Me and @stargazing-zani were bored so have this list of what partner pokemon the ff7 crew would have

The Banora boys get the Applin variants. Genesis gets a Flapple and Angeal has an Appletun

Genesis also tries to deflect attention onto his much flashier Ceruledge in public tho

Angeal was also given an Aegislash by his father which he nicknamed Buster. Buster has seen too much as it’s passed down to Zack and then Cloud in turn, watching its partners suffer but unable to form the words to comfort them

Hojo tries and tries to get Sephiroth something big, ultra-powerful and intimidating, but Seph is set on the adorable Mew which found him and refused to leave his side. Still a mythical so Hojo lets him keep it but is very miffed

Cloud was adopted by a Galarian Zapdos bc chocobo. I don’t make the rules. I do feel like the character arc the Sobble line goes through fits him really well tho

Zack has an unevolved Rockruff for quite a while. When it eventually does evolve, no matter what time of day it is, it will inevitably evolve into Midday Lycanroc because Zack’s sunny personality is overwhelming

Aerith has a Tinkaton. They’re perfect for each other

I don’t know how to explain it but Mudsdale gives me Tifa vibes, also it was a powerhouse when I had it on my team and I love it

Hojo created a Mewtwo bc all other pokemon rejected him, but it immediately turned on its creator and murders him violently, preventing all problems and fixing everything without the need for time travel

Insane Seph got a Deoxys bc creepy alien. Maybe it is Jenova in this universe and starts corrupting him as soon as he gets it driving him insane

Rufus gets a Houndoom bc that’s basically what Darkstar is anyways

Cait Sith is basically just Meowth already, I don’t need to do much here. Maybe Perrserker to be the version from the Scotland area Pokemon game

Alternatively for Reeve I feel like Duraludon works, bc urban development and it reminds me of the Neo Midgar concepts

Heidegger gets either a Skuntank or a Granbull, idk which but vibes

Oh dear god while writing this I thought too much about the implications of SOLDIER still existing in a world where pokemon battles replaced normal fighting. Maybe it was an experiment to splice human dna with pokemon to get humans to be able to fight using pokemon moves too? So like you go up against a SOLDIER, faint all 6 of their pokemon and think yay I’ve won, and then the SOLDIER just starts going after your pokemon themselves. They are their own 7th pokemon

Cloud - Tempted to say flying for the puns dhdhdh, but I’m leaning more toward Rock!! Heavy hitters, extremely sturdy physical defense, but a litttleeee lacking on the Special side (referring to Cloud’a wobbly mental health throughout the early-to-mid game). However!! Even with their lacking special stats, they are NOT easy to mold, and not easy to bend into puppets >:3c It’s also super effective against fire- hallelujah!!

Tifa - Fighting for sure!! Martial art specialist, resilient spirit, and doesn’t even need any special weapons to shatter your shins!!

Aerith - For her mythical Cetra nature, think I have to go with Fairy!! Very strong special attackers that are super effective against Dark (“evil” type in Japan!), buuuutttt is weak to the cold steel of Masamune. I’m so sorry lmaooooo

Barret - Hmmm… a bit tricky!! Think I’m gonna ultimately shoot for Steel on this one. Guy’s team would definitely be loaded with bullet-esque moves!!! (In addition to being obviously tough lol, with an unbreakable protectiveness for Marlene!!)

Vincent - I’m liking the idea of ghost for Vince!! :3c Lots of spoopy fellas to match that vampiric, un-aging vibe!! He also stars in a game entitled Dirge of Cerberus lmaooo, which is a word usually associating with grieving/macabre things of the like!

Cid - Flying, no question!!! He’s gonna soar to space just you wait! ✨

Yuffie - Give her bug, hehe!! Will snatch your materia like a little spider without you even noticing! (And mayyyybeee for bugging Zack with those spam emails in CC!)

Nanaki - Wouldn’t engage in the battling of intelligent creatures x3 Moving on!!

Hojo - BLEH! Poison. Icky and vile and taints the lives of everyone around him. Prolly one of those trainers who treats their Pokémon like garbage -_-

Evil!Sephiroth - Undoubtedly Dark. Evil to the core! Will spam the HELL out of status conditions, specifically confusion and burn. Weak to Aerith’s Fairy & the others’ fighting, but dominates Vincent x3 Has an even match-up with Cloud!

Sane!Sephiroth - Another fighting specialist!!! Extremely skilled at the art of battling, pouring hours of meticulous effort into honing his skills and strategy. Also weak to the winged attacks of Flying types.

Genesis - This, boy, is on FIREEEEE!!! Gotta give him a mon with burning jealousy lol!!

Angeal - Steel as well!! More of a defensive wall than anything, guy is arguably the weakest of the trio in terms of physical combat and speed. He is disadvantaged against both Gen & Seph’s teams!!

Zack - Gonna give the pup dragon!! >:3c Simply for the sake of being legendary. Nothing more.

Cadet!Cloud - Normal specialist <33 Young and untainted at this time!

I made redesigns for the grunts from the anime (Aldith, Barret, Weiss, and Schwarz) with new Pokemon that could fit their personalities. Aldith now has a bow and arrows, Barret has a sword, Weiss has a driver's license (funny right), and Schwarz has a halberd. I figured that giving them fun new designs would be fun.

They are all canon to Spark Plasma and CCE's Absolute Zero storyline! And yes, the four of them are ALL evil!

Hi! I don’t have all the characters’ species figured out yet, but here’s some of the major ones!

Cloud is a Jolteon, and the current owner of the Buster Looplet

Barret is a Blastoise, although with the design detail that one of his paws is replaced by a prosthetic Mega Blastoise claw with an arm cannon

Tifa is a Lucario! When it comes to using aura, she dislikes prying too much into other Pokémon’s emotions. As such, she mainly only uses it during combat to gauge her opponents’ next moves. For some odd reason, she has trouble reading Cloud’s aura.

Aerith is a Bayleef, with her White Emera, this AU’s version of the White Materia, kept safely tucked in the pink ribbon she wears around her head leaf.

Nanaki is an Entei

Yuffie is a Treecko

Vincent is a Zoroark, who due to events in his past is sometimes able to become one with the illusions Zoroark are able to conjure.

Cid is a Fearow, and currently works as a transporter

Cait Sith is a Decoy Doll controlled psychically by Reeve! The Moogle Doll in the AU is a Kangaskhan Rock able to move due to Reeve’s abilities

Reeve is a shiny Reuniclus

Zack is a Luxio

Marlene is a shiny Flabebe currently without a flower, as flowers are rare in Midgar

Claudia is a Flareon

Jessie is a Raichu

Biggs is a Fraxure

Wedge is a Shieldon

Hojo is a Banette

Sephiroth is a shiny Gallade

Lucrecia is a Gardevoir

Jenova is a Missingno, with various forms such as Ghost, Aerodactyl skeleton, and Kabutops skeleton

ok I'm making another ffvii character pokemon team post because I cannot be stopped. here's barret

a couple of these were more difficult to come up with, but I didn't even have to think about a few of the others. details under the cut

his sprite is a recolor of lt surge. the outfit and sunglasses were made for him. nothing I could do about his arm though

species: coalossal

ability: steam engine

item: heavy-duty boots

moves: flamethrower, power gem, body press, iron defense

a coal pokemon named after corel seemed like an obvious choice, given its coal mining history. heavy-duty boots because we follow workplace health and safety standards in this household.

the rest of the set isn't all that exciting. flamethrower because of... yknow. and body press and iron defense more generally feature because of how tanky barret is

species: octillery

ability: moody

item: assault vest

moves: fire blast, octazooka, flash cannon, charge beam

dyne the octillery features as one of the vaguely gun-shaped pokemon.

I gave him the moody ability because he acts pretty erratically, especially in rebirth. all of his moves are also vaguely gun-shaped. charge beam specifically because he uses electrical mines in his rebirth fight.

item: protective pads

moves: fake out, return, low kick, safeguard

barret is such a dad that we have to represent his relationship with marlene with kangaskhan. she gets the protective pads to help keep her safe :)

return because she loves her dad a lot. low kick because she's tiny and low to the ground I guess lmao. and safeguard because again barret just wants to keep her safe

item: rocky helmet

moves: avalanche, take down, stomping tantrum, recover

I mean how could I not?

own tempo ability because terrorists tend to go against the grain a bit. in addition, barret's particular avalanche cell is doing their own thing separately from the rest of avalanche.

avalanche as the first move... again how could I not? take down because we're stickin it to shinra. and stomping tantrum represents barret's temper.

item: heat rock

moves: fire blast, focus blast, solar beam, sunny day

catastrophe is barret's ultimate limit break. this calls for another vaguely gun-shaped pokemon!

again, barret is rather spirited, so ability is vital spirit.

fire blast and focus blast are explosion-shaped moves. solar beam in particular was chosen because catastrophe really is just kind of a giant laser

ability: vessel of ruin

item: assault vest

moves: lash out, earthquake, payback, ruination

I wanted to continue with giving everybody one legendary, mythical, or ultra beast, but I actually had a pretty tough time landing on one for barret. I'm still not super happy with it, but I decided to go with the angle of how barret's actions against shinra are in large part motivated by revenge. the treasures of ruin seemed like decent options for that since they're embodiments of negative emotions. while wo-chien represents grudges, I thought ting-lu was more fitting as a ground-type given barret's previous occupation. I named it angermax after another of barret's limit breaks (and one that, under certain conditions, is actually stronger than catastrophe).

the moves lash out and payback both reflect barret's motivations against shinra. ruination of shinra is of course his ultimate goal.

don't know if anyone will actually be interested enough to follow these, but I'll do one for tifa next. you can find the one I did for cloud here
