Viv: with helluva boss we’re basically doing a musical!
Critics: I’m sorry Viv, I just don’t think a demon office based sitcom in hell is comparable to musical theatre.
Viv: Are you trying to crush my broadway dreams like my dad did?
I'm dying.

Hi I just wanted to send you some positivity and thank you for making this blog! It’s so interesting to see, and feels like a historic record. It seems I misunderstood it’s purpose completely, and for that I’m sorry! It’s great to see that the Instagram character was a comfort for you, though for me unfortunately, the new current stolas is one of my biggest discomfort characters ever because of reasons you and I both know. I tend to block any blogs dedicated to him cause of the cruel new fans :(
It’s hard I’m sure, but I hope you can see this blog through to the end cause it’s a fascinating journey to see the transition from actual nice guy to this newer…r/niceguys ™ stolas we have now.
No worries, I understand completely!
I'm in the same boat myself. This Stolas was my comfort character at one time, and new current Stolas is the very opposite, and it's pretty excruciating to see both Viv and the fandom try to hijack the mysterious Instagram operator's gorgeous art, sensitive writing, and actual hard work.

See, I can buy him being nervous and walking on egg shells around Mammon being he's his boss (and maybe a father figure, even if said father figure is an abusive prick) and even having anxiety in letting him down but with the case of Glitz and Glam and (with the expectation of the flashback) that 'critic' guy, c'mon he wouldn't hold back! If anything, he could likely get away with sassing G&G being they're competition, but I can see Mammon having a talk with him about doing so with paying customers, regardless if those customers were there in good faith or not because ya know, it wouldn't be on brand. Gotta rake in that cash.
The reason why I love Fizzarolli is because he is a snarky little shit. Taking away that part of him after showing that he has the confidence, let alone gall to do that, even to those that likely could and would kill him. It's part of who he is so taking a uturn in this fashion is bad writing and is Vivizepop's way of saying that only good, wholesome people can be 'victims' of abuse which is far from the case.
I'm gonna bring up Starscream from Transformers (notability the IDW comics, Prime and Earthspark being the best portrays of this even if TFP's abuse was played for laughs) again because I think he's a great example of what I'm talking about: Starscream is an asshole and (I say this with affection btw) a bitch. He's killed plenty of people without remorse, is manipulative and will backstab you if it will benefit him. He's also a sassy little bitch who knows he's a POS and is unapologetic about it.
However, for years/millennia he served as second in command to Megatron, who is/was (again depending what version Transformers) physically and at times emotionally abusive, and various beatings by him were close to life threating. I recommended reading IDW's Spotlight Megatron if want a good example of how bad this could get. Transformers Prime is also a great example even if the writers seem to like to portray it as Starscream 'deserved it' even when shown that Megatron does it for no reason other than he can and even finds some amusement in it.
This can be written and shown better than others and not all Starscream's are the same, but I feel like he's a good example of a charcter not being the 'prefect' image of an abuse victim. Some versions of him can be a bit abusive himself even if not to the same degree as Megatron aka repeating the cycle which does happen sometimes sadly.
Yes, Fizz isn't the same kind of character that Starscream is but it shows that anyone can be a victim of abuse, even assholes and it's a disserves to victims of abuse of any kind to not show that. To use the old excuse people use about this being set in hell: Why are you so scared to portray these characters not being the best of people or only some characters can be PoS while those who you claim aren't are told to be helpless victims? This IS Hell after all, right Viv?
Also: Fizz is a Jester (regardless what Viv thinks, Jesters and Clowns aren't the same)! That's basically what Jesters do: Throw shade and roast people, including those in power and are often the only ones that are allowed to get away with it with no repercussions (most of the time anyways).
Honestly I kinda want to rewrite that confrontation with the 'fan' now after writing this. Maybe I will, maybe I won't idk but regardless sorry that this ended up so long.
As much as I still love Fizz, I don't like how Vizize has a habit of 'woobie-izng' her characters in order to make them sympathetic. A character can still be an asshole while the audience can still have sympathy for them, or at least understand that they're in a bad situation (Starscream from Transformers is one good example depending on who's writing him).
Taking away someone's bite/nerfing them and turning them into a sad boi isn't good writing, it's just lazy.

Stolas Goetia is a well-known meteorologist whose divine power strikes fear into all across the Underworld. He continues to spread knowledge of astronomy and plants in honor of the deceased, original prince Stolas.
While he primarily watches over the planets and the sky’s upcoming events, he is a rather well-endowed expert on a different kind of magic..
Pure, unadulterated control.
While his Grimmore contains a spell to conjure access to the mortal world, he has a spell accessible to his eyes only; a spell to gather the minds of hundreds, thousands of people below him to listen to him only.
Someone calls him out for being a deadbeat husband? Suddenly they’re a terrible person who “likes tormenting” the poor owl.
Someone doesn’t want to forgive him? Too bad, they forgive him already in spite of him neglecting them hundreds of times.
Someone doesn’t want to return his lustful affections? They’re a terrible person to be shunned by everyone, they are threatened to die. They are his and his only to shower in love and nights of fornication.
It’s everything Stolas wants; he has parts of the Underworld and the minds of hundreds of people he finds relevant enough to keep. He doesn’t want to be woken up from his fantasy. He wants to be coddled for all eternity, he wants to scream out his sad ballads of being unloved, he wants everything to go his way.
It’s his show now.
.
.
.
.
Here’s a fun idea, why not make the canon of HB a Wandavision type of situation? It’s all Stolas.
I was largely inspired by @scarletpixels and @pinkandpurple360 ‘s interpretations of villain Stolas. He had so much missed potential,,
That’s all for today!

Stolen from @pinkandpurple360 anonymous ask.
"Blitz still has a long way to go with character development”
That's great. I can't wait to never see it.
This was an issue I tried working into my Fizzarolli Dissection but it kept feeling less about the character and more an overarching writing issue, so let's just take it here.
Every bit of character development in the series is inconsistent or entirely spontaneous. Stolas being in love with Blitz seemed like a slow burn until out of nowhere in Ozzie's he is so head over heels for Blitz in specific. Asking why Blitz only now is asking him out "after all this time", like he has been waiting on and expecting it despite that never being a thought towards their dynamic before. Going from being entirely obsessed with their sexual contract and seeing Blitz as a sex object to suddenly wanting cuddles on the couch with no strings attached?
That change was never shown in the series. It was never developed. There is no character growth, they merely are different to suit the new direction to the plot.
So again, I'm so glad Blitz has more character development to go through, can't wait for it all to be implied off screen like every other ounce of character we've been gaslight into believing has "grown".
If you never show it on screen, the dynamic, the relationship, the change, it never happened. Loona at the end of Queen Bee seems to get closer to Blitz but the next time we see her she's trying to assault him. We never saw any moment of change following the end of Queen Bee where we felt her character actually develop. Even after calling Blitz dad in the episode, she ignores him in favor of strangers at the party. She expressed clear disgust with Blitz before leaving with him, and her mild softening towards him at the end could just as easily be seen as nothing at all as it could be a character growth.
However growth requires reinforcement. If you never reinforce that moment meant something, it isn't growth, it's a cheap emotional scene to get a reaction from an audience. A short scene of Loona simply telling Blitz good morning to show some kind of change was all that was needed, but it was not as important to establish change in the characters as it was to have the most cringe scene in existence. Priorities.
One of the biggest issues with the series is how blatant the meta agenda of the writing is. They never allow the space to establish characters or change, instead citing these one off moments as “proof” of story when they do not amount to anything at all. There is unfortunately a distinct difference between a story and a scene, and it is painfully obvious by how Medrano and Nylan utilize these scenes that it is entirely for a superficial effect.
The relationship between Fizzarolli and Blitz similarly is extremely vapid and has no foundation to establish what their dynamic actually was growing up. Additionally, the two scenes of them being younger are fundamentally contradictory. Younger Fizz from The Circus is assertive and confrontational. He threatens to punch Blitz for being annoying and not playing the way he wants to play. He's bossy without necessarily being mean and not only knows he's popular, but also how to utilize it as manipulation, seen in how he draws attention to himself to spare Blitz the embarrassment of his failed joke. This Fizzarolli actually lines up also with the Fizz from Ozzie's. It's hard to claim that Ozzie's Fizz was "just an act" when as a literal child he has all the same traits
Then in the Special he is insecure, timid, has very little self esteem and is an anxious people pleaser with a mousy voice. There is nothing to establish this as the same person at all, and all the narrative context clues around his popularity does not support the direction of change this character has experienced. Fizzarolli has only gotten bigger between being what appears to be six years old and what I can only assume to be thirteen based on his cracking pubescent voice and gangly limbs. All we can go on is context clues and extrapolation, but arguing of a non-existent event that humbled Fizzarolli to this extent, while maintaining his stardom prior to ever meeting Mammon, is founded on nothing, when there is a much simpler answer.
His whole personality has taken a 180 turn for the sole purpose of the episode’s narrative. Fizzarolli being the pathetic whump he is in the episode is not founded anywhere else in the show, but we need that so people feel bad for him. There is no confidence in this writing. It shows that instead of believing the character is likeable as a whole for a complex personality, the only way anyone will like him is if he is just the softest jellybean in the bunch.
It is only this way because it suits the episode right here and now. And when his character changes, it isn't founded on any concrete narrative of growth and actions having consequences, but on what the writers need to get the audience to feel a certain way. So I say it again:
That's nice, I can't wait to never see it.

even the fans' strongest argument against Blitz kinda falls apart when people actually examine what happened during The Circus - someone articulated how Stolas basically went out of his way to create the whole situation in the first place
https://www.tumblr.com/pinkandpurple360/755746182693847040/fans-act-like-the-only-weird-thing-stolas-did-in?source=share
like the way fans talk about this scene you'd think Blitz made it sexual first. that he jumped at the idea of sleeping with Stolas and constantly buttered him up with sweet talk afterwards
but he didn't. his first reaction to Stolas being weird was to be like 'uhh....[ravish] you?' like it obviously hadn't crossed his mind. then he tries to dip and only goes back because he pities Stolas.
then after that he does absolutely nothing to give Stolas the idea he's into him - he avoids his calls & once forced into the deal he's constantly annoyed by all of Stolas' advances and tells him off multiple times as bluntly as possible.
I think the one time he's actually enthusiastic about the sex is full moon and that's explicitly stated to be after they haven't met up in months. The rest of the time the most enthusiasm he musters is a sort of indifference like in harvest moon and truth seekers. yet fans talk about it like Blitz was constantly playing with Stolas' feelings or something when half the time they barely even feel like they're on good terms as business associates
It really feels like people are just ignoring the information the show is directly laying out to them just to form their own interpretation of the show so they can then use that interpretation to defend it.
Blitz made it clear to Stolas multiple times how he felt yet Stolas kept on ignoring it, he was never playing with Stolas’ feelings at all. Stolas made it about sex first, not Blitz.

Golden Goose (Mammon x Stella) Headcanons
You can see my first batch of thoughts for these two here.
This particular batch is quite general and will have some family stuff and how the relationship effects those around the lovely couple.
Mammon is, ironically, more of a night owl than Stella and she often falls asleep first.
Before they got together, Mam would usually sleep with a large pillow in his arms for slight emotional comfort. Stella's presence comforts him far more, calling back to the last one, though it still takes him a bit to nod off it's still quicker than before.
Mam always brags about Stella to the other Sins, especially Ozzie. Even her smallest achievement is something Mammon cherishes as much as possible.
Speaking of Ozzie, the first time he talked to Mammon after he started dating Stella, he made a crack at Mammon going blind to a gold-digger over her own "assets". Before he could properly register it, Mam had him pinned to the floor with a hand tightening around his neck, Ozz immediately took his joke back. It was then that he realized that the seemingly impossible happened, Mammon was in a loving relationship.
Expanding on the concept of Stella sating her curiosity about "peasant" things, she tries to play a fighting game with Via and struggles. Via tells her not to worry about it, but the lose activates Stella's competitive nature and she starts practicing in her free time (Something Mammon makes sure she has plenty of) . She absolutely demolishes both Mam and Via at the next family game night. And that was how Octavia learned how quick of a learner her mother is.
This one was originally an ask for @pinkandpurple360 but it seemingly went the way of HB's original premise: While he got to see Charlie grow up and now has a daughter in Octavia, Mammon wishes deep down that he could raise a child of his own blood. It's not that he doesn't love Charlie and Via, he just can't help but feel he's missing something he wants. He considers asking Stella about having another kid, but knows that she was forced to have Via. This makes him confront the dilemma of pursuing his wish or not reawakening the trauma of the woman he loves. This idea definitely deserves more exploration, maybe in a fic.
After Stella and Mammon get hitched, people returning their Robofizz becomes a far rarer phenomenon, mostly because word gets out that Via personally "deactivates" any returned or recalled Fizzbots, who start going above and beyond to please their owners to avoid the princess' coulrophobia-fueled fury.

Following the wonderful character analysis of Mammon by @pinkandpurple360, the best one I have read in years, I’d like to elaborate on the topic of Mammon’s loneliness even further.
Mammon is indisputably lonely and does show behaviour that signals his inner suffering from his state; his whole worldview being the root cause of his misery. He is in the permanent state of "having", a concept explained wonderfully in a book by Erich Fromm.
The mode of having sees everything as a possession. “Having” things emphasises a duality between “the owner” and “the thing”. The latter one being distinct from and relating to the “owner” only in the sense that one have a formal right of ownership over “the item”. Possession is oriented entirely towards the outside world and does not touch a person in who or what one inwardly is. Therefore, Mammon’s relationship with the world is inherently superficial. He is alienated from everything around him and does not know how to relate to it on a much deeper, meaningful level.
Nobody can actually own love or friendship. These concepts are not things that one can simply possess. Mammon’s relationship with the outside world, however, is rooted in a constant drive to own the most basic, the materialistic side of it. He knows how to gain one’s fondness and attention, but does not know how to be likeable and has zero idea how to nurture a much more intimate connection with anyone or anything. He does feel a hole in his soul yet cannot fill it due to being the way he is, investing his energy into the simplified ersatz of what he craves. Internally, he suffers from a constant chase for having something he wants to own but cannot factually possess.
My statements are pretty much supported by the fact that Mammon’s groupies / servants he had at his web lounge were Robot Fizzies. The original storyboard shows two imps (a female and a male one) waiting for him there and it was changed deliberately in the latter production. Mammon surrounds himself with artificial objects because it’s much easier for him to deal with ones since they lack anything spiritual in them. He is notably “touchy” because this is the only way of connection he understands: by grabbing, feeling the material presence of someone, because he is not used to feeling and relating to his surrounding at a nonmaterialistic level.
Therefore, the biggest misfortune of being greedy is not the tendency to exploitation and excess but the alienation from the deeper levels of life it brings with itself. Illustrated perfectly by the Embodiment of Greed himself. A person extremely extroverted and giddy yet incapable of empathize with his surroundings despite suffering from very much understandable inner drives.
The more I think about this character, the more I love him and genuinely want him to become happier. :)

Okay, so apparently I JUST found out that triple parentheses have something to do with antisemitism....
Tumblr media
What the actual FUCK.
So yeah, I had NO IDEA, and I'll immediately stop using them from now on.
Thanks to @pinkandpurple360 for the warning, because I would've never imagined the triple parentheses are used for antisemitism, not even in my wildest dreams.
So yeah, no more of that from now on.

CW/TW: implied emetophobia
Apology Tour was certainly an episode…!
I didn’t like it at all. It’s a huge Stolas pity party the whole way through.
So I decided to write a little smth smth! (Ft my oc Raya Lawrence <3)
This was inspired by a villain Stolas post by @pinkandpurple360 !)
.
.
.
.
“Here. Have some cake…” Verosika shoved Blitz a pity plate of cake. It looked like a heart bleeding black jelly “blood”. She stood up from watching over the party and walked away, intending to walk back downstairs for another song.
The succubus stopped at the first step down, suddenly feeling her head reel. She made eye contact with the Goetia owl Stolas. His eyes, which looked like a total solar eclipse, bore into hers menacingly. He gave her a look, as if to tell her, “good girl”. Verosika suppressed a nauseous gag and gave a painful smile. As soon as Stolas went back to toying with that demon, she sprinted into the bathroom across the hallway.
“Wait… shxt!” Raya squirmed as she set down her 3rd shot glass. “What happened?” A partygoer asked the demonologist. “Forgot my phone in the bathroom. Be right back…” The blonde ruffled her skirt and speed-walked up the stairs.
“UGH…! Shxt… just for how much longer…” Verosika coughed, her head shaking and offering above the sink. Raya silently squeaked open the door, and her eyes widened in horror…
The sight of wet, pitch-black feathers trailing from the succubus’ mouth was haunting. But nothing could compare to the shrill sounds of tiny giggles and compliments for the owl prince coming from said feathers.
