The RG Kar Incident: DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES TO RAPE

I’m unsure of how many non-Indians or even non-Bengalis know of this. Regardless of whether you do or do not, I would request you to reblog this post & share awareness about this. DON'T LET INJUSTICE GO UNPUNISHED.

On August 9, 2024, the body of 31-year-old post-graduate medical trainee, Dr. Moumita Debnath, was found partially naked in the seminar room of RG Kar, a hospital in Kolkata. She had just finished working a 36-hour night shift before this and, out of exhaustion, had fallen asleep while studying in the nearest seminar room on the fourth floor of the hospital.

Her family was informed beforehand that she had committed suicide, to which her mother emphasized on the fact that her daughter could never carry out such an act. On further investigation, it was found that Dr. Debnath had been raped and murdered in her sleep.

According to the Deccan Herald,

“There was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth, injuries over the face and nail. The victim was also bleeding from her private parts. She also has injuries in her belly, left leg… neck, in her right hand, ring finger and… lips. [...] “Her neck bone was also found broken. It seems that she was first strangulated and then smothered to death.”

According to Medical Dialogues,

“There were multiple hairs on the mattress and blood was soaked on the blue mattress [...]”

Later, it was found that Dr. Debnath’s glasses were shattered and her eyes were pierced with the shards of her glasses themselves.

Although one of the criminals (Sanjoy Roy) has been arrested, I am certain that there are others involved. In fact, it has been found that Sanjoy Roy, despite being an outsider, was granted access to PG Kar via personal relations with senior police officers.

The chief minister of West Bengal (despite being a woman herself) as well as members other political parties are trying, behind the scenes, to let this case fade away. Why? Oh right, it's really the privileged, upper class & upper caste sons and brothers of ministers who are behind this! No major crime can happen in a country without there being the hand of one or more influential persons, often politically involved.

Sisters and brothers, দিদিরা ও দাদারা, it would be a sin to remain silent in the face of such a crime. Our brave brothers & sisters pursuing medical practise have ceased working in their hospitals to protest against this grave crime against women, against humanity. We cannot let this injustice go unpunished! A crime against a single woman is a crime against all of us! We were born from a woman, raised by a woman—and now, when we see the honour, dignity and life of women at stake, won’t we join the andolan? Won’t we fight for what is right?

Requesting all Kolkata residents (who can) to join in at least any one of the protests mentioned below. There are provisions for elderly & disabled people. Men are invited to join us as well.

Blowing the conch has always been a signal of strength. In traditional Bengali culture, it is almost always the women who blow the conch, be it in Durga Puja or the everyday pujas carried out at home. It was, and always will remain a sign of victory over evil. At 11:55 p.m., all those who cannot join the midnight assembly (the aforementioned event) can, instead, blow the conch from their own houses! Let them know you're not afraid. Let them know you've had enough. Let them know that once a revolution starts, especially one spearheaded by women, takes a long, long time to end.

Why don't you just stay away from your trigger content instead of forcing people to consume what YOU want them to consume?

It's always "People shouldn't write about this" "People will see X abusive ship and think it's okay irl" "People will see this and think X trope it's okay" "People will see this and think doing X in real life is okay" "People will turn into rapists/murderers/abusers if they see rapes/murders/abuse in media".

But it's never "People are responsible for what they consume" "People are responsible for their own actions" "If someone does X bad thing is not the media's fault, but the person's fault for having such bad morality" "If you feel triggered by some content, just block it" "People should teach others what's wrong and what's right instead of just hoping media will tell them murder is bad, killing someone is bad, abusive relationships are bad, etc"

Honestly, if you're a person who uses the word "romantizice" or you say "people shouldn't romanticize [X] in fiction" "victims of [X] will feel triggered with this and you shouldn't write about it" you are instantly a red flag for me. I want toxic people and pro-censorship people to stay away from me, thank you.

The post itself isn't awful, it's not horrendous or anything but the way he responds to having biases pointed out is very concerning. He is not an ally to our fight. Look at what this content breeds in the comments

"pity points" are them viewing you as less of a person btw. Also "gyno insecurity" is a disgusting thing to say abt societal abuse regarding intersex traits. This is not only using our abuse, it encourages it to strangers! It supports the belief that we should be medicated, that our existence is pitiful and depressing

As for the last one, I hate to say this, but have any of you ever heard about Brandon Teena? You know he often used being intersex as an excuse, but he wound up being outed anyways, leading to him being brutally raped and murdered?

Reading Tumblr today I get the feeling that a lot of these people praising Hamas' horrific attack on Israeli civilians aren't really pro-Palestine so much as they're just looking for another reason to justify their hatred of Jews. You can believe that the Israeli government has committed unforgivable atrocities against innocent Palestinians without wishing rape and murder on innocent Israeli civilians in turn.

Also, speaking as a white American? saw some people talking on here about the term salmacian again and like. in the grand scheme of things it’s small. but I don’t think it will ever not be jarring for me to see a group of dyadic people take inspiration from a collection of myths that is famously about the rape of an intersex person, and then to take the name of the rapist. especially given the fact that this is the collection of myths that the word “hermaphrodite” is taken from, and it feels like incredibly poor taste to not understand how much weight that slur carries for us and how much of a difference there is between us reclaiming that in the tradition of intersex radical activism versus dyadic people treating hermaphrodite like it’s something casual to throw around.

Scammer on the loose, be careful!!

So, today I had the "pleasure" to get a message from a person who wanted a comic. Dude was suspicious from the start, so I decided to dig a bit and get more info.

First he messaged me asking for a comic, which surprised me, because I don't do commisions at the moment, though i was willing to do a single commision if i decided to, so I heard him out.

He requested a comic in which Ragatha and Pomni (tadc characters) would fight over him. I thanked him for asking, but refused to make it. He pretended to get confused at my decision and was claiming over and over that my reasons don't make sense

He claimed that I should be the one telling him the price, and when I explained that I can't because I'm not taking commissions he was surprised, as if I didn't tell him that twice before

He started to act like a child. To make a long story short he said that he wants the drawing and that I should make it for him, and when I asked him why I should do that he just repeated "because I want a drawing"

He kept insisting my reasons for not doing the comic were confusing and kept saying the same things over and over. The conversation basically repeated itself two or three times before I decided I had enough.

In the mean time he commented under one of the posts I reblogged on his side account. He was being mean to one of the other users that commented under that post. When I intervened he called me retarded 2 times

I checked that account and soon enough I realized that's the same person that is trying to scam me. He reblogged a post of a different creator @replacementcodeau which got scammed by him

He also tried to scam user @pizzycrisisline and probably a few more that I just didn't hear of.

I decided I have enough info to call him out, as well as I realized I won't get more information from the scammer himself

He then decided to insult me even more, as well as sending disgusting things and threatened me with rape and murder

This person messaged me from the @4th-hokage , but he also has different accounts. The ones I know about are @anime-deman677 , @three-swordsman , @man-bat567 , but that's most probably not all. He seems to use numbers 6, 7, 8 and 5 quite often in his usernames. He also changed his usernames a few times

I'm sharing this so that less people would get scammed by this person, hopefully no more. He also seems to be reblogging his call-out posts (that's how I found one of his side accounts) so you can identify him by this as well.

lol you’re really slow if you believe that “transmisandry” is on the same level as transmisogyny. no one is denying that trans men face oppression because they are trans men, because they absolutely do! but a lot of the time, when you hear stories about trans men being assaulted or killed, it is purely because of misogyny; because they were perceived as a woman, if not for another outside reason. meanwhile, when a trans woman is killed, it is almost always because she is trans, not to mention that trans women have way more stigma against us compared to trans men. just look at who conservatives always blame for “gender ideology,” it’s ALWAYS a trans woman

"no one is–" yes they do. frequently people do exactly that. for example:

"trans men (mostly) get assaulted and killed because they are perceived as women." downplaying the role transness plays in the violence we experience is not much better than denying it happens at all. also calling me "slow" first thing in an ask is a bad idea if you want to seem reasonable.

First of all, people rarely ever admit that! People genuinely get pissed off at trans men for saying they are vulnerable to misogynistic violence while not being women. You are only admitting that trans men experience misogyny as an argument for why talking about anti-transmasculinity is BadWrong Actually.

Trans men are murdered and labeled women, trans men in abusive families and marriages aren't allowed to transition, so the vulnerability of trans men is never recognized. Woaaaah it's almost like.... the misogyny is intersecting with something..... being trans perhaps?

Second, "you only get murdered because people mistake you as a woman" is also an argument used against trans women, by people who are invested in ignoring the complexities of trans people's relationship with misogyny.

Thirdly, trans men do get assaulted and killed for being trans. Not that they always get enough police attention that the motivations or attackers will ever be known (very much the same case with trans women victims). Do you know any of their names? Do you talk about the violence done to them, ever? Not just Brandon Teena, but Ebeng Mayor? Myles Utz? Ahmed El-Tounsi? Gautam Ramachandra and Shaman Gupta? Zahair Martinez? Abhay Gondane? Ky Peterson? Jacob Williamson? Lourenzo Broken? Andrew Jonathan Blake-Newton? Camdyn Rider? Manoj? Do you ever think about them? Because I think the fact that we only talk about the violence against trans men when we are talking about how it barely ever happens and should be shoved aside to make space for the Real Issues says a lot.

I hate the discourse around rape scenes because I agree with a lot of the core critiques about how poor portrayals of sexual violence are in popular media, but the end goal of all these conversations is just "we should never have rape scenes in media" because they're "triggering to women" (they never mention male victims ofc). Forget the fact that no, you do not get to speak for all women, that could be said about ALL portrayals of violence in media. "Why do you need a murder scene to portray someone being killed?" or "Why do you need to include a mugging scene, don't you know that's triggering to mugging victims?"

I get that sexual violence is an uncomfortable topic for lots of people to watch and I respect your right not to engage with media that has it. However "it makes me uncomfortable" is not a reason to ban something. You are not the main character of the universe
