The main milestone has already passed earlier this year but here's another small update on the way to marriage equality in Thailand:
The Marriage Equality Bill has received royal endorsement and will soon be published in the Royal Gazette, according to a government source speaking to Thai Enquirer. This development signifies that Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia to officially recognize same-sex marriage, representing a monumental milestone for equality and loveā€”not only within the nation but also throughout the region! didnā€™t want to rb this post directly partially bc i see/get the overall point and partially bc i donā€™t want ppl to be a dick to me if i say shit (n i def do not intend any ire/ill will to op; i am just adding my thoughts)
but anyway. while i again do see the point of the post (not all queer ppl are harmed the same way/amount by the govt & more specifically by the recent Executive Orders), i also with respect think that the assumption that they are only specifically about targeting trans women or protecting cis women from trans women is just untrue (smthn some ppl in the notes are also claiming).
the eoā€™s have language that is explicitly targeting / inciting violence towards trans women & this is undeniable. everything that mentions ā€œprotecting women from menā€ and keeping ā€œmalesā€ out of ā€œwomenā€™s spacesā€ is very deliberately about targeting and harming trans women. there is an entire section of one of the EOā€™s dedicated specifically to removing ā€œmalesā€ (trans women) from womenā€™s prisons, and this is horrific and violent. transfems also suffer from the effects of hypervisbility, making them very easy targets for enforcement of these laws and the language within them. all of that is true.
& also, itā€™s very untrue that these eoā€™s arenā€™t designed to harm other trans ppl and intersex ppl. iā€™m not even talking generally ā€œoh these orders are about transphobia and so will harm all trans pplā€; there is specific language in them that is violent specifically towards intersex and transmasc ppl (in addition to the language that directly violently targets transfems) (none of which (transfem, transmasc, intersex) are mutually exclusive categories!).
the multiple eoā€™s concerning trans folks are rife with defining sex strictly as an immutable binary ā€” the ā€œimmutable biological reality of sexā€ ā€”ā€œprotecting sex-based distinctions,ā€ (both quotes from the ā€œdefending women from gender ideologyā€¦ā€ executive order) and deliberately codifying the erasure of any and all acknowledgment of sex outside of male/female is intentional, specific violence towards intersex people. this is deliberate targeting intersex people for violence and oppression (just as other parts of the same EO are deliberately targeting transfems).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is also the entire EO for ā€œprotecting children from chemical and surgical mutilationā€, which obviously is directed largely at any gender-affirming trans healthcare as a whole, but also very specifically names protecting against ā€œfemale genital mutilationā€ ā€” directly targeting transmascs, and ā€˜protectingā€™ cis women and girls from transmascs.
Tumblr media
transmascs are very much also viewed as a threat to cis women and cis girls, painted as ā€œcorrupting,ā€ ā€œstealing,ā€ and ā€œmutilatingā€ poor innocent young cis girls (or poor innocent cis lesbians, depending on the person wielding this rhetoric). transphobic rhetoric and anti trans laws are rife with this belief, deriding the ā€œmutilationā€ of their idea of the ā€œpure ideal female body,ā€ the ā€œhacking off healthy tissueā€ (re: top surgery), ā€œtestosterone poisoningā€ of girls, and the idea that trans men want to turn all young girls trans, want to turn all young lesbians trans ā€” ā€œi was a tomboy and if i were a kid today i wouldā€™ve been turned trans! they wouldā€™ve made me transition!ā€ (this is also part of the driver of the incredibly high SA rates among transmasc ppl)
this EO is simply a codification of that view of transmascs as a threat to cis womanhood. this EO targets all trans peopleā€™s right to our own bodies and bodily autonomy, and this language specifically directly targets transmascā€™s rights to their own bodies.
i do think itā€™s important to discuss that not all queer people are immediately impacted the same way by trumpā€™s bigotry. i also think itā€™s incredibly disingenuous to ignore the parts of these laws which are deliberately targeting specific subsets of the trans and intersex community (including ignoring the parts that explicitly are about transfems!). all trans and intersex people are intentionally, directly, and explicitly targeted by the governmentā€™s bigotry and violence in different ways; none of it is incidental or unintentional. they are ā€œprotectingā€ cis women, or, the white supremacist status quo, from trans & intersex people ā€” most especially nonwhite trans and intersex ppl.
anyway. those are my thoughts.
#quasartalks#trans#lgbtq#queer#transphobia#intersexism#transmisogyny#anti transmasculinity#us politics#politics#donald trump#undescribed#again this is no ire intended towards op#just my own thoughts.#but yeah like. there is also just the general fact that each of these EOs IS intended to target all trans & intersex ppl#some of the way some ppl talk abt this shit itā€™s like. u think transmascs and intersex ppl only get hurt by transphobic laws incidentally &#arenā€™t actually the ā€˜realā€™ targets of it. which is kind of a way of viewing transmascs as Less Trans.#also also i feel like the. ā€˜weā€™re all faggots in the eyes of the stateā€™ is not supposed to mean ā€˜weā€™re all treated equallyā€™? iā€™m sure some#ppl use it that way but thatā€™s not. the point of it?the point Is that theyā€™re coming for some of us (trans & intersex ppl particularly TPOC#) first and harder/worse than they r the rest of us and that that shouldnt let other queer ppl (namely cis yt queer ppl) assume theyā€™re saf#that they (cis yt queers) should have solidarity w us Because weā€™re going to be hurt the most (&they should care abt other ppl being hurt)#and Also bc it means they r going to be next. there is no respectable way to be a faggot. even if ur quiet and unobtrusive and let the#rest of us suffer and throw the rest of us under the bus bc ur not affected: theyā€™re going to come for u next. turning on ur more#marginalized queer family to gain the approval of the boot isnā€™t going to save you from your own oppression /because/ you are also a faggot#in the eyes of the state and they will come for u next.#anywya.#like many things i will leave rbs on for now but if ppl start being mean i will turn off

Found a new, concise way of putting it that I'm gonna try and remember so I can reuse it:
To say, as a straight person, that a queer character's queerness is out of the blue or unrealistic is to claim that they understand the queer experience to be able to identify inaccurate representation of it.
To call a character's queerness out of the blue as a straight person is to claim full understanding of the queer experience.
#YOU ARE NOT A BAD ALLY FOR NOT KNOWING EVERYTHING. YOU'RE A GOOD ONE. IF YOU KNEW EVERYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE YOU GAY NOT AN ALLY.#QUEER PEOPLE ARE NOT JUST YOUR TICKETS TO ELEVATE YOURSELF AS AN ALLY ON THE OCCASIONS THAT YOU WANT TO#WE ARE NOT EVEN IN YOUR PEERS OFTEN. WE ARE YOUR EDUCATORS UNIVERSALLY NOT JUST ON DAYS YOU FEEL UP FOR ADMITTING YOU NEED EDUCATION.#THE DISPARITY IN OUR QUALIFICATIONS IS THAT OF A PROFESSOR AND A STUDENT#AS IS THE AUDACITY OF A STUDENT TO CLAIM EQUAL OR MORE QUALIFICATION#lgbtq#finding ways constantly to rephrase it so people understand why they are not qualified to even attempt to debate#stranger things#also btw this is mostly for straight people because it's an entire different category of this action but no queer person has had every quee#experience either so you can't tell other queer people they're wrong for saying queer characters are realistic either#they match your experience or they don't#straight people have ZERO experience though so it's entirely different because that requires some fucking AUDACITY to claim qualification#mike wheeler#kitty song covey#evan buckley#the entire point of needing more representation is so that you see versions of the queer experience you didn't know about as a straight per#on#we aren't just asking for the same singular queer experience but in a higher quantity across more genres#you have NOT learned everything because you are not able to and that does not make you a bad ally it just makes you a straight person#so when queer people tell you you're wrong DON'T. ARGUE.#'it's unrealistic for them to be queer' really? and list off the exclusive number of ways a person can be queer. right now. go.#people being comfortable with will byers because he represents a queer experience they've seen in the media before#but if they've never seen it on tv before it's 'unrealistic'#no hon. it's unrepresented. there is a very big difference and it's the entire point actually. your lack of education is not your fault but#your denial of it is#lgbtq representation

Tumblr fandom logic these days: if two characters with different sets of genitals hook up, then theyā€™re straight and cis and the ship is hetero and itā€™s all Bad and Boring and Problematic

It's funny, I moved out of my old house so I could be more comfortable in my skin not surrounded by homophobic/transphobic family. And yet one of my roommates is a "saved" ex lesbian. she's super nice besides that I guess, considering she talks as though it's a choice... but all her current friends are super religious and or born again to be "straight" and idk I find it sort of ironic tbh. Sad as well for her, but ironic for myself like what are the chancesšŸ’€šŸ˜

"yeah your book has queer characters in it but is it interesting?"
i agree with the sentiment but these kinds of takes always make me think abt myself at age 14, desperately trawling the local small town library for any books with any mention of gay people (there werent many, at least that i could find at the time). i scoured internet forums for lists of queer books, but i didnt know the right key words and what i did find our library or local book stores usually didnt have and wouldve been really expensive to ship to finland. back then i wouldve read the phone book if youd told me there was a queer character in it.
i guess its just hard to get my head around how much more access there is nowadays. just looking for gay books is infinitely easier, theres a million lists online. if i walk into my local bookshop there will always be a gay romance book on the "trending on tiktok" shelf.
ofc these days the popular sentiment is "who cares if theres queer characters in a book, what matters is that its good". and thats a good thing!! its what we deserve!! but damn it sends my head spinning how much things have changed in just a decade

People who see entire demographics of humanity as ā€œthe enemyā€ are so baffling to me, whether theyā€™re incels/misogynists or racists or radfems or whomever I just look at them and wonder why youā€™d choose a life of such misery. People of a certain gender, sexuality, race or whatever demographic are not inherently your enemy just because they are part of said demographic. Gender and race essentialism is incredibly dangerous and untrue and it especially confuses me when people who claim to be trans allies abide by the former because that mindset is especially dangerous to trans people.
People are individuals, not a hive mind. Society as a whole has massive issues, and some groups may benefit from them more than others (like how the patriarchy hurts men but they still benefit from it far more than women ever will because it has men in mind, albeit only a certain type of man), but individuals are individuals. And what a depressing life it must be to instead navigate the world believing that millions of people are beneath you before theyā€™ve even spoken a word.

If you don't like the mustache that's fine, just say you don't like it. But saying you don't like it because you think it makes gerard, a genderqueer person who uses he/they pronouns, look less "femme" or genderqueer is really a bad look.

Whats the thing that tipped it romantic for you in shadowpeach? Mine was macaque calling wukong a gem (pretty gem in spanish) and i know lots of people was the sun and the moon, but you said it was the s4 specials for you
s4 specials for sure! Their argument in 4x11 is what made it click in my brain.
I think a lot of what we see before then can be interpreted in a very platonic fashion, and for me personally I don't read the "You are such a gem" line as romantic. Macaque is a dramatic theater kid, and he's pretty antagonizing, so nothing ever made me think "oh. they're exes".
Even in 2x07 with the whole "sun and the moon" bit, Macaque and Wukong's past dynamic is compared to MK and Wukong's current one, as well as to MK and his friends ("The moment the hero got real power, he couldn't care less about his friends! That's you bud.").
Then 4x11 gives us added context on what their relationship had been before everything, and it's like: oh. There's more than friendship there. But there's also more than romance there.
Honestly, I don't even think they knew what they were, but either way their broken relationship hurt both of them. The bitter feelings they both have for one another show, and maybe now they can get to working past that and understanding themselves and their relationship better.
