PSYCHOTIC CHARACTER SHOWDOWN
Tumblr media
[ID: A tournament style bracket with pictures and names for 16 characters facing off in groups of 8. It’s:
Sam Winchester (Supernatural) vs Will Graham (Hannibal)
John Ward (Faith: The Unholy Trinity) vs Satoko Hojo (Higurashi: When They Cry)
Lenora Vulvokov (Russian Doll) vs Stefan Butler (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch)
Jonathan Sims (The Magnus Archives) vs Stede Bonnet (Our Flag Means Death)
Gregory House (House M.D.) vs Stanford Pines (Gravity Falls)
Senua (Hellblade) vs Doug Rattmann (Portal)
Nina Sayers (Black Swan) vs Joan of Arc (Real Life)
Jinx (Arcane) vs Harrowhark Nonagesimus (The Locked Tomb) END ID]
I haven’t seen a psychosis based bracket and wanted to see some of our favorites fight it out. Characters were chosen for psychosis as a symptom whether due to neurological issues, lack of sleep, trauma, schizophrenia or related disorders, or so forth. Most of these characters are canonically in some way psychotic so it’s not who is the most psychotic (which is why Ice King is not an option :() but who has the most psychotic swag.
And yes, before people accuse me of trivializing a horrible disorder, i’ve been diagnosed schizoaffective for 3 years now symptomatic for 4, hospitalized multiple times, etc.
Individual polls for round one coming out soon

I see this a lot in leftist circles but mental illness, trauma and abuse will exist with or without capitalism, your “mental illness is a social phenomenon” might be true for your depression and your anxiety but I beg all of you to think about psychotic people, systems and people with personality disorders when you make posts like that. It might be true that we wouldn’t be labeled as mentally ill but we would still need resources to help us cope, there’s still something we would need help coping with and you should focus on making that help available and accessible and free of bigotry for all of us instead of living in a “no mentally ill people” pseudo progressive eugenicist dream.

your reminder that the “psychotic-disordered person is actually just able to see all the magic portals and has powers!” trope is not only overused but can also actively harm ppl w delusions especially

hello psychotic tumblr! im a soon to be student of speech language pathology (as in applying to grad school for it as we speak) who is also schizoaffective. so a huge interest of mine is language and disorganized and disordered language in mental illness. so i made this research project! i’ll put the link in the reblogs because you know how tumblr is with links. but its looking at how different psychotic disorders (schizophrenia vs major depression with psychotic disorders for example) present different aspects of disorganized speech (slow speech versus word salad or nonsense sentences) and seeing what major data patterns come up. if you are psychotic PLEASE take a minute and take it for me and then pass it around. thank you so much!

About to be the mean scary schizo: care about psychotic people. care about schizophrenic and schizospec people. do it. care about us even if it doesnt affect you. our resources are important because theyre resources for us and not just because others can benefit. we have value as psychotic people. yall have got to start fucking caring about us because right now the only people caring are other psychotic people

i seriously hate when nonpsychotics use the phrase "voices in my head" like those are called thoughts. what you're doing is thinking. shut up.

I'm having a really rough day in regards to my psychosis :( today is going to be a self care day
If any other schizo-spec or psychosis-spec people are reading this, you are more than your bad days
You deserve proper care and to be taken seriously
Take a moment to do something for yourself, even if it's just a kind word

i swear i’m posting this question everywhere BUT!!!
i’m moving out in one month and 9 days (yay) and the anxiety is just hitting me (not yay) and i’d like advice
i’ll be living alone in a 1 bed 1 bath townhouse that’s three hours away from home. i’ll be keeping all of my healthcare providers because i’m not moving out of state and as long as i do one in person session a year i can do telehealth for visits, which is great bc ive seen my psychiatrist for 10 years now and i refuse to leave her until she retires.
it you read my personal posts you probably know i’ve been going through it with my bipolar 1, though i did just go up on one of my meds yesterday and at least today ive felt a bit more stable so we’ll see how this goes. i also get paranoid when it gets dark and the changing of the seasons is a big trigger for psychotic symptoms episodes (though i already had one in the summer and am now on an absolute ridiculously high dose of my antipsychotics, so i hope it’s out of my system lol), and though i can rationalize with myself a lot better now, after 13 years of psychosis, it’s a hard habit to break because of how strong the connection is in my mind. basically what i’m saying is my schizoaffective disorder may be a little bit of an asshole when i move out and idk what i should and shouldn’t do
i have an urgent care 5 min from the apartment so if anything serious happens i can get medical attention easily, but as i said in my last vent post, even though im struggling a lot, and my brain very much wants me to give up, im so so so close to living the way young me wanted to: on my own while working on my double major in history and education bachelors degree, get my masters, and going on to be a high school history teacher. i have a required archeology course and that’s making me so happy i can’t breathe because before i wanted to teach i wanted to be an archeologist. my inner child is having a field day. i’ve wanted that for so long and it’s so close i can almost touch it. i want to get better, i want to breathe easy because this has been a hell of ride and i want to make my childhood self proud. i want him to see that i’ve pushed through, even if im still struggling a lot.
if you’ve experienced mental illness of any kind really, but especially if you’re schizo/psychosis-spec or bipolar 1 or moved out during a difficult episode, and you moved out and had to live alone (i won’t have roommates), can you reply to this post and give me some advice? im working with my therapist during our sessions to build a safety plan and building skills to help self-soothe but i would love to hear from people who have a similar story as mine, especially when it comes to dealing with day-to-day life instead of just while in crisis

I have such an intense fear of lapsing back into psychosis that I'll probably freak myself out and lapse back into psychosis. Anyone else caught in this loop?

you probably know someone with psychosis. you’ve probably had classmates from school or college, a coworker, maybe even a family member who has a psychotic disorder. and you probably don’t know it. like im a university student, i study full-time, i live by myself in campus housing, i have friends and talk to people in my classes, and a few weeks ago i had a psychotic episode (again). to most people, it would absolutely seem like nothing happened.
this is the reality of a lot of people with psychosis. your loved ones, people you see every day, who have a disorder or disability or maybe just a brief experience with these symptoms. it’s not visible. it’s not usually talked about or brought up. we’re not monsters or murderers or evil, we literally just exist, and the social stigma contributes to a ridiculous amount of harm. so stop with the jokes and examine your biases, please, because you dont know who you’re hurting with them.
and a side note: if you really believe that you could "spot" a psychotic person by looks and actions, think critically about *why* you believe that, *what* you think a psychotic-disordered person looks like. is it a stereotype based on social stigma? is it what you’ve been told by horror fiction or some comedy made in poor taste? do you know statistics or facts about psychosis?
