Hi.

I'm going to break my very strict format for once because I need your help. For the past 9 years, the irl human behind this blog has been involved in the effort to save a museum from incompetent and money hungry executives.

The museum is filled with precious objects, telling the story of the history of technology, and how it relates to art and society.

Many of these are objects are large, but delicate and have been in place for over 30 years.

No one within the museum's community trusts the CEO, who was appointed by a hostile former government, and prefers renting out museum spaces for business functions over educating the public.

In a few days, the museum is set to close down for renovations. Yet none of the staff or volunteers have been given any clear details about these plans. All we know is displays which have inspired generations will be torn down, likely never to be restored.

- A Petition For Accurate Data Reporting In Criminal Statistics -

About the Petition:

The goal of the "NOT OUR CRIMES" petition is to call attention to the reporting inaccuracy of criminal statistics as it pertains to biological women (XX) and biological men (XY). Previously, 'The Federal Bureau Of Investigation' reported that, "in 2023, 73.8 percent of all arrestees were males. Males accounted for 80.1 percent of persons arrested for violent crimes and for 62.6 percent of persons arrested for property crimes. Males comprised 88.7 percent of persons arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter in 2023. Of the total number of persons arrested for drug abuse violations, 79.7 percent were males". Statistical inaccuracies related to gender identity can arise from a variety of sources, affecting the reliability and validity of data in this area. These inaccuracies can significantly impact research outcomes, policy decisions, and the understanding of gender identity issues. Statistical inaccuracies can also further isolate Females (XX) who are victimized based on their biological sex and not a gender identity.

The phrase "NOT OUR CRIMES" often appears in discussions about the historical and ongoing injustices that marginalized groups face. We argue that gender identity should NOT be considered in the reporting of violent and sexual crimes, and that this practice on a broader scale attempts to further ERASE the biological Female/Girls (XX) as victims of sex-based crimes. Globally. statitica data suggests that the majority of sexually violent crimes are committed by biological men. If sexually violent crimes that are committed by men are now labelled as crimes committed by "females", based on gender-selection, then this data is flawed and any societal laws set to protect the Female (XX), will further be eliminated.

I have started a petition to the UK Government to scrap the new transphobic building requirements for every new non-residential building to have separate binary gendered toilets. It’s an ongoing part of the Tory hostile environment that means fewer public buildings will be able to provide ungendered bathrooms, as they are very unlikely to build three separate spaces.

I’m sure you all know how bathrooms are currently a flashpoint for transphobic abuse and violence, but I wanted to raise the fact, as a disabled nonbinary person, that only providing gendered bathrooms mean more trans binary and nonbinary and intersex people who are afraid of facing attack or abuse in them for being perceived as being “in the wrong space” end up having to use accessible bathrooms, even if they don’t have accessibility needs, for safety.

Given how inadequate accessible bathroom provision is, this means more people being forced into using an inadequate number of facilities, which can be really unpleasant for people with GI problems and other reasons they might need to use bathroom facilities very urgently.

Basically, this is a way to screw a whole load of marginalised people at once. I would really appreciate if you could sign and share my petition - I know it’s easy to feel it’s pointless, but given the Tories are such blatant populists, it’s far from the first time they have u-turned when people make noise about an issue.

I strongly agree that there are world events that deserve much more news coverage and resources than the Titan because frankly it should’ve been immediately assumed they were dead when sonar couldn’t find them and communication was lost.

However, I don’t necessarily think it’s fair to compare the EU coast guard and the US and Canada's various first response teams that responded to the Titan. Because they’re separate entities.

Do I think people should care more about the refugee ship that capsized due to alleged incompetence of the coast guard? Yes. I do. And I hope more survivors can be found because that was a genuine tragedy.

Do I think that it should be getting the same kind of attention as the Titan? Not really. Because people are just memeing on the Titan, and the average tumblr user has around $0.20 to their name and maybe 400 followers so this isn’t a very good platform for getting meaningful help for those affected by that situation.

This isn’t even a “you can care about two things at once” situation, because again with the Titan you should be very amused by 4/5 of those deaths whereas there’s nothing funny about what happened to that fishing ship. These are very different niches in cultural awareness and your ire should be towards media companies over random people on social media.

So I was rewatching Hotel Transylvania on Netflix using the SignUp Captions Chrome Extension to watch an American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation of it side-by-side (I do this to keep my language skills somewhat intact and just to see how different interpreters operate — highly recommend if you want a free and fun way to experience ASL, British Sign Language, Indian Sign Language and Australian Sign Language!) and here are a couple of cool/funny things I noticed:

a) during the first time Dracula does his weird growl/anger thing, the interpreter chooses to gesture at the film as if to say “just watch this” instead of try to emulate it, which is super hilarious to me. You know the count is being a drama queen when even an ASL interpreter just goes “yeah no, you can see this for yourself”. They do emulate his last anger/growl thing at the end and it’s great. I love it!

b) the interpreter does interpret the iconic “bleh, bleh-bleh!” in an interesting way. There is actually a “blah blah blah” sign which they could have used, but I think their way is better (and more funny). Basically, they use a classifier sign (this is kind of hard to explain if you’re not familiar with the language — just think of it as a way of highlighting specific details or conveying information efficiently in a way where you don’t necessarily *create* new signs, you just use get creative with them to get the point across? I’m not sure if that makes sense). Here’s what it looks like in action:

The “bleh, bleh-bleh” part is specifically when they make the two-handed fist and have one fist move away from the other in a rhythm similar to how the character says it while also mouthing the words with their tongue out. I love this because you can even see how they subtly change their facial expressions from Johnny to Dracula when this happens: for Johnny, this expression is over-exaggerated and almost over-confident. It says “yep this is Dracula!” But when they sign Dracula doing it, it’s very close to how Dracula actually does this in the movie: with a deep frown and an expression of disgust.

So yeah, just some cool details I noticed!
