Taking advantage of me having gotten back my spoons after the long shifts at work and the anniversary of "Reign Storm", I present you the first chapter of this baby!

I'm still undecided if I'll make it a series with singular events or if I'll narrate it fully, we'll see how it goes... 🤔

Too Late to Save Them: Frozen in Time Offshoots: Vlad

Set after this prompt

If Daniel hasn’t come back out, he can stay in the zone for all he cares. Vlad resigns as mayor. It doesn’t matter anymore. Goes back to his manor in Wisconsin. A month goes by, and he has a jolt of guilt and attempts to search the ghost zone for Danny. He’s made a lot of enemies, so he has no luck. Goes back home, tries to wash his hands of the whole ordeal. Shuts down the MADDIE program. 

Months go by. He’s lonely. He’s tried to go back to being a mind controlling villain, but it doesn’t really. . . do anything for him anymore. 

He wallows. 

Then;

It was The Nasty Burger that did this. Why are they still operating? 

He’s not going to shut them down the legal way, no. His frustration, his rage, his sorrow fuel him as he systematically destroys every and all Nasty Burger Restaurant. Messes with the lives of every stockholder and worker. Anyone involved with The Nasty Burger and it’s Nasty Sauce. 

It soothes him for a while, but. . . 

He’s so lonely. 

Where was Daniel? Had he really. . . 

Something in Vlad snaps. 

Maddie had DIED.

She was gone.

He was a scientist. He could bring her back.

It isn’t working. He has some of Maddie’s DNA, but it. won’t. take! 

It’s incomplete. 

Fails.

He throws some of his own DNA in.

He works on it in a haze, a year going by with the outside world passing him. 

Failure. Failure. Failure.

He can’t stop his obsessive spiral. He needs this to succeed. Needs her back. 

Needs at least a PART of her back.

He stays in his ghost form; his human side needs to eat, needs to sleep.

His ghost side will need to rest, but it will wait.

This has to work.

The infant is alive, stable, floating in an artificial womb. 

All of the machines give the same output. 

The experiment is a success. 

He sits in a stupor.

Collapses.

He checks on her often. This is their child. His and Maddie’s.

He begins researching how to care for a child. How to raise a child. 

A child.

A daughter.

She’s ready. 

He gently removes her from the container.

She cries at the change of temperature.

He cleans and wraps her in a warm blanket.

Madeline is his whole world. Vlad has someone who loves him in return. 

The fractured part of Vlad’s being begins to heal. 

He is able to mourn Maddie’s passing, mourn the friends he had lost, and their children that he had been antagonistic with. 

He had been a fool.

But little Madeline was here, and he needed to do right by her. 

She gets sick at three months old; she’s not exactly a clone, but his halfa DNA gave her trouble. He had to make them both invisible and sit in the ghost zone so she could get better. 

He does a few tests. 

She’s not a halfa- she might get some of his powers, might not. Very unlikely. He would have to keep a close eye on her to make sure she was healthy and safe. 

No matter. He would do anything and everything to keep her safe. 

His daughter, his dear one,

Gimmie a Danny and Damian twins au, but not one where they're all gushy gushy and huggy huggy about the fact that they're reunited.

I want one, where they HATE and try to KILL EACH OTHER. Where they're extremely fucked up in their relationship with one another, but can't kill the other because Taila hoped that they could get along.

They spew poison at each other, inflict pain on each other as easy as BREATHING and would leave the other while heavily injured while saying that they could take care of themselves.

I want them to be near mortal-enemies wrapped up in the bodies of two highly-competent and powerful 14 year olds who cannot give a fuck about each other, has a fleeting thought of killing the other on the best of days but doesn't because of their dear mommy Taila.

Then force them to interact with each other after a long period of separation. I don't give a flying FUCK how you manage to do it, perhaps Danny has to run because his parents vivisected him, perhaps the Nasty Burger explosion couldn't be reversed because Clockwork said no and Danny is torn or perhaps Vlad brings him to Gotham for a gala (either redeemed or not redeemed Vlad), etc, etc.

Force these two children who fucking HATE each other under the same roof, make them interact, make them watch each other interact and make comments about it. Maybe even make an unstable Danny try and KILL Damian, but is stopped by the batfam, or maybe make it that Danny can't even bring himself to kill Damian because he's (discounting Talia) the only family he has left.

Maybe even (if you go the Nasty Burger/Dead Fenton fam au) make Danny hate Bruce Wayne's fucking GUTS because this man is trying to replace his dead father (even though Bruce IS his biological father) and hates him even MORE because he looks so similar to Jack's face that he's literally torn whenever he sees him. Make it that he never stays in the same room as Bruce whenever he's not in mask, make it that he tells Bruce TO HIS FACE that he hates the man for trying to replace his dead FUCKING dad and that he will NEVER accept him as one, biologically related or not.

Maybe even make him not like the batfam either just for the fact that they associate with both Bruce and Damian.

(I just remembered about that one post I saw, but BOY is this ramble gonna get even WORSE for dear old Danny. Though this part isn't really necessary could just read the on top bit lol)

Maybe they even find a way to take away his ghost side, and Bruce (With or without Talia) say that it's for the best for him, and Danny? Danny just fucking BREAKS. DOWN. He's full-on crying and screaming at Bruce and maybe has to be held back by the other batkids or not, or maybe he's just fulling on trying to hit Bruce and Bruce either dodges or just takes it.

Saying how fucking DARE he take away his ghost side, that was apart of him and he had NO FUCKING RIGHT to take away something so precious from him. Then Bruce could say that he doesn't need powers, he could be fully if not even more capable as a human.

And Danny just goes "You don't even get it, do you?" And Danny just cries harder because technically that was one the LAST things linking him to his parents. His DEAD parents. Sure, the accident was his fault, but phantom was created because of their portal, in their lab, in their basement.

Even worse if the reveal went RIGHT and they starting accepting how he was half ghost and trying to change their views on ghosts as a whole, only to die. Then, for some guy to just, take away something like that from him?

Maybe Danny would even say that, rip into him about how that was one of the only things linking him to his parents and even if it wasn't he didn't have the fucking right to decide what to do with HIS body.

"You never had to fucking worry about your parents not accepting you, I did. They still loved me regardless, they tried to change for me. But you wouldn't even know what that feels like, would you, you stupid fucking rich boy."

Maybe Bruce tries to sympathize with Danny about his parents, but Danny just doesn't have any fucks left to give about Bruce's life, or anyone else life in Bruce's life at all and just shuts it down or steamrolls over it. At the end of it all Danny is just a crying, shivering wreck and stares down Bruce with eyes full of HATE that tells Bruce one step closer, and he would KILL him.

Maybe then Damian (Either walks in or was there the entire time.) insults Danny over his weakness and depending on his ghost form or something, and Danny just sees fucking RED and jumps on him. No care that he's no longer half ghost, so that he means he could die more easily, no care to anyone else in that room, no care that Talia wanted both of them to get along and not kill each other.

He tries to kill Damian.

He fails miserably, of course, but he still tries. Then tries again and a fucking gain.

Then after all that he just, doesn't come out of his room, or tries to escape and leave Gotham every chance he gets. He never gets far, but he keeps trying, and he never opens up to anyone in the batfam, not even Alfred.

He's just a kid who lost everything he worked so hard for, everything he tried to hide from his biological mother and her assassin league who tried to keep whatever he had left. Now that kid is fueled by nothing but pure, revolting hatred for the people who took even that from him.

Basically like Dark Danny, but way more powerless and fully human.

The Nasty Burger Explosion still happens, and Danny is left without his friends, family, and the only teacher who ever tried to help and encourage him in school. He manages to skirt around Vlad's custody by discovering a cousin of his Dad's he'd never heard about (1). He reached out to her, crying and begging for her to take him in. To not let Vlad anywhere near him.

Needless to say, after hearing a desperate teenager call her in tears and discover that besides Danny, her cousin Jack and his family had recently died in a horrible "accident," Lois nearly upends everything to go and get Danny from a middle of nowhere town in Illinois. After talking with Clark, of course. She didn't get one word in, however, cause he heard the entire phone call from the other room, though unintentionally.

After arranging for Mama Kent to watch over a still young Jon, they drove as fast as possible to meet this boy that already had their hearts in an iron grasp. When they first lay eyes on him, they immediately want to comfort him. His black hair is a tangled mess, his eyes bloodshot and red from crying. He sits in the corner of the school secretary's office, curled up in the small seat with an overstuffed backpack clutched tightly in a trembling, white-knuckled grip. A girl with dark skin and her hair held back by a headband sits with him, but she gets up and walks over as soon as she sees them enter the office. Danny doesn't seem to notice or even look up from where he's staring at the floor tiles.

"He's been hiding here for the last few days since he called you. He hasn't gone home once except to pack the bag he has with him." The girl explains. She holds out her hand to Lois for a handshake. "Valerie. You could say I'm a... friend of his (2). I'm assuming you're the cousin?"

Lois nods solemnly. "How's he been? He wouldn't tell me why he wouldn't go with his parent's first choice of custody. I've been worried."

Valerie grimaced and looked back at Danny before looking her directly in the eyes. "I can't say much without revealing anything i shouldn't. Let's just say Vlad has an unhealthy obsession with Danny, and it's unsafe to be around him. If he trusts you, he'll be the one to tell you the rest."

Clark and Lois share a look before they both nodded.

Valerie sees their acceptance and relaxes. She'd actually been tense the entire time she'd been talking with them.

"Well, with that said, I'll be going now." She rubbed the back of her neck and looked down with a sad expression. She looked back up at Lois with a deep sigh, and only then did Lois realize that Valerie looked to have been crying recently too. Looking between both adults, she made a quiet request. "Take care of him, will you?"

This time Clark is the one who finally speaks up. "You have our word he'll be safe and cared for."

Valerie's shoulders slump with a shuttering sigh of relief. "Thank you."

Once she left, Clark and Lois slowly approached Danny and sat to either side of him. Only then did he finally look up from the tiles and see them. His eyes ghosted over Lois but immediately locked onto Clark. He stared up at him, his eyes glassy with unshed tears.

Clark shrunk his broad form down a little, concerned his build might be intimidating for the young man. "Hi there, bud." He said in a soft tone. "I'm Clark and this is Lois. We're here to pick you up."

When introductions didn't seem to get a reaction from the teen, Clark's brow furrowed further. "Something wrong?"

Danny finally blinked and quickly ducked his head back down to look at the floor. "N-No." He croaked. "Sorry. For a moment there, I thought you were-" He choked on his words and seemed to have difficulty swallowing. He was shaking, his face hidden against his knees with one of his arms braced over his head to hide even further.

When he finally managed to finish his sentence, Clark's heart shattered completely.

"I th-thought you were my dad."

Clark looked at Lois with lost, watery eyes only to see she was in the same exact predicament. She couldn't stand seeing Danny so heartbroken any longer and leaned over to wrap him in a hug, Clark soon following. After a while of shushing and murmuring words of comfort, Lois gently spoke up.

"Why don't we get your things in the car and we can get on the road."

Extracting himself from their warm hold, Danny took a deep, shuttering breath before nodding.

"Okay."

"Is there anything else we need to get from the house? You have everything?"

Gripping his bag tightly to his chest, he nodded again. (3)

"Yeah. I do."

Side Note:

(1) He found out through Tucker. He'd searched through Danny's family tree for any living relatives in case Vlad ever actually managed to kill Jack or something else happened to both his parents. He just never imagined it would be for this reason specifically.

(2) Yes, she knows Danny is Phantom now. She did not know before. She found out after she tried to pin the blame for Danny's friends and family on Phantom while Danny was in earshot, and he basically blew up at her and broke down. She's horrified and feels terrible, so don't be too hard on her. The confrontation also happened on school grounds with a bunch of other kids present, so a good majority of the student body knows now, too. If not from seeing it first hand, then by word of mouth. They're keeping it hush hush so nobody with bad intentions towards ghosts comes looking for Danny. Valerie will be the main defense against any ghosts that pop up, as well as a few other kids she trained.

(3) Before he left, Danny did disable and completely dismantle the ghost portal and translated all his parent's research into a code him, Sam, and Tucker came up with before destroying the originals as well as the entire lab itself. Natural ghost portals can still pop up in Amity Park tho, since the ghost portal kinda oversaturated the town with ectoplasm. Valerie and the kids she trained are just a precaution.

Haven't come up with a title for this one yet. I'll add it later when it pops into my head though.

Funny enough, this actually isn't what I planned to write for this prompt. It did involve Danny getting adopted into the Kent family, but there was going to be something entirely different happening. Apparently, the characters had other plans. Oh well, I'll save it for the next one, I guess. It might be a second part of this, actually. We'll see!

MEAT CURING 101

Or, everything you didn't want to know about meat curing :)

The first thing you have to know about meat curing is that it was a complete accident. Humans noticed that meat turned a bright pink color after it was smoked or certain ingredients were used in the smoking/drying/cooking process. The reason why it turned pink was because of natural nitrates found in smoke (that's what causes the pink smoke ring in BBQ meat), as well as sea salt and saltpeter. The awesome part about all of this, was that this accidental curing acted as an ancient antimicrobial that protected against C. botulinum (link to USDA FSIS food safety fact sheet), that nasty spore former that causes improperly canned foods to blow up like a balloon (also, if you find a can in your pantry that has blown up like a balloon, dO NOT CONSUME IT).

Why do humans continue to consume this cured meat. Well, it tastes pretty damn good. Go to any fast food restaurant and chances are there is a burger menu item with bacon. Or a breakfast item with ham. It just tastes GOOD. It also has that pretty pink color that stays with the meat after you cook it compared to the brown color you get when you cook uncured items. Moving away from the food quality aspects, it also helps extend shelf life of a meat product AND you have the food safety part I mentioned above. Not only does it protect against C. botulinum, but C. perfingens and L. monocytongenes as well.

How does this magical substance work??? Well, it's not magic, it's science! The protein responsible for meat color is called myoglobin.

In the middle of myoglobin, is an iron atom. What the redox state of the atom and what attaches to it affects the shape of the myoglobin, and this alters the color you see when you look at meat. So when it's just myoglobin hanging out by itself, a water molecule is attached to it and it appears purple. When oxygen attaches to the iron atom, it appears red. When the iron atom goes from a ferrous to a ferric state (basically, what happens when metal rusts), the meat appears brown. You can actually see this when you are out grocery shopping! If you see a piece of meat in a vacuum sealed bag, it appears purple. If the meat is in an over wrap tray, or in a display in a butcher counter, it looks red. When you see meat that has the discount sticker on it, it's starting to turn brown and needs to be consumed or frozen soon (That's why it was discounted. The meat is still safe to consume as long as you cook it properly and eaten that or the next day).

When you add nitrite to the mix, that's how you get the pink color change! The ancient curing methods used nitrate, but that needs to be reduced down to nitrite by a fermentation or a cure accelerator. Modern curing just uses nitrite, most commonly sodium nitrite. The sodium nitrite gets reduced to nitric oxide (this can be accelerated by adding ascorbate or erythorbate) and that binds with the meat to make nitrosomyoglobin. As the meat cooks, this creates nitrosohemochrome, which gives you the pink color!

In the US, most meat products are allowed 150ppm (parts per million, or 0.015%) according to the meat block weight. For bacon, it's a little lower at 120ppm (0.012%). Cure is very regulated in the US as well, because too much can harm humans. I remember when I was working as a quality assurance tech at a ready-to-eat (RTE) facility, I would have to weigh all the cure that production would use for the day. The weights and lot numbers of the cure would be recorded and tracked to make sure that the correct amount was used every day/night (depending on the shift). The storage was regulated as well. It could not be store above any other ingredient (so it wouldn't cause contamination if a bag opened), and it was locked up as well.

Like I mentioned earlier, modern curing used sodium nitrite (you might also see it called Sure Cure). It's normally white, but is dyed pink so it's not confused with other ingredients, like salt or sugar. Sure cure contains 6.25% nitrite, with the rest being salt. There are "natural" ingredients that can be used to cure meat, with the most common being celery powder. Cherry powder is also used as "natural" replacement for ascorbate, the accelerator mentioned above. Next time in the grocery store, check out the naturally cured bacon or ham. If the meat is pink, but the package says it is uncured, look on the back at the ingredient statement. Most likely, that product is using celery powder as its source of nitrite. The package might also say something about "no nitrites/nitrates added!". There will most likely be an asterisk next to that statement. Follow that asterisk to the bottom of the package to its partner asterisk. The statement there will probably says something along the lines to "except for nitrites/nitrates naturally found in celery powder and sea salt."

Triple Threat (DC x DP)

So, this is based slightly on this prompt I wrote! Here is the link to my DC x DP masterpost, and one of my last notfics I posted here was Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss, Godhood where Danny and Vlad try to manipulate and mansplain their way out of trouble with the JLA. So, Danny and Billy are brothers. Maybe they're twins separated at birth, but I prefer that they bonded at some other point, maybe they adopted each other after meeting on the street. Danny's parents said they didn't care he was a halfa, but their behaviour changed so much because they were utterly incapable of hiding their fear of him. He ran away. Billy was at this time, already living on the streets.

They 'come out' to each other on the same day revealing their powers out of brotherly love and unconditional trust - not as an accident. And you know what? Trans Rights! They can come out that way too. At this point, Billy is working with the justice league and Danny is spending a lot of his time in the Zone. He is the king, but mostly his job is to be a key judicial figure as the 'only dude who can pretty much beat anyone up' and has a lot of friends there. Hey, the sovereign ruler of the ghost zone was locked up for thousands of years and nothing really seemed to happen so I can't imagine he'd have a lot to do day-to-day. Actually, instead of sleeping on the streets they both spend most nights in the Zone in Danny's Haunt (though I'd imagine Billy also sleeps frequently at the watchtower because the pair of them are quasi-immortal homeless children who also somehow have fulltime jobs that pay nothing. And the watchtower has a kitchen). When I think of Danny's personality displayed as a physical location, I think it looks like a little suburban street lined with weird ghostly trees growing sentient flowers. There's a nasty burger though it's empty of employees and food; they still use it as a dining room. His actual house (ghosts don't need one but I still think Danny would have one) is moderate in size and charming. But it has defences built in, to the same absurd level as home alone or that live action scooby doo film https://youtu.be/2x7W225iC88?t=62 where there's a trapdoor under the doormat. There's a park across the road (which is always empty of cars but has a pedestrian crossing anyways) with purple grass and some plants that are only vaguely carnivorous. Every now and then, Billy helps out Danny with some magic tomfoolery in the Zone (you cannot tell me Aragon's amulets or Desiree aren't magic over and above normal ghost shenanigans). In one of Billy's first ever team missions he calls Danny as backup. He barely knows these people and he knows he won't be able to do his best hero-ing when he can't fully trust them to watch his back. Phantom doesn't end up having to do much because the JLA members are nice and trustworthy, but he is physically and visibly there. At the conclusion of the mission, following a nice orderly debriefing, Wulf comes to pick up Danny to get Walker back in line. This is a point where there are only a few JLA members, but Batman carefully adds "Brother/Twin??: King of Ghosts - The Phantom" to Shazam's file and begins investigating ecto-activity. A few years pass. Enough that Billy’s and Danny’s lives get a lot busier. Billy is doing some non-traditional school shit (I refuse to google the laws around out-of-school younger-age education in a foreign country for a city that doesn’t exist) and Danny is now working in a space agency. He obviously can’t be an astronaut because of the required physical -which he would not be able to pass - and he is busy with king stuff often enough that going into space for half a year isn’t really do-able. I think his Jack Fenton genes might kick in and he bulks out just a tad. It took him a year to be able to look at his ghost self in the mirror because he looked like Dan’s scarier big brother.

The justice league stop some evil invasion but in the process disable a giant spaceship that is now floating, untethered through their solar system. The aliens had been prepared for superman so there is artificial kryptonite meaning he cannot just punt it into the sun. They contact some space scientists to help them figure out how much of a problem this floating object will be; if it will affect future space travel attempts, if it could crash into the moon or Earth itself, if benevolent alien visitors in the future could think Earth was full of deranged murderers if they came to visit and encountered it.

Every agency they contact recommends one guy.

So, Shazam has need of his cool older twin Danny to come and help out with this problem! He is visibly thrilled and eventually admits that Daniel Nightingale (he wasn’t going to add to the prestige of his parents name or risk dragging his career down with their shenanigans) is his brother.

Only a couple of the original members remember all those years ago that Marvel has a brother they’ve met and that’s who they’re expecting when Danny arrives with his team. Of course, the magic ghost is a good option for a dicey mission. But no, it’s Danny. He does a great job and there’s a lot of content here. But after Danny and Billy leave, Batman holds a meeting to update JLA members that have only been around a few years. Apparently, Captain “the champion of magic” Marvel, and Phantom – the king of ghosts are triplets with Danny “Just A Guy” Fenton.

The Ultimate Enemy is a Disappointment (and How I'd Fix it) (Part 4)

Clockwork is one of the biggest problems with TUE. Change my mind. (Third biggest, specifically, behind Dan and the CAT).

I feel a little guilty, trash-talking fan-favourite Time Dad, but that’s okay—his character concept is really interesting, and I like him in fanon. But canon Clockwork, on the other hand...the writers fucked him up.

Writing a wise, all-knowing (or extensively foreknowing) character is challenging, and they put none of the thought required into it. They try to portray him as sympathetic in the ending--but everything that came before it accidentally implies he's negligent, morally unsympathetic and/or incompetent. And I don’t see ANYONE talking about it.

I still have some say about the Observants at the end, but there's just not as much on them. They appear less, and seem to be deliberately portrayed as incompetent, so their faults are bit more excusable.

(Like section 2, this'll be the criticisms and the fixes will be their own post. I have some very interesting ideas for Clockwork/Observant lore).

Part 4--A Wrench in the (Clock)works--The Ultimate Enemy’s failure at writing foreknowing/near-omniscient characters.

Clockwork behaves inconsistently with an all-knowing character. Rather than actively preventing Dan’s existence, he only pushes the events of Dan’s timeline along. And he makes statements/assertions in the episode that are factually wrong.

Given the quote above, and his ability to see the alternate future as he pleased, it’s openly possible that he had access to everything in both timelines, at any time he wanted in the episode, from the time window. So he could know of all the major events of The Ultimate Enemy itself in advance.

While I won’t say this with absolute certainty, I will criticise the writers for establishing this idea in the first place without putting any limitations on his character (to eliminate the possibility of complete foreknowledge). So assume that as just the upper limit. The actuality might be somewhere in the middle.

And this leaves some MASSIVE holes in the writing.

For an apparently wise/all-knowing “Master of Time”, Clockwork makes some terrible decisions.

He wants to demonstrate to the Observants that Danny “won’t grow up evil because he cheated on a test”. So he decides…to give Danny the answers (by orchestrating an “accident”), and see whether he’d cheat or not. This makes no sense and is entirely pointless (if he's as all-knowing as the episode treats him).

He should should already KNOW how his "test" will turn out. If it he didn't need it for himself, but was just trying to prove a point to the Observants, it’s still redundant. There's no reason to tempt Danny to cheat, when the response he already knows is coming won’t prove his point.

If Danny was going to come to the idea of cheating on his own, all Clockwork had to do was sit back and wait. All he ends up doing is make Danny “cheating” happen faster.

He also indirectly leads everyone at the Nasty Burger to their would-be deaths by enabling/facilitating all of the episode's time travel in the first place. The only reason everyone ends up at the Nasty Burger for the explosion in canon is because of the trio and Dan’s time travel (see part 3). Clockwork is the one who obliged the Observants' request to attack Danny. He sent back Skulktech, which gave the trio access to his tower--and to the alternate future, which prompted Dan to go back to the past to railroad his timeline into happening.

Which is something Clockwork should’ve been able to see coming, and did nothing to prevent—not even when he explicitly saw Dan meddling with the past in front of him.

How was the trio able to get behind the back of someone as knowing and powerful as Clockwork (to get the time medallions and hop into the future)? Why did he get so carelessly distracted by Danny? The only explanation is either Clockwork is actually incompetent enough to get outwitted by three (two and a half) human teenagers, or he allowed them to go.

Perhaps everyone still could’ve gone on their own, without future knowledge (not that the episode gives us any options for how that would happen—again, see part 3) but he still made everything worse.

And there’s no reason Clockwork couldn’t check Dan’s timeline ten years back and see the fusion. But he still spends the entire episode acting as if Danny and Dan are the same person. Which is factually incorrect.

We could assume he secretly knows, but just pretends not to--except his actions otherwise are still highly questionable.

He could’ve been cooperative and transparent—just used the ghosts he sent after Danny to get the trio to his tower to talk (foreseeing them hitching a ride with Skulktech), while still complying with the Observants on paper. There, he could’ve explained, “There’s an alternate future where you and the other halfa fuse into a powerful monster; he’s brought the world to ruin and the Observants put a hit on you because overkill…”

(Yeah, remember this? If he's acting, he's sure as hell getting into it for no good reason...)

But instead he tells Danny “I’ve been tasked with eliminating your future, so [Dan] doesn't happen” and acts like a threat to the trio when it would’ve been much more efficient to talk things out!

Claiming that "Danny's future is sealed" because he chose to keep the answers is just blatantly wrong, and he should know better as a guardian of time himself. And cheating on a test is too petty for someone of his scale to consider so morally significant.

2. The episode doesn’t establish/justify why Clockwork didn’t just deal with Dan himself, and spare everyone else the unnecessary strife/trauma. The entire episode can only be possible because of his negligence.

For all the ominous hype about Dan being “inevitable” and “Danny’s going to turn into him”, he really…really isn’t. He’s more so the opposite, given the circumstances are so hyperspecific. The domino effect that leads to his birth is so causally fragile that one small change could completely wipe him off the map.

(like...literally fucking ANYTHING?! It's your call, dude! I'm not the Master of Time!)

Clockwork didn’t even need to be powerful enough to win against Dan one-on-one. He could’ve interfered in Dan’s past by giving information to other characters to change their decisions (steer Lancer and the Fenton’s away from the Nasty Burger via Jazz, keep Danny away from Vlad, etc). If Dan was really that big a threat to both worlds, then he has all the moral justification (for the sake of efficiency) to do so to prevent harm!

And yet, he doesn’t. There's no explained character reason he doesn't interfere--either why he can't or why he thinks he shouldn't. To use a dominantly time-travel series as an example--Doctor Who created lore on time having special "fixed points" that can't be altered without damaging the fabric of time itself. It also had moral/character conflicts exploring the Doctor choosing not to interfere with historical disasters.

But with Clockwork, we don't even get a line. Whether it's a throwaway line on not having the power to interact with regular time directly, or about how he's already tried to prevent Dan's birth and failed (and now thing are in the last stretch). The closest we get are lines such as "things are how they're supposed be" (implying he has a standard of how events should happen), but that's just window-dressing to make him sound mysterious and impressive. There's never an explanation of what does or doesn't count.

If he really couldn’t stop The Ultimate Enemy from happening in the first place, then see point one: Openly allying with/fully informing the trio from the start is more efficient and helpful than letting them treat you like an adversary and stumble in blind. Why did Danny have to go to Vlad to learn about Dan’s origin when Clockwork was right there?!

Tons of people experience trauma (or even die) because of Clockwork’s allowance or inaction. The trio, Jazz, Danny's parents and Mr Lancer (though technically they never remember), future!Valerie and her dad. Even everyone who died because of Dan in the alternate future (because Clockwork could’ve stopped it from ever reaching that point if he tried. If I can come up with ways to prevent Dan's birth, the all-knowing Master of Time can!).

And if he had the power to undo ALL of the damage to the timeline all along (rewinding time to save Danny’s loved ones) …why does anything that happens in this episode matter, at all (outside of the memories of three people)?!

Why couldn’t he have done that when the alternate timeline went awry in the first place?!

Sure, it could be said that Danny learned something from the experience...but I doubt any lesson he could've been "taught" is morally worth the apocalyptic destruction of another timeline and forcing Danny to fight as powerful a threat as Dan unassisted.

Lessons like moral honesty had already been taught in far lower-stakes ways than TUE. Since he didn’t really “become Dan” or do anything actually evil, there was nothing specific he could’ve only learned from Dan’s existence other than "don't create a fusion with Vlad". Dan's wide-scale harm was unnecessary.

3. After sidling all of this bullshit on a fourteen year old kid, Clockwork doesn’t even make up for it properly.

If he wanted to give Danny fair “second chance”, he could’ve sent him back to before any of the time travel happened—the moment in the kitchen before Boxed Lunch attacked. This would’ve undone all the alterations to the timeline and given Danny time to study—especially since he was responsible for the ghost attacks that robbed Danny of his last study days. The boy just had several massive fights and watched his loved ones blow up!

But no. His idea of a “second chance” is dropping Danny off RIGHT before the CAT! To take the blame for Dan opening the answers! All for the purpose of a little triumphant “Danny’s learned his lesson” moment for a half-assed anti-cheating message, when Danny never even cheated! In canon, he couldn't just tell Lancer “a ghost from another timeline opened the answers”—but that wouldn’t have been necessary if Clockwork just sent him further back in time! He basically ripped Danny off.

4. Why does Clockwork even listen to the Observants? What power do they have over him? Why did he oblige their request to go after Danny in the first place?

Clockwork seems to suggest that they see time in a more limited fashion than he does—perhaps with causality in a stricter order, or one-way with less alternate possibilities (based on his parade analogy)…but we see them observing Clockwork at the time window. He essentially shares access to it, so why couldn’t Clockwork just show the Observants Dan’s origin story? That’d raise the same problem with ill-informed decision-making that I already discussed.

And the episode doesn't make it clear what power the Observants have over Clockwork, and why he has any reason to listen to them. If he was right and had the better way of doing things all along, why not just outright refuse the Observants and prove himself right to them with his results? Why entertain their irrational backseating?

I'm just kind of vibing with this one. High School's a Beach - **AGIT SPOILERS** Dan's in high school. This one is so very unserious, but I think I've got a few more chapters left in me. Needs Must (When the Devil Drives) - Canon divergence. AU. Vlad and Harriet reconnect at the college reunion, but since Vlad's technically an evil spirit, he's adversely impacted by things like salt, windchimes, running water, etc. Bad News (Vlad/Harriet) shipfic. I just...I think they're neat. Bearer of Bad News - Post Phantom Planet (not AGIT compliant). Bad News fic because I have an illness and these two live in my head rent free. The GIW enlist Harriet's help in preventing Ghost King Danny from destroying the earth.

Alright I love this addition but I'm especially running wild with the potential angst that awaits Danny because now his parents know and the Justice League mistakenly told them Phantom replaced their boy.

I can only imagine their reaction to realizing the ultimate evil they were trying to seal away was the guy who had seemed to be genuine about being a hero. Meanwhile they might have accidentally turned the hero they were trying to recruit into their most dangerous enemy along with his closest allies.

I'm also just building off by my prior post and imagining the Justice League when they finally free Danny it's just the same as above with Phantom enjoying his sealing like a vacation.

Like for the entire Justice League, this is absolute most heart breaking angst with the realization of what they did. (WE ATTACKED AND SEALED AWAY A MISUNDERSTOOD TEENAGE HERO! HE WAS 14 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN GUIDANCE, NOT PUNISHMENT! WE'RE ALL MONSTERS, THIS POOR BABY WILL NEVER FORGIVE US FOR RUINING HIS ENTIRE HALF LIFE!)

But Danny, Amity's local feral badger known for fist fighting Mayor Masters in the Nasty Burger parking lot at ungodly hours in the morning, is just mad about being rudely woken up because HE WAS SLEEPING DAMN IT. (SEND ME BACK I WANT TO GO BACK TO MY NAP! IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I'VE FELT SO MUCH PEACE SINCE BEFORE THE ACCIDENT! FRUITLOOP!)

Meanwhile Vlad is now currently done with everything around him after coming to terms with the misunderstanding and can do little other than resign himself to the chaos of his own unintended creation as he holds his idiot godson. (This might as well be happening... By ancients what has my half life come to... Yes Daniel, it's nice to see you too after many months...)

DP x DC Writing Prompt: Justice League's Totally Real Redemption Program

It has been a few months now since Vlad became a member of the Justice League.

...Alright rewind, it started after he instinctively used his powers a bit in human form during one of the Wayne's Galas. It was subtle but Masters moved someone out of the way and they "barely" avoided it (no thanks to a hint of intangibility of course) if only to continue talking business with them or coursem

Of course he should have known being technically a Metahuman in Gotham would get him on the Bat's radar. It was only a matter of time before the big bad bat himself burst into his office.

But... It happened while he was asleep and only left a business card to contact the Justice League??? They apparently wanted to recruit him???

Vlad was unsure but based on them being friendly they seemed to act like they were trying some bizarre rehabilitation program? Like they're trying to make villains into heroes by treating them well having them use their powers or skills for their side? Well based on his data on the Flashes, they seem to treat their Rogues well... Probably his idea.

Weird that they chose him first instead of one of their own rogues, but Vlad went along with it. Writing it off Danny was also being recruited by the Justice League and he suggested using him as a Guinea Pig first? Honestly he wouldn't put it past the boy.

Over time though Vlad began to see the positive effects he was having as the heroes seemed to look happy he was learning good with proud stares. It felt.... Refreshing to use his powers for good, something he remembers his past self had mocked Daniel for when they met.

...Speaking of Phantom, where was he anyway? It's been a while since he pestered Vlad?

Batman, on a rare occasion like this, was happy all things considered. Constantine was right about the rumors regarding a Halfa helping people and ghosts alike. A hero in his own right.

He didn't expect to find Vladimir Masters as the one he was looking for, and by chance when he saved someone with a subtle use of powers. At first suspecting Metahuman abilities he was keeping under wraps, but Constantine came by not long after asking about the feeling of the "Infinite Realms" in the area. Once he was told about ghosts, it didn't take long to find a connection back to Vlad.

After some digging they found according to legends he has been seen across history having fought what was believed to have been another like him... The only other Halfa and one appeared evil to the bone.

Batman hadn't pressed Plasmius about his past but he did make a list of the rogues in Amity Park, a town protected by the Halfa.

Including the suspected evil Halfa, he was easy enough to track down as hiding as a ghost hunter's own son and seal away into a little artifact for now. One less threat to deal with...

Even if he recognizes not all ghosts are evil, some do not deserve second chances for their crimes.

Justice League fucks up a teeny bit in research and recruitment, so through misunderstandings they believe Plasmius was the hero and Phantom was the villain based on past stories of their appearances and legends passed through the Ghost Zone to other mythical creatures but the story and detail become warped and faded as centuries past by.)

Meanwhile Vlad thinks this is some weird rehabilitation project and seems to be working for him as he feels good about doing good. Danny in turn may not be stuck in absolute suffering but isn't exactly having a good time due to being mistaken for the bad guy and now currently sealed away.)

football isn't actually important to dash; he quits when danny and jazz help him realize he is smart and doesn't need a sports scholarship (danny gets sad bc he kinda wanted to wear his letterman)

when they realize they have a crush: danny tells tucker first, dash tells paulina first (sam and kwan feel betrayed and team up to figure out what big secret they aren't allowed to know)

dash starts going on more and more missions w team phantom and becomes a key member pretty quickly, but he's really bad at evasion maneuvers

dannys struggle with his feelings for dash, fear of his parents, and growing powers worry dash; danny keeps falling asleep during tutoring and dash tries to let him sleep

ghost activities suddenly increase due to a malfunction with the fenton portal. dash and sam are often the 2 most available to subdue the smaller ones so danny can rest

a close call with skulker that nearly kills dash is the push they need to confess to each other

1) portal accident. In the episode where Johnny tries to save kitty from the portal, jazz loses her arm because kitty bonding to her body goes wrong, and she gets a prosthetic arm FMA style

2) Technus broke into axiom labs again (Mr. "Announces his plans" never learns) while jazz and her class were on a field trip there. Technus hijacked an experimental medical biomatter reprogrammer, and jazz jumped in the line of fire to save someone on the one day she'd told Danny to take off for himself

So, I’ve had a request from Floral for Danny and spicy foods :D 

I definitely headcanon that the accident did a LOT to our boy- I think Danny’s body chemistry is different enough that he doesn’t technically count as really human anymore. 

In the real world, scientists have recently discovered that every human (except those from sub-Saharan Africa) has roughly 2-3% of Neanderthal DNA in our genetic code… and we’re all still human. So Danny could have some significant changes to his biology and still debatably be within the range of Human vs Non-Human. 

In another post, I’ll probably get into the other side-effects I think his powers have given him… migraines, chronic pain, etc- I’ve put them in my fics too. I also think that as his body tries to figure out if it’s alive or dead, his metabolism would jump all over the place. Some days, it would be really slow, and other days, he wouldn’t be able to stop eating, or moving. 

Some days, his metabolism is so fast that it burns through the pain meds he takes on his bad days, and when he gets older and starts drinking, he figures out that some days, he’s completely toasted after half a beer…. Other days, he’s like Steve Rogers and can’t get drunk at all. 

Another side effect of his powers- and his ice core- is that he runs cold… several degrees colder than normal humans. He doesn’t notice so much, except for that one time before Undergrowth. He tries to use his cryo-powers enough that it’s not a problem, but he can’t turn off his core, and his chill, without putting his existence in danger. From what we see, Danny doesn’t get hugged a lot… and his external body temperature might have something to do with it. 

I think he is a big fan of cuddles and hugging… but he spends so much of his time helping other people that he forgets to ask for what he needs. He doesn’t want to be a burden, so he just doesn’t ask. 

But Danny also isn’t really aware that the inside of his mouth is cold too- warmer than the rest of him, since that’s the case for normal humans… but still pretty cold. His tastebuds are severely dulled… and as a result, he can’t taste a lot of things. 

For a LONG time, Danny doesn’t really notice. The cafeteria food is only “food” in the sense that it’s technically edible, and theoretically contains calories. And growing up, he’s eaten enough ecto-contaminated food over the years that didn’t taste quite right, so he’s not really used to the normal tastes of food anyway. 

But after the accident, he loses a lot of his sense of taste. It’s not until he starts squeezing half a dozen packets of Nasty Burger Special Sauce on his burgers and nuggets that Tucker points out that something might be up. Yknow, because Danny says that he can’t taste it otherwise, and Tucker and Sam both look at him like he’s nuts. Which is saying something, because they’ve rolled with a lot of punches.

And then there’s the day that the A-Listers are suddenly nice to him… and kick Nathan away from the loser table in the cafeteria, and bring Danny his lunch. And stand there and wait to watch him eat it. Danny knows that with his mother’s lack of cooking skills, the ecto-contamination at his house, and the fact that he can literally reach inside his stomach to pull out anything that he really shouldn’t have eaten, whatever they’ve done to his lunch won’t really hurt him. And it might get him a couple days free from bullying if he goes along with it… so he does. 

Only, as he eats it, he can’t tell that they’ve done anything to the food. It actually tastes… good. Way better than the cafeteria food normally tastes. And even though some part of his brain knows that this is suspicious, he can’t bring himself to care. It’s been months since he enjoyed something he ate. 

Turns out, the football team thought it would be funny to put ghost peppers in his lunch… because of the “ghost” part. Except… ghost peppers come in at over 1,000,000+ Scoville units (standard unit for measuring spice/heat levels), over 400x hotter than jalapeños. Danny knows that a normal human’s mouth would practically be on fire right now, but he feels fine. 

…and he knows he shouldn’t. He knows from Tucker’s ravings about food that ghost peppers can (and have) killed people from eating them. But he thinks they’re delicious. Which is when he figures out that maybe his powers have done something to his tongue.  

As Danny gets older, he starts to learn what exactly happened. And exactly what the rules are. Spicy food is great- the capsaicin is hot enough to warm his tastebuds to the point that he can taste the food again, so he just starts drenching everything in hot sauce. When Tucker tells him that he can’t put hot sauce on ice cream, Danny listens, because if even Tucker won’t eat it, it’s probably gross… and learns that he can taste cold things too. 

Temperature extremes mean that he can actually enjoy food… and to anyone who doesn’t know his secret, he’s just one of Those People who put hot sauce on everything… which is by far the least weird thing about any of the Fentons, so everyone pretty much lets it go.

I feel that Tim is crazy enough to purposely stop his heart and have it restarted just to chew out his soul mate for all the shit he put him through.

Danny has had the words "please stop dying" since he was a kid. Before the accident it seemed very concerning. But at one point at his start of his Phantom career, he realizes with his friends that his soulmate's probably seen a bunch of phrases in their wrist by now. That's what pushes him to start using puns. To try to calm his soulmate.

During a live interview, Tim winces, and the interviewer immediately realizes what it means and offers condolences. Tim shakes his head.

"Nah, it's fine. They die all the time."

"...Excuse me?"

"They die. Over and over again. Their record is 6.2 seconds between deaths."

"How?"

"I wish I knew."

"What does it say now?"

Tim shows them. The camera zooms in on Tim's soulmark, which says "Testing testing, 1 2 3."

The interview continues, but then Tim winces again and he checks the soulmark. It changes on camera to "Holy shit, that worked. My soulmate is Tim Drake."

Tim's jaw drops, and he quickly covers it. He refuses to let anyone see it until the interview is over and he can look at it again in private.

At the next Rich Person Event™ Lex tries to question Tim about his soulmark because what does it mean if Lex's soulmark changes too?

Lex had never given much thought to his soul mate. Lionel had drilled into Lex from an early age that soul mates where a weakness men of business should not have, that Lex could not have. It was easy to convince himself that Lionel was right whenever he saw his soul mark “Aaah! Bogus!” Whomever uttered that as their final words was obviously not worth Lex’s time.

Lex felt almost relieved when he felt his soul mark burn, at least now he wouldn’t have the weakness of a soul mate for his competitors to try and use against him. Unfortunately for Lex is appeared his soul mate was resuscitated shortly after and his mark changed. Lex found “I refuse to die in a place like this” much more preferable to his previous mark, though he did find it odd that his mark seemed to slowly fade over time, perhaps his soul mate was dying, how tragic, anyway-

Little over two years elapsed before Lex thought of his soul mate again. Once more his mark burned,once more Lex breathed a sigh of relief and once more the mark changed. “I refuse to be weak” was now engraved on Lex’s skin, now much more vibrant than it had been since it first changed.

Lex thought little of it, people where revived from the dead everyday, perhaps his sickly soulmate died during life saving surgery and was brought back, not that Lex cared about his soulmate. But the mark kept burning, kept changing, the words etched on his skin changed nearly everyday, this was not normal.

Lex did his best to ignore his soul marks peculiarities just as he planned on ignoring its existence when he was a child but he couldn’t help but note some of the phrases that decorated his skin.

“Cheese and Crackers!”

“Oh I think you’ll soon find I get everything I want”

Lex finally got some answers to what was going on with his soulmate the day his mark changed to “Imagine my surprise when I find you, the second ghost hybrid his foolishness created”

Ghost hybrid? What did that mean? And how exactly did you create one? Lex tried to shake these questions out of his head, soulmates always brought trouble and they could betray you in the end. He knew the second he heard his mothers final words and found them written on his father her killer’s skin.

So Lex did what he did best when it came to his soul mate, he ignored them, he knew it would hurt less to never meet his soulmate than to be inevitably betrayed by them.

Lex through all his attention into strengthening LexCrop and convincing the public that Superman could not be trusted. An alien with no connection to earth should not have that kind of power, perhaps if Superman was a human things would be different but if Lex couldn’t count on the loyalty of a soulmate, he was not going to trust the loyalty of a random alien to a planet not his own.

Lex would have kept on ignoring his soulmate until that blasted Drake had to reveal his own soulmate was dying and reviving regularly, that Drake’s soulmates ability to die on command meant they could communicate with each other, that they could find each other.

Lex blamed Drake because his own soulmate had apparently gotten inspired or at least was annoyed into doing this because when Lex looked at his mark the next morning.

“Fine if it will get you to stop bugging me I’ll do it, Hello my name is Vlad Masters and I am your soulmate, happy now?”

No Lex was definitely not happy now.

“It’s so weird that that ghost hunter is just staking out in the woods now. What, is he camping out there too?” Sam said as they walked down the steps outside of the school.

“I don’t know.” Danny kicked a pebble in front of him. “What if some random person is just taking a stroll through the woods though and he starts shooting at them? He seems a little unhinged to me, with all of his purity talk he keeps spewing.”

“I don’t know man.” Tucker looked up from his PDA. “But I definitely think you should stay out of the woods though. You don’t wanna risk running into him again.”

“Yeah.” Sam paused. “Why were you in the woods on Saturday anyways?” Her jaw dropped. “You didn’t go hang out with Dash, did you?”

Danny waved his arms at her. “It was an accident! I was flying over the park on patrol and I forgot he asked me to hang out! I couldn’t just ignore him!”

“Yeah! You could’ve!”

“No, you don’t understand.” Danny looked at the ground. “He seemed so excited. And like he wants to change.”

“You said that just a couple days ago and then he beat you up!”

“It takes time to change things like that!” Danny shouted back. “He had a relapse because he was having a bad day!”

“This is not the kind of behavior you should be excusing, Danny!” Sam frowned at him. “You’ve never excused it before. Why are you starting now?” 

“You. Don’t. Get. It,” Danny ground out.

Sam sighed and finally softened. “Danny, we’re your friends. You can talk to us about anything. What don’t we get?”

Tucker had been silent the whole conversation, eyes flicking back and forth between Danny and Sam. His eyes widened as Danny made eye contact with him.

“It’s whatever, it doesn’t matter.” Danny looked away and ran a hand over his face. “I’m gonna start heading home. The ghosts have been pretty quiet lately so I’m gonna go do my homework.”

“I just don’t think being friends with Dash is a good idea. Just be careful, okay?”

Danny sighed. “Sure.”

He walked away from his friends to the side of the school where the crowd of students wouldn’t be able to see him. He transformed and shot into the sky, heading in the direction of his house.

Who was Sam to tell him what to do? Sure, she was one of his best friends. But that didn’t mean she just got to make decisions for him. If Danny wanted to hang out with Dash he would. If he really wanted to, they’d become friends.

Yeah. Friends. 

He was flying over the Nasty Burger when he saw him. Dash was already almost to the fast food place. He must’ve left school early.

Danny felt indignation rise in his stomach. He could trust his own judgement in character. If he thought Dash wanted to be a better person, was becoming a better person, then he must be. Especially after Dash asked Danny how he got to be such a good person. Why else would he be asking that if he wasn’t trying?

Decision made, Danny flew down to where Dash was.

“Hey.”

Dash jumped, looking around until he spotted Danny hovering behind him.

“Oh! Hey, Phantom.” Dash waved at him. “What’s up?”

“I just got done with…uh.” Danny stammered. “My afternoon patrol? Yeah.”

“Cool! It still seems like it’s pretty quiet out there. It must be nice to have a break.”

“Yeah. Weird though. I’m not sure where they all went to hang out this week but I’m not complaining.”

“I bet.” Dash smiled.

They stared at each other for a couple seconds before Danny cleared his throat. “Anyways… I was wondering if you were up for hanging out for a little bit?”

“Yeah! Always!” Dash pointed towards the Nasty Burger over his shoulder. “I was gonna go get some food. You want some?”

“Yeah! I’ll take a number three meal. Thank you.”

“Anytime. I’ll be right back.”

Dash made quick work going inside and ordering. The after school lunch rush hadn’t arrived yet so he was back outside in just a few minutes. 

“Here you go.” Dash handed Danny a to-go bag. 

“Thanks.” Danny took the bag and looked around and pointed at the top of a building. “Want to go eat up there?”

“Yeah! That’d be cool!” Dash exclaimed.

Danny tightened his hold on his bag and grabbed Dash around the waist and took off, Dash gripping two cups of soda to his chest. The flight to the top of the building was short and Danny set Dash gently down on the roof, making sure Dash had his footing before letting go. 

He sat down, dangling his feet over the edge of the building, and pulled a burger out of his bag and took a big bite. 

They sat in silence while they ate their food. Danny watched the clouds drift over the blue sky. He swallowed the last bite of his burger, took a sip of his soda, and grabbed a napkin to wipe the grease off his gloves. He crushed it into a ball and fidgeted with the paper between two of his fingers. 

“Why were you asking me how I got to be such a good person on Saturday?” Danny asked suddenly.

Dash made a choking sound, surprised by Danny’s question. He took a sip of the soda to clear his throat before he looked at Danny. “What? Why do you ask?”

“I don’t know.” Danny ran a hand through his hair. “It’s just– you seem like you’re trying to be better. You seem a lot nicer than before. Compared to uh, when we were stuck in that shrinking incident.”

Dash just watched Danny, burger still held out in front of him.

“Also some of the kids from Casper High that help me in ghost fights were skeptical about you having a change of heart. They don’t believe that’s the case.”

Dash scoffed, looking at the ground below them. “That’s probably Manson and Foley. I can’t say I blame them though. I’ve been a jerkwad to them and their friend for a long time.”

“But you’re trying to be better, right?” Danny asked.

Dash nodded.

Danny placed a hand on Dash’s shoulder. Dash’s eyes raised to meet his own.

“Then I think that’s all that matters.”

They sats there and stared at each other. Danny’s hand lingered on Dash’s shoulder for just a little too long and once he realized that he quickly pulled away and cleared his throat. 

“Haha... Anyways, have you done anything fun lately?” Danny smiled at him awkwardly. 

They sat and talked on the top of the roof for a while, eating the rest of their food while they did. The sun steadily moved across the sky, the blue turning into orange. Danny tilted his head up into the wind and he suddenly realized how much time had passed while they sat talking. 

“Oh shoot, I gotta go home and–- or, uh, I gotta go do my last patrol for the day.” Danny stood up and stretched. “Want me to fly you home again?”

Dash smiled at him. “Do you patrol in all your free time?”

Danny shrugged. “It’s in the job description.”

Dash laughed. “Okay, if you say so. But no, I was gonna meet up with Kwan for a little bit today and then head home. You can just drop me back on the sidewalk.”

“Got it.”

Danny grabbed Dash in the same way as earlier when he brought him to the roof. The only difference this time was Dash wrapping an arm around Danny’s shoulder. He blushed at the contact.

Floating up and over the edge of the building, Danny slowly glided down to the sidewalk. When their feet touched down Danny pulled away, his fingers grazing across Dash’s back. 

“I’ll see you later.” Dash waved as Danny floated back into the air.

“Yeah.” He smiled. “See you later.”

Timekeeper's assistants AU

Alright y'all! This is gonna be my info dump post for the Timekeepers assistant Au- buckle up cause it's gonna be a long one!

Inspired by @queendibz post here

The entire purpose of the assistant squad is to keep all the time lines running smoothly- this can range from stopping a world ending event to making sure things misplaced by natural ghost portals get put back into the right time and place.

So First up on the crew list,

Dan:

-Dan definitely isn't a homicidal maniac anymore but he's not 100 percent "redeemed" either.

-I mean he's probably still a bit of sadist but he tries not to be?

-The best description I can give is that he's in recovery, basically.

-So, Clockwork knew that Dan would eventually bust out of the thermos just because it wasn't built to hold a ghost of his power level for a prolonged period of time. But beyond that?? He has no idea about anything in regards to Dan. Since Dan's creation was averted, his timeline doesn't exist anymore. He's a paradox that exists outside of time, and unfortunately, that means he's the one entity in the multiverse that exists in Clockwork's blindspot. There's no way for him to know what Dan's going to do next.

-Anyway, Dan eventually breaks out of the thermos fully intending to Fuck Shit Up, And Clockwork makes a point of informing him that if he leaves the clock tower he will cease to exist. (Like Dan, the tower exists outside of time, so he's safe there.)

-Dan is the first member of the assistant squad. Granted, it took a while for him to come around to the idea of helping Clockwork but he got there eventually.

-Dan is an entity that was born out of the rage and grief of two very broken people and he has so much shit he's working through as a result

-One of the first things he had to do was recognize and accept that he's an entity that's completely separate from Vlad and Danny. He might have all their memories and the weight of their mistakes on his shoulders, and on top of that, the atrocities he himself committed because of them. The first step is realizing that he doesn't have to be defined by the people that made him.

-It's a really fucking difficult thing to do tho and he's got a lot of weird emotions in regards to Vlad, Danny and the Fentons as a result. A near constant identity crisis, self loathing, daddy issues, something that could arguably be called an Oedipus complex, (FUCKING THANKS, VLAD)

-Cannot stand the smell of fast food, it makes him nauseous and the sight of Nasty Burger sauce alone is enough to make him vomit Ectoplasm.

-He's just a hot mess all around y'all

-He tries to keep his interactions with the Danny's as minimal as possible at first bc of this. The first time he meets them in person he shape shifts into Danny like he did in TUE and just pretends to be one of them. Some of them have had interactions with their respective Dan's already and would be super wary of him and probably pretty freaked out otherwise.

-Dan is eventually allowed to leave the clocktower for supervised "Field missions" with the aid of a time medallion to keep him from poofing out of existence, but it takes a while for clockwork to build up that level of trust.

-Dan's shapeshifting ability Actually comes into play a bit on a lot of those missions, since he can Mimic Danny it also makes sense that he'd be able to impersonate Vlad in the same way. Granted he's not incredibly comfortable taking on either of their appearances but it does help him hone his shapeshifting ability to the point where he's able to pick and choose features from both Vlad and Danny and sorta make his own human disguise.

-Most of the time he acts as the eye in the sky from the tower, monitoring for timeline anomalies and then notifying the appropriate member of the assistant squad.

-He has a room under the clock tower that he operates from. I kinda like the idea of there being like, catacombs down there? Anyway he's got all kinds of monitors and view screens and he very rarely leaves. It also doubles as his "living space." He doesn't need to sleep but he's got a big mess of a pillow fort that he crashes in regardless bc sometimes you just NEED to be unconscious for a while. The catacombs are also absolutely full of those little blob ghosts that wander around the zone bc They're attracted to the ecto energy the tower gives off. He's really annoyed by them at first but they grow on him after a while and now he just dotes on them.

-There's a specific throw pillow sized one that likes to hang out in Dan's room a lot and he ended up getting a little over attached to the stupid thing. His name is Dorian. Bc he's a gift.

-SIR THATS MY EMOTIONAL SUPPORT BLOB

-Dan's appearance has changed slightly. He wears his hair loose now and it's kinda just this big fiery mane when it's not contained. His cape is more of a cloak now, it has a hood and he wears it sorta pinned together at the shoulder so the DP logo is covered.

-Dan's relationship with the rest of the Danny's is kinda weird, and a little strained. He has a hard time being around them for very long because, well, he used to sort of be them? Except not really? He does care about them tho, and the last thing he'd want is for one of them to end up like him.

-His relationship with clockwork definitely starts out pretty familial, after he becomes his assistant, anyway. There's room for that to develop into meddling minutes but I'm not entirely sure if I'm gonna go that route yet.

-The Danny's only ever hear his voice for a while before he finally let's them meet him for real, so they end up calling him Charlie for a while as a joke. Cause Ya know. Charlie's angels. Even after Charlie still ends up being his designated name on missions.

Mer! Danny:

-Was recruited bc a lot of the shit that gets sucked through natural portals ends up in a body of water somewhere and when that happens he's on call to retrieve it.

-Is Actually not at all ghostly! Mer Danny's situation is basically the plot of H2O (just add water), or if you haven't seen that, Aquamarine. And by that I mean he's only a merfolk in water.

-He's an electric eel

-His Jack and Maddie are marine biologists, with a particular interest in marine cryptids

-Not entirely sure how this Danny ended up half mer yet but I'll figure it out, lmao.

Crown Prince! Danny:

-Nickname/designation is Prince / Princey

-16 years old

-Not allowed to go anywhere in the zone without the Fright knight bc of some ancient ghost law bullshit, so he has a constant babysitter.

-He's next in line bc he sealed away Pariah, but can't take the throne until he is both, A) at least 18 years and B) Completely deceased

-Vlad is his Regent bc he did have a part in the whole sealing the previous king thing, but he's also not completely dead so his power is super limited there.

-As Prince Danny has the crown of fire in his ghost form, although now the name is kinda ironic seeing as it's completely frozen over. It's blue now and it smokes like dry ice.

-As Regent, Vlad has the ring of rage for "safe keeping"

-Vlad and Danny are pretty much constantly at each other's throats, fright knights probably had to shut down more than a few of Vlad's attempts to usurp the crown from Danny through combat.

-Princey deals with the timeline issues that involve the ghost zones' internal / political affairs, and he's gotten very well versed with dealing with the Observants.

Winged! Danny :

-15 years old

-Mallard duck wings

-His Vlad is a swan

-Comes from a family of waterfowl, Jack is a goose, and Maddie is a white swan. Both he and jazz are ducks bc of their grandparents.

-As Fenton his wings are white, like jazz, and as phantom they turn black with a green iridescent sheen.

-He's trans

-Nickname/ designation is inviso Bill. Bc ducks have bills haha get it-

-Absolute besties with Mer!Danny/ Moray, sometimes they go swimming together after a mission.

Clone! Danny:

-Physically he's a 12-year-old, but he's only been alive for a few months.

-Alt universe where Vlad manages to stabilize the perfect clone with his own DNA.

-Dani still exists, and the original danny from his time line also rescued the other problematic clones.

-Doesnt like the fact that he's a clone, and very much wants them all DEAD. Bc them running around is a reminder that he's not the real danny.

-Human half looks the same aside from the widows peak and the mallen streak. His ghost half takes after plasmius. Blue skin, and the Hazmat kept it's original white colors.

-Probably has fangs and a forked tounge.

-Not so much a member of the squad as he is someone that they need to be keeping an eye on.

-Does NOT get along with them.

-Dan enjoys making him uncomfortable.

Family Breakfast AU! Danny:

-A BABY

-The boy is a fucking overpowered todler okay. He's an 8 year old.

-The biological son of his Vlad, was born a Halfa. Jack, Vlad and Maddie got their shit together and are in a healthy poly relationship.

-Got separated from Vlad one time in the zone and inadvertently adopted by the assistant squad and clockwork.

-His Vlad is aware of the squad and just. Dad's the crap out of the Danny's as a result. It makes for some..... interesting interactions.

-I can't think of a nickname so I'm just gonna be lazy and say he gets to be the one Tru Danny bc cute little kind privileges lmao.

Full ghost! Danny:

-Nickname/designation is Toast

-Died in the portal accident and got fucking FRIED.

-He always smells like somethings burning.

-He's really bright and sorta sparks a bit, you can see his bones glowing through the hazmat.

-He still leave the zone to protect his version of amity, but lives with clockwork full time.

-Basically show Danny, except phantom planet never happened fuck you

-Joined the crew after the events of de stabilized

-Is Actually 20 years old, but physically stuck at age 14. Bc he's a walking corpse :)

-Came from a timeline that was directly parallel to Full ghost! Danny. He dies in the portal accident, but jack and Maddie are in the lab when it happens and manage to sort of bring him back using a combination of science and freaky ghost junk.

-So he's basically possessing/ stuck inside of his own dead body. Which, is thankfully not rotting or going into rigor mortis bc Ectoplasm is rather similar to formaldehyde, but he's not the most durable thing and bits and pieces fall off from time to time.

-Like his head. For example.

-He's pretty desensitized to it at this point and if he loses a leg after a ghost fight he doesn't see anything wrong with sitting down on the curb of a main street to stich it back on. His being dead isn't exactly a secret.

-Don't ever ask him to "give you a hand" bc he can and will not hesitate to pop one off and Chuck it at you.

-Said hand and any other body part will continue to function just fine even if it isn't attached to anything, btw.

-Nickname/ designation is Adam. Bc. Ya know. that's the name Frankenstein's monster gave itself.

Post Phantom Planet! Danny:

-A very jaded 22 year old who is driven only by spite and enough caffeine to kill a horse

-Very, very tired of the hero thing.

-Being a global celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be.

-Decided to follow Vlads lead and fuck off to space for a while. Partially to get away from everyone and also partially bc he kinda feels responsible for the fact that the only other person like him and probably floating DEAD in the void somewhere? And yeah Vlad fucked up all on his own but what if he'd tried harder to get through to him things could have been different-

-Joins the crew after a natural portal opens up in space and decides to help out and use clockworks resources to try and track down his Vlad.

-Nickname/ Designation is Polaris, aka the north star.
