Project Valkyrie: Side Story

"I don’t want to talk to you,” Mirror said, not even looking at the woman behind her as she walked down the hallways. 

“Please, Mirror, I really need to talk to you,” pleaded Cello, practically chasing Mirror down the hallway. 

The gray ocean churning outside the windows of the hallway perfectly reflected Mirror’s mood. She was breathing hard, but there was nary an expression on her face. Trying so hard to be calm but failing miserably.

Cello’s footsteps raced across the tile floors, sometimes in front of Mirror sometimes behind her, circling like a hurricane around a resilient town. Mirror’s footsteps were the same soft, even cadence that all the way down the hall until she finally got to her room. She had a conscious, though, or maybe she was still insecure. There was no way that she would just slam the door in Cello’s face. Something needed to happen, or she would never relax. 

“I trust you, Cello,” Mirror said as she finally turned to face Cello. The girl’s face was more expressive than Mirror had ever seen it. Pleading, scrunching, grasping at any last chance she had at a relationship, “You said that we were friends and then you went behind my back and said that I was weak, incompetent, a hazar-”

“That’s not what I meant, Mirror! I swear, I just want to protect you. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry that I realize how amazing you are. I should have seen your potential.”

Something bubbled behind Mirror’s eyes, but she didn’t want to cry. Cello thought that she was strong, who knows what she would do if she stopped thinking of Mirror like that. 

“I didn’t need protection, Cello, I never did. I didn’t have poteition or a chance, I just needed you to trust me, and you didn’t. You were the only one that I had, and you could even do that. I thought we were going to be partners, Cello, but you betrayed me!” Mirror choked. 

Maybe something clicked at that moment because Cello balled up her fists and looked down as she spoke. It seemed like she couldn’t look Mirror in the eyes. It seemed like she couldn’t stand her own guilt and frustration. It seemed like it was that word “partners”, that brought something out of her. 

“You’re right, Mirror, and I was wrong. Back then, I couldn’t feel what you were feeling, and I was stupid. I was blind and I didn’t see, or maybe even I tried not to see how hard you were pushing. You’re better than me, Mirror. You try so hard. Back then, I didn’t respect you, and that’s why,” Cello sobbed without tears, but with pain. Her face was so hot, some water would have felt nice, but none came, “-I think that’s why I lost you.”

Tears started to flow down Mirror’s face as she turned and opened the door to her room, “That’s right, you have lost me.”

A long time passed after that, if time even passed at all in the base. Mirror sat in her room with nothing really to do. She had just come there to escape Cello. So she started knitting herself a pair of gloves to wear in the winter, it was finished within an hour. Then she paced and listened to music, then she worked on her quilt, and Mirror paced some more. Metal walls couldn’t be covered by fluffy rugs and paintings. She was an animal, and something would break if she stayed in her cage. 

Abruptly, Mirror opened the door and stepped out of her room, intending to go get a hot meal or something. However, as Mirror stepped into the hall, she saw something that made her pause. It was Cello, sitting beside her door. Her knees were in her chest, and her head was between them. Her short hair had never looked so unkept, and Mirror had never known Cello to be a girl who could spend more than 30 minutes without training in some way. 

Mirror wanted to walk away and get her food, but… Had anyone ever put that much effort into their relationship with her? Had anyone ever tried that hard to be with her? Staring at Cello’s miserable form by her door Mirror sighed. It was the insecurity, she thought, or maybe the childhood neglect. But, she sighed again, there was something. 

“Do you want to go get dinner?” Mirror asked, kneeling before her depressed friend?

Cello looked up and there was a look of joy on her face that had maybe never been there before. But, there was also some hesitation. As if she had thought all hope was lost. 

“Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you again.”

Mirror laughed for perhaps the first time that day, “Then don’t.”

“Okay, Mirror, I promise never again. I’ll trust you this time, I swear.”

So because I've been flopping so hard when I try to write novels, I've outlined a novella that I can write quickly over Winter Break. I think the shorter story will make it so that I don't get bored and will also get me a much needed sense of accomplishment. I've literally written more than 20 chapters for one novel but because it's nowhere near done I've just lost motivation.

Anyway, this is a scene that takes place sometime after the novella ends. I've written it to be so dramatic, but the two characters only knew each other for like three days before the betrayal happened, so I'm not sure why they're in tears. Whatever, though, they're endgame, so I'm glad they were able to make up 😅

Project ARC remake 14

Ozpin: So, how was his first day?

Glynda: *sigh* He didn't want to hurt his adversary and dodged for the entire fight. His aura control is perfect but...

Ozpin: *sigh* No sign of his aura coming back?

Glynda: ... His physical wounds are healing. For now, that's what matters most...

Qrow: *sitting next to her* Amber is still recovering at the hospital, once she wakes up, we will finally know who attacked them. Maybe that could give us a clue on how to fix- i mean, how to heal him?

Glynda: *sigh* i hope so... *Looking at her scroll* Beside that, he seems to be adjusting correctly to his team. *Looking back at Ozpin* Him being partnered up with Mss Schnee wasn't just a hazard, was it?

Ozpin: In all honesty? It was. I know how the SDC and the Project ARC are both linked, but believe me when i said giving him more visibility wasn't my intention. I personally would prefer if James didn't know about Jaune. At least, not until the festival.

Qrow : I have to say, giving him Arc as his last name wasn't really the best idea to hide him from Atlas.

Glynda: *sigh* He only accepted this one... And mine, though that would have been an even worse giveaway... *Small smile* I'm just happy he thought of our real name first.

Qrow: It does mean that deep down, he's still your brother.

Nora: *looking at Jaune from afar* Hey Ru, don't you think Jaune looks a lot like Professor Goodwitch?

Ruby: *eating cookies* Mh?

Nora: Like, beside the hair color, they kinda have the same... I guess aura? And the way she acted with him-

Yang: What, you think they are secretly siblings? Why would they hide it?

Blake: *looking up from her book* ... Maybe it's not a choice? Or maybe we are reading in too deep? Besides, it's not really what's the weirdest about him.

Yang: Oh oh~ already sizing him up are ya?

Blake: *slightly Blushing* Not in that sense! I meant his Aura. And not only that, but the way he speaks.

Ruby: *gulping down the cookies* Ah~. Couldn't that just be him being a bit... Uh... *Look at Nora*

Nora: ... What?

Ruby: N-nothing!

Nora: You meant autistic?

Ruby: D-didn't want to assume!

Nora: *shrug* It's fine, but i don't have it. Or at least, i never got a diagnostic. *Point to Ren* He does.

Yang: But the way you act-

Nora: I've been living in the street for as long as i can remember. Social norm aren't really something i could learn.

Yang: Oh shit, i'm so sorry, i-

Nora: *shrug* Eh, not the first gal to make that mistake. And certainly not the last.

Ruby: S-so, what do you think for Jaune?

Nora: I don't think it's that.

Blake: Really?

Nora: He still understands most social queues and even apologized for his actions during the match. I don't really want to assume anything, but... It's more like he is broken.

Yang: What? Like mind break like in the book Blake's reading?

Blake: Hey!

Nora: No, more like... A part of him is missing? He did say he lost his memory, so it might be that.

Ruby: *sigh* i hope he gets better...

Jaune: *looking at the dino nuggies in his plate* ... What are those?

Pyrrha: *awkwardly laughing* I uh... Didn't know what you'd like so i just took the first thing that grabbed my attention. Eh eh...

Jaune: ... (Glynda did tell me i should eat even though i do not require it. Something about fitting in and being able to use the energy to better heal). *Look at the t-rex looking one* I guess i can try them.

Ren: *drinking tea with Weiss* If you want, i could try making some food i learned to make during my travel?

Jaune: That would be nice.

Weiss: *looking at Ren* Do you perhaps know how to bake cakes?

Ren: I sadly only learned to make outdoor cuisine, but i'm more than willing to try.

actually curious now after that very cool comic post about hiring new agents (i don't want to spoil op on story just in case but 👍); how did everyone's first agent die, if you remember?

mine was a Heart of Aspiration-insanity-related death; she was the only agent with the white weapon that day, so they were stuck insane, and i'd stopped reading the Manager's Handbook just before the part about insane agents getting 'retired' at the end of day. i don't remember her name but she's the sole reason i started buckling down on the technicalities and focusing on making sure my agents were well protected against insanity hiccups

My two hyperfixations right now are Ensemble Stars and Project Sekai, so of course I had to think about what enstars and pjsekai characters I would want to see interact. And of course I made a list that has been sitting in my Notes app for God knows how long…

Units I want to see interact:

WonderlandsxShowtime and RYUSEITAI: There has been FANART of this for Gods sake (here and here) BECAUSE THEY ARE LITERALLY EACH OTHERS COUNTERPARTS. Like they’ve got the confident leader, the hyperactive group member(s), That One Guy, and the only semi-normal ones! I want to see Emu, Tetora, and Sengoku practicing poses together, Rui studying Kanata like a lab specimen, and Nene and Midori looking at each other, exhausted, saying “you too?” “sigh…yeah…”

Vivid Bad Squad and Knights: MY TWO FAVORITE UNITS INTERACTING!! YAY!! EVERYONE CHEERS!!! Akito would be even more exhausted now that he has more idiots to take care of…He would fucking HATE Leo…and I CRAVE Kohane and Suou interactions. I think Ritsu would probably use Toya as a lap pillow, he’d probably like the fact Toya would be too scared to move. Also I want to see An gay panicking over Arashi. I will accept no substitutes.

More More Jump and Ra*bits: EEK EEK EEK!! This would be so adorable like I just realized how similar Nazuna and Airi are…like they’re both energetic and responsible tsundere types (also did you know tsundere autocorrects to reindeer??) and Tomoya and Minori would be so precious…Shizuku would LOVE the Ra*bits members, she’d probably have so much fun playing with them. It would just be the cutest most wholesome group interactions ever.

Leo/Need and Trickstar: THEY ARE LITERALLY EACH OTHERS COUNTERPARTS OH MY GOD

Characters I want to see interact:

Hiyori Tomoe (Eden) and Mizuki Akiyama (Nightcord At 25:00): None of you understand how deeply I CRAVE this. I would commit FELONIES for this. I would murder someone or give someone toe curling backshots for JUST ONE HIYOMIZU INTERACTION. I want to see these two girlbosses girlboss together. They’re both mischievous transgender (With Hiyori it’s just a headcanon for Mizuki it’s practically confirmed) gremlins who love shopping and tormenting their two loyal servants (Ena and Jun) who they are most definitely in love with. (And Ena and Jun are probably trans too tbh) I want them to shop and try on clothes together. THAT IS ALL PLEASE

Rinne Amagi (Crazy:B) and Akito Shinonome (Vivid Bad Squad): YAY REDHEAD TO REDHEAD COMMUNICATION!!! I feel like Rinne would see through Akito’s “good boy” persona IMMEDIATELY and would be having the time of his life teasing Akito and trying to make him drop the persona. Akito would probably either try to keep up the persona to the end out of spite or drop it immediately to yell at Rinne. Either way it would be hilarious and a repeat of the AkiMizu interactions.

Sena Izumi (Knights) and Ena Shinonome (Nightcord At 25:00): Bro…they are literally gender bent versions of each other…Like come on. Two tsunderes who are hell bent on looking good at all times, are crushing on transgender gremlins (Leo and Mizuki) and are extremely fixated on social media and makeup?? Like yes please?? I want them to shop for makeup together, shit talk everyone, Ena force Izumi to take her social media pictures for her, and see them share skincare routines. I am BEGGING for this I DON’T CARE WHOSE DICK I HAVE TO SUCK PLEASE

Natsume Sakasaki (Switch) and Rui Kamishiro (WonderlandsxShowtime): I mean…I don’t think I have to explain this one…

Arashi Narukami (Knights) and Shizuku Hinomori (More More Jump): I would KILL for these two to model together and try on cute outfits. Arashi would get extremely worn out by having to watch over Shizuku 24/7 but would find her too precious to leave alone and honestly same. I imagine it to be a lot like when Mafuyu and Honami had to babysit Shizuku during the 2024 April Fools event. And to top it off, them as a duo would give everyone gay (and straight) panic. An would spontaneously combust with just one look.

Subaru Akehoshi (Trickstar) and Saki Tenma (Leo/Need): Honestly Trickstar and Leo/Need have so much in common! Their uniforms both suck!! (/j but not really) Subaru and Saki are both the energetic golden retrievers of the group, and I would LOVE to see them both interact, especially with characters like Shio and Midori. Just little wholesome bundles of sunshine!

Kaoru Hakaze (UNDEAD) and Mafuyu Asahina (Nightcord At 25:00): I’m just imagining Kaoru flirting with her (DW MAFUYU IS CANONICALLY 17/18 SO IN THIS AU SHES 18) and Mafuyu being completely unaffected by it…Kaoru would probably know something was up with her and be freaked out, similar to Emu, but would keep on regardless

Midori Takamine (RYUSEITAI) and Nene Kusanagi (WonderlandsxShowtime): Part 3 of They Are Literally Each Other! They are both the only normal members of their groups with crushes on their group leaders (POLYSHOW AND MIDOCHIA FOR THE WIN!!) and are both cynical and have a love for mascots! Him and Nene would go to the arcade together and absolutely EMPTY the crane machines. They would also play video games together and he would probably just backseat her lol

Kuro Kiryu (AKATSUKI) and Kohane Azusawa (Vivid Bad Squad): Like imagine how wholesome this would be. Kohane would probably be intimidated by Kuro at first, but she would warm up to him pretty quick. Kuro, on the other hand, would probably think she’s adorable and precious and treat her kinda like a small animal. THEY WOULD BE THE ONLY DUO EVER and honestly would work as a ship…Think about it…

HiMERU (Crazy:B) and Emu Otori (WonderlandsxShowtime): OK OK HEAR ME OUT Emu would probably be like a toned down, less assholey Rinne in the sense she would wear HiMERU down to no end but he would kinda subconsciously take care of her, like an older brother with a hyperactive little sister!

Mika Kagehira (Valkyrie) and Minori Hanasato (More More Jump): OH MY GOD TWO SILLIES WITH AUTISM AND EXTREMELY VISIBLE CRUSHES!! OH MY GOD!!

Leo Tsukinaga (Knights) and Kanade Yoisaki (Nightcord at 25:00): Two mentally ill composers with savior complexes meet…what could go wrong…They would probably like each other and compose songs together, and I think Leo would try to force Kanade to go outside and she would try to reject him in the nicest way possible but would just go along with it in the end…And then she would pass out and Leo would dump cold water on her or something (because he’s STUPID and I love him)
