Oh wow I forgot about this prompt. And realized there are more people we can add and figure out pokemon teams for. Like Harper Row/bluebird, Kate Kane/Batwoman, Lucius Fox, Luke Fox, and I had forgotten that the rogue Firefly started as a Batman villain. Bet there are other villains I forgot too.

Tim finds a wierd bird and nurses it back to health. He has no idea what this bird was but it was gray and orange and refused to eat anything other than fresh fruit.

The internet was no help and he couldn't find anything that suggested it even existed. A few days later Damian tried to adopt the bird and it basically gave him the cold shoulder. Tim swears the bird understands human speech and teaches it to answer yes or no questions by hoping up and down for yes and side to side for no.

This bird just would not leave him alone. It accompanied him on patrol as Red Robin and Tim had to hide it in his pocket at work. Thankfully, it was small. RR winds up getting hurt and this little ball of feathers loses its freaking mind. It attacks Tim's opponent with fire from its wings and now the entire batfam thinks this is some sort of baby phoenix.

The fletchling in question is just wondering why there's no other pokemon in this city and what was that swirly green place with all the purple doors? And who's that white haired kid who keeps trying to sneakily capture it to "take it home"? Doesn't he know that I have a trainer now? This is my home >:[

My Danny Phantom concept, but he works for NASA.

Despite his half dead status (read as medical conditions), he passed all of his exams. So they promoted him. He's also the only one who doesn't have any negative side effects from being in space for so long. He simply registered as a Meta/ Mutant and got the job. He meets all types of people and species in space. So he's a regular in the watch tower.

Prompt: Ghost are still considered non-sentient, which leads to people playing Pokémon with the ghost and unfortunately for Danny, he's basically a legendary with some high stats and it was only time before someone was able to snatch him up.

Ghost being more beasty or ethereal looking, they communicate through Ghost speak which just sounds like hisses/growls to other species. Danny looks like a Naga and communicates like one.

Warning: The Bats treating Phantom like a wild newly discovered creature species. Scientific discussions about his body in front of him, discussions about Ghosts possibly being able to breed because in Phantom form, Danny is duel gendered.

“How!?”

“Jealous?”, Jason watched in amusement as the youngest in the family fumed and stomped around, the kid honestly looked like an angry kitten. Not his fault he managed to snag the Ghost before the rest of them, besides it was in his Alley, so he had rights to it anyway.

Didn’t stop Damian from glaring and huffing about it being unfair, everyone else was either ignoring them or just rolling their eyes in expiration.

Not that he could blame the kid, catching Phantom was basically hitting the lottery, the Ghost was on the top of the list of most wanted. There were videos, essays, debates, everything on them from species type, to power sets, possible weaknesses, likely Obsessions…and Jason caught them. He pinned them down and snapped the collar on as soon as he saw who exactly was haunting his territory.

Currently Phantom was going through an observation…okay, they were currently being poked at by Tim and Bruce, the Replacement eagerly jotting down things he found or didn’t find, treating procedure like a puzzle.

The Ghost was curled up in the observation table, currently wrapped up in a snake like tail instead of legs, giving off Naga vibes that included hissing and snapping teeth in mock bites.

There was no real threat behind the actions considering the poor things condition, whatever or whoever had tried to catch the feral beastie did a number on them before Jason was able to snatch them for his own.

No matter, Jason took care of his things and he’ll have his new companion looking all shiny and pretty before long.

Dick was lazily spinning in Bruce’s computer chair, legs hanging askew, “Sooo, how are going to register them? Can’t exactly put down Red Hood in the Owner’s signature?”

“Going to go with the ‘Jason Todd and Red Hood being “secret” partners route’, as far as the docs will show, Phantom got caught by Hood in his territory and made a lovely gift to the Alley’s biggest supporter.”

“Nice.”

A silent agreeable silence passed between them as everything started to truly settle for the night.

Phantom was still hissing as Tim held out a device to scan over the Ghost, “Mostly exhaustion, energy drained, malnutrition, probably due to being on the run and unable to get a proper meal. Oh, congratulations, it’s a…hermaphrodite…huh…”

Bruce just hummed in response, taking the device from his son, “Not unusual, there have been reported cases of similar body formations, if you look here in this area, this is very close in resemblance to that of snakes cloaca, given how its been recorded of their ability to shift from tail to legs, it’s a high probability that there is an external and internal shift to match the forms and still keep the functionality of both genitalia.”

“So…wait! That means they can breed! Which means other Ghosts that are similar can too! Which means there are natural born Ghosts?”

“Ghost is only a common used term, coined by the Fentons, real ghosts like Deadman aren’t like these creatures, and given how terrible the Fentons research was…we are unable to fully understand most habits and causes of the species.”

Tim reached back for the scanner, eyes scrolling over the details in excited glee, beings that were basically unknown, improbably recorded, a huge mystery with smaller mysteries within, “I’m going to compare these scans with known species of reptiles, might get a standard bar of health in comparison and possible hints at behavior.”

Another hum came from the Dark Knight, focus turning to watching the youngest move his way in between him and Tim, Damian had came back dressed in civilian clothes and was holding an apple out to the Ghost, “I have brought you a treat.”

They all watched as Phantom hesitated, hissing slowly dissipating as it takes in the fruit, a clawed hand reaching out to take it, sniffing it before taking a small bite.

“So can eat fruit? Can they all eat fruit or just Phantom?”

“Hush, Drake, your voice is grating and might cause them to lash out in hopes of peaceful silence.”

“Excuse you!”

The two continued to bicker, the creature on the examination table just steadily continued eating, bright pure green eyes watching them before taking in the room.

Dick made an attention whistle at Jason, nodding at the way the Ghost was eyeing possible exits, his brother just shrugged in response.

With that collar, there wasn’t any place the other could hide without a Bat knowing exactly where they were.

Danny was in Gotham. Which wasn't really the problem. Gotham is nice! Especially for ghosts. But the problem is he's not Danny or Phantom. He currently is a shiny white Gengar! (I know a shiny gengar isn't white, BUT IT SHOULD BE!)

So far he's hiding in Gotham's shadows and the only attack moves he can figure out is ice punch and dark pulse. Which is extremely affective! Any way he's trying to find a way to communicate and get back to his human self, but the only thing he can say is Gen! gar!

Oh look! There's the bats. The exact people he wanted to avoid.

Danny: What?

Jazz: Your snack. Eat it now or seal it up and decontaminate it.

Danny: I want to save it for later. It’ll be a midnight snack.

Jazz: That’s fine. Just not in the wall, and it needs to be decontaminated first.

Danny: Why?

Jazz: Out of sight out of mind. Do you remember what happened the last time you put one of those in the wall?

Danny: What? Pssh. N-no. No I don’t remember anything. Nothing happened a-and I got to eat yummy snacks.

Jazz: Oh really? You don’t remember? Let me refresh it for you. Your snack became sentient, tore a hole through the drywall, and started attacking us. At 2am. We lost our security deposit.

Danny: The landlord couldn’t prove anything! They didn’t even show up on the security cameras!

Jazz: pointed look

Danny: sigh Fine. I’m hungry now anyway.

Maybe a Charizard for Michelle? Apart from that I feel like she’d have a lot of water type Pokémon

I’m actually quite proud of this, they look so cute… except some mistakes I’m not going to point out

Be sure to tell me any more Pokémon you think she would have or for any other characters, it’s unlikely I’ll do fully coloured and rendered pieces but it’s definitely possible.

I’ve been thinking about when she would’ve gotten the charizard and at what stage, I do like the idea of her getting it as a charizard rather than a charmander or charmilean. I think it would be sweet having her adopt it when it’s already an adult and had lived a life before meeting her and then she gets to sort of chill out with it, maybe like when people adopt old dogs.

I think she would’ve gotten charizard during volume 2 (mainly because it would still be in the continuity that I sort of created in the first piece with her…) maybe it’s something Rip got for her, also possibly her boyfriend who dieds charizard that she managed to save, sort of a reminder of her love, I feel like someone she loved dying was moved past a bit quickly? Maybe I need to reread.

I’m still super sad about her and Rani not showing up since volume 2 so I think another sweet reason for her to have charizard is that it’s there to protect her when she’s not with Rip or booster, I’ve got a little headcanon that she’s off travelling the past with Rani and that’s why they haven’t shown up, so maybe charizard is tagging along as protection!

I couldn’t think of any water pokemon for her, I was also a bit brain dead after drawing this so feel free to request any water types

Also if you managed to read all my rambling please give me any Pokémon for Rani since I’m planning to do her!

The kind of Pokémon team I think each member of the Justice League would have and why:

Batman

Marowak- This one is obvious, but Batman having a Marowak seems like a no-brainer. They both lost their parents at an early age (or at least before Cubone evolved into a Marowak since age does not equal level) and they're both seen as angry fighters.

Crobat- another obvious pick, out of all the bat pokemon, Crobat felt like the best choice as it was the first.

Urshifu (Single-Strike)- I know some are going to feel iffy about me picking a legendary pokemon for Batman. But considering how much in common this pokemon has with the Dark Knight, I had to pick him. It mostly involves the one-punch it took for Batman to knock out Guy Gardner and the fact Batman can surpass most enemy defenses.

Zangoose- To compare his relationship with the joker, Zangoose has the natural rivalry with Seviper.

Dragapult- Dragapult reflects the combined elements of Batman's stealth, his batwing, and his Robins. Sure, batman doesn't launch Dick Grayson at supersonic speeds, but he has him along with the others fight alongside him.

Greninja- A stealthy pokemon which incorporates projectiles into its attacks

I can also see Batman having a direct access to his Pokemon Boxes so he can swap in other pokemon. Knowing him, he'd probably have an Annihilape, Tyrantrum, and a bunch of Zubat and other bat pokemon. He would also have various pokemon that would be useful for crime-fighting like Gumshoos (Although Jim Gordon would most definitely have one already).

Superman

Solgaleo- Considering his alien origins, it would be of no surprise that Clark would have obtained an alien pokemon. Especially one that is associated with the Sun. Also, given that Solgaleo is prone to possession from Necrozma, it also reflects Superman's reoccurring problem of being used as an evil character in writing.

Infernape- Given that Infernape is based on Son Goku, the japanese version of Sun Wukong, and that Goku is based on Son Goku, it would be natural for him to have this pokemon.

Krypotnian Boltund- On Krypton, a variant of Boltund existed that could perform similar feats compared to that of the regular Boltund. Except instead of being Electric type, its a fire type. Superman has this pokemon as a reference to Krypto the Super Dog.

Palafin- This one is an obvious choice as Palafin is just a Superman Dolphin. I think Clark would have either been inspired by or found it humorous that its transformation method is similar to his own.

Dragonite- Another obvious pick, given that Superman is seen as an all powerful person, many tend to forget he's also just a nice guy. Dragonite is also a nice fellow that is very powerful.

Snorlax- Superman of course needs a Normal type pokemon to reflect his normalness, and I think that Snorlax is inherently the best option here. Snorlax is often seen as lazy and lethargic but is powerful when needed to be.

Superman would also keep many extra-terrestrial and other kinds of Pokemon in his Fortress of Solitude. He might even lend a few to Ma and Pa Kent. Imagine that! Pa Kent having Buzzwole help him with the farm.

Wonder Woman

Themysciran Nidoqueen- A Fairy/Fighting type, Nidoqueen on Themyscira are more than capable fighters. Their bodily armor on its wrists can withstand many attacks due to a mystical aura they have. They have one of two abilities: Magic Guard or Battle Armor. They even have a new move called Wrist Clang, a special fairy-type move which hits all opponents.

Falinks- Wonder Woman's father is Zeus in the current continuity of DC Comics. Since Falinks is based on the ancient Greek Battle Formation called a Phalanx, its connection to Greece is perfect for Diana. Since, she is also a warrior taught in Greek combat-style.

Armarouge- Another warrior pokemon, Armarouge is meant to reflect the explosion attack Diana can do with her gauntlets.

Chestnaught- Yeah, I know theres type overlap, but Chestnaught is a living shield pokemon, of course I'm going to pick it to replace Diana's shield.

Kangaskan- Everyone remebers Diana's Kangaroo, Kanga, right? Because this is the only Kangaroo-Adjacent pokemon I could choose.

Zacian- On Themyscira, Zacian and Zamazenta are a two sisters rather than a brother and a sister (still genderless in the pokedex tho). In this island hidden away from man, Zacian is regularly a Fairy type, but with the Sword of Athena, her strength is increased ten fold. Different from her counterpart in Galar, this form of Zacian is referred to as the Wondrous Sword. With its new move, Warrior Strike, a critical hit is landed on the enemy.

Most of these pokemon are female as Themyscira is consisted of only women. So, the pokemon of the island would also consist of only female pokemon that would fit Diana's personality. A Salazzle, Tsareena, or a Hatterene wouldn't fit as they don't have attributes that fit Diana (unless we're talking the Frank Miller version, which we aren't).

The Flash (Barry Allen)

Alolan Raichu- This feels like an obvious pick because Raichu's tail resembles the lightning bolt symbol on his chest. I would also say that his Raichu is a meta-pokemon with the Speed-Force Ability, which gives priorty to all attacks.

Midday Lycanroc- Not only is it a quick-moving pokemon, but being a wolf pokemon, its hunting skill would be useful for investigating a crime-scene.

Cinderace- Another pokemon that would be imbued with Speed-Force ability, Cinderace has similar design elements that remind me of the Flash (check his belt).

Pawmot- Barry Allen is often seen as slow-moving until he becomes the Flash in which he is lightning-fast. Its similar acts in battle. You also need to evolve it by walking with it. Barry would've evolved Pawmot in no time.

Linoone- This pokemon would probably be used when Barry is in his civilian form. Yes, Linoone is fast, but thats besides the point

Miraidon- Barry created the cosmic treadmil, which in an alternate universe was bike. Barry's Miraidon has that ability as well, and we're going to say he travels with the speed force naturally.

I wish I had come up with a better team for him, but this is the best I could come up with. I considered pokemon like Gardevoir and Gallade, but neither felt fitting for him to me. Zeraora was chosen because, while a fitting pokemon, felt too obvious to me. Suggestions for Barry's pokemon would be helpful.

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (Yes, I'm picking him over the others, cry about it)

Garchomp- Being a pilot, Hal having a Garchomp made sense to me considering its also a fast-flying pokemon inspired by a jet plane.

Celesteela- Considering he's a space cop, Hal was bound to run across an Ultra Beast at some point. Celesteela was chosen because of its connection to spaceships.

Shiny Lurantis- Not only does this pokemon reflect the phrase of the GL oath "in brightest day" as this pokemon needs to evolve in the day, but it also reflects green lantern ring constructs. When it was first introduced, Lurantis was shown using its signature move: Solar Blade. a solid green beam which slices its enemies.

Gallade- Given that Gallade can sense thoughts and evolved from a pokemon sensitive to the emotions around it, it feels like a good pokemon for Hal Jordan to have.

Dusknoir- This is a subtle reference to the time when Hal Jordan had to be the Specter after his whole Parallax arc.

Gigalith- Considering that Gigalith is a waking laser canon, this would make sense for Hal. But due to its weak Special Attack, Hal's Gigalith is now a Meta-Pokemon now imbued with immense will power to achieve its new form. The green crystals on its body have provided a stronger special attack.

Like with Barry, this one was a little hard to do. Not a lot of pokemon share similarities with Hal or the Green Lanterns in general.

Cyborg

Passimian- Due to the accident that gave Victor his appearance and abilities, it affected some of his pokemon. One of them being Passimian. Now a Steel/Fighting type, Meta Passimian utilizes spheres of energy to fight. Its new ability Cannon Hand increases the power of special attacks. This pokemon was chosen because of Victor being into sports.

Apokolipsian Bronzong- Bronzong from Apokolips are the ancestors of the Bronzong and Bronzor found on earth. They can open gateways to other worlds, including ultra space. They're a Electric/Psychic type with the ability Levitate/Steelworker. So because of his merging with both the Mother Box and Father Box, Cyborg has lots of cosmic power at hand. So much so that he can create boom and hush tubes as well as have a connection to the multiverse.

Leafeon- I wanted to give him a pokemon that's relatively normal but also reflected one of his powers. And wouldn't you know, Cyborg has the ability to photosynthesize (its a summary of one of his powers, but you get the point).

Golurk- Golurk is a giant machine pokemon said to have a source of infinite energy powering it. Cyborg is also capable of producing infinite energy.

Iron Hands- If you look at the origin of Iron Hands, you can clearly tell that the pokemon is based off Cyborg.

Mega Blastoise- A reflection of Cyborg's cybernetic abilities and his large cannon gun that he can form with his hand.

Initially, I partly struggled with making his team until I did some edits.

Martian Manhunter

Beeheeyem- I wasn't initially certain if I should give this pokemon to J'onn because of how Beeheeyem are sentient Pokemon who can build their own space ships. Then again, humans have Beeheeyem, so why not?

Naganadel- Another alien pokemon, Naganadel's pre-evolution, Poipole, is said to be the starter pokemon of many trainers in Ultra Megalopis. Now, I know that place isn't on Mars, but given that its an alien pokemon, I would not be surprised if they found their way there.

Grappoloct- While not an alien Pokemon, Octopuses are seen as very alien-like animals. I could see M.M.'s Grappoloct being a meta-pokemon with great control of not only its muscular strength but its mind too, being capable of psychic attacks.

Ditto- One of Martian Manhunter's most famous abilities is his capability to Shape-Shift. Ditto is also iconic for this power.

Clefable- Another alien Pokemon, I can see Clefable being one of the first pokemon that J'onn obtained alonged with Beeheeyem.

Deoxys- The Mythical Pokemon Deoxys is known for its ability to change its form to improve its Attack, Defense, and Speed. While Ditto also reflects his ability to shape-shift, Deoxys reflects the form Martian Manhunter takes to better beat down opponents when he needs to get physical.

I'm overall satisfied with what I did here with Martian Manhunter.

Aquaman (Almost forgot about him lol)

Kingdra- Everyone remember's Storm the Seahorse, right?

Wishiwashi- Aquaman's main ability is to command sea life, this ability is reflected through Wishiwashi's ability to form giant creatures.

Poliwrath- "Although its skilled in a style of dynamic swimming that uses all its muscles, for some reason, it lives on land."

Golisopod- Everyone's opinion on Aquaman was initially that he was a wimpy, pathetic, good-for-nothing superhero. That changed obviously

Swampert- Originally I was going to pick Empoleon for his starter, but I realized that Swampert made more sense given that it reflects how Aquaman is a child of both the sea and Land.

Kyogre- He's the king of the sea, of course he has this pokemon

Aquaman's pokemon were fairly easy to do. My only problem is that have type-overlap.

Green Arrow

Decidueye- Oliver Queen's backstory fits very well with Decidueye's evolution line. Specifically with Dartrix being snobby and fussy to evolving into a more deadly pokemon.

Barraskewda- On Starfish island, Oliver gained sustenance from fishing. Given that Arrokewda is partially based on an arrow, this is a reflection of that.

Hitmonchan- Punching glove arrow

Sirfetch'd- Oliver considers himself more honorable that the other heroes.

Meta-Pokemon: Pokemon that have gone through significant alterations during rapid environmental changes, exposure to certain elements, etc. Things that can change in these pokemon vary widely from small stat changes to the changing of types, appearance, and abilities. In the actual Pokemon continuity there are pokemon similar to this discription such as Blood Moon Ursaluna and Rockruff with the ability Own Tempo.

Deoxys basically imprinted on Danny. So he's now a permanent visitor. Nasa gave the triangle clearance (yippee!).

The first DC character Danny meets is Kori. I wanted to draw my design for her, but I was too focused on playing around with deoxys. So I'll talk more about her next post.

The BatKids as the Gotham Region Gym Leaders

Gym Leader Number Eight: Richard (Dick) Grayson (The Flying Type Gym Leader)

Dick as a Gym Leader: Dick is probably the most influential of all the Gotham Region Gym Leaders. He has several more years of experience from all the others, which makes him cut loose a bit more since he already spent most of his earlier years working hard to hone his and his team’s skills. Despite being one of the most playful and lighthearted Gym leaders, he still doesn’t hold back when challenged. Most trainers who challenge and manage to defeat him find themselves hoping to follow in Dick’s example of passion for the craft of battle, but also enjoyment for connection and trust each challenge gives you. Among all the Trainers of Gotham, if not for Bruce Wayne himself, Dick would be considered the face of Pokémon Battling of his region.

Gym Set Up: Dick’s Gym is set up quite similarly to Barbara’s in the sense that both are set up like a maze, instead of relying on knowledge like the earlier Gotham Gyms. The only difference in their set up is that while Barbara’s Gym is meant to lead you to find your way, Dick’s is more a journey of either where you’ve been or where you will be. The Gym will be circus themed, so when you enter a circus tent by the docks you’ll immediately be greeted by a Gym Trainer who will lead you to a rope ladder in the center, and ask you to climb it. Once you do you’ll be on a trapeze platform, and you must swing across each platform where you will meet a Trainer and battle. There will be seven battles in total and each Trainer’s platform will be decorated in the same colors or aesthetic of one of the Gotham Region Gym Leaders, with some of them even (if not all) matching a Pokémon of theirs to that Gym’s type (for example in early game when you make it to the fire/ghost Gym platform (Jason’s Gym), the Gym Trainer may have a Pokémon like Oricorio (ghost type)). Once you defeat all the trainers you’ll swing to a final larger platform across from the one where you originally started, and Dick Grayson himself will swing down in front of you to battle. If you face off against Dick in the beginning of your journey, his Gym Trainers will have teams consisting of Oricorio, Murkrow, Woobat, or Rookidee. If you challenge Dick halfway through your journey his Gym trainers will have teams that include Golbat, Pelipper, Oricorio, Archen, or Talonflame. If you take on Dick at the late stages of your journey his Gym Trainers teams will consist of Oricorio, Skarmory, Hawlucha, Mandibuzz, Fan Rotom, Gliscor, Xatu, and Drifblim.

Gym Team Roster (Early Journey Edition): If you challenge Dick at a Gym battle early into your journey, his team will consist of a Gligar for an early defense against any electric type, a Rufflet because they remind him of Damien in his Robin uniform when he has the hood up, and an Emolga. If you defeat Dick he will hand you the TM for Roost.

Gym Team Roster (Late Journey Edition): When you face off against Dick late into your Journey, he will have a well stacked team. While it may not look the strongest, his years of experience can really drive you into a corner if you’re not careful. His first Pokémon is a Togekiss with great defense. His second team mate is a Gliscor to handle any Electric type Pokémon. His third partner is a Gyarados that can handle any Rock types, as well as offer a great offense. His fourth Pokémon is an Emolga that was given to him as a child by his late parents, because of their hard training Emolga is very swift and hard to hit so it’s a threat to most trainers. His fifth partner is a Braviary that was given to him by Damien when it was a Rufflet. His last Pokémon, while not a flying type in this form, is a Mega Charizard X that was given to him by Bruce, and is one of his most trusted partners. If you manage victory against Dick he will hand you a TM for Aerial Ace.

Vigilante Team: Dick’s vigilante team is one of the most stacked for a very dark reason. Since he’s had to live through Jason’s death, he’s felt safer knowing there’s more hands (or paws… flippers?) on deck, to care for his family or citizens when he can’t get there on time. Mega Charizard X is on the team because of their trust. He has a Salamnce for when raw power is needed and easy transportation. He keeps a Swellow for it’s determined personality. He keeps a Mantine for aquatic assistance. He has a Golbat for stealth, and a Jumpluff for daytime missions with the Titans and to offer comfort to victims.

Civilian Party: When it comes to Dick’s civilian team, he likes to keep the Pokémon he’s closest to on hand, which includes Emolga, Charizard, and Braviary. Out of all the Wayne kids, he’s the one who has taken their image of prestige to heart, so his civilian team has an Altaria and Dragonite to please upper class Gotham, and because he’s fond of their gentle nature.

The world that harmed us

If you’d told him two weeks ago that he would be seriously discussing leaving the dimension with four used-to-be-strangers in a Kings Dominion he would have slowly backed up and thought you a drug addict.

But here he was, sitting at a picnic table in the shade away from the hustle and bustle of the amusement park, staring at the poke ball on the table as if it could change his life.

For years he tried to gain his father’s approval, to earn a place in his heart. And for years he failed, always compared to his siblings. Never the first like Dick, never the most loved like Jason, never the smartest like Tim, never never never.

He can’t remember when he gave up. Maybe it was after his birthday was forgotten the fifth time. Maybe when he was ignored for days at a time. Or maybe it was the first, and last, time Bruce told him he hated him.

Regardless of when, it didn’t take much for him to pack a bag and leave. It was hilariously easy, actually. You’d think someone would have noticed, but that just showed how little he meant to them. And a part of him was grateful.

In two days time he was out of New Jersey and halfway through Michigan. It was there that he met a rag tag group of metas his age also trying to leave the country.

Danny Fenton, Dove Elopeman, Noel Lok and Lydia Lippet had each been traveling–running away–alone before stumbling into each other and deciding to stick together. The four hoped Canada would be kinder to them as Dove was from Italy, Lydia Ireland, Noel California and Danny Illinois. Damian was then told of their “tragic backstory’s” as Lydia called it, and then had to share his own.

Dove was an orphan street rat who discovered she could control peoples minds after accidentally taking control of a soup kitchen. A few restaurants and a Kardashian later she was blacklisted by the Justice League who thought she was an up-and-coming supervillain and she’s been on the run ever since. Damian could tell she was hiding something, but it wasn’t his business so he said nothing.

Lydia was born with a very odd power—aspects of her life could be controlled like a game of DnD, all that was needed was a twenty-sided dice. If she rolled a twenty on intelligence, she would suddenly know enough about quantum physics to teach a college lecture. If she rolled a one she would forgot what colors were what. She also had a character sheet which affected rolls, and classed herself as a Bard.

She called the reason she ran away “The Crush™ Grape Soda Incident” and no one wanted to know what that meant.

Noel, also an orphan, used to be Californias weightlifting state champion before she was given an experimental steroid by her coach without her knowing. She didn’t realize she was a meta until she lifted her coaches beach house on, what was at the time, a funny joke. Her coach was arrested and the Justice League wanted to recruit her. Noel told them no, and when they kept trying she packed what she had and ran.

Danny’s parents were scientists who were desperate to prove ghosts were real. When their portal into the ‘Ghost Zone’ kept failing, they came to believe that the problem was they didn’t have a strong enough tie to this world to keep the portal open and stable. They decided to use Danny as that tie. This led to them turning on the portal with Danny inside, which led to Danny becoming ‘half’ ghost. When his parents tried to capture and experiment on him, he used his new ability’s and ran away.

All of that led to them putting their various abilities and life skills together to cross the Canadian border, meeting Damian a few days before they reached the border. After telling their stories and hearing his–and a high-speed boat-chase across Lake Michigan with the local police that he knows they’ll never let him live down–they continue their journey with odd but little interruptions.

When they finally crossed into Ontario it was close to three in the morning. They were all tense, each of them expecting someone they knew to jump out and drag them back. But no one did. And when they finally, finally, drove all they way through, they stopped in a forest and sat there in silence.

It was Noel who started laughing first. Him and Dove shared glances and wondered if she was ok mentally when Danny started laughing too. Then Lydia, Dove and he joined in. There was something freeing, something joyous in the air. They were out. They made it.

They fell asleep in a pile, and when they woke up they started driving again. (Lydia kept fighting him for ‘her turn’ to drive even though she admitted she didn’t know how to, as if Danny’s driving wasn’t bad enough)

They all agreed Ontario probably wasn’t safe enough so they kept going until they reached Nunavut. And then they celebrated their newfound freedom with a trip to an amusement park, a place neither of them have been before.

Damian won seven toss games and twelve stuffed animals bigger than him, Noel broke four test your strength games and won about ten thousand tickets, they used said tickets to but about fifty small toys and trinkets, Danny dragged all of them to every roller coaster and ride there was, Dove and Lydia got into a dance battle on a DDR that resulted in an all-out musical war(Lydia won) and they finished their day by buying half the candy store.

They’re food and prizes sat in the middle of the table for them to share as they giggled and joked in ways only sugar-high teens could. Danny and Lydia were in a thumb-war while Noel was messing with a puzzle. Dove was teaching him the pocky game and doing a really bad job at explaining, which was making him incredibly flustered.

However, in the middle of her explanation she fell silent. She looked at him as if she were seeing his soul, and then turned and looked at the others. Lydia cheered as she won and began tickling Danny, but shrieked as Noel began tickling her from behind. She watched before smiling and pulling something out of her bag and setting it in the middle of the pile.

It was…. a Poké ball?

It didn’t look like the other real-life poke balls he’d seen though. While those were bright plastic and bigger that his hand this one was metal and shiny, and was about the size of a tennis ball. The middle button also seemed to be slightly glowing.

“This is a portal to another dimension where Pokémon are real.” Dove said quickly, and everyone went quiet. “I know I sound insane, and I know you probably don’t believe me, but I know for a fact because I’ve been. I’ve seen it. In the world this takes you to Pokémon are real. And I think I know a way for the Justice League, the police, are parents too never find us again.”

They all stared at her for a minute, absorbing what she said. “Are you shitting us?” Lydia asked first, “Are you absolutely, one-hundred percent serious?” Dove nodded softly, biting her lip.

Damian surprised himself with his words. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get out of here.” Dove stared at him wide-eyed before Noel nodded. “Yeah, it’s not like I’ve got anything left here. Anyone got a reason they want to stay in boring-land and not become Pokémon trainers?”

Danny and Dove thought for a second while Lydia began listing all the Pokémon she wanted. They came up empty, and Dove began laughing. Damian asked if she was ok and she smiled at him. “I just thought you guys wouldn’t want to leave. I’ve been thinking about it the moment I found it.”

They discussed it a little more–names, Pokémon, money–before packing all their stuff and getting ready to leave the dimension.

“Hey, do you guys wanna be cheesy?” Danny asked, and put his hand on the poke ball. Noel snorted and put her hand over his. Lydia gasped and said “We could be even CHEESIER!” and put a peace sign over their hands.

He didn’t get it, but the others did. Danny and Noel made peace signs next to hers and he groaned. He got it, and Dove did too, giggling and putting her peace sign. Damian looked at their grinning faces, thought of his father—if he was missing him, if he regretted not loving him, if he even noticed that he was gone.

Fuck him, he thought, and finished the star. His friends cheered, Dove used her thumb to click the button—

and the poke ball opened, and they were sucked in.

When he came too he saw they were still making a star, but they were standing in a clearing a little ways away from a forest. They began looking around, and were dazzled by their surroundings.

Small little fairy’s with flowers–“Floettes!” Lydia cried–were everywhere, some were bigger with bigger flowers and in the distance there were about three giant ones that looked to have flowers for their heads. Small little orange hexagon-shaped bees buzzed around, and giant butterflies with big, magenta eyes flew about above them.

This, he thought, this is far better than being Robin. And as he ran with his new friends through the clearing, heading towards the city about the tree line, he knew he would never think about Gotham ever again.

this is just something I’ve had rolling around in my head on tumble dry for the past few days, and it’s not as useless as I thought it would be!
