I don't talk much about my own plurality in relation to this game (mainly cause it still feels like a pretty new discovery for us. just last year, we were 100% sure we were a singlet despite relating to systems before), but I see a lot of talk about Long Quiet's systemhood (which is awesome and I'm glad it exists), but not too much about Shifty's, which is the one we relate to the most.

She's composed of many individual pieces, but she's also a Whole composed of those pieces. You cannot meaningfully separate the individual parts from the whole, but you also can't deny their individuality.

She's very median system to me, and has really helped me understand ourselves a lot better now that we know we're a system.

one of the reasons i think that is hard for singlets to wrap their brain around about us plurals is that no one of us has the same experiences with everything.

i always see singlets asking us how we experience X or what X is like for us and the truth is that.... everymany of us is different.

there's some discourse around the idea of whether or not sysmembers can die in the headspace. The truth is that sometimes they can for some people! but other times they can't! Sometimes people define things like dormancy and death differently. Sometimes there are different laws inside of our headspaces, that don't apply inside of the real world. We can experience supernatural things, someone might already be dead when they show up and still exist and front. Because they're a ghost, or a zombie, or whatever else. And maybe sometimes they can't be. Sometimes the laws of the physical world do apply in headspace. Everybody is different!

Also, sometimes plurals are going to find certain things offensive, and others won't. We personally find it really offensive to think of ourselves as "parts of a whole" instead of "many people sharing a body" But I've seen others who actually find that it's comforting and healing to think of themselves as "parts" who were created from trauma. It literally always depends on the system.

Reminder to all the headmates/alters out there that developing a distinct style of talking, an accent, a sense of style, a sense of individuality, aside from the rest of your system, takes practice a lot of the time. You don't need to feel like you're not distinct enough, figuring out who you are can take time, and figuring out how you are most comfortable talking and existing is a process of trial and error. Don't fret about it– you'll figure it out eventually.

🦴⛓️; One thing I don’t understand is how in some plural spaces there’s a rule like “littles must be accompanied by a big/caretaker!” As if we have control over that?

Usually our littles front alone. They can handle themselves, though (as long as Scout stays quiet, because pups voice is SO different and high-pitched and pup can’t mask pupself). Idk just fronting isn’t something especially disordered systems can control, sometimes non-disordered systems can’t either.

Offline we have our partner system who is great at calming us down when we’re triggered, and their own caretaker will front for our littles. I’m sure most other systems (especially those around our body-age) have their coping skills?

Idk it’s just a weird rule! Weirdly controlling over other systems! I haven’t seen anyone else talk about this and it’s really strange.

Wait actually can I ask you to elaborate about relating to Shifty when it comes to plurality? You don't have to, of course, but I'm frankly fascinated by it because my view of Shifty is completely different (I see her as one person who is viewed through many perspectives and situations but in the end is just one person. I guess I see her as someone with many "identity" states but who's nonetheless a singular being). I guess I can see some stuff (I assume you view Shifty taking the Vessels as something that's similar to switching?) if I take a step back from my interpretation of her, but I'd like to hear your point of view and elaboration because I may be completely off and I'm curious.

Sure, I don't mind! We may not have opened up a lot about our plurality here, but it doesn't mean we're not willing to lol

I already talked about it a lil bit in this post, but I relate to Shifty as a median system who doesn't really works in very conventional ways.

The way we work is that we have a 'main host' responsible for the current lifestage, and that was probably created to better deal with it (when we properly started school, we made Violet, and after graduating, I was spawned to help us through out loneliness and depression). Because of that, the way Shifty works is very similar to our experience. When a vessel's story is done, their purpose is fulfilled, they can finally step down and rest. When we school was coming to an end, Violet didn't really work as our 'main face' anymore, and with some difficults we had with that transition (stuff I'd rather not get into) it was for the better that she was reclaimed to allow space for a new host to take shape.

And I also had other systems (don't member if they said they were median as well, but they also mentioned relating to her) talk about how they also relate to Shifty as someone who doesn't really see their alters as entirely separate people. We may have different wants and thoughts, but we're still connected by the same center, and still part of the same whole.

Also, since I'm front-stuck as the current host, having other facets pop in to say their piece and then fade back to the background feels a lot like the final battle with Shifty where she's summoning her vessels to say their piece to the argument lol

My plural perspective on Severance is that the innies deserve to be able to exist in the outside world as their own people and be able to switch with their outies on a daily basis. Whether or not this will actually end up happening in the story is debatable but they have the right to exist on their own terms instead of being reintegrated.

i think we're starting to realize that there's very rarely only one of us fronting at a time and that the fact we've been assuming we should be one of us at a time is probably why identifying and figuring out headmates is difficult
