No healing for this curvy girl in Bridgerton season 3 (slight spoilers)
I was so looking forward to this season and seeing a woman with curves get honest to goodness romantic sex scenes.
For so long the sex scenes with curvy girls in film have been shown with a tone of humor or disgust or pity.
And Bridgerton season 3 was supposed to change all of that. Except it didn’t. Not for me, anyway.
Because while other Bridgerton heroines have been stripped clean of their clothes, with their entire body on full display, Penelope was not.
In all her scenes she was never completely undressed save for one brief moment that isn’t even shown fully. We get one quick glimpse of her glorious bosom and then she delegated to being covered up with a blanket. Colin goes so far as to pull the blanket to cover her up more at one point!
We don’t get to see her beautiful curves. They’re continuously hidden like it’s a shameful thing to show a woman whose waist isn’t small, with a stomach that jiggles, thighs that don’t fit neatly in a man’s hands, and breasts that aren’t small and perky.
What I got out of Bridgerton season 3 is that yes, you curvy girls can have a love interest who isn’t also plus size, but only because he thinks you’re interesting, not because you’re beautiful. And yes, being interesting is going to last longer than beauty, but is it too much to ask to be both?
It seems even today on a super progressive show, the answer is still “yes”.

It will never not baffle me how hard society tries to insist that fatness is an abnormality. The average western woman wears plus size clothing. One of the smallest garments on the scale is called a medium. Most people with anorexia are in the overweight bmi category, yet somehow that's known as "atypical anorexia". Fatness is often labeled the cause of a number of diseases, but there are literally no diseases exclusive to fat bodies. Looking at movies and television, you'd think the world was 98% thin people. It's not.
My point isn't that if it was pretty rare to be fat, fatphobia would be okay. Of course not.
My point is that we're surrounded by all these artificial indicators that fatness is unnatural and uncommon and it's just not true?? Humans are not always thin and we've never all been thin and we're not all meant to be thin. Fat humans are a normal type of human. Fatness is a feature, not a bug.

If you're all about body positivity but make fun of men with hairline receiding or bald, fat, with a beer belly etc, no you're not.
Pretty sick and tired of seeing people laugh and trash men who are not tall skinny queer looking white dudes and be like "everyone is beautiful" in the same breath.

It's Been a Long Time Coming, But I Finally Have a Positive Body Image
'Too Fat, Too Skinny, Too Short, Too Tall, Too Anything.' There's a sense that we're all 'TOO' something, and we're all not enough. This is Life. Our bodies change. Our minds change. Our hearts change." -Emma Stone

2 days later, and I'm still gushing over what my nephew said to me 🥰
Context: I had breakfast with the entire family on Sunday, and the subject of body fat was brought up. I mentioned I was fat because I just love food that much, and my nephew said "You're not fat, you're full of love". Not an excuse to not lose weight, but it made me so happy 🥹💖

Building A Healthy Body Image
Body image is the combination of how someone perceives their body and their thoughts about it. Positive body image is linked to satisfaction with one’s appearance, whereas negative body image is linked to dissatisfaction.
What Leads To A Negative Body Image In People?
Negative body image involves feeling bad about yourself or beating yourself up over your appearance. A negative body image can mean being extremely harsh and judgmental of yourself to such an extent that you begin to accept a voice within, which in turn affects the way you view your value and worth as a person.
Having a poor body image can cause dieting, which can result in disordered eating and a variety of harmful health effects. Of course, not all dieting results in eating disorders, but a lot of research has indicated that it can.
Particularly if body image concerns have resulted in disordered eating, body image difficulties can potentially cause mental health issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, there is a connection between eating disorders, anxiety, and sadness. Your general quality of life may be affected if you have a negative body image. According to a 2016 study by Nayir et al., people’s quality of life was strongly correlated with their perception of their bodies.
Social media can have a significant impact on a person’s self-perception and body image.
Social media influences how many people view beauty and attractiveness. If their bodies don’t mirror what they see online, people may negatively evaluate themselves as a result of social media.
Having said that, it is important to build a positive body image for the betterment of our physical and emotional health. You can start building a positive body image by:
1. Accepting the way you look:
This is hard, but it’s helpful to try and separate our bodies from our worth.
Recognize that no one is perfect. Even those with seemingly ideal bodies have “flaws”. So, instead of seeing your body as you would like it to be, accept it as it is. If you need to, unfollowing social media accounts that provoke your emotions and starting to follow pages that promote body acceptance.
Avoid body-shaming language. Whenever you find yourself body-shaming yourself, stop and think, “Would I act in this manner toward my best friend?” Be kind to yourself like you would a good friend.
2. Following activities to build a positive sense of body: For some people, body positivity won’t come naturally, and that’s okay! You can try one of the following activities to build it:
List five positive traits about your personality first, then five positive traits about your physical appearance.
Notice how your body does so much without looking a certain way. Appreciating the functionality our bodies provide can be so helpful.
3. Taking care of your body: Taking good care of your body can make you feel better about it. Start caring for yourself with these tips:
Eat nutritious foods. Find out which foods are healthy for you and how much is enough. When you eat, savor every bite. Enjoy and truly taste your food.
Get a good night’s sleep. Get to bed on time and learn how much sleep you need for your age. To get a good night’s sleep, turn off screens several hours before bed.
Daily exercise is beneficial. In order to be strong, fit, and healthy, your body must move. Take part in a sport to stay active. You can also dance, walk, exercise, practice yoga, or run. Pick fun activities that you enjoy doing.
Maintain body weight that works best for you! Avoid comparing your weight to that of others. You can learn your ideal weight from your doctor. Don’t attempt to alter your diet on your own if you are not at a healthy weight. Always consult a parent or a physician first. Your doctor can make recommendations on how to get to and maintain your ideal weight.
Self-esteem or body image issues might occasionally be too much for one person to handle. Your self-esteem may be impacted by health problems, sadness, or trauma. Additionally, eating disorders might contribute to a falsely negative body image.
Inform your parents, your doctor, or your therapist of your struggles. Seek help, there is nothing wrong with needing help. With support and consideration, body image and self-esteem can improve.

Strategies for promoting a Healthy Self-Image and Body Positivity | Solh Wellness
How we see ourselves is what is sometimes referred to as our internal lexicon. It enumerates our benefits and drawbacks and represents us as a whole. Learning leads to the development of one's self-image, which is influenced by early interactions with parents and other primary carers. Our opinions of ourselves, our interactions with others, and the relationships we form are all reflected back to us by our self-image, which serves as a kind of mirror. It is possible for the reflections we see to be true or distorted, which can result in the growth of a positive or negative self-image. A positive self-image allows one to accept and own their strengths while also being realistic about their flaws and limitations, as opposed to a negative self-image, which emphasises one's flaws and weaknesses and distorts people's failures and blemishes. A positive self-image allows one to acknowledge and own their strengths while also being truthful about their problems.
How to Improve Your Self-Image
Self-image formation is a dynamic process that is always changing. Some steps you can take to cultivate a positive self-image are as follows:
To determine the elements that affect our capacity to create either a positive or negative self-image, a self-image inventory can be employed.
Developing a positive self-image will surely benefit from making a list of all your strengths. Having a positive self-image is undoubtedly helped by understanding our personal abilities.
Create for yourself measurable, attainable goals and objectives.
Face the distortions in your mind. A distortion is a method of thinking that impairs a person's ability to distinguish between good and wrong. Therefore, it is essential to confront one distortion in order to establish a positive self-image.
Finding and analysing the effects of labels on children: Early experiences are crucial for the development of a positive self-image, thus tracking down and analysing the consequences of early labels is crucial.
Do not evaluate yourself against others. People enjoy comparing themselves to others in relation to anything, thus refraining from doing so is crucial if you want to cultivate a positive self-image.
The most crucial thing is to establish a positive self-image by learning to love oneself first before learning to love others.
Encourage yourself since doing so can help you grow to have a positive self-image.
Keep in mind that you are special. Since everyone is different, they all have a different idea of who they are.
While we are primarily preoccupied with our bodies, society, the influence of family, and peer groups all have an affect on how our bodies are seen. Body image is only a component of self-image. Additionally, as we become older, our perceptions of our bodies shift.
How to Improve Your Body Image
Evaluating one's body image, taking into account both its benefits and drawbacks. Every individual has a different body. It's important to make an ongoing effort to get to know your body and be honest about your capabilities and limitations.
Affirmations that are good for you might make you more comfortable with your body. Use them on yourself and treat it like a buddy.
The most important step is to embrace your unique self. The most important thing is to embrace and accept your body.
Face the misconceptions others may have about the way your body looks. Respect your body and challenge misunderstandings about it.
Conclusion
Despite the strategies for promoting a good picture of oneself and one's physique that have been stated above, Solh Wellness aims to provide proactive mental health treatments to people in need before their situations worsen. Make taking care of yourself a priority in your life and try out different strategies to proactively assist your mental health. Get the Solh Wellness App to start living a healthier life.
