Some of you assholes are about to make me do an entire essay on writing structure, serialized fiction and like, fucking, the basic iterative creative process as it relates to HB.
Broad strokes though:
Pilot. 👏 Episodes 👏 Are 👏 Just 👏 Concepts 👏
Concepts are the INITIAL stage of the creative process. You may start with a character looking and behaving a certain way but by the time you get a final product they are completely fucking different. Or a story starts out in one direction in your early drafts but once you’ve really sat down and fleshed it out you realize you need to change it completely. This is why we have sketches, why we do drafts, why we do concept art. Every creative endeavor involves these steps. It’s rough -> refine -> refine -> refine -> finished product (or as finished as you can get with time/money/resource constraints).
That’s how every creative endeavor goes plus or minus some refinement steps. Things like money, time, and the number of people working on a project and tools available can change this math a bit but it’s ALWAYS the same basic principle. You start with a concept, you refine it over and over until it’s as close to done as you can make it. This can take a few days, this can take a few decades, but it still happens every time. Whether you SEE it or not.
Most of the time you don’t see the pilots of television shows. In major corporate productions all the behind the scenes growing pains happen before you lay your eyes on it. Examples we do have of true pilots often differ vastly from the end product and are usually released as special bonus material. Sometimes a show will call an episode the Pilot but there were versions of that pilot that got left on the cutting room floor. Before that there were character sketches, draft scripts, set designs, story breaking sessions etc that no one but the main creators see.
Independent productions, however, like Helluva Boss, like indie games, like web comics often don’t have the resources to go through that process without some transparency, they need to generate interest and capital. So they release concept art, pilots, Alpha versions and other pre-production materials to the public to get people to buy in and help them fund the project. That’s how they get it made.
The problem is some of you can’t seem to see past that rough draft.
Helluva Boss gave audiences the basic idea of the show with the Pilot. After they had secured interest and resources they could actually afford to flesh it out. And guess what? Like all creative cycles, shit changed. Characters changed. Designs changed. Stories changed. Then they released the first episodes, the final product, and those episodes said “Hey, this is what we landed on in terms of direction and this is the story we decided to tell. Here are the setups for what you’ll see going forward. Those set ups are:
“IMP is a business is hell specializing in the assasination of humans at the request of people already in Hell. There are four employees, Millie, Moxxie, Loona and the boss Blitzø. They accomplish this through the use of a grimoire that the title character (the boss) Blitzø is in possession of. He got this book from another character Stolas, they make a consensual sexual deal for use of the book. We have some indications of personality and characterization, financial struggles, but we’ll find out more in subsequent episodes.”
That’s episode 1. The first goddamn episode for the series.
Episode 2 is “Here is what we’ll actually be exploring through the course of this show beyond the broad premise you saw in episode 1: Blitzo’s relationship with Stolas. Stolas’s relationship with his family specifically his daughter and his failing marriage. Blitzo’s relationship with Millie and Moxxie. Blitzo’s relationship with his daughter. Blitzo’s issue with the Fizzarolli bot. Moxxie and Millie’s relationship dynamic.” All these things are setup and that is what the show is about. It’s what the show remains about, it’s what we’ve slowly been revealing and exploring.
So this whole “the show BECAME about Stolitz and Stolas is all sad owl now” is only an argument if all you saw and internalized was the rough draft. Because the actual FIRST. TWO. EPISODES. OF. THE. FINAL. PRODUCT. Very Explicitly layout what the show is going to be about and THATS WHAT ITS ABOUT. Blitzo’s relationships, including and very importantly his relationship with Stolas, Stolas’s relationships, and very importantly his relationship with Blitzø. Moxxie, Millie, Loona, Octavia and Stella are part of that. IMP is part of that but the central core of the show, as setup in the first two episodes are IMP, Blitzø, Stolas and the relationships that spiral off from those core things. And they have not changed, they have been expanded upon and revealed because….its a story, and that’s what happens in stories.

Prophetic stars & dreams
Tumblr media
Stolas was born to read prophecies from the stars.
And it's the job Via was born to replace, if Stolas couldn't be controlled.
Both of them seem to pick up small glimpses of the future outside of this work, about important things in their own lives.
And don't seem to really understand that's what's they're doing.
Feeling more like they get hints and nudges; that aren't always in the right order, can get confused with other similar events, and even are clouded by the emotions from their future selves.
The 11th birthday
Stolas starts getting prophecies as soon as he's handed the book. Putting these hints with his gut instincts as soon as his life's purpose is named by Paimon.
Tumblr media
He takes one look at Stella and goes all the nope.
Tumblr media
He sees Blitzo, and isn't just smitten; but stays that way for 25 years.
Blitz is important.
Tumblr media
And out of all the teddies they could be playing within that room; Stolas wants to share his more important possession, knowledge, with his new friend.
He has a small idea that he should share his books with his first friend.  Like he will do with the grimoire later.  It's important to do.
Tumblr media
He knows Blitzo will be a good boss, and is very supportive of Blitz dream.
Tumblr media
But Stolas does has a couple of questions about their conversation. 'A office for a circus business?'  Seems like he's got a feeling that it's not the right business plan.
Tumblr media
The other thing he questions is if Blitz will really hire him. And this feels like it gives us a clue to how these powers work.
Tumblr media
Stolas is only hired after his powers are stripped.  Seems like it makes it much more hazy for him to see. But he does think it would be a good thing to happen.
Via's nightmare
Octavia's had one unshakable fear for years.  That her dad will disappear from her home one day, and she won't be able to find him.
Tumblr media
This is the same night. We see what scared tinny wee Via so much in Loo loo land. She saw what was happening in I Will Be Ok in Sinsmas.
This is her nightmare.
Tumblr media
Via's see her home after Stolas' banishment, and it becomes her biggest fear.
No promises can make her forget it.
Tumblr media
This vision is why she's so sure that Stolas will leave her, running off with Blitz.
She's been waiting for the other shoe to drop since he turned up.
And she's not the only one worried by this nightmare.
Stolas' assumed earlier death
Between the mandatory precautionary aire, the chronic depression, and the abusive wife; Stolas always appears to have expected to died young.
But it's likely that on some level he tuck Via's nightmare as conformation. With this being reflected in the lullaby he sings her back to sleep with.
Tumblr media
He didn't expect to still be around when she's grown. But knew she'd physically be 'ok', and he tuck comfort in that. (It appears Stolas made sure that Via would have some level of independent, from Stella, as well as everything thing he owns; in the event of his death).
Again, this feels like he can't see properly see past having his powers striped. And appears to have assumed that ment he'd be dead before Via turned 18.
They both saw him as gone after all.
Tumblr media
Think this is why Stolas is so extremely surprised Satan didn't just kill him. (Not just that he's unaware of his own privage. Those he definitely is that lol. These visions are only tiny glimpses acting as gut feeling after all).
And even when Stella tries to kill him he's pretty resigned to it. He doesn't want to die, but also doesn't seem to think he'll have much to a choice in the matter.
Home doesn't feel like home anymore
Via next vision gives her more information about her dad disappearance.
She gets 3 tiny pieces of information about it for her future self. And they cement in her mind that's it'll Blitz who'll take her dad away, because that's how Sinsmas Via sees it.
1 That home isn't home anymore.
Tumblr media
That moment when she looks up and sees how different the palice is without her dad. There's no warmth or life anymore. With even her dad's pet plant dead.
2 And that Stolas will run off with Blitz
It's the first time her dad introduces them, in place that's ment to be comforting familiar; but it's understandable that she's scared.
Yer it's all coloured by how she sees and understand it at the time. Both for how she feels it now crying at Loo Loo Land, and how she feels in Sinsmas. All making the kid scared and anxious about the future.
3 Stolas will go somewhere she can't find him.
And there is a time where she can't find her dad.
Tumblr media
I think Via comforted herself that she knew where her dad was.
Ok, he's not allowed the the palace anymore; but she could just go to IMP any time and there would be her dad with his shitty boyfriend. Safe, just waiting for her to come around.
And when he's not there, and he's not safe because he hasn't got his antidepressants; she gets terrified. Enough for it to be part of what she has sees will happen.
The horse stars
Tumblr media
Oh and another cute one before we get more trauma.
Stolas's grimoire trys tell him about Blitz, the day the met as adults. By turning Ursa major into a horse, just as Blitz is trying to attract his attention at the window.
But Stolas has his eyes shut and doesn't notice either.
It's sweet that his magic tried to point out the love his life though it.
Via's rejection
Tumblr media
She also sees that she's going to have the opportunity to see her dad, that he will reach out to her.
As well as that she will be too angry with him to take it.
Stolas' ways
Tumblr media
Stolas was definitely bubble scrys to find out where Blitz is in Truth Seekers, and then he only steps in when IMP are out of options.
(Stolas uses Blitz's advice when captured by Striker, so he was very likely watching a while there).
Tumblr media
But I've gone back and forth on Stolas' reason for checking in the first place.
I think he's definitely put a curse on Blitz to make him practically bullet proof (Blitz hasn't ever gotten shot since Stolas hand glowed red in Ep1), and stop his guns being used against him.
Making them heat up and misfire, taking out the guy tried to use Blitz's stolen gun.
Tumblr media
I'd assumed he'd had some sort alert for Blitz being in shit he can't get out of. Like when he and Moxxie were captured by the Dhorks.
But it did make me wonder why Stolas wouldn't turn up in chupacabra. When we now know he does in Mastermind, so it's not the heartbreak that would stop him if Blitz is really in stuck.
It's that Blitz could get himself out of there (with the help of a cute goat), so Stolas didn't get the urge to check.
This leads up on to...
Andy's ways (not the worst plan)
Andy says he's a similar job a power set to Stolas. This is why he can be fairly certain that not summoning him to the court, but having Satan broadcast the execution; will get Stolas to see what he wants. And only what he wants. (Not the fake rape accusation, or that Blitz now apparently paid Striker to kill him 🙄).
Otherwise it's a very dumb plan.
Tumblr media
While lower class demons TV's turn on, and automatically play the trial; Stolas' doesn't.
Stolas is already got the TV on and is actively channel hopping before Andy's scheme makes it mandatory viewing for anyone. And Goetia aren't included in the Satan's power play.
Stolas even skips past his favourite show, helluva novella, twice to see Blitz's execution. He's got a little itch telling him he's need to flick over.
Tumblr media
But because Andy does have a similar magic he can be pretty sure that Stolas will see it, and come running to Blitz's aid.
Knight in shining armour
Tumblr media
Stolas has a fantasy about being rescued by Blitz, his knight in shinning armour.
It's a rock solid believe for him. To the point that he trys to make it happen twice, to a greater and lesser extent. (Only being shaken of it after Striker's torture).
First by hiring Blitz as an unnecessary bodyguards, to introduce his lover and kid.
And second by phoning Blitz to please rescue him when Stiker had him kidnapped.
While Blitz does save him, it doesn't happened either time Stolas was expecting it to.
Tumblr media
It happens after his powers are striped; and he isn't expecting anyone to help him. He was expecting Andy to kill him.
(Stolas was going see Via or die trying).
Tumblr media
And Andy would have if Blitz didn't realise where Stolas had gone, and take IMP and Via with him.
Gonna chalk this is up to a combination of similar things similar things happening make it much harder to understand when things are going to happen. And the full knight in shinning armour moment doesn't happen till after Stolas is striped of his magic.
Hummm actually Stolas specifically tries to make it happen Twice.
Tumblr media
And Blitz is his big romantic rescuer twice. Guess him seeing it twice could explain why it's such a rock solid believe.
Stopping Stiker in Harvest Moon Festival could count, but Stolas doesn't find out till Apology Tour.
Tumblr media
And that's a really shitty way to find out Blitz did that, because not telling Stolas someone wants him dead nearly got him killed.
Like Via's emotions from her visions are colour how she feels, so do Stolas'. Stolas is definitely a dumbass feeling it has to be Blitz savings him, but it might explain a little why he's so stuck on the idea.
Tumblr media
(He's a daft salty bitch lol, but we love him).
Striker's demise
Tumblr media
Think both of these are hints on how Striker will die. That Stolas will destroy Striker if he hurts Via. Which seems certain he'll do.
But even though I do think at the start of this scene Stolas believed Blitz would come for him; I think he'd given up all hope by the point Striker's asks for any last words.
The rest feels like was going to be "Blitz...will... kill you".
Thinking this means that both dads will fight Striker together to save Via.
Like how M&M fought together to save Stolas. We've only seen them fighting singularly before. I think it would be amazing to see them together fighting to keep her safe and sound.
With Stolas having the last hit to protect is little girl, and the dead blow.
The flames of rebellion -Stolas' last prophecy
Tumblr media
Stolas tries to warn the court that treating Blitz badly could spark revolt of imps.
Then Satan call Blitz a pawn, and throws him out like trash. Completing it by saying on live TV that his life doesn't have matter compared to a goeita's.
This is after Andy already stepped on Blitz's face, telling him he should know his place.
It would be funny if Stolas' last official prophecy was predicting imp rebellion, because of their ill treatment to his lover.

My messy thoughts on the new episode
(spoilers for Ghostf**kers)
tldr I LOVED this one the animation saw POPING OFF the writing was great, it was well paced, everything. I just wanted to ramble so here i am talking to no one:
Ok right off the bat i had to pause this like 7 times in the first five minutes because the beginning of this is just packed with insane jokes, glass to see they havent forgotten about being a comedy show
It’s so sad to see Blitzo in this state, especially that it’s been over a month. Like look at this guy he is GOING THROUGH IT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also this was uncalled for how can you do me like this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok like my one problem i don’t like this little Scooby-doo reference with old people. I just skipped it and lost nothing, i don’t know why this is here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the fight between Blitzo and Millie in the vents was also really well done im so glad Millie is putting up boundaries on dealing with everybody elses Bullshit.
I also don’t hear anyone talking about this but Vivinie Williams (Millie’s VA) did so well in this. Like all the voice acting in this show is peak but I’ve only really heard praise for Brendon and Bryce. Their argument here specifically, the fury in her voice was so well done, bravo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JESUS CHRIST THEY DID NOT NEED TO GO THIS HARD this scene has been stuck in my head for the past two days, Brandon killed it in he recording booth, the animation is also just so VICERAL. Also the way the fire starts from his hands because he blames himself for it, like Viv went too far with this one. That was not ok.
Bitzo’s panic attack was also done so well. Little detail but i love that when Blitzo screams “Don’t touch me!”, Millie respects this and doesnt, instead comforting him with words. They only touch when he’s calm and ready. Love that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bro i was NOT expecting a flashback on how Millie met Blitz, also Millies design slays so hard
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the way I gasped.
I also didn’t realize how much I needed an episode focusing on these twos friendship until now. Like FINALLY a Millie episode that doesn’t suck!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little thing i realized but notice how Blitzo doesn’t make a sex joke at this. Blitzo. Not making a provocative joke. Really just goes to show how UNCOMFORTABLE and SCARED he is. I physically recoil every time I see this it’s gross
Tumblr media
Those flashback scenes were also just so brutal. Like chaining his horns so he’s FORCED to watch is so psychotic I can’t.
its kinda sad that Blitzo’s whole motivation for doing this is to distract himself from his feelings, when that’s what he’s literally forced to confront by Ronaldo.
Tumblr media
Love a possession story. I can really appreciate how Millie does not believe Ronaldo for a second, she knows that Blitzo would never think that of her and she trusts him enough to be confident in it. Nice subversion, you go girl.
Tumblr media
This was so needlessly brutal and funny, they really went all out with this one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah I think that’s all I wanted to day, just again i loved this one and it was definantly worth the multiple-month wait. Though my Hyperfixation has mostly died im hopeful that it will resurrect soon. We’ll have to wait and see.

Hi I see hazbin is still on top of your fandoms ; I was wondering what do you think poly between Blitzo and Stolas be like ? This could be a hc or this a ramble of your thoughts in general?
if you wanna go dark and toxic you can do ; cause me personally think their relationship isn’t the healthiest in the show ; love to hear your thoughts
if I read it wrong your not doing request you can ignore this , no worries , sorry about that , I got confused hahah
I am not a Stolitz fan... but I'll see what I can do.
Blitzø HCs
Stolas HCs
Yandere Blitzø + Stolas Sharing
Pairing: Romantic - Poly/Rivalry mentioned
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Possessive behavior, Coercion, Abuse of power, Clingy behavior, Mature themes mentioned, Toxic relationship dynamics, Stalking, Dubious relationship.
Tumblr media
I definitely agree their relationship isn't going to be healthy.
Things are already kinda toxic between them and complicated.
Them wanting a third just sounds like more trouble.
Blitz is often absorbed in self-pity and tends to distract himself with intimacy.
Meanwhile Stolas is absorbed in the fantasy of what goes on in his relationship.
They're both rather unhealthy with their issues.
So... safe to say, you're going to have some issues with them.
Even more so when they're yandere.
Let me give a summary of how I view them in my previously written HCs.
Blitz is an obsessive stalker yandere who is fiercely protective/controlling of his obsession.
The moment you leave his sight, Blitz has a tendency to panic.
His whole life he's wanted that domestic sort of life with his obsession.
He craves connection, even if he originally tries to push you away.
But if you manage to stay despite what he says... then you have a clingy Imp on your hands.
Essentially, once attached he's hard to get rid of since he fears being alone.
Stolas has a similar fear... In fact, the two act rather similarly.
Stolas has always had a rose-tinted glasses view on relationships.
He's invested in soap operas and has always been rather lonely, forced into a marriage to a demon he doesn't enjoy.
I'd say Stolas is a delusional yet possessive yandere, one who craves the attention of the one he loves.
They're both rather clingy with a fear of being alone.
Which is probably one reason they're still trying to make this relationship work, they're all they have.
Well, until they meet you in these HCs.
To make things easier, I imagine you'd be an imp or succubus/incubus.
This allows Blitz someone to relate too yet also has you vulnerable enough in Hell's Hierarchy to be controlled.
I can see both of them being manipulative.
Perhaps one of them wanted to try the idea of a third... Y'know, to spice things up?
Only for the two of them to be surprisingly attached after a couple nights shared with you three.
Your bond originally just started out in the bedroom.
Stolas did it for Blitz's sake... but got used to you as you adapted to the two of them.
Essentially, I see the two getting a third by looking for a third bedroom partner... and realizing they have a connection to you.
While you originally thought the two would contact you just for a tryst or two...
You're surprised when they start asking for what essentially amounts to dates.
You're flustered but you humor them... They're no doubt masking it as hangouts.
When Blitz isn't busy, he snatches you away to get to know him.
When Stolas wants a break from Stella, he asks if you want to get together and talk.
I like to think the two share you with one on one time.
They aren't jealous of you... they could always just hang out with each other.
Yet the two also enjoy just trading you between each other.
The two are careful with ensnaring you.
They know they both want to keep you, so they try to get you attached.
Stolas probably buys you gifts, sometimes intimate in nature.
Blitz is often the one to hound you for nights on the town.
They slowly make your relationship less just intimacy... and more emotional.
You're often pushed into 'dates' and not left alone by either of them.
It doesn't help that they're both needy.
Your phone often blows up with texts and calls due to them.
I can even see them coerce their obsession into being their third, using emotional blackmail to keep your attention.
You sometimes wish they just kept each other occupied.
But, no, the two are so desperate for the love and attention you can give they don't dare leave you alone.
They're both affectionate... although it's a bit much.
Affection isn't innocent for long with them.
Like any demon, I can see them being possessive.
They're both intimidating, too.
Blitz himself has killed others countless times.
Stolas even enjoys scaring others, if not outright killing them too due to his power.
So, if anyone hit on you or discouraged you from interacting with them...
They won't let it slide.
I feel they're okay with sharing as long as they both agree to making you their third.
Yet if you want drama, imagine what happens when the two end up breaking it off?
Well, now they can't seem to share.
It would be like some sort of custody battle, the two now both wanting to make you their new partner without the other.
Honestly... these two are so dramatic at times, too.
They'd do anything for your attention.
They're both capable of murder, intimidation, and manipulation.
Blitz doesn't mind the idea of making a bloodbath for you.
Stolas can, but prefers not to.
Stolas is definitely the one who likes to focus less on murder and rather on other aspects of your relationship.
I think they can both kidnap technically... yet I can't figure out where they'd put you.
If you want the relationship to continue to the end of Season 2... They'd definitely have more control over you if you all lived with Blitz.
Even without Stolas' powers.
Honestly, I like the idea of Blitz tempting you into moving in with him.
He has Stolas with him... might as well keep you where they can watch you, right?
Blitz is the stalker that keeps an eye on you.
Stolas seems more domestic, wanting to put in romantic elements to the relationship while Blitz is the more violent enforcer.
I feel it's difficult to leave them... they have a good grip on your feelings.
The two no doubt keep you close in bed too....
Overall, I see the relationship filled with subtle coercion and manipulation.
The two are smothering, both craving a love they haven't been able to obtain...
But maybe you'll be their chance...
Maybe you'll balance things out?

Some Millie and IMP Thoughts
Tumblr media
I love Helluva Boss's new episode for all the reasons everyone else does! In particular, my favorite part is Millie getting fleshed out more.
I have always liked Millie and I disagree with people saying she is badly written. That said, the focus she got this episode adds a ton of depth to both her, her role in the series and the dynamics within IMP.
BLITZ AND IMP
Blitz is the titular character and protagonist of the series. He is the boss in Helluva Boss. As a result, everyone else is in the story for his sake. In particular, IMP is Blitz's found family:
Blitzo: Look, the point is, Loona is a valued member of our family, and we don't get rid of family. Moxxie: We aren't a family, sir! You are the boss! We are the employees!
Through them (and Stolas) Blitz gets to explore his ghosts and to heal. How is that so?
Loona and Moxxie seem to me two sides of the same coin:
-Loona is like Blitz, as she is told by the world she has no real value:
Adoption Center Lady: Oh, her? That's just Loona. What a nightmare. Serious attitude problems. She'll be out of our hair next month when she ages out. Good riddance, if you ask me. She'll never amount to anything much.
So, Blitz latches on her and adopts her. He showers her with the love he never got from his father.
-Moxxie is like Blitz, as he is abused by his father and loses his mother. As a result, he grows up unsure of himself and in need of love and approval:
Blitzo: Well, I'm glad everything ended up okay. Good to know we both have daddy issues, Mox.
However, Blitz often treats him poorly, downplays his abilities and mocks him.
So, Loona and Moxxie are Blitz's mirrors, as he projects on them in opposite ways. He treats Loona like he wishes his father treated him. He treats Moxxie similarly to how his father treated him. Obviously, Blitz isn't an abuser like Buckzo. He loves Moxxie and more importantly he is not his father. However, he and Moxxie do have a mentor-mentee dynamic and it is clear as day Moxxie wants Blitz's approval:
Blitzo: Gonna be honest, Moxxie- Not too bad for your first solo mission. Moxxie: Reeeeeally, siiiir? Blitzo: Nooo, no, not really. You're a fucking disgrace.
Still, Blitz is often unable to give it to him, despite the fact he clearly cares. This is also why Loona and Moxxie get often on each other's nerves:
Loona: How am I supposed to smell anything in this city? Moxxie: Can't you even do one thing right? Loona: Can't you finally do something about how fat you are?
Moxxie is the most critical of Blitz's favoritism towards Loona and is the one insisting Blitz calls her out on her poor attitude towards clients. This is not by chance. They are just like bickering siblings :''')
In a sense, this episode even subtly confirms this foiling:
Blitz: Loonie's perfect, and Moxxie's… probably got some good traits too and I'm sure we'll figure them out eventually.
Loona is perfect and Moxxie has no good traits. What about seeing the world in black and white?
So, where does Millie fit in all of this?
Blitzo: So I'm your best friend, huh? Millie: What do you think? Blitzo: I think…I- I've never had a real friend that I didn't wanna fuck.
She is the only one Blitz does not project over, so they grow into genuine friends. They are equals, value each other and love each other. So, Millie freely states what Loona and Moxxie also think, but can't properly convey:
Millie: He (Blitz) gave me so much…A career, a husband, a future. And now…He's my best friend. Blitzo: You… you don't hate me? Millie: Naw, never.
Blitz gave her, Moxxie and Loona a better future. He is their precious boss and a treasured family member.
MILLIE'S THEME
Helluva Boss has two main themes:
Relationships
Classism
Moxxie is linked to Blitz's unhealthy way to build relationships. Their bond is a complicated mix of friendship, family love, professional interest and a little bit of possessiveness on Blitz's part. That's why it is so complicated and contradictive. Millie ties into this as Moxxie's wife, since M&M's relationship is Blitz's ideal one.
Still, this episode makes clear Millie's true thematic relevance is for the topic of classism:
Millie: We… heh. We don't deserve this. We're just Wrathians, Blitzo. Muscle. It's all we're good for, all I'm good for. It's why you hired me. Any demon good at making a buck is welcome in Lust or Greed, but here? Demons like us ain't cut out for this.
Classism permeates Hell, which is built on a strong hierarchy. All characters have suffered the consequences of this, while being influenced by it at the same time. For example:
Blitz is an imp, who has been looked down and victimized by society. However, he also embraces classist prejudices and uses them as an excuse to push Stolas away.
Stolas is a Goetia, who has been a prisoner of his family's expectations and of his role in society. However, he is also unconsciously discriminating towards imps. He has no ill will towards them, but he calls them silly names and belittles them
Millie is the same. She is a wrathian imp of humble origins. In a sense, she is a stereotypical imp. She is incredibly strong, was born and lived the majority of her life in Wrath, aka imps' original ring. She fits the expectations of both her family and society. However, she deep down wishes for more, which is why she leaves the family ranch to become an assassin. This choice is already seen as subversive by her family, who expected her to stay home, so she could help with the family business. However, Millie herself has no high expectations for her future:
Millie: Bullshit! Who sent you? Millie: Who are you working for?! Blitzo: What? You don't believe me? Millie: Imps don't work for themselves, asshole.
She still sees herself stuck in Wrath. She will be one of many underpaid goons, who work for higher ranking demons. A life a little bit more adventurous than the one at the farm. Still, nothing extraordinary. Then, she meets Blitz:
Millie: Who's that? Your boss? Hah! Blitzo: HA he fucking wishes. No, I work for myself, lady.
Blitz is the first one, who recognizes her potential and who believes she can become more than what she is. He gives her the chance to explore the world outside the Wrath Ring and brings her up to Pride. When Millie doubts herself and her role in society, he is the one to reassure her:
Blitzo: Millie, I have spent too much of my time, energy, and holes into setting this up for us to entertain your bullshit. I brought you into this company for a reason, okay? You're tougher, smarter, and frankly more capable than anyone I've ever met in any ring.
Blitz gives Millie a new life, where she is free to be herself and to choose a husband she would have never chosen, if she had stayed home with her family.
Thanks to Blitz and her work at IMP she is by this point a different person than the one she was. She does not completely fit in Wrath anymore:
Sallie May: Heh, yeah, I mean, with so many exciting things here, it's no wonder you never make your way back home. SHIT! That slipped out. Millie: ..What? Sallie May: You know… the Wrath Ring, all that dirt and rust and boring nothingness. Not much of a thriving club scene down there, why visit that, right?
Which is why she is now slowly overcoming her prejudices:
Millie: Oh yeah! Y'all haven't met my boss Blitzo! And his hellhound! Loona: I'm not just his hellhound.
It is not by chance Millie is the one calling Loona Blitz's Hellbound, as if she were a pet. Moreover, it is not by chance she does so, while talking with her family. It is probably normal for wrathian imps to see hellbounds as property. So, when she visits home, she goes back to a familiar language and mindset, without even realizing how offensive it is. That is why it is relevant this episode has Millie share a bonding moment with Loona, where she calls her by name:
Millie: Thanks. Loona.
She is not only overcoming her self-insecurities, but she is also starting to see other demons differently. She is growing not only more happy, but also more open minded. All thanks to Blitz's impact on her life:
Millie: Most of my life I bought into the idea that all I could ever be was a simple farm girl. Or best an underpaid goon. Until I met some knucklehead who never gave a fuck about what anyone else said he could or couldn't be. He made me believe he could be anything. And that made me feel like I could be anything, too.
CHARLIE AND BLITZ
Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are twin series. They are complementary stories, with different focuses and a shared heart. This is shown in Charlie and Blitz, their respective protagonists. They are opposites.
Charlie is a royal demon, a young rich girl, who is optimistic and idealistic. She is obsessed with seeing the good in others. Blitz is instead a humble imp, an adult man, who is cynical and genre-savy. He sees only the worst in people to protect himself. However, both disrupt the status quo:
Charlie decides to completely change the hierarchy between hell and heaven. She is breaking the system the world is built on and re-writing the laws of the universe.
Blitz changes things in little ways. He is not trying to reform society, but he still acts in ways society does not expect, so he subverts hierarchies and transforms people around him.
That's something that comes up several times:
Striker: Boss, huh…? Ohhh, so YOU'RE the bold imp to start his own killing biz? Blitzo: Yeah, well if you're good at somethin', you should probably capitalize. Striker: Not many Imps start businesses on their own. That's pretty impressive, sir.
Crimson: Oh, I'm sure. You got to be Blitz, with the silent "o", right? I've heard a lot of good things about you and your work. Blitzo: Really? What kind of shit has Moxxie been spreading about me? I'll fucking kill you Moxxie, don't you fucking test me! Crimson: No, no! From all over. Looks like you're building a bit of a name for yourself here, kid.
Both Striker and Crimson comment on Blitz's business, in two moments that are to be seen as parallels:
-Striker says so, as the group visits Millie's family. Millie's family is a relatively happy one, as they all clearly love each other. However, it is an economically struggling one:
Joe: We lost our old farm hand to one of them terrors last week.
Millie's parents are loving, but traditionalists and stuck in the old ways.
-Crimson says so, as the group meets him and discovers he is Moxxie's father. Crimson is an imp, who built an empire. Moreover, he is not scared to go against the hierarchy and to challenge even the deadly sins:
Crimson: You probably just asked if I know who I'm dealing with. And, oh yes, I know. The weakest and most non-threatening of the Sins. The king who will do whatever it takes to save the worst-kept secret in all of Hell. We both know you won't risk anything happening to the clown. So be a good little bitch boy, and do the thing. My lawyers will be over shortly with the contract of demands. You have until the witching hour to sign it. Hueheheheheheheh!
Still, he sacrifices everything else to greed. In order to climb up, he destroys everyone around him. He killed his wife and abused Moxxie, so his son leaves him the first chance he gets.
In other words, Blitz offers Millie the opportunity to social climb and he offers Moxxie true friendship and comraderie. He gives them what they miss and want.
STRIKER
Finally, this episode indirectly adds a new layer to Striker's character and his role in the series. So, Striker is clearly everyone's dark foil.
Specifically, he is Blitz's jungian shadow aka what Blitz represses:
Striker: Blitzo, come on. You know, the two of us are superior than most of our kind. And you were so above suckin' on a disgusting, rich, pompous Goetia, only to sneak topside for scraps and work for bitter sinners, who could care less who you are, when you could be slaying Overlords.
He embodies Blitz's darkest side and tempts him to give in to it. For example, he backs Blitz up in his fight with Fizz over Royal Demons:
Striker: As far as I'm concerned, you two are BOTH embarrassments to our kind for meddlin' with blue-bloods to begin with. But at least loud-mouth here has the sense to only fuck his rich bitch, instead of bein' a little purse dog. Blitzo: Oh, great. The fuckin' supremacist is on my side, wonderful. Fizzarolli: Neither of you filth bags know what you're even talkin' about. If you think you're superior to ANYONE, then you're no better than any royal— Striker: DON'T. You. Dare… Finish that sentence, clown…
And let's say it is not by chance Striker is burnt and probably gets some scars the same episode it is revealed Blitz accidentally set his family circus on fire:
Tumblr media
He is clearly meant to embody the anti-theme, both when it comes to relationships and classism. He is who Blitz might become, if he gave in to his worst instincts. That is why he is the character physically threatening Stolas's life and calling him out on his privilege at the same time:
Striker: YOU. Don't get to talk over me! I don't have to listen to your bullshit! All you royals ever do is try to talk over us!
He challenges Stolas to see the darkness in Blitz he keeps ignoring. Moreover, Striker's attempt on Stolas only works because Blitz himself does not warn Stolas, believing that with his powers the goetia can easily survive an imp's attack:
Blitzo: Stolas got what? How?… He can get hurt?
In short, Striker is a key character for both Blitz and Stolas. That said, he does foil also Moxxie and Millie. (Which is why they get to fight him twice, just like Blitz - they lose the first time and win the second).
In his debut episode, he is openly juxtaposed to Moxxie. He is the ideal imp, the one Millie's parents would have liked their daughter to marry. He is a great farmer and an even better fighter. He is strong and charming and easily defeats Moxxie at everything, even music. That said, it turns out Moxxie is a far better person and husband and gets to call out Millie's parents on it, gaining their respect in the process:
Moxxie: Y'know, she protected me. And maybe I'm not a strong beefy dickhead, but Millie has the strength enough for both of us! You two are getting on her case about being hurt by a psychopath you hired?! Shaaaaame on you!
Ghostf***ckers instead makes Striker and Millie's foiling obvious. Both are wrathian assassins, who work as goons for others:
Millie: Not exactly a shortage of imp assassins in Wrath. Reputation is everything.
Here lies Striker's contradiction. He keeps saying he hates the hierarchy, but in the end he acts exactly as society expects him to:
Stolas: Well, you seem to be forgetting; you are working for a royal right now!
He hates royals, but takes orders from them. Even when he decides to leave Wrath, he goes to Greed, so exactly where "imps able to make a buck are welcome", according to Millie:
Crimson: HEY! Hick-for-hire! I said watch 'em, not fuck 'em. Keep ya hands off the merchandise!
See? Striker acts like some big shot, but in the end he operates within the system, rather than subverting it. Both Fizz and Blitz are far more successful at overcoming the hierarchy than he is. Fizz does not take orders from royals, but becomes a romantic and business partner to one. Blitz does not resort depending on royals or imps for his job. Rather, he takes orders only from himself and invents a new business.
Striker says not everyone gets the chance to live in Pride:
Striker: Look. Not every ring is some fancy-ass city, with some fancy-ass mansion, that only fancy-ass royals get to live in. Some of us have hard lives to live.
And yet, he is offered it by Blitz, just like Millie:
Blitzo: Isn't this guy great? It's gonna be nice workin' with him. Yeaaaah! I asked him if he wants to join I.M.P.
If he had joined IMP, he could have found a family, a strong business partner and could have embraced a new life. He did not and became IMP's enemy instead. On the contrary, Millie did and is now a happier and better person.
WHAT ABOUT LOONA?
Tumblr media
Personally, I think Loona is gonna be key in Blitz's development, as both her past, arc and relationship with her dad are very well set up. If Moxxie focuses on relationships, whereas Millie on classism, Loona will probably offer a synthesis of both themes:
Loona is Blitz's adoptive daughter and the first member of his new found family.
Loona is a hellbound, so a demon even lower than imps.
I am very curious to see how her story develops and I am looking forward to discover more about her past and to see if her foiling with Bee gets explored more. After this episode I am more curious than ever!

Note
Do you mind giving a recap for those of us who dropped the show ages ago?
Episode begins with Millie happily coming in to work.
Blitzo is spiraling hard over the fact that his rapist wrote him off, blowing all the company's money/M&M's pensions on taxidermy owls (that he makes Loona burn) and horse plates while gorging on cheese whiz and TV in his office. This has been going on for a month.
Millie hasn't been paid in a month. Moxxie's melting down trying to make the numbers add up.
Client who was killed by a ghost comes in, Millie says humans only go to one of two places when they die and ghosts don't exist. Blitz is super jazzed for it though, so Blitz and Millie take the job.
Blitz dresses and larps as the sexy ghosthunter from the show he likes. About a million unfunny sex jokes ensue.
Blitzo uses a vibrator as a ghost tracking device. I wish I was kidding.
Rolando, the guy from the leaks, works at the hotel. He's voiced by John Waters.
Blitz runs around the hotel in ghosthunter drag with a "ghost sucker" machine, disturbs a naked elderly couple who swear at him, a poorly done Scooby Doo chase scene ensues.
I can't stress enough how unfunny the first half of this episode is.
Millie just kind of takes all of this because "he needs this", eventually snaps and she and Blitz split up.
John Waters attacks Blitz with black goo and visions of people from his life telling him he sucks, including his mother.
Blah blah blah nothing happens, Millie finds Blitz curled up sobbing and a flashback ensues.
Millie used to be a total fucking badass assassin from Wrath until Blitz walked in, grappled with her, and in a scene that feels vaguely ripped off from Firefly, hires her. This is how she met Moxxie.
The fact that Blitz worked for himself is unprecedented, shame how little it's come up over the course of the show.
We see Blitz moving them all into their current headquarters, Millie says they don't deserve it, Blitz tells her to knock it off because he's poured blood, sweat, and sex into this and yes they do.
Millie's got some hangups over only being the hired muscle but fortunately doesn't try to hang herself on screen over it like in the leaks.
Millie relies on Blitz, looks up to him, was surprised to see him brought so low by the fact that the guy who coerced him into a sexual deal while listening to him be shot at doesn't want to date him anymore.
No, they don't address that last part. Of course not.
They realize their guy is a "fester demon."
Something something whatever.
Ronald McDonald possesses Blitz, makes him watch more footage of himself "ruining peoples' lives" ala A Clockwork Orange. This mostly consists of Stolas having his feelings hurt by being rightfully called out for his sexual abuse of Blitz.
I guess Cash was the one to tell Blitz Fizz didn't want to see him in the hospital but it's a blink and you miss it scene.
Millie pounds the shit out of Rolaids because she knows Blitz can take it, Blitz horks him up into the pool, then electrocutes him.
They get out of there because "hotels suck." It's not funny.
Millie calls Blitz her best friend. No indication of this has ever appeared in the show before.
Blitz has never had a friend he didn't want to fuck before. The show's words, not mine.
Blitz is done trying to muscle in on M&M's relationship.
Blitz is still sad over his rapist.
Moxxie thought he balanced their books but didn't.
The end.
Viv is still transphobic.

After 1 billion years I come back with Hazbin hotel redesigns || prt 1 ||
<This post was made by a HH/HB critical person! I do not like the shows and if you do like them, please avoid interacting with my posts!>
I have a lot to say so cut lol
Tumblr media
Probably my favourite redesigns ngl lol
Charlie
To put it nicely her original design was boring and conveyed little to nothing about her character, so I put her in an outfit that easily conveys that she is in a musical, I mean, if you saw someone wearing that unironically, you'd think either they're queer or a musical kid right? Exactly.
Used pink and purples to convey a more friendly figure. I've also seen purple being used to convey pride, and that's super smart so I did that too lol
Red head cause Lucifer is too, gave her a bit of blonde for Lilith. Also made her hair slightly curlier cause Lucifer has been depicted having curly hair.
Ok so I know I made her complexion and face in general look very different but I have my reasons:
Charlie is a child of an angel and a human, whether or not they've fallen to hell, those children in mythology are known as Nephilim. They are giants who possess great strength. Now I hardly made Charlie a giant, but I did want to make her look obviously a little. Uncanny. To show she isn't just a hybrid, but a horrifyingly unintentional one. So I made her eyes a piercing yellow inside red, and also made them very wide, her mouth a little too long, and skin a little too grey.
Gave her a tail so she looks less human \/(•-•)\/
She's a Princess. So a crown, because you would not be able to tell she's royalty based on her proper design.
Got some meat on them bones!!!!!!!! She's a Princess!!!!!!? Royalty eat well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
vAggie
I have one hundred and one issues with Aggie's design (and her name)
To start with her name. I hate it. Adam calling her that is one thing, but her continuing to use the name after falling, and not knowing the meaning?????, just left me feeling like she was stupid, which she isn't, but the show made her seem to be. So instead she gets Blitzo treatment; she got rid of the v and now just calls herself Aggie.
I made her look less human, or less demon, she's a fallen angel, she should at least give one or two clues to that. On that, I tried to convey her overcompensating trying to look like a sinner, dunno if it translates but idrc
Hair wings. That's it.
She covers most of her skin (see:gloves) due to very obviously angelic scarring. Only Charlie has seen her scars, but she chooses not to acknowledge the clear origin of them.
Gave her cute little bows, because she's allowed to be bitchy and a little femme. They're also in the dreaded red/pink colour vivzie just fucking looovvesss, because it's not a bad colour when used in moderation.
If you look closely you can see her armour underneath her shirt, she always wears it, no matter where she is or what she's doing.
Yellow because she's trying to look welcoming to humans and she doesn't know what humans like.
No X over the eye, it looks cool but it just doesn't translate well to my design/au
She has so much hair guys, half of the reason she kept it so short is because of how much she has.
Muscular. She is a warrior angel (a Powers angel? Those are the ones who fight demons? But they're also high ranking and idk if it suits her fully... Will think more about this) anyways, she's an angel that fought and that was her sole purpose, of course she'd be muscular.

Ok onto Alastor and Niffty ….

The Other Possible Stepfather and Daughter
Because it may be awhile until we see Blitz and Via interacting, I wonder what (if any) relationship Loona and Stolas could develop, living under the same roof, working at the same job and basically being two of the most closest individuals in Blitz's life currently.
I've seen some harsh takes, some claiming that Stolas simply thought of Loona as Blitz's pet, not knowing she was his daughter until the hug moment in Mastermind, ect, ect.
The current storyline hasn't given us many clues or interactions, but here's what I've gathered and some of my own thoughts:
Tumblr media
The first among the few times these two shared the screen was in Truth Seekers were they don't really interact but Loona manages to record Stolas in his full demon form as he possesses and terrorizes their captors.
Tumblr media
She's among the group as Stolas scolds them for getting caught, but Blitz, Moxxie and Millie seemed to receive most of his focus for these few seconds.
Tumblr media
Grimoire in hand, Loona leaves the portal before Stolas can pick up Blitz to have an exchange of words and tongues.
Tumblr media
Seeing Stars is when Loona shines as the only one with the nose and social media skills to locate Stolas' runaway daughter. (Nevermind that she was the one who allowed Octavia to break in and steal the Grimoire, because Blitz is certainly not going to tell Stolas this.)
And despite being a low ranking demon by Hell's standards, she's the only one besides Stolas who can take on a human disguise.
Tumblr media
(not that anyone comments on this in universe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, until the group is separated, they share a few scenes, but no dialogue.
Later when Loona does finds Via, she defends Stolas a little, while also reflecting on her own relationship with Blitz.
Tumblr media
"You know, your dad's really worried about you."
"..try to cut your dad some slack."
That said, Loona still decided her own father needed a nice kick to the groan to make things right upon seeing him next, something which seems to freaks Stolas out a bit:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
But Loona seems to brighten upon seeing seeing Via, whom she recently bonded with, making peace with her dad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Western Energy, Stolas' kidnapping takes place the same time as Loona's hellbies shot appointment, which took Blitz 5 years to book. During their phone call, Blitz explains this, to which Stolas responses:
Tumblr media
"Oh, ha, ha. Well, I do agree that is very important…But, I-" Before Striker takes his phone away.
Which, while not the best reaction, is pretty short to base a lot of opinions about. Does Stolas know what a hellbies shot is? I'd say definitely not. Does Stolas believe he's in real danger at this point? Seemingly not, since he utters "Oh, shit. Am I in danger right now?" in realization after Striker crushes his phone.
Full Moon opens with Loona waking up to her father making breakfast while singing about his "Nice arrangement," situationship with Stolas,
Tumblr media
But upon hearing at work that Stolas been giving Blitz excuses to not see him, she brings up the idea that Stolas is getting bored of him.
Tumblr media
Blitzo: "Whaaaat?"
Loona: "Yeah, man. If someone wants to see you less and less, big red flag. If they give you chances to ditch, they probably want out themselves. Just wanna be more passive aggressive about it. Dicks."
Later in the episode, Loona is seen with Moxxie and Millie, following Blitz, in which they encounter and fight the members of C.H.E.R.U.B.
Loona: "Find ya? We were already following our dumbass boss to make sure he doesn't fuck up and lose our meal ticket."
Unfortunately the falling out of that night leads to Blitz abandoning his job duties and spending all the company's money on frivolous purchases including 300 taxidermy owls that he makes Loona burn.
Tumblr media
Blitz eventually is able to recover emotionally, but his involvement with the grimoire is used to bring him to trial, sentencing him to death until Stolas intercepts,
Tumblr media
taking the blame and losing his power, title and home as a result.
Tumblr media
Upon hearing that Stolas needed a place to live, Blitz walks him back to his and Loona's apartment.
Tumblr media
Blitz is greeted with cheers from the crowd, while they throw things at Stolas. Loona, rather wisely, tries to step away from the two, less she gets pelted with anything herself.
But when they are back home, she takes the time to embrace the father she nearly lost:
Tumblr media
"Hey, um. I'm so glad you're okay."
"I love you, Dad."
Already in a depressed state, Stolas is further reminded that he is separated from his own daughter and appears to shut down physically and mentally, resulting in Blitz helping him clean off in the bath. During that, he hears a knock.
Tumblr media
Unprompted, Loona gives Blitz two pieces of her own clothes so that Stolas has something to change into, apart from his old stained royal attire. Stolas gets a lot of use out of this outfit until Blitz attempts to purchase him more (which instead turns into a theft).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weeks pass, and when Sinsmas comes, Blitz brings Stolas into the office with him and Loona, with the intention of Stolas helping or learning Loona's job.
Stolas is none too pleased about going to work, but gives a nervous wave to the room when Blitz introduces him and a second wave to Loona when Blitz asks her to teach Stolas how to "secretate".
Tumblr media
Loona: *sighs* "It's literally this: Ring, ring. 'Hello? I.M.P. Yeah, we can kill that asshole. Wanna schedule an appointment? Thursday cool? See you then, dipshit.' Click. It's easy as sin."
However, after being placed at the desk, Stolas manages to have a breakdown upon realizing that he no longer has any of his personal wealth. An action that doesn't go over well with his new coworkers, all whom are all among the lower or middle class money bracket:
Tumblr media
After an aborted mission, the group return to find Stolas missing and discover he went back to his mansion in an attempt to see his daughter. However, in the process, he is captured by Andrealphus. Blitz instructs the group to separate before fighting and Loona makes the first attempt to free Stolas:
Tumblr media
Andrealphus is ultimately defeated, by Stolas is left devastated by Octavia informing him that she no longer wants to see him.
Tumblr media
Blitz, Loona and Stolas return home, where Loona announces plans for the rest of the holiday.
Tumblr media
Loona: "Whew. That was intense. I'm gonna see if my friends can still come tonight. I need some drinks after what happened today."
Despite being preoccupied with Stolas once again shutting down, Blitz makes sure to give Loona the okay. Seemingly, he spends the rest of the evening with Stolas until the party starts. But someone does gradually put Sinsmas decorations throughout the apartment.
Tumblr media
And we've reached our end.
So, Loona and Stolas. Not many interactions, but I don't see any bad blood between these two.
Loona appears to have some respect that Stolas tries to be a good father. And although Stolas' relationship with her own adopted father started out in a very messy transactional manner, their disastrous fallout following the Full Moon episode, and fomer's actions in Mastermind might have clued her in that from Blitz's perspective, Stolas had become more than the company's "meal ticket".
Loaning out her own clothes at the end of Mastermind, speaks volumes, even for someone like Loona who doesn't hesitate to speak her mind. Her father suddenly brings his complicated, homeless ex home to live with them, but Loona shows her support.
She keeps her space, living her own life, but still supports her father as he begins something new in his own.
Stolas seems nervous around Loona. I think, despite them living together, Loona may spend the majority of the time in her room, while Blitz is constantly keeping watch over Stolas. Blitz's affection for Loona as his daughter is quite obvious. Stolas was even witness to it as each ran to their daughters at the end of Seeing Stars, so I doubt he would be unaware of how important Loona is to Blitz. I think that that may be where some of the nervousness, which wasn't present in their early scenes, comes from.
Time will tell if these two will have reason to interact or work together in the coming seasons. Or if Loona's brief bonding with Stolas' daughter will come up again.

it was hard for her to start discussing her feelings with you
she thinks opening up is weak, and she want to be strong because she knows hell is one of the worst places to be weak

there is no way she is taking you into the human realm tho
it is dangerous enough for her and she would tear down herself if anything ever happened to you while you were there
but she is more than happy to tell you bout all her adventures when she gets back tho sometimes she even brings you back something cool she found that she think you would like
she remembers every small thing about you

HELLUVA BOSS DEVIATING FROM ITS ORIGINAL PREMISE FUNDAMENTALLY DESTROYED THE SHOW
So, it has already been discussed many times in HB critical community that HB deviated from its premise after S1 and that anyone with an once of media literacy can tell that you can't describe it in any way other than horrible writing.
Now, I'm going to ask you this for a second - imagine that you haven't seen S1, the pilot or read the premise of Helluva Boss anywhere. Imagine that you watch all (available) episodes of S2 and are asked to write a premise about it on some movie review website. How would you briefly describe what happens in S2?
Oh, you can't or are having major trouble doing it? Don't worry, you are not media illiterate, my friend. That is the case because IT'S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL WHAT HELLUVA BOSS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT ANYMORE.
There are many flaws that your writing could possess - inconsistent characterization, too fast/slow pacing and so on. However, they do not automatically derail your work. It is very much possible to recognize those faults, learn from them and do better in the future.
But the premise of your work is its literal BONES. You build up the plot and characters based on it. You just can't expect your show to be good, if you tear out its basis. Of course the pacing, character development and how plot points are wrapped up in HB is horrible - how can anything function without the very thing that holds it all together?
And I MEAN that the premise of HB completely disappears, not shifts or changes. Like, seriously, what the hell is HB supposed to be about now?
Stolitz?
Their interactions indicate zero meaningful development and are tediously spaced out to the point that it's hard to care about their relationship. It is made even worse by the fact that Stolas, just like in S1, still keeps pressuring Blitzo, despite him being clearly uncomfortable.
Blitzo making amends with people he hurt?
Even ignoring S1's nonexistent buildup of this plotline (Blitzo looking at photos on his phone doesn't count, since it's literally the ONLY moment that barely suggests it), there's no buildup in S2 either, when it comes to both Barbie and Fizz. It is certainly not helped by the fact that Barbie just vanishes after Unhappy Campers and Blitzo and Fizz's beef is resolved in a single episode.
Any other plotlines of S2, like Fizz's job, Crimson, Striker, or Stolas and Stella's separation are just too small or insignificant to be considered part of the supposed premise, INCLUDING the assassination business, which arguably takes up the least amount of time of aspects of the show listed.
It's no surprise that Helluva Boss is slowly crumbling. At this point, it's just a paralysed zombie who completely forgot what it once was. And it's damn sad to watch, because the show comforted me during some dark times and, despite Viv being an awful person, I truly hoped for HB to be great.
