did a little sketch yesterday that i really liked and tried to get it done today just so i got literally anything to post- but i fell into the trap of 'making sketches to elaborate and thus really stiff and non fun' (for me), ... soooooo .. im redoing the whole thing

but the idea was a mummy ganondorf for my (yes still existing) totk rewrite; i wanted to make him more scary looking and also emphasize just how horrid it must be to be kept in between life and death by having your heart grabbed by a cold and vengeful magical hand for thousands of years (in this case the ancient queen .. which i also tried to sketch despite not showing up aside from her dissolving hand)

the spell starting to fail and his body being more damaged in some parts (jaw being only the bones left for example) and his chest open from being slowly eaten up by the queens magic, the ribs contorting around it like its a gravitational pull- sounds cooler than it looks bc this sketch did not work out, so im saving the details for the .. hopefully, better version

hilarious that with each new day that passes a new bit of dirt from JD Vance's past gets discovered and plastered over the internet...it's almost as if this is why presidential campaigns have always announced their running mates well before the convention...so that if glaring issues with a candidate came to light quickly there would be time to replace them on the ticket before they were officially locked in...it's almost as if certain things in political campaigns were done for a reason, donald...because the very same critical failures had happened before...but no i'm sure you and your guys attempt to recreate a fantasy version of history while ignoring all the reasons that history was a disaster will work this time...because you are built different and the 10000th time trying fascism will work like a charm...

I think before we try to discuss the gayness of historical figures, we do need to ask where we locate gayness in someone's life.

Is it having the attraction? Or is it kissing and having sex with someone of the same sex? Is it being in a same-sex relationship?

If we couple it exclusively to being intimate with another person, well then you are going to have a hard time saying much about historical people without a public scandal or very revealing personal correspondence to know.

Is a gay person only gay if they've had a relationship ?

The contentious follow up question to "historians will say they were friends" is "what if they were?"

What if someone is attracted to their friend but doesn't necessarily act on it for a whole myriad of reasons? Does that invalidate their expression of those feelings?

And I know this isn't an uncommon gay experience because there used to be all sorts of jokes in LGBT circles about being in love with your friend who you aren't sure would ever return that affection. There are still jokes about having "I'm jokingly flirting unless you're into it" banter with friends.

Having a secret relationship with a friend who goes on to get married is the whole premise of a Chappel Roan song. And that's not even taking into account historical pressure to marry for economic or political reasons instead of attraction.

And when historians say "we can't say that this person would have identified this way" it can also mean that this person may have never acted on an internal attraction that we can nevertheless see in the ways that they try to explain their feelings to themselves or others. They simply may have never understood that as an option.

Tldr: I don't think we can have a meaningful conversation about whether historical figures were gay without talking about the wide variety of gay and bisexual experiences with friendship and attraction.

Jason Todd is a damn good example of how superheroes can’t be parents. I’m not saying heroes should be forbidden from having children, but the moment you do, you choose one or the other. You either cease to be a hero or you must fundamentally fail your child.

Because that’s the basis of being a parent—choosing your child. Day in and day out, no matter what. There is no bigger picture, no greater good. Between a bus full of people and your kid, your kid has to count on you to be the one person in the world who would let the bus fall. A hero can’t do that. A hero shouldn’t do that.

Jason Todd so desperately wanted Bruce, his father, the one person he needed to let the bus fall. But Bruce had chosen “hero” two decades ago, and there was no room for Jason Todd, son. So Jason Todd, Robin died a martyr with no one left to carry the cause. An unfortunate casualty. He came back as the only thing left, the only version of Jason Todd that a clown didn’t beat to death in warehouse in Ethiopia. Jason Todd, son. And there was no father. He kept reaching and reaching and there should have been something to meet him. But Bruce Wayne was a hero. And Jason Todd was a son.
