there's just... there is no reason to make yet another cop show in this day and age. copaganda is not only bullshit, it is a failure of imagination.
you want to watch brooding characters with dark pasts investigate crimes in an official capacity? just use private detectives (cops have a miserable solve rate anyway). want eccentric geniuses & their sidekicks solving mysteries? i present you with armchair detectives & neighborhood busybodies. oh, you're craving a workplace comedy-drama starring overworked protagonists doing their heartfelt best to resolve community conflicts? social worker office sitcom! bitch this is ACHIEVABLE

"'I grew up a queer teen on the fringes, and didn't feel like the world was made for me,' [New Jersey librarian Jenna] Ingham tells Yahoo Life. 'The goal is to be there for the teens, to make them feel seen, to make them feel valid.' Because, Ingham adds, "When you see yourself reflected back at you in the book, you feel like there is a place for you.'
"...'I had a teen tell me I was the only adult in their life that respects their pronouns,' Ingham shares. 'I recently had a trans teen come out to me. I had only just met them, but after 25 minutes of conversation they felt comfortable. I believe I was the first person they said it out loud to.'"

I appreciate and understand the love for Dead Poets Society in the Marauder-era fandom. The aesthetic is immaculate.
As a Brit and an older fan I would like to make a public service announcement that you're all sleeping on The History Boys. And would encourage everyone to go watch it.

currently all i want in my life is to have a reference librarian job at a library where nobody is doing weirdo power grab stuff/acting like sixth graders who don't want me at their lunch table. this desire feels pathetic to me & also probably wouldn't work anyway because i am incapable of showing up to a library but i immediately am like "i am CONCERNED! about the STATE of the FIELD!" and am constantly brimming with painfully earnest & deeply felt opinions. which is cringe, obviously, and also annoying to others. but in my defense the state of the field is fuckin bad. anyway. one simply should not dream of labor. etc.

Brain Curd #163 - Twenty-Minute Tuesday #17
Brain Curds are lightly edited flash fiction - practically first drafts - posted daily (haven't missed one yet!) and sometimes written with the express intention of being terrible… but, you know, in an endearing way. Please like and reblog if you enjoy - the notes keep me going!
Paul hiccupped, covered his mouth, and hit his chest lightly with his fist.
Pete looked up from his phone. “You good?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fi-” Paul hiccupped again. “Excuse me.”
“Hold your breath.”
“No, that doesn’t w-” hiccup “doesn’t work.”
“Just try it.”
“Fine.” Paul breathed in deep and shut his mouth tight. Pete stared at him, waiting for something - or nothing - to happen. Five seconds. Ten seconds. Fifteen -
Hiccup. Paul breathed in quickly, starving for air.
“Come on, you can’t hold your breath for fifteen seconds?”
“The hiccup interrupted me!”
“Try drinking a glass of water upside-down.”
“Ugh.” Hiccup. Paul made his way to the kitchen and filled a glass from the sink. “How am I supposed to hold myself upside-down?”
“Sit on the couch backwards.”
Paul set the glass on the floor and awkwardly put his legs where his head used to be and his face where his feet used to be, then started drinking. Halfway through the glass, he hiccupped again and sprayed water from his nose.
“It’s not working, Pete! It’s not working!”
“Don’t panic, that’s just going to make it worse!”
Paul began hiccupping once a second, and fell forwards off the couch onto the floor. “I can’t -” hiccup “breathe!”
“You’re gonna be fine, just relax!”
Paul’s hiccups increased in speed, now twice a second.
“Oh my god.”
“Wh-” hiccup “-at?”
“You’re going exponential. I’m so sorry…”
The hiccups were now four times a second. Pete ran to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and began chaotically throwing all the contents to the floor. Jars of pickles shattered and leftovers spilled. He yanked out the shelves and tossed them aside. The hiccups were already sixty-four a second. Paul collapsed on the floor of the living room. Pete crammed himself inside the fridge and shut the door behind him.
Paul exploded, from the diaphragm out, leveling the whole block. Aside from Pete, who was now trapped in the refrigerator under a pile of rubble, there were no survivors. Remember, folks, always notice the signs and call emergency services before it’s too late.

Aro culture is being friends with the straight aro-spec cis man who's "stealing resources" that exclus like to fearmonger about and knowing that he's done more for the community than those whiny pissbabies ever have
.
#Anonymous#aro culture is#aro#aromantic#actually aro#actually aromantic#ask#mod phoenix#honestly if someone thinks ppl are stealing resources from underprivileged groups it's usually pretty obvious they don't understand shit#like. 1) people using resources almost always means they get more funding#2) if it is happening.... lmao what money do you think these groups even have to steal from?#the majority of public services get funding based on a combination of limited private donations and public funding that's based on the#usage of the previous period of use#typically yearly#so - for example - if a university queer campus center of some sort is given 10k for funding in a year#(and i'm using a specific example i know of irl)#and they only use 5k of that?#most likely they will receive closer to 5k of funding the next year and not be able to meet any increased needs#using the money they are given means that they have the ability to take on larger projects#using those resources allows them to get large enough funding grants and shit to take on#the actual systems of oppression rather than desperately trying to keep individuals afloat#who are already aware of them and willing to ask for help#and knowing that a large portion of their community is unaware of those resources or too afraid of stealing resources to ask for help#which they not only *can* provide but *want to* provide#because it helps both those individuals and *that group* to be able to push for larger systematic change in the future#so yeah just. opinions.#if someone says they need the funding these groups are happy to do everything in their power to work with them#and honestly someone actually being malicious probs will stick out like a fucking sore thumb#and even then i've seen groups like these use it as a learning opportunity#to be like 'hey it's pretty clear you came here with this intention. now that you're here... how are you feeling about that? why?'

Tumblr media
many people were confused about some of my previous posts, so for the sake of clarity i am condensing everything! tumblr has extremely transphobic moderation practices, often flagging completely innocent posts as explicit, solely for containing trans women in them or mentioning transgenderism. while letting untagged porn in sfw tags (ive literally seen porn tagged as "sfw agere") and blatent hatespeech, especially twards trans people (just look at the "gender critical" tag) go completely unchecked recently the CEO of tumblr had a big public hissyfit about people (rightfully) calling him transmysogenistic, going into random trans womens dms to harrass them, and saying that predstrogen saying she "hopes he explodes with hammers and then explodes again and hammers fly everywhere" is a death threat and saying he is calling the FBI on her (repeatedly misgendering her and calling her "it") and many bloggers, apon speaking out about it or even making harmless jokes (one trans woman posted a picture of a car and a hammer with the caption "reblog to scare matt" and got nuked for it) and many are very very angry (rightfully) about this whole affair and tumblr in general. if you would like to look into it i reccomend scrolling the "predstrogen" tag as she is the case most people are talking about at the moment. So, what can we do? this is clearly an ongoing issue, and, dispite having lost a lawsuit about their transphobic moderation in the past (see : https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21274288-tumblr-nycchr-settlement) its clearly not gonna stop with just user complaints, as staff members are perfectly content to just go scorched earth on users who even so much as lightly poke fun at them well if you want to help you should contact the human rights commision (i will give clear details further down) ! you dont have to be in the US, nor be an adult to file, and it only takes a few minutes. this is the best and most effective method to fix this, because it hits tumblr where it hurts. human rights acencies have a lot of legal and financial power and tumblr CAN NOT just ignore them, and given that this will be the seccond time this is happening, the commisions shouldnt be playing nice anymore eaither. its really important that AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FILE, and with different examples! while maybe your case might not be enough to prop up a lawsuit on its own, we need to prove a general trend. so every little bit counts! to respond to another question abt this ive gotten, as for what exactly to report, you should a) write about an act of discrimination youve recieved on tumblr that was eaither administered by a staff member OR that staff refused to give adequate moderation action in for example : a terf posted some blatent hatespeech targeted twards you, and you reported them, and staff looked at the issue and refused to persecute it. example 2 : you were unfairly flagged, deleted, or otherwise punished by a staff member and you are queer ( AND the post they banned you for has some kind of tie to your gender, ex : a sfw transition progress photo ) OR b) if you have not personally recieved something like that, please look for other peoples stories (THEY SHOULDNT BE HARD TO FIND, within the last couple of hours trans people have been being banned LEFT AND RIGHT for trying to speak on this. i would reccomend checking some of the tags related to what happened with predstrogen) and you should describe that incident as best as possible (be sure to disclose that you are speaking for someone else, ideally you should tell the story of someone you know, if possible.) you can also mention any reports you have made twards people posting blatent hatespeech that, opon reveiwing tumblr refused to prosecute dispite it being very obviously against terms of service. just so nobody gets confused about the filing process, im laying it out in more plain languadge!!
first you should email the SF HRC (san francisco human rights commision), at [email protected] and say something along these lines :
Hello, I am [full name] from [country or state] and I am filing a complaint against Tumblr, witch is owned by the parent company Automattic Inc. located at 60 29th St, San Francisco, CA 94110.
Tumblr has had previous issues with the NYC DHR for their moderation being unfairly biased against trans women (see : https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21274288-tumblr-nycchr-settlement).
Despite a legally binding agreement with the NYC DHR, staff members still regularly harrass users based on their gender or sexual orientations. For example : on [date of most recent infraction] [describe incident] (if you are describing an incident that did not happen to you specifically, say something like) This incident involves the user [username] who I am not affiliated with (or/) who I am filing on behalf of.
I can be reached for further inquiries about this incident at [email you want to talk over] or [phone number you want to talk over]. (if you would like to be anonymous) However, In the event of legal prosecution against Automattic I would refer to be kept anonymous, where possible, in court proceedings. alternatively, you can also call the SF HRC at : 415-252-2500, you can use the above text as a starting point for this as well, next you want to fill out the form for the NYC DHR (new york city department of human rights) here : https://www.nyc.gov/site/cchr/about/report-discrimination.page for company you wanna put : Automattic and/or Tumblr for address you wanna put : 770 Broadway, New York, NY 10003 for phone number you wanna put : (646) 513-4321 and for category of discrimination you can put : Discriminatory harassment and basis of discrimination you can put : Gender; Gender identity you can then use a similar script on the written section of the form. when describing a specific incident, you should attach as many screenshots and links as possible! (for links, include both a live link and an archival link, so take a capture with the internet archive and have that as an alternative, incase a staff member gets petty.) this should only take a few minutes at most, and it helps alot! you can fill this out if you are a minor, and you dont have to be a us resident, please please take the time!!! and, just to clarify because there are many posts going around that are confused about this tumblr moved offices to san francisco recently, so their main HQ is at : 60 29th St, San Francisco, CA 94110 they DO still have an office in new york city, and thats where their PREVIOUS HQ was, the address is : 770 Broadway, New York, NY 10003

debates about queer representation are tired even if they do express real pain & frustration but i am entering the chat to say that i have literally never seen my relationship to being gay portrayed in media anywhere. my relationship to being gay is that when i figured out i wasn't straight i was like, immensely relieved & delighted, & then when i spent the next two years wanting to kill myself constantly & thinking i was responsible for every bad thing on earth i was still like, "but at least i'm gay. like, thank god for that. at least i'm gay, that's going for me. everything else about me may be bad but at least i'm gay." life-saving, to be real with you. even now when i am having a bad day i'm like, "well, i'm still gay! so that's good!"
mostly my point here is that there is a vast expanse of feelings that people have about being gay, and it sucks that we have relatively few narratives for what coming out might feel like or how it might work when it is, still, a momentous occasion for most people, but it's also an invitation to reflect on how fuckin great it is to be gay. if people were mean to you about it i will break their knees. being gay is awesome & i love you

Some people really just do not understand the concept of legal precedent do they? I feel like a solid 30-40% of the awful takes I see on this site could be avoided if people knew the most basic shit about their own legal systems.
#“why can't we just do x horrible thing to these bad people instead?”#“why can't we allow a violation of bodily autonomy in this one very specific circumstance?"#even if that were ethical (which it isn't) that doesn't change the fact that YOU ARE SETTING A LEGAL CASE PRECEDENT#THAT CAN BE USED AS AN ARGUMENT IN ANY TRIAL GOING FORWARD and WILL be weaponised against a marginalised group#did anyone hear about that one case in the usa where a lady wanted to design websites for peoples weddings#but wanted to exclude gay couples from her services and she had to take it to trial because it violated discrimination laws?#it seems ridiculous right? what she's going after clearly violates The U.S constitution AND Nevada's public accommodations law#WRONG. a lot went on in that case because it lasted like 7 years but#her legal team managed to find legal precedent of queer people being excluded from an event#(i think it was like a religious gathering or a parade or something I don't remember)#that gave them a leg up in the case and eventually they won#now why do we care that this nobody graphic designer won't design a website for your wedding? you can just hire someone else right#WRONG AGAIN. because now THIS case is setting even stronger legal precedent for people being excluded from services on basis of sexuality#and if you can discriminate based on sexuality then why not for other reasons like gender or race or religion#I could go on and on about the horrible possibilities opened up just by this one case but...you get the point#I'm not even usamerican!!! I just have to pay attention to shit that happens there because I have to#sigh. anyway. I'll shut up now#og

Today in my internship one of my patients was a queer elder and honestly I think that session was more therapeutic for me than it was for them. Like, they got into the room, looked at me and went "you're a dyke, aren't you?", so I was like "Well not really, but close enough though. I'm enby, actually" and they went "OMG me too". During our session they talked about the lgbt bar and club scene from like the 80's and 90's and how they personally knew some legendary figures from the time and it was absolutely awesome.
They were also technically a detransitioner, though they went from travesti (for non latines, this is how some femme aligned trans people from latinoamerica identify themselves, it's a political term) to enby, so it was awesome to see how they were still in the scene. Like I knew from my readings and people I follow online that that was a thing, but now I saw it with my own two eyes and, well, it's different. Like I saw, heard and talked to the living proof that all that TERF bullshit is a huge steaming pile of GARBAGE and I just love elder queer people so much
