'Besides lacking loftiness and revolutionary purpose, the social-work-as-revolutionary-organizing model also lacks the weapons of agitation, exposure, and ideological struggle. As a starting point for this discussion, it’s worth asking: Why was Malcolm X the most respected person in Harlem in the early 1960s, with a growing following among and deep love from Black proletarians and revolutionary-minded people nationwide? It wasn’t because Mosque No. 7 ran a successful free bean pie distribution program.17 Malcolm X was revered for his biting exposure of the system and his relentless ideological struggle against all ways of thinking that were holding Black people back in their struggle for liberation. People came to hear Malcolm X speak, and I don’t ever recall seeing the words “free food” on a poster advertising a Malcolm X speech. Listening to his speeches today is an excellent way to train yourself in methods of exposure of the system and ideological struggle with the people, both of which are crucial tools for bringing forward a revolutionary people."

“"IF WE CAN CONSCRIPT MEN WE CAN CONSCRIPT WEALTH",” Toronto Star. March 1, 1933. Page 18.  ---- But Capt. Philpott Prefers Alternative of Issuing Dominion Money ---- SEES NEW WORLD --- Bronte, March 1. - A new social order, based on the inherent right of man to work for a living, and incorporating the best features of the present capitalistic system, but with a "new deal" for the working classes, is the only hope for defeating the depression in Canada, Capt. E. M. Philpott told a meeting of the Men's Community club here last night.
"In the last 23 years there have been more changes in the world than ever in history before," Capt. Philpott stated. "And in the next 23 years I predict there will be even greater changes. As it stands now, the world has learned to produce as much with as it needs, but it is so selfish it has not learned how to distribute it.
"The present political machinery is outworn, and there is graft and corruption, not in one party, but in all parties. If I could see 50 years ahead, I think I could see the present antiquated form of abolished, and party new politics order a established. The world is facing an unprecedented crisis in the near future, and unless we can get together as Canadians and rebuild the whole structure from the ground, many will be buried in the ruins.
Capitalism Unfair "The war and the depression have shown the unfairness of cut-throat capitalism. I don't pretend to have at solution, but I can suggest that we compare the manner in which we wage war, but yet fail to do anything. about the depression. For 100 years. we have kept military experts at the nation's capital ready for war, but during that time we have bad ten depressions and no one did anything. about it. Those depressions did more to harm Canada than ever war did during that time.
"Seeing men lined up before soup kitchens, as we can in any city to-day, reminds me of the signs we used to see during the war, pro- claiming Your King and country need you.' I think that now they should have a sign, 'Your King and country don't need you now.' Surely, if the country can tell a man he must fight and die in time of war, a man has a right to say to his country. that in peace he has a right to live and work. The cornerstone of a new social system is the right to work. If the present system cannot provide work. the sooner it collapses the exist.
"Even in good times, how can the farmer get a fair price for his products, when, for example, the stock in dairies has been watered. 1,600 per cent., and similarly with other farm products? This exploitation is not confined to persons of any one political party, and all parties are responsible for letting them exist.
"In the new order, any private concern operating against public interest would either be put out of business or taken over by the state.”
Farmer Must Control "The farmer must control the distribution of his basic products.
"Canada is much too over-governed. Why should we need ten parliaments when England gets along with one? This waste cannot go on. In future trade competition is going to be much keener, and the government will either have to cut down the fixed charges of the farmer or bring farm produce prices back to normal. Financial interests would be ill-advised to attempt to prevent the restoration of balance between farmers' income and expenditure. They would lose far more in the crash that will come.
"The trouble now is not with external trade but with selfishness within the country. You cannot blame world conditions for Canadians starving and going half clad when wheat rots in storage and factories are cluttered up with goods. they cannot dispose of.
"If private enterprise cannot find men work, public enterprise must do it. There should be set up a national employment board to find work for those who cannot find it themselves. They could be employed in making and improving highways, clearing up slums and building central heating plants.
"Hours of labor could be cut down in proportion to the increasing efficiency of machinery. Objectors say we cannot afford to put these projects into operation, but I maintain that we cannot afford not to.
"We cannot succeed if the Liberals alone undertake it, nor the C.C.F., nor the Conservatives. Everyone in every party must pull together."

“I’m not on tiktok anyway so this does not affect me” no???? it’s not just about tiktok or whether or not you like the app??? it’s about them being able to censor and control what they want and what they don’t want people to see. it’s about them being able to keep people uneducated for the sake of their personal gain and benefits.
(it’s also about small businesses who relied on tiktok to gain customers / income.)
that being said, if the only thing you care about is the platforms you’re on, sorry to break it to you, but if they can ban tiktok, they can go after any other platforms too.
they can go after tumblr, archive of our own, instagram, youtube, facebook, etc, you name it.
it actually does affect you.

“Cancellation” ultimately is about free people freely encouraging others not to associate with a person or business the initiators of the cancellation find distasteful. There are varying degrees of social costs for bucking the trend and there may be financial consequences for the target. Yet it remains a matter of free association and freedom not to associate. If you don’t like businesses severing ties with controversial people, the left feels your pain. See also: Jewish Voice for Peace getting lumped in with pro-Hamas sentiment.
Yet a social phenomenon is a different kind of thing than a government like Florida under DeSantis attacking Disney through the law in retaliation for the latter’s political speech or sending cops to people’s doors to investigate signatures on petitions he doesn’t want to become ballot initiatives.

KOSA'S BACK
Tumblr media
I'm not going to leave this unmentioned as the news isn't doing enough to warn people. The short of it is, the bill which disguises itself as a means to make the web safer was written by The Heritage Foundation to give the FTC full authority on what's deemed safe on the web. Under the new administration, it will be used to censor LGBT content. We know this was the point, as its proponents have shared this exact plan. It can still be beaten if called and emailed their senators, making it clear what harm the bill will do I'll link pages that can give you a line to your lawmakers, a way to write to them, and also a petition to sign.. The former only takes two minutes, and the latter has a pre-written script if you need it. This is more than important enough for your time. Even if you're in a red state, some conservatives oppose this bill beleive it will silence conservative voices too, so if you think that line of reasoning would work better on them, go for it!

Navigating Politics in the Workplace
In this election year, employees inevitably will engage in discussions of the impactful and divisive political issues that are at the forefront of our national discourse. I live in a neighborhood with a big Jewish population, 5 synagogues I can think of within a 5-7 minute walk. There have been mass produced "kidnapped" signs with names, ages, photos, and nationalities of people Hamas were holding since October, taped onto every phone pole available.
I've wanted to print out the increasingly long list of names of Palestinians who've been killed, not even the ones held indefinitely in Israeli prisons, and tape them alongside, but I haven't been brave enough.
There's also a second floor window around the corner from me where the person has put up a sign that reads, in bright red, "Flat Gaza Now" and used to read "kill them all" until perhaps local pressure got them to cover up that line. NYPD, local electeds, and the building's coop board all weighed in but that was the extent of the edits.
Lately I've seen a different kind of sign though, postcard size stickers, a solid color background with black text and graphics. "Curb your antisemitism" with a sketch of Larry David's face. Yes! Not into Larry David's humor but love that sentiment. "Keep calm and fuck hamas" with a magen David. This also I can get behind pretty easily.
They feel more hip than the corporate feel of the bigger flyers.
Then there's this one.

I. . . what do they think "pronouns" means? Surely there's a better rallying cry for Jewish-allied queers and queer-allied Jews?
