I was a librarian in the 2000s, not the 2010s, so wrong decade, but you need to remember Susan was in London (the UK), not the US, and there can be a big difference between what's popular in the two.
In the 2000s basically the only thing the actual YAs liked much in my libraries was Point Horror, which I think Susan would have found very amusing. Or screamed at. Could have gone either way. But those would be mostly a little younger than that - at 15, she and her friends would either be in the adult section already, or too cool for reading.
But cool, in-reading for 15 year olds in the UK? Probably still likely to be popular adult horror.
This, somehow, made me wonder:
If Susan Foreman was trying to blend in as a Regular Teenage Girl in the 2010s, she'd certainly be into a YA series. Which one?
Discuss.
#replies#susan foreman#honestly yas at 15 do not read ya series#it's the 11-14s who tend to do that#(one of the reasons the tv series press gang was considered so remarkable was because it may be the only teen-orientated thing#ever made to actually have garnered 80% of the teen audience it was aimed at)#when we were 15 i was reading Jane Eyre and classics and my friends were reading Flowers in the Attic#plus uk-us book publishing differences can be major#but if there's a film out obv that makes a difference#hunger games probably#percy jackson would be a bit young for a 15 yo to be considered an 'in' thing#15 is about the right age for a giant wwii or wwi teen novel/bios if you're the right sort of teen#(angst-fests. misery-lit. horror. or v light romance stuff)

Had such a fun conversation with my therapist today. Honestly I'd been wanting to bring up the whole pro/anti debacle with her just to see what she'd say and how it would stack up against what proshippers and antishippers have to say about therapy online. No points for correctly guessing which side she agreed with
I talked about my job for about 3/5ths of the time there, then segued into The Discourse by telling her about how I'd been writing daily during the first two weeks of my new job, but hadn't been as active lately
And I even asked her if she had any other chronically online clients she talked to and she reassured me that she had plenty, and even one who had kind of explained this whole debate to her before (from a proshipper stance, and how she lost a friend over it)
I explained my whole issue with her about how fandom is so deep into purity culture these days. And how reckless and raunchy it was in the 00s and how I don't want to go back to that, but there's got to be some middle ground somewhere.
I told her about some of the stuff I've written and all the weird or nasty comments I've gotten on it and how that can be discouraging. And I told her that most of my works are smut, and of those smut works, all of them have at least a little sprinkling of trauma in them. And she said that can be a good way to look at things. And used a real life example of how something could be awful but there could be good things about it too. Specifically saying that nothing is just black and white, everything has shades of grey. And that digging the little good out of the big bad is a positive thing, actually
And I told her about being a young teen and reading a fic with incest in it and having the sense not to immediately jump to "I want to recreate this in real life" and she was like "Yes, exactly. It's like this one book I read, umm..." and I was like "Flowers In The Attic?" just as a guess and she was like "Yes!" and said just because you read about something doesn't mean you want it to be your reality
And I did my best to explain the whole concept of how some people seem to think that everyone engages with fiction by putting themselves in the shoes of the main character, so if the main character is doing awful things then you must want to do awful things too. Which of course she said was in no way true
And she told me that she was such a big fan of horror movies and loved to watch those as a way to relax and unwind bc it gets her mind off her work, but that doesn't mean she wants to be a killer lol. And I had to be like "Oh no you don't understand. They think killing and torture and cannibalism is totally fine, it's just when you bring sex into the equation that people start freaking out" and she was confused at that lol
And of course she thought it was ridiculous that people can get called a pedo or a groomer or whatever other awful things over fictional stories.
So yeah it was a fun and reassuring conversation. I know I'm leaving some stuff out but I can't remember any more specifics of what was said. Plus I was talking a mile a minute bc I wanted to say everything on my mind before time was up asfdsfs it was a monumental task.
OH and I even brought up how people will literally say "well my therapist said..." just for some other people to accuse them of lying or saying their therapist is corrupt or some other bullshit which she was understandably aghast at. Because she is a licensed therapist who went to Therapy School and knows better, and is not a magical villain promoting propaganda fed to her by Big Proship to corrupt her clients. You know how it is <3

After 35 yrs. the owner of this fabulous 1877 Victorian in Mantua, NJ is retiring. The florist business and all the inventory comes with it (and there's a LOT- wait'll you see). Plus, the owner's apt. is upstairs. It has 3bds, 2ba. Asking $624,950. (And, I want it so baaaad.) It's also a venue for weddings, and the conservatory is used as a tea room/celebration room.
It's seriously a Victorian store. But, don't you have to learn how to be a florist? Like you have to know how to do floral arrangements, bouquets, corsages, etc. You have to know how to order, where buy from, all that stuff.
I could do the gift stuff, but I don't know about fresh flowers.
I wonder how hard it would be to convert it back- you can see the dining room entrance here.
Wow, too much stuff.
The conservatory has tables and chairs, but in this photo, it looks like it has Valentine roses ready to go.
This is the powder room for the conservatory.
More merch. Wonder what the turnover rate for this stuff is. I mean, you can keep the same stock out, but how can you buy more if you haven't sold any of this? If you rotate it, regular customers will notice.
Then, this is the workroom.
Look at all the sinks.
So, this is the little kitchenette in a corner where they make the tea and stuff for the tea room. And, those are the stairs to the apt.
And, after a long day, you climb the stairs home.
Here we are.
Comfortable living room.
Nice large kitchen. Look at the ceiling. No dishwasher? After being in the store all day, you have to come up here, cook and wash dishes, too?
Nice bath. Very pretty.
The primary bedroom has an alcove.
In the attic, there's storage.
The gardens are absolutely beautiful.
How pretty.
The wedding area.
The name of the business is Lavender & Lace.
How the house looked originally.

patches and stuff that i made (and didn’t!) for my wtnv jacket :3
little project Ive have that’s been in progress for a couple years :3 more details below the cut
glow cloud patch, this is just scrap fleece that i colored with old copic markers and hand sewed :) also tiny animals + beads that i stuck on there with fabric glue. the glitter is this holographic glitter paint that i love? i use it on everything.
(left) void patch is just canvas + paint marker and safety pins. the pin above it is from the attic tour, and the pin on the collar is from the haunting of night vale ^_^ the babydoll parts are earrings but i don’t usually wear earrings like that so i repurposed them
(right) eyeball pin is polymer clay and made by me, angel pin is from ultrainfinite on instagram :) little name tag is a repurposed gift card that i just painted and glued over :3 the cecil drawing is meant to resemble me a little more than the cecil i typically draw lol.
patch and sheriff badge are from the wtnv merch site, cowboy cat pin is from pinkgabbercat on instagram. the fake flower pins are technically for a different project but this is their home until i’m ready to use them for the other thing. the little eyeball emblems are made from a linocut stamp that i created a few years ago for a different project
patch for the back!! i rlly love how this came out, the dark purple is an old pillowcase and the moon is the same scrap fleece that i used for the glow cloud. my hand sewing ia kinda fuckass but it adds idk. plus glow in the dark stars!
i made the king city patch a while ago but it’s just canvas and paint pen too i think. plus fly pins that i also made!! little desert landscape button is magazine paper scraps. the cactus and house pins are from the tours i mentioned above, and unfortunately i cannot remember where i got the possum patch :( this is the back right panel of the jacket, for the back left panel i wanted to make a dark owl records patch eventually
i hope to have a little something from all the books on here at some point! something for each of the villains too (which u can see i’ve already kinda started with the beagle patch in the very first image)
this project is still super unfinished!! i have a desert bluffs jacket too that is also still in the works, so i’ll maybe post about that soon too!!
#i’m wearing this to a con tomorrow as part of a cecil cosplay !! if u see me feel free to say hi lol :3#i’ve been working on a big drawing of cecil in all the outfits i’ve cosplayed him in over the years? so i can show them off without posting#myself lmao#i’ll make an update to this post eventually as i progress more with the project ^_^#wtnv#welcome to night vale#cecil palmer

You work at the Mystery Shack in Gravity Falls.
It's no big deal, really. I mean, every once in a while, you realize that it's gotta be a front for something. A cult, the illuminati, or the mafia, you weren't really sure.
You weren't paid enough to care, honestly.
But the job was fun enough, and the customers were cool to screw with, and it paid the bills, plus your coworkers were pretty cool.
Your boss was.... an odd man, sure. A good con, a great sense of humor, and a mouth that could make a sailor blush, but you wouldn't say he's evil.
He's got a great nephew and niece, who come up every summer. They're chill, too. Mabel sends you home with at least two new stickers every day. Your binder is getting too full. But you didn't mind, the kid was sweet. You'd find a use for these stickers, later.
Gravity Falls was an odd town, but you didn't really seem to mind that either. A little town, barely even a dot on the state map, hidden behind back roads upon back roads in the great state of Oregon. It had its moments, and it's stories.
You were decently sure the lawn gnome in your garden moved on its own, and your attic was definitely haunted (you regret mentioning that to the kids– you've found that Dipper kid trying to look up where you lived), but it was cheap and homey, and a great place to live after scraping past college.
Then your boss– who was really your boss's brother? Who had taken up his name, when he disappeared, the ultimate con, you actually admired him for that– Stanley, and his twin, the original owner of the Shack, Stanford emerged from behind the vending machine, you knew that you were maybe in a little too deep. Mafia ties, for sure.
Then quite some events happen: ie, the sky splits open, you become a statue for a hot minute, and then... aren't, anymore (dude, the squirrel that you treat as your therapist is gonna go wild when he hears this) and you're back at the Shack.
The building is warmer now. Pointdexter– or Ford, the actual one, is a pretty good man. A little blunt, with not much common sense for the amount of books smarts he has, but good.
If you find anything weird, or out of place, it's his.
If you see him fighting an interdimensional squid, and then you're told there's seviche in the kitchen, you don't question it.
And you take some seviche to go.
The shack is a little louder since Ford's arrival. Stan seems happy. Dipper too. And Mabel, well, she still gives you stickers as you leave your shift.
You're on a walk, something you read that could help with coping, through the woods. The weather is nice today, and for once, it's not raining, and even better, the air is crisp and cool.
You decide to take a new trail. It leads into a bit of a clearing, you can see a rock piling, some flowers, and a creek. It's pretty.
You take your journal out, a small, leatherbound thing (the inside cover is coated with stickers. Mabel, please) and begin to sketch it, a hobby you've picked up in the last months.
You're not the best, but you're not the worst, either. As you're finishing up, you spot a weird shift in the rocks.
Weird is normal here.
So you get up to go investigate, holding your journal at the ready, like a defensive position.
The statue does not move.
It looks like the illuminati symbol. Like the top of the pyramid on the back of a dollar bill. It's overgrown with moss, but you do not recognize it. It's hand is held out, like it's ready to shake yours.
Heh. That would be pretty funny.
If you shook the statue's hand.
It's what it wants. Shake it's hand. Shake the hand.
You draw the statue. It's a shoddy deal, but you actually enjoyed how it turned out. It looks cool.
The hand is outstretched.
You leave one of Mabel's stickers on the statue. It looks a little less intimidating that way.
Your shift starts in twenty minutes, so you tuck your journal in your jacket, and you're off to it.
Maybe you'll come back later. There's a bit more you want to do with the drawing.
Shake the hand.
You've gotta fix the angle on it. You wonder how the sculptor got it to be that way.
You clock in, and pull your journal out again, as Dipper walks through the doors, followed by Ford.
The younger twin asks what your journal is about. He's got a few of his own.
"Kind of random." You tell him. "I draw things I see on my walks, or write down recipes, or stuff like that. Dude, wait until I show you this statue I found in the woods. It'll fit right in with those notebooks you keep..."

May perhaps I get caregiver! Wally w little! Reader hcs? I am starving to be a small child and have him take care of me hdjdjsjjdjs
I too am a small Victorian child in need of a 70s puppet dad
Caregiver!Wally Darling Headcanons
🍎 Definitely calls you stuff like “Little Neighbor”, “Apple”, “Sweetheart”, “Little One”, “My Most Baby” plus whatever nicknames you ask him to call you.
🍎 When the both of you paint, he helps you out from time to time, and always hangs up your finished product on Home’s walls.
🧃 If you don’t paint with him, he’ll at least ask for your opinion on his painting and subjects to paint.
🍎 Speaking of paint, Wally absolutely tries to do face paint on you; imagine him painting the littlest flowers on your face, or maybe turning you into a doggy!
🍎 I don’t think Wally initiates the hugs and cuddles, you do! All he does is ask if you want to.
🧃 He still goes limp when hugged though.
🍎 If his “I’m Sleeping” mantra bothers you, just ask and he’ll redirect himself into humming, which actually helps you sleep.
🍎 He may not comprehend apple pie, but apple slices - yes - anyway that’s why your most common little snack is apple slices.
🍎 Very good at playing all the games you want, maybe even inviting some neighbors if you’re ok with that.
🍎 Once he found his old baby blanket in the attic, but when you starting sleeping with it, his heart melted beyond recognition.
🍎 Remembers the names of all your toys; after all, they’re his friends too.
🍎 Yes he still stares at you, but he can try to catch and stop himself from staring too long if you get uncomfortable.
🍎 When you get sad or spooked, Wally’s there to calm you down with just the right amount of responsive affection you need, which tends to be the stuff that comforts you the most.
🍎 The younger you are, the less subtle his babying gets.
🧃 “Little Neighbor, can you tell me what color this book is? That’s right, it’s green!”
🍎 Hand holding is so normalized that Wally instinctively does it, even when you’re not small.

I left ptn in december but your hcs made me redownload it just for my wife. May I request something about Adela, my liege? How she would react to f!s/o proposing to her?
It's really funny when you guys call me 'my liege' and stuff, in a positive way! It makes me smile. I'm honored to have gotten you to redownload PTN and I hope you enjoy this crazy ride with the rest of us!
Now for a little something I like to call, "I can fix her (you actually can)."
Adela reacting to her f!s/o proposing to her
Marriage is something that Adela has long daydreamed about. It’s even cropped up a few times in her dreams. It never fails to set her heart fluttering, her cheeks warming as she pauses what she’s doing to simply bask in this glowing feeling.
However, she’s too worried about ruining what she has with her girlfriend to actually propose herself. Even Adela knows that this is a worry that she shouldn’t take her shears to. Being rejected by her girlfriend is an awful thought, but forgetting about her entirely is one that even she cannot bear.
So, when her girlfriend does what Adela herself does not have the courage to, she’s over the moon. She recovers from the surprise quite fast, actually, and there are tears in her eyes as she squeezes her girlfriend’s hands and whispers an ecstatic yes!
She’s pretty much glowing for the next week or so after the proposal. Adela has always been the sort of person to willingly shoulder most of the housework, but now she’s so enthused that most of the chores end up done before her now-fiancee can even consider it. Her fiancee would be worried about it if she wasn’t able to recognize it as Adela’s way of channeling her excitement out.
Adela doesn’t really have concrete plans for the future; if her fiancee asks, she’ll smile and say that as long as she’s with her beloved one, she’s okay with anything. It’s not a lie, either; if her wife-to-be wanted to move to a bigger, bustling area of Eastside, she’d do it with a smile for her. The only things Adela needs to be happy is her dearest partner and her hairdressing business.
In the end, the lifestyle they decide on is not so different to the one they live now; the biggest change is that they’ll settle down in one particular neighborhood rather than moving so often. Adela knows it means she’ll have to give up her habits as Mad Shears, but it’s worth it for this happiness. Plus, they’ll still travel – they’ll just always return to the same small, cozy neighborhood where everyone knows everyone at the end of the day. Vacations, rather than moving around all the time.
Though her initial excitement has mostly died down by the end of the first week, Adela is still visibly elated for the entire duration of the engagement. It’s not something that will die out after the ceremony, either; this new step of Adela’s life has irrevocably changed her for the better, and she’s happier than she’s ever been.
The wedding itself is small and traditional, both brides dressed in pure white gowns and veils. It takes place in an outdoor flower garden, and the sun itself is shining brightly as if the heavens themselves were blessing this union. As Adela seals her vows with her new wife with a kiss in front of their friends and her wife’s family, she knows that this is a decision she will never have to worry about.
Her shears sit in the attic collecting dust, all but forgotten.

Hot take-
Spoilers.
More memes below, Plus, Im yappin... AGAIN
The doctor is definitely not Monogamous. No, duh, we know that already.
BUT
Depending on the AU and your imagination, he could infact express his feelings for those he loves in all ways. We have:
Sax x 14 aka
#Retired Time Lords aka #saxten
They literally share a bed in Donna's attic...
And are married but are on the brink of divorce 24/7 .So what if they do nothing but argue? They cuddle sometimes.... while arguing..
But they're in counciling as we speak so not to worry.
(If I had a nickle...)
River x 14
I'm not sure what their any doctor ship name is, but I like to call this #RetiredSong.
He visits her in the computer all the time, and she teases him about remarrying, but he always wears her ring when visiting. They're still married. 14 already cried and asked if she wanted a divorce since he was unfaithful. She laughed at his face and then kissed him. He felt like a fool afterward for even asking.
Melanie x 14 aka
#DoctorDonut seems to fit this well. Or #CarrotDoctor im yet to decide.
They go on casual dates often (but aren't "together together" since the Doc has decided to stop dating humans) especially on holidays, in which Mel doesn't have many people to spend them with. You bet your ass he's showing up at UNIT with flowers on Valentine's Day, and the WHOLE office talks about it. It's THE TEA for daaayyzz. Rosie gets a bit embaressed when ever her uncle shows up to her job just to flirt with her coworker.
Yaz x 14
#Foryaz or #Yazteen
Same with Yaz. He's already apologized to her profusely about everything that's happened and told her that if she ever wants to go out "as a gender non disclosed partnership," he'd be in Donna's backyard. He takes out her for ice cream after break-ups. This time in a car, not in space, though it's still difficult for Yaz to see this wrinkly old married man as the young spunky woman she once knew and was head over heels for. "You tell me if you ever become a woman again, and no secrets this time, yeh?" "Deal."
Rose x 14
#RetiredRoses or just #Timepetals.
While he can't talk to her anymore directly, he dreams of her often and gets almost memory like snipets of himself holding a baby or seeing her cooking in the kitchen. Simple, domestic things. He thinks they're just dreams, but in reality, they're shared dreams between them. Nothing ever, too crazy happens. And they're usually no more than 6-10 seconds of connection. He'll look around, look at the baby in his arms that shares her nose, look up to Rose, and smile. "She's gorgeous." She smiles back. That's it. Short. Tiny. Teasing snipets of what he could have had. These dreams are barely remembered, but when he does, he goes to her fake grave and tells her about them. Leaves Roses and praises her for how much of a good mum she's grown to be.
Meanwhile, Rose revisits Bad Wolf Bay and talks to the ocean, tells her gorgeous baby girl stories. The story of the big bad wolf she once met with two hearts and a big howling blue box. One that saved a piggy instead of killing it. "And then he said wee wee wee all the way home to his mummy and daddy. Speaking of daddy's, where's yours wondered off too this time? Come on. Best go find him, huh?"
Clara x 14
#Osteen or if you really wanna angst, #RetiredRaven
Just the same as Rose, He visits her grave too. Mainly when he needs advice and can't trust to tell anyone else. He comes to the graveyard often to visit various people, but this one is the one he sits at, puts his forehead on, and cries to himself. This is where he goes to vent. If you stand there long enough, you'll hear him beg for her to tell him what to do. "I can't run anymore, Clara! I-.. I just can't.. but.. you told me to - you told me to run, but everyone else is telling me to stay put. Now what!? ... please.. just tell me what to do.." and usually, he will get an epiphany. He thinks it's because she "told him," but in reality, getting all of this out of his system just clears his head enough to think. He still glares at ravens whenever he sees them in the grave yard. Cursing at them. "Haven't you taken enough from me?" It's not the same one, but none the less it infuriates him that the universe rubs it in his face like so.
And so many more. Bassically, if they're still alive and on decent terms, they've been on at least ONE date, if not? He talks to their grave. Hell, he's even let Jack take him to the pub. Just once. (Even though they ended up crying over River, and somehow Jack ended up buttnaked on a table. Let's just say they're not allowed there anymore...)
This is what's in MY head, idc that much if you disagree. Civily debate me, you cowards, he has enough attention and love for everyone, and two hearts is a lot to fill, oh and ofc the TARDIS is a part of this. In a weird.. sentiant.. machine.. kinda way.. It's complicated..
And before anyone comes at me with the ridiculous notion of "Well that's cheating"
THEY ALL KNOW.
So no, it's not. Consensual non monagamy has been a thing since before the beginning of time. The worst thing that happens is Sax gets jealous and tries to kill someone when, in reality, he just wants more attention/to come along too. He may make a shit ton of "gasssp you cheated on me!?" Jokes, but he knows. He's fully aware. Not of every tiny detail, but yes, he does indeed know that his husband is out having lunch with another woman right now, Linda. "How about you stalk your own husband ya nosey bitty before I fuck him myself." - the Master, Probably.
The only thing he really whines about is if 14 is A. Late coming home, B. Doesn't bring him back a treat or C. He doesn't invite him to come along. 70% of the time, the Master says no. It's just the principle of the matter.
And yes, They have rules. Just like any other relationship. Communication is definitely key for everything. Obviously, the Master isn't allowed to come to UNIT, and very rarely does he wish to come with his husband to watch him have a meltdown in a grave yard.
He has, however, came with him a few times to the library and now has a wee crush on her, too. (Who wouldn't?) But 14 doesn't exactly enjoy that the whole time they're bassically gossiping about him, in front of his face.
I call this #Retired Time Lords³
Sax: And then this one time in school-
Doc: Oh god not the academy-
River: YES the academy!
Sax: He slipped and hit his head and- *wheeze* HE WOULDN'T STOP CRYING BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO REGENERATE
River: *falls over* 💀
Doc: -_-
As always. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Portugal Day 1!
The view from my hotel room is perfection! I am in a cute little attic room (does me three flights of stairs plus a spiral staircase) with a view of the river and city.
I also perfectly timed catching the bus at the airport and was easy to just get my ticket with the bus driver with cash. The flight was fine (although my pasta did sadly have mushrooms in it) and customs was a breeze.
I relaxed in my room for a bit before heading out to wander. First thing I found was a handmade market where I acquired beautiful purple earrings.
And then it was time for my ticket to the Clérigos tower. There were a bunch of museum rooms on the way up and you could see the chapel too. A lot on the history of the tower and general religious things, like the room full of crucifixes which was a little creepy (some were quite bloody) and then also a Picasso room and general art
The view from the top of the tower was great and I caught golden hour and a bit of the sunset orange
And then I wandered a bit more and acquired my first pastel de nata, and it was in fact delicious and I am excited to eat so many more. I also loved that in some places the streets are so hilly that the chairs and tables outside need extenders on one side to be flat.
And then I head to a wine bar where I had veal pies and chocolate cake with a ruby port. And then it was shower bed and asleep by 9.
Overly long travel diary
Day 1!
Finally we were off. I got a blanket and a pillow and tried to sleep as much as possible only waking up for dinner and breakfast. For dinner I got the pasta! Although it had mushrooms and some of it was over reheated and crunchy the middle tortellini were good. And I like the Carmel cake for dessert. I didn’t sleep well but hopefully enough to get through the day. And I finished book one of the trip. Passport control was a breeze (although my stamp is kind of faint :( ), my bag came out pretty quickly, and now doubt at all the my green with painted purple flowers one was mine haha. Customs was not existent. I stopped at an atm and I hope I did it right to get the better conversion and that Charles Shwab will refund the atm fees. My timing for the bus was perfect. I was going to get a transport card but didn’t see a place to do that but was able to just pay cash, 2.50 for the bus fare. And the timing was perfect!
Obsessed with the guy on the bus who got on at the ikea stop with a large rug and nothing else. Love how the bus has a giant screen with the next stop on it.
Easy walk to the hotel and easy breezy up and into my room with key codes. They did put the wrong WiFi password in the email but it was also in the stairwell so all is well. Other than that my hotel room is absolutely perfect. It’s so cute the view is to die and I am so pleased. It even has a mini fridge in it!
I hang out in the room for too long gathering myself and then head out to wander the streets. I find what I think is one of the view points and am underwhelmed (the actual view point is higher and much better)
And then I stumble upon on handyman artisans fair in a cool building. They have so many earring! And many of them are reasonably priced. This is my dream. I get a pair of purple ceramic flowers for 15 euros that smell like perfume. Haven’t even been here an hour and already found my ideal souvenir.
I wander a bit more and head to my timed tickets for the clerigios tower. I am hoping to catch sunset at the top but we’ll see. The museums on the way up are much more extensive than I thought! Many are about the church but there’s also general crucifixes and a piccaso room. I was worried the climb to the tower would be miserable on so little sleep but it was broken up so much that it was totally fine. Got up there just as the sun was beginning to set which I think was perfect. Just the hint of orange and pink in the sky but could still see everything. The ideal golden hour.
They also had to take dorky green screen pictures before going all the way up and they are so kitschy but I still paid ten euros for one anyway haha.
I put my photo back in my hotel (it is so close!) and watch the rest of the sunset from my room with its great view.
I am so sad because the wine bar right next to my hotel is closed on Sundays and the two sandwhich places I was thinking of, are also closed.
But there is another wine bar so I head there. I try my first port, a ruby, and is very good although tastes strong. I have it with veal pie (dinner) and chocolate cake (recommended to go with the port so how could I say no). It’s a little weird to be in a wine bar by myself but there is some fun people watching at least. A little more street wandering and then thankfully to bed. I’m so excited for bed. Showered and in bed by 9.
#Portugal#travel diary#day 1#look at me almost keeping up#don’t expect it to last#or at least it will get haphazard fast#but this far I am having a magical trip

eight weeks down, seven to go!! halfway point crossed!! this week i managed to have halloween off and took it FULLY off with a very nice day getting a fancy seasonal coffee beverage & voting & hanging out cozily at home & watching black christmas (1974) and black christmas (2006) with pals :) :) :) with that day off i came in at about 33 hours of work.
work-wise i am Stressed about i would say three of my current students who i am not sure are on track to do as well as their parents want (one pretty much definitely will not and it’s stressing me out Bad)… but the nice thing about test prep is that in between five and seven weeks it will no longer be my problem. i am also literally mad at this middle schooler who wants to retake despite doing really well like omg let me live 😭 i’m spending time prepping tests i’ve never used before and might not ever again because no one takes this many frickin practice tests…. also a little worried about getting this ACT kid to where she wants to be math wise but she’s a junior so she has time.
i only worked out 4 times this week (got my steps in, though!) which is mostly annoying bc it messes up my rest day schedule if i want to still finish this program before thanksgiving, which i think i do more than i want to retain my rest day schedule for the next three weeks. this week i have saturday off due to various long weekend reschedules, no free store cuz it’s our off week, & a middle school friends catch up assuming [redacted] doesn’t flake last minute (big if lol) + book club! my personal goals are to finish flowers in the attic for book club & do at least one blurb a day for singles jukebox week (i put one in for tomorrow!), lol, plus to of course see if i can tame the kitchen mess (which was kind of a 3 steps forward 2.5 steps back situation this week). buuuuut also miss rona has seen fit to come back to our household so this is all conditional on me not getting sick from the person in my home who is tragically full of germs 😞 cross your fingers for me & stream the new pom pom squad album!

Using this as my confessional because I respect you (the Incest Priestess) more than I respect any man with endless faith and a gaggle of choir boys chasing at their ankles
I swear to god my entire family is like an incest Hunger Games and I'm Ratpiss Neverclean or whatever her name is because both my father and my mother raised me to be like the polycule wifesband mediator. A bunch of times when I'd have nightmares I'd crawl into their bed and they'd have sex with me right there in the middle but that's neither here nor there. Anyway yeah it wasn't just emotional incest it was the real deal Borgias style Flowers In The Attic type shit.
Ok so my sibling's like a whole generation older than me - was a teen when I was born - and they'd go between hating me and beating the shit out of me to kissing me and saying we'd get married when I was older plus other shit like y'know. Willem DaFoe handjob from the Antichrist type shit. I learned everything I know about sex from them and my parents really and they all get real pissy whenever I have a relationship or literally anything of a sexual nature it's kinda funny
But then they left me with my parents so fuck them I guess. I won't even get into the shit with my uncles and cousins or my grandparents LOL but yeah shit happened there too kinda crazy but it's one big happy family orgy I guess. Hell's pretty temperate this time of year I hear Anyway now I can't have a sexual or romantic relationship without my partner knowingly playing into the role of a sibling and parental figure. Thanks for listening. My life is a true crime documentary
1. I love Incest Priestess thank you 2.
3. Sorry about all that

Missing
I miss the days of children’s books. Packed away in the attic is a copy of
Which was just awesome. It has all the little poems about flowers, each with an illustration, but it also has a short story or two in the back. The Fairy Necklaces
is one that I liked a lot; sweet and charming without being saccharine or silly. She managed a surprisingly sensible, reasonable ending for a ‘fairy story’, plus the adults,
when Jenny turns up with a sudden hoard of literal fairy jewelry, all believe her. The grown-ups around her just pivot neatly from grinding poverty to helping her figure out what to do with handfuls of gemstones and gold (and this is crucial) without pissing off the fairies who gifted them to her. It’s just the sweetest little story.
Oh, hey, it’s on the internet archive!

This 1877 home in Franklin, Pennsylvania needs some work and sprucing up, but the interior is stunning. 4bds, 3ba, $279K.
Plus, there's this little servant's house that could be rental income.
The entrance hall needs brightening, but it has original ceiling beams, floors and railings.
It looks like it's currently being used as an office building, but luckily, they haven't renovated it and everything is still intact.
For some reason, they put up this door w/side panels right behind the columns- that has to go. Look at how close it is- it's up against it.
Closeup of an original fireplace. Isn't this unusual? Next to it is an original heating grate. Even if it's not functional, it's a great feature.
This is actually the dining room with two built-in cabinets and an original fireplace. Look at the wonderful inlaid floor.
The kitchen had a DIY reno where they painted all the wood a flat black.
There's a small pantry.
This room is also an office and features a built-in bookcase. I hope they didn't ruin the bottom with all that stuff.
Details of a stained glass window.
Apparently they finished the lovely floor around the bed. I kind of like the flowers on the wall.
This is a nice bedroom with a beautiful fireplace, but again, they finished the floor only around the bed.
The ceiling in this room has a beautiful design.
Look at the wonderful original marble sink.
It isn't often that you find an original bath. Only the toilet is new.
There's a sunporch in the back, but you can't even get in with all the office stuff.
The basement. It may be the old coal room behind this door.
Up in the attic is a lovely stick construction room with a great fireplace and leaded glass windows.
I always liked Victorian stick construction and this vintage bath is great- the sink and toilet look original.
This is a beautiful room.
The lot is .86 acre.
The muddy creek along the property is called French Creek.

ghosts s3 ep1 spoilers under the cut
maybe i’m just delusional, but i still feel like it’s not really flower who got sucked off. because like,,, nothing big happened with her recently? idk why it would have been her?? and also the fact that they showed ralph and stephanie in the recap plus mentioned that stephanie was alone sleeping in the attic again,,, i feel like maybe it was ralph who got sucked off. plus out of all the ghosts, flower would be the easiest to do a fake-out with since she could have just wandered off into the woods and forgotten about them all for a hot second. but idk. maybe they really did fridge her :( i hope not though :/
