The best part of having a blog is how many random houseplant updates I can make and nobody can stop me. :]
Repotted one of my succulents (labeled Echeveria 'Pink Ruby' which means it's probably a Sedeveria 'Pink Ruby') from the nursery pot into the first of six really cute little porcelain teacup pots that I got and I'm sooo happy with how it looks. If I sunstress this one enough, it'll turn a pretty bright red, which I think matches this cup well.
And on the note of succulents, I also am trying to prop this burro's tail with a couple stems and some leaves! I really love how they look when they're all bushy, but they're borderline impossible to repot, so I'm starting off with a big pot right away and will just be careful about watering.
The Pilea Moon Valley that I proplifted a while ago also grew enough roots in water that I potted it today. I decided on just using regular houseplant potting soil with worm castings after reading around online and seeing that one person had good luck with using that in low-humidity environments since it retains water a little better and this plant normally wants high humidity. I genuinely adore the texture of these leaves so much.
First bloom opened on my Ons. Red Silk 'HOF'! With many more to come. I actually made a horrible mistake and accidentally broke off another flower spike that this plant started growing, and it still hurts my soul to think about.

Dammit Tumblr don't eat my posts??
Well I had written a bunch and now I don't remember what it all was. But I've finally gone through my succulents to make room and plan on donating them to the local park.
Bye babies, have fun in your new home👋

Violet Oscyle 🪻🐦⬛
I’ve been chipping away at some concept art for a webcomic idea I’ve had floating in my mind titled Violet Ties for about a decade now, so here’s a look at a flower concept design called the Violet Oscyle!

I started soaking these Lupinus albifrons seeds maybe 36hr ago, but as you can see only one has so far taken in any water. When I soak other legume seeds like peas or beans, they all plump up by the next morning.
Imbibing water is the first step of germination, and as far as I know it's irreversible (but this being biology I wouldn't be surprised to learn of exceptions); metabolism kicks into a high enough gear that drying out again will kill the germinating seed. This explains the difference between cultivated legumes and this lupine, native to a region known for its seasonal dryness. The lupine seeds only commit irrevocably to germination after water has been available for long enough to assure them of its continued presence. Or at least I assume that's what this adaptation is for.
Anyway, the general recommendation for native lupine seeds is to scarify the seeds, that is, to mechanically damage the seed coat enough that water has an easier time getting in. I'm seeing if soaking them will work instead, since it's easier.
