Who’s Yelling?
Let me point out something that got my attention and is troubling.  I've observed how men are getting beaten down by their women.  Yep, I've witnessed while grocery shopping men pushing the cart and not being allowed by their female companions to put anything in the basket.  I told a guy when his wife walked away to put something he wanted in that cart.  "You deserve it, buddy."  The poor guy looked so nervous.  I did say it in a whisper.  His wife had crazy eyes and sorta scared me.  This is like a reversal of the movie "The Stepford Wives".  My wife is using a new method to try and control me.  I'll be telling her something and she'll all of a sudden blurt out, "Don't yell".  I'll say what are you talking about?  She'll then state again, "I'm not going to listen to your yelling."  I just respond:  What are you talking about?  It's some psychological trick.  I had another guy who said this stop-yelling hoax is a new trick his wife has been trying to use on him also.  Trust me.  I'm not even talking loudly.  Plus I don't have a hearing problem.  I told my lady to end this "Stop Yelling" scam.  I'm at a point in my life where I'm working on my zen and balancing my chi.  I've been watching Bravo's "Love w/o Borders".  I've already learned love has no expiration date!  Plus I'd never heard of the Chilean Miner maneuver.  Thank you, Bravo for being entertaining and educational.   I did discover while watching TV the other day that a new study reveals that deaf husbands are happier than normal hearing husbands.  Wow, who'd have thought that?  Whenever I'm at the store now I try and offer a few encouraging words to those men pushing the cart behind their wives.  It tears me up the look of desperation on their face.  (That poor man being forced to put a six-pack of Michelob ULTRA in his cart.  Let him have a man's beer.) I'm sure they never figured they'd be a member of the beaten man's club.  Just to show how I'm trying to be a kinder, gentler person.  When I'm talking with someone and we're finished.  I've been closing with "peace out".

The truth behind the 99 cent tag
The truth behind the 99 cent tag
Why is it when going into a grocery store, or even shopping through your favorite e-tailer, everything is priced $19.99, $49.99 or $99.99 rather than just rounding up to the next whole number? This isn’t just a coincidence, or subliminal government messaging, but actually has a psychological impact on shoppers that most people pay no mind to. This can’t actually be fooling shoppers into thinking…

when i hear "found family" in relation to an ensemble of fictional characters in media there's two different things that could be happening here.
often it's what i think of as forced family, which is like "i found myself in a situation with these people" but a key part of the trope is that, like most families of origin, they're stuck with each other and can't leave without taking extreme action. voyager's "found family" is a forced family. i'm watching m*a*s*h now and it seems that way too. in both cases there's an outside constraint where you literally cannot escape these people and so grow to love them as a result, often in a codependent or unhealthy way but you are closer to them than you will ever be to anyone who did not share this experience. you would sell some of them to satan for one corn chip but god help any outsider who tries to break you up or even understand the situation. sometimes you get lucky and there's a person or two in there that you would choose to spend every day with regardless of circumstance (but would you really? can you even tell for sure??). but also it's "i will never ever speak to you again as long as i live but i'm really bored so can you give me a ride to the 7-11 first."
meanwhile chosen family is more like star trek the next generation where they are placed in this group at random but there's no hostage element to it. any one of them could request a transfer at any time, but they never will because this community and group of people have become an inseparable part of their identity. in both cases they'd saddle up and risk their lives to save each other forever at any personal cost ("not to me, not if it's you") but forced family also contains the element of "i'll fucking do it but christ alive." not every ensemble fits into one or the other but i think it's fun to distinguish as a concept.

Civilian Gothamites realizing they can get vengeance through Sword!Robin
Gothamites figuring out if they happen to mention a rogue treating animals poorly within hearing range of sword!Robin that rogue will be in custody with at least four fractures and a concussion and Damian being completely aware that like 63% of these people are lying but it’s the only way he can get experience with the nonlethal takedowns he’s experimenting with bc everyone keeps complaining about how he treats his opponents and allies
Like he’s guiding a civilian to safety and they mention that “this would be the worst thing to happen to me today if riddler didn’t stab my fucking cat” and this civilian does not own a cat but they did own a car that was just paid off but riddler fucking crushed it with a stupid ass hot air balloon that’s shaped like a fucking question mark and Damian is aware of this bc he was the one that verified the insurance claim (but he’s been looking for a reason to punch Nygma in the throat since his last Arkham escape when he called Damian a moron)
And he also knows that if he plays along with it and says ‘as if I’d let that gaudy and tactless imbecile get away with committing such atrocities’ when prompted that he’ll get away with barely a slap on the wrist like he gets three half hearted but long lectures he’s not going to listen to and an online sensitivity training seminar he goads Tim into completing (Damian and Tim 100% try to trick each other into doing work they don’t want to do and full heartedly believe the other has no idea what they’re doing)
Bruce’s tendency for finding small crashouts at risk of becoming future rogues in Gotham and deciding they need love & supervision but what actually happens bc he’s so fucking awkward is they get almost the same amount of supervision just with like an hour of intense helicopter parenting a week but honestly besides that they just have more money and resources to do fuck shit
Tim 🤝🏾 Damian: using the manipulation tactics they learned from their mothers then later improved on with help from an assassin cult and bat/cape interrogation questioning techniques on the homies
#Both central city and gotham are referred to as crashout central and no one’s ever sure which city is being mentioned unless a cape is named#random Gotham civilians outsourcing a rogue getting their ass kicked to a middle schooler with a katana is fucking funny#Damian & Tim 100% try to trick each other into doing work they don’t like and definitely believe the other has no idea what theyre doing#Whenever damian gets benched the civilians protest until he’s back on duty#and are just generally unhelpful like ‘answer your questions?? That’s crazy I got a question for you: where’s my guy??’#Random gothamite: Batman’s so mean like free my guy 😔 he didn’t even do anything?? He’s just a little guy#Their friend visiting from out of state who’s pretty sure they saw that kid fuck up a dinosaur with no backup: 🤨 ikyfl#the loa ninja who came for a welfare check: you’re joking right???#Sword!robin#robin 5#Robin V#gothamites definitely tried to count the robins but they change names heights & costumes so often that no one’s really sure#so there’s angry!Robin nerd!Robin emo!Robin blonde!Robin and sword!Robin#but there’s also the theories of robin being an amalgamation of every child ghost in Gotham or a shapeshifter with an emo dad#only in gotham#dc civilians#Damian Wayne#Damian Al Ghul#Damian Al Ghul Wayne#dc robin#robin#dc comics#Civilian Gothamites: that polite young man!!#The bats & everyone else that knows Damian: 🤨#Damian currently using psychological warfare against scarecrow a rogue w/ a doctorate in psych and winning: dr crane?? more like dr cringe#Damian: sometimes I just get the urge to weep inconsolably not out of fear but bc I know you believe yourself to be a threat & that’s false#Insurance companies in Gotham either make so much money it’s insane or every employee has 746 hits out on them at all times

people have pointed this out before but I love how the death note jdrama highlights how needlessly cruel L is capable of being..... calling Light (and the other Kira suspects) early in the investigation to falsely accuse him of being Kira just to see how he'd react, taunting Light relentlessly while he was imprisoned and interrogated, and of course the mock execution. all while knowing no one can really stop him. the jdrama really said "btw don't forget this guy's an ASSHOLE"

abusive parent: calls me to meal
me, inside of my head: It's a trap! I'm hungry but if I do come out and eat, I'll be sitting at the table with the rest of them and they'll all get a chance to insult me, criticize my appearance, tell me what to do and start a discussion about how useless and selfish and horrible I am, I won't be able to stand it and I'll run away from the table still hungry. If I just go and grab a plate and attempt to eat it alone in my room I'll get attacked for being rude and acting like I'm too good to eat at the table and ruining the tradition of how food is supposed to be eaten and called an uncultured swine. What I need to do is wait until they've all eaten and dispersed from the table and then I have to sneak into the kitchen and grab whatever they've left and then I can eat it in my room.
me: umm… I'm not hungry yet?
abusive parent: Oh you're not hungry now? After I made all this food you're now not hungry???? What did you eat and when? Why did you eat when you knew there was going to be food made? Why are you so selfish? You did this just to piss me off!!! I don't care if you're not hungry, you need to come here and eat after I've made food!! Why do you always do this?? I slave away making food and you're just going to not be hungry after I did all that? Come here thIS INSTANT, you're GOING TO EAT IT!

[chemistry] it's not a word that actors [use]. but you must endeavor a little bit to try and fall in love, in whatever that capacity is. and andrew is a very easy person to fall in love with. he's kind, generous, talented. we shot the film at the perfect junction in our friendship where there was a lot we didn't know about each other, but there was mutual admiration and respect. and a similar sense of humor. (...) yeah, it felt fizzy when we were acting. especially with that first scene at the door -- it's so well-written. you feel like you're dancing through the scene, you can go in loads of different ways, and if i went one way, andrew would go another. if that's what chemistry is, i was aware it was happening.

In recent years magic tricks have received attention as a means of studying psychology and neuroscience. To this end, authors (Kuhn et al 2008; Macknik et al 2008) have cited lists of psychological tendencies most often exploited by magicians to successfully deceive audiences (eg inattentional blindness and priming), but two phenomena were notably absent in both analyses, specifically the concept of accidental alignment and the Gestalt grouping principle of good continuation. These two principles, often employed in tandem, are important psychological tendencies that magicians regularly exploit. [...]
Tumblr media
These two tendencies in conjunction (the assumption of non-accidental alignment and good continuation) reinforce the perceptual `filling-in' of objects behind an occluder. The automaticity of this filling-in process is the likely reason behind its common exploitation by magicians. Beyond the rope trick, other examples include the famous Chinese Linking Rings illusion (wherein a set of seemingly solid metal rings are linked together) and almost any illusion where an object like a spoon is bent, supposedly via psychokinesis. In the case of the rings, subtle methods of presentation facilitate the audience's faulty perception that the rings continue unbroken through the magician's hand. In most spoon-bending illusions, the fulcrum of the bend is covered by the fingertips, so the illusion only works if the audience assumes that the pieces of the spoon on either side of the hand were attached and continuous to begin with. [...]
The `Zig Zag Girl' illusion, developed by Robert Harbin in the 1960s, employs a visual stimulus that makes the perception of good continuation irresistible. In this illusion, an assistant's midsection appears to be removed from her body. To facilitate the perception of continuity between the assistant's exposed head, hand, and foot, an abstract silhouette of the assistant is painted on the exterior of the box (see figure 3a). This imposes a specific interpretation of the orientation of the assistant's body within the box. With the silhouette removed (figure 3b), it is much easier to generate an alternative interpretation that can account for placement of the assistant's extremities. In this case, the assistant could position her body sideways within the contraption while still placing her face, hand, and foot through the openings. The availability of this alternative interpretation renders the illusion much less compelling.
