the thing is!!!! i intentionally priced it sorta high (still below what i paid for it) because i had it up for trade (i figure there was a chance someone with the machine i want was wanting to upgrade to a bigger size) and this guy wants to buy mine when there are like 15 other ones in our area that are way cheaper priced. im like whuh. why mine.

im hoping its just because i have it listed with a comparatively thorough description and a video of it working etc and not that this guy is tryig to scam me some how. im so weirded out.

RedNote is dangerous. I just want to sit here and practice my Chinese lmao. It has this chatbot and I know I know y'all know I hate genAI but this is the cutest crap and it's sooooo good for my studying, too. Dangerous app is dangerous. A stranger also complimented my dog and asked me what breed he was and I had to spend five minutes looking up dog breeds cause all I knew already in Chinese were Golden Retriever, Corgi, and I just learned Pomeranian a few days ago, none of which apply to my probably-a-pit-bull-beagle-mix pupper.

Anyway.

This has been a major distraction today lmao.

I'm honestly very disappointed in rusty quill for that better help sponsorship on the last magnus protocol episode. I understand if the show can't be made on just the kickstarter and patreon money but better help is a shit company that has been known to sell their user's sensitive health information long before the ftc literally fined them for it. No amount of money should be worth advertising such a company to your fans. Vetting sponsors is common practice and literally one google search on rq's part should have prevented this. Shameful

so big ol drama from work is the other week a lady brought in a large framed map. it was in very poor condition, water damage, dead bugs inside the glass, apparently a wasp nest on the back of the frame?? cool cool sure and she says she wants it scanned and idk restored. i wasn't here when she brought it in, but allegedly she claimed it was from 1850.

it was a map of the original layout of my hometown as a little frontier town. in the corner were the signatures of the people who created it, and it specifically said "information compiled by" soandso et al so immediately i clocked no it's not original original from 1850 or they wouldn't be "compiling" information

obviously my little map slut brain is enchanted and i simply must know everything i must identify any still remaining structures (uhm none except the cabin this map has been housed in for 50+ years, tho the cabin is not in its original location). so i'm comparing i'm contrasting i'm desperate to know the provenance of this map that i am sure is not from 1850. i feel very strongly that the woman who brought it in is a shit archivist because she had the date wrong and there were bees in it. so i take a picture of the signatures and look up the people on familysearch to get a rough estimate of how old. it's hard to confirm who's who and i need backup so i post the picture of the signatures on the local history facebook group and am like "hey who knows about these guys from this map" and get a little more information. older than i thought! pre-1900 at least, but not by much

i also receive a direct message from the woman who brought it in. she said she had brought it in to be scanned as a surprise for the bicentennial (or something) celebration and please do not post any more images. her message included a smiley face but gave off incredibly aggressive vibes. she personally texted my boss about the incident and on the following monday he gave me a stern talking to about how i ruined the surprise and broke a customer's trust and we don't own anything that comes into the shop and can't just post things online
