🤯
Thank you so very much! I appreciate you for sharing this, it means the world to me, and I agree we must also encourage artists in our own community more as well! Tumblr is very good at that at least.
Giving each other art inspiration is a two way street, we encourage each other and vice versa. It’s how great things be produced, I know without WOF artists in this community I wouldn’t be nearly as inspired myself to create 🫶
In terms of the concepts/worldbuilding, I’ve been reading WOF all throughout high school and middle school, so I’ve grown up in the world and it’s never left my mind, even now. I may not be a dragon, but the books make me think how one would operate lol.
WOF’s potential for worldbuilding is so fun to dig into, so please, explore for yourself! Create some amazing things, and best of luck in your art studies. 👍

Imagining a WOF show with the same artistic vibes & story direction as Arcane would probably be the closest thing to what I imagine heaven on earth looks like.
This art is just wonderful! The eyes hold so much emotion and the rendering is top notch. Beautiful work!
Umm ummmm arcane and wofb on your timeliness? More accurate than u might thibk..
Working with dreadnought on an arcane inspired animation so I made a few concepts of some of the gang to figure out their core character features, but in less of a joy ang style and more like arcane!
I'm super happy with whiteout since I think she came to me the fastest.. I could just. See her in my big fat head. Fathom and clearsight both had some kinda ugly sketches to start out and then for darkstalker I think he is just TOO pretty. Dread made a really great concept based on mine that feels better honestly, stay tuned for more of this project :)!

WOF Leafwing concept art. My aim here was to showcase some wings based on actual leaf types found in nature.
Read below cut for close-ups of each individual art & wing type.
I’m least familiar with arc 3 in the series, but I’m catching up slowly but surely and working on some cool headcannons & art for ya’ll! Which leaf shape do you like best?

Hey! Saw your posts on concept art about the WOF tribes, and that inspired me to create bodyguard/pet headcanons. Just thought you might wanna check it out. Love your artstyle! Have a good day/night!
This is such a fun idea! I love this concept so much. We know Rainwings keep sloths, Mudwings raise livestock, and Winter was allowed to have a ‘pet’ scavenger, so it only makes sense dragons would domesticate and use animals to assist them in their tribes.
I’m imagining specifically Scarlet having a bird sanctuary now somewhere in the Sky Kingdom, maybe the throne room, and having them perched on her shoulder during all her book scenes now.
Thank you for sharing, I’m glad I could inspire you! WOF has so much potential for worldbuilding ideas, and you killed it with this one! 😁

Mmmm *eats your designs*
(positive)
Thank you!!! 🙏
No greater compliment than this! If art is not meant to be eaten then we are living in a parallel universe.
The real question is…what do the designs taste like…? 🤔

Bless you for being so kind, I struggle to stay motivated and creative as well, the pencil can be a burden to lift more often than not. But it’s feedback like this that makes me continue creating!!
I hope you do feel better, there’s certainly nothing fun about being sick, so I’m glad I could help to inspire you a bit. No matter how you’re feeling, I do hope the desire to create cool art will remain for you as well!

I thought I'd show the fan tribe work you inspired!!! I also did crowns :)
These are so lovely! Also crowns is a really creative idea as well for tribes!
It’s so cool to see the tribe banners inspired you, I love the unique shapes of yours! Especially the spiderweb look of the Desertwings one in the center of the 1st slide.
It’s really an honor to have inspired you! Thanks for sharing, I love seeing what the community can create. WOF fans are awesome!

I absolutely adore your work!!! You've inspired me to focus even more on the culture of my own fan tribes, and I even made a banner for my favorite one :3
I hope you keep drawing for years to come, and keep uo the good work!!!
This is truly one of the best compliments I could ever receive. Thank you so much! 🫶
I’m so glad to hear you’ve been able to focus on your own tribes! World-building can really challenge you to think outside the box and do some fun research. Fantasy banners are always cool to draw lol.
I hope I can keep being inspired and same to you! Art can be a chore at times & creating is not for the weak, so you gotta take the motivation as it comes, but that’s why we artists gotta help each other out! So thanks again for the kind words, it means so so much! 😁

TMI, obsidians in real life, are incredibly sharp but very fragile. So, if one was to make a weapon out of it, they won't be targeted for long-term use. Peaces of blade would be stuck inside the wound, so it would also be tricky for medics to treat. And since you headcannoned that Nightwings offered assassination services, I think it works well with the quick and promising death assassins persue. Wonderful work!
Oooh this is some neat info! Thank you for sharing!!
When I was initially designing & thinking through the idea of the Nightwing booth, I knew obsidian had incredibly sharp properties, and I figured it would match the Nightwing aesthetic & dark themed color palette more than anything lol.
But I hadn’t considered the fragility and how that would work in favor for an assassin. I love that you picked up on this and attached it to the head-cannon. That’s an awesome bit of detail to know!
I’m glad you enjoyed the concept, thanks again for letting me learn some new info 😁

WOF tribe Merchant/Trading booth concepts:
Hey folks! This one was the recent winner of this WOF poll, so here’s my concept art that headcannons trading in Pyrrhia.
Read below cut for close-ups of the individual booths + the thought process / headcannons behind the design choices: 👇
Skywings: The Sky Kingdom’s mountain ranges provide plenty of pasture for raising sheep. As such, Skywing shepherds benefit from traveling to sell their wool, dyes, fabric, and woven tapestries. Many of these merchant tables also include herbs grown exclusively in the mountains, or ibex drinking horns that can be strapped on a dragon’s shoulder & carried in flight.
Along with goods, Skywing merchants may offer sewing services to fix tears, burn marks, or other fabric damage. They are sought out for their quality clothing, and most fabric across Pyrria originated from a Skywing’s talons.
Mudwings: Mudwings’ abundant food & cooking skills are envied almost anywhere in Pyrrhia. Their swamps have fertile soil, responsible for hosting diverse crops which can be purchased as produce at merchant stalls. For those lucky enough to find a traveling Mudwing merchant, the promise of a delicious dish can be whipped up and served at the stall in no time. Along with produce goods, Mudwings sell weaved baskets, spices, and cooking ware.
Sandwings: Sandwing booths offer luxuries of the desert: It’s most common to find accessories such as gold carved jewelry or musical instruments such as drums, lyres, & mandolins for sale. Though, even more sought out across Pyrrhia is Sandwing tattoos/piercings, which are done within the merchant areas. Ink etchings on papyrus paper are stationed outside their tents to showcase designs. All which can be selected, and poked into the skin with a tapping stick and plant dye ink by a trained talon.
Seawings: SeaWings sell a variety of ocean related goods; taking a share in the fish market with Icewings. Outside of food, there are den decorations like driftwood carvings, accessories such as seashell & pearl jewelry, and rope nets weaved by expert Seawing sailors. Some Seawings even sell fishing equipment, canoes, or offer sailor knot tying instructions to curious dragon buyers.
Nightwings: During the war, it was near impossible to find a Nightwing merchant. Most refused to participate in merchant territory, mostly as a way to keep up with their tribe’s mysterious nature.
Though in the more shady, unground parts of the market you can buy from a huge selection of obsidian weaponry, the sharpest in Pyrrhia. No one knew initially how Nightwings smithed so many weapons, or why, until their secret volcano kingdom and the intention to invade the rainforest was discovered. Then forging armor & weapons became clear. Along with a vast armory, for the right price, some Nightwing merchants offer Prophecies & Nightwing Literature (not always guaranteed to always be reliable) and assassin services as well (very reliable).
Rainwings: Though Rainwings haven’t been part of Pyrrhia trading for years, they have a vast hold on dragon medicine. An apothecary of herbs, salves, and remedies are all offered for various ailments due to the rainforest’s abundant resources. Along with medicinal goods, many Rainwings are fruit vendors, promising to any hesitant meat-eating dragons that such an array of flavors isn’t to be missed. Though, their fruit selling pitches often fall flat to most other predominantly meat-eating tribes.
Icewings: Icewings have everything a dragon could need to brace the cold, with a selection of goods only found in the most frigid regions of Pyrrhia. Furs, bone jewelry, and fresh fish (thanks to frost breath) are served on ice. Though Icewings themselves don’t require fur to withstand the cold, it’s considered fashionable and common in upper ranks to wear fur as a status symbol. Since metal is hard to smith without fire & in cold temperatures, fur and bone are more accessible to Icewings for clothing statements.

Another poll for ya’ll, since the WOF food worldbuilding was a huge hit!
Thank you all again for your feedback, reblogs, etc. I took a minor pause from WOF but the art always brings me back. So, I ask ya’ll question once again-
Unique Weaponry:
In WOF we know spears are utilized by each tribe, but there’s potential for more; claw knuckes, tail end weapons, wing tip blades, etc. Do Icewings utilize ice or bone to create blades instead of fire to smith them? Do Sandwings coat blades in venom? This prompt emphasizes art of weapons meant to be wielded by dragons, not scavengers. How would a dragon utilize a sword? (Think Guardians of Ga’hool style weapons).
Merchant Booths:
Trading is hinted to be a part of WOF, and is mentioned in Darkstalker’s book + the Scorpion Den. This prompt goes into what each Tribe could offer to other dragons across the continent.
From the tattoo/piercing booths by Sandwings, to the fabric & wool of Skywings, to the remedies of the rainforest, this opens the door to tribes interacting and benefiting each other with their resources. Both booths and props will be illustrated!
