I’m not dead! Just really busy is all, I was finally able to complete this for now. To be honest it looks like it’s still unfinished, like it’s missing something. I may go back and attempt to add a filter in the sky (it’s just way too blue), but for now I’m going to leave it as it is. Again this is part of the ASOIAF x Harry Potter crossover universe that I’m working on. I think I may make a separate post that focuses only on the outfits, but for now I’m just going to leave it as it is.

Quick Summary: this focuses on my ASOIAF x Harry Potter crossover self indulgent head cannon. In my head cannon the Peverells happen to descend from Old Valyria, they happened to be a very high ranking family, even above the Targaryens in this case since they were still capable of using magic to its full extent and were not as limited compared to the others that practiced it. Of course the Peverells have their qualities that make them unique especially with the Necromancy aspect. Some events that occur in cannon Harry Potter also end up occurring in this AU, with the Peverells eventually marrying into different houses although their descendants are still held in high regard. The marriage and absorption into House Slytherin (which eventually falls into Gaunt) and House Potter still happens.

In this AU I like to think Harriel (Fem Harry) is closely related to the Targaryens, maybe Fleamont and Charlus mother or grandmother can be a younger Targaryen daughter who was married off into the Potter family. James and Lilly still end up dying, but I like to think the Targaryens were able to plead a case into why it should be them who should foster baby orphan Harriel (plus they get to raise a descendent of one of the most ancient powerful bloodlines that’s descend from Old Valyria). They end up winning their case and go on to raise baby Harrie.

As for Tom/Voldemort, the Gaunts still have some prestige to their name, but still end up in the poor state that they’re in just like in Harry Potter. Ominous is still alive, but he has distanced himself from the main family, he has also been able to build up his own fortune making himself very wealthy, unlike his other relatives. Marvolo and Morfín die, so that’s them out of the way. Before they die Merope was betrothed, but she ends up running off with Tom Riddle Sr. in this case. When Marvolo finds out he’s livid. Merope and Tom elope and do end up getting married, but it doesn’t pan out well. Tom Riddle is still conceived, but in the eyes of his grandfather and uncle he is nothing but a bastard. They plan on handing him over to the Fate or maybe Valyria’s version of it (still haven’t thought that out yet), but of course Marvolo and Morfín end up dying. Merope still dies in childbirth, so Ominous is the oldest remaining Gaunt besides baby Tom. Ominous is informed of this and goes on to meet baby Tom. Ominous meets newborn baby Tom, and Ominous comes to the conclusion that Tom Sr is incompetent to raise baby Tom. He’s able to persuade the Riddles into handing over Tom to him as he plans to raise Tom as his ward until he comes of age, once Tom is of age he will become the new head/lord of House Gaunt. They agree and Ominous does his best into raising Tom.

Tom is still his cannon age when he meets Harriel, but of course wizards/witches age slowly and live longer, plus I like to think that Tom is maintaining a spell that lets him age slower (he still supposed to look middle aged though). The Gaunts and Potters have a rivalry that has been going on for a very long time, reason into why the two look the way they do in the images/drawings. I would like to go more into depth about this AU, but this post has gotten long, so for now this is all the lore dump info behind my Crossover AU.

House Potter has always been seen as a smaller house, despite being one of the oldest within the Supremes, this is due to the house's policy of neutrality and the fact that it has always had few members. Experts in potions, they are known for their diverse creations, ranging from cures for illnesses to potions designed to make everyday life easier. Family members also have great coverage with human transfiguration. They were cursed by a forest witch so that men would only fall in love with redheads, after one of them said she had ugly hair (she was a redhead). I just finished going through Tales of Beedle the Bard and I have a few notes

First: There's a weird timeline discrepancy with the Tale of the Three Brothers as a whole and it bothers me

In Dumbledore's notes, he traces the first historical reference of the Elder Wand to Emeric the Evil:

The first well-documented mention of a wand made of elder that had particularly strong and dangerous powers was owned by Emeric, commonly called “the Evil”, a short-lived but exceptionally aggressive wizard who terrorised the South of England in the early Middle Ages

Now the period referred to as the "early Middle Ages" is between the 5th and 10th centuries. Way before Beedle wrote down the story (15th century).

We also know (thanks to irl history) that the name Peverell is one that arrived with the Normans to England, meaning the story of the three brothers could only have taken place after the Norman conquest in 1066, which usually isn't referred to as "early Middle Ages" and it's kind of odd to do so. So, someone has to be wrong here because Emeric couldn't have had the Elder Wand before it was made.

It's possible Dumbledore is referring to the 11th century as "early Middle Ages", which would make the timeline make more sense if we assume Emeric is the wizard mentioned to slit the oldest brother's throat to steal his wand in the story (possible, but doesn't sound like Dumbledore, so I consider this unlikely). It's also possible Emeric didn't have the Elder Wand at all, but a different powerful wand (also unlikely). Or that the Peverell brothers weren't the brothers in the story (even less likely). Or that the Peverell brothers arrived in South England before the conquest (possible, maybe, not super likely either).

I don't really have an answer for this discrepancy so I'd be happy if someone has an idea how this could make sense... (looking for a Watsonian explanation, not a Doylist one)

Second: Why are we all saying the Gaunts are descendants of Cadmus Peverell?

I mean, Marvolo says this:

but then realized that he was showing Ogden the ugly, black-stoned ring he was wearing on his middle finger, waving it before Ogden’s eyes. “See this? See this? Know what it is? Know where it came from? Centuries it’s been in our family, that’s how far back we go, and pure-blood all the way! Know how much I’ve been offered for this, with the Peverell coat of arms engraved on the stone?”

(HBP, Ch10)

From this we know two things:

The Deathly Hallows symbol was known as the Peverell Coat of Arms at one point in time, at least among UK purebloods. Which, makes sense with the same symbol being carved on Ignotus' grave.

The ring was in the Gaunt family for centuries, but that's hardly a clear timeline, neither does it indicate dependency, even though, it's what Marvolo is implying.

Now, why do I doubt the Gaunts are actually related to the Peverells? Well, I'm not. They might be distantly related since all purebloods are, but I think they might not be the descendants of the second brother. Why is that?

Simple, it's implied he died without children.

The tale of the three brothers literally says he asked for the stone to summon the girl he wished to marry who died before they married:

To his amazement and his delight, the figure of the girl he had once hoped to marry before her untimely death appeared at once before him.

(Tales of Beedle the Bard, the Tale of the Three Brothers)

Unless he fathered some child outside of marriage before (which I don't think is the case), then Cadmus died before he had any kids.

Now, the tale as we see it has some inaccuracies (such as Death being a character) for the sake of embellishment or due to time. After all, Beedle wrote the tale down in the 15th century and the story of the Peverells happened in the 1070s-ish or earlier. By the time Beedle wrote down the story it's been long enough that the story could've gotten corrupted. Also, Beedle seems to take some creative liberties in his stories even if there is likely some truth to all of them (like in Babbity Rabbity). But I feel like the creative liberties had more to do with Death giving them the items and less to do with the fate of each brother, considering he was correct about the cloak and how it passed from father to son and the violent transfer of the Elder Wand. Like, why would he be wrong just about the second brother?

I mean, all we know is that the Gaunts had the stone for a few centuries and were clearly unaware of its actual power and purpose and we have the implication from the tale that Cadmus had no children. So, why are we assuming Marvolo is correct about being a descendant of the Peverells from a millennia ago?

It's possible a Gaunt received the ring from Cadmus, or that they are descendants of an unnamed Peverell sister, but I don't think they really do descend from Cadmus himself. Like, the tale mentions him killing himself to be with the girl he wanted to marry, idk, to me, this implies he didn't have kids, so I feel this assumption (which was confirmed by JKR) is kinda weird.

Anyone else was bothered by this or is it just me overthinking things?

What if the Peverell’s originated from Ancient Egypt?

We already know they were close to Death in a way, with the Deathly Hallows and all, but what if that wasn’t all of it?

The Egyptians worked closely with death, it was sacred and they had extremely detailed spells and rituals to help souls pass on. It would make sense if a family so deeply involved with death had some Ancient Egyptian roots.

I have no other reason but that, I just wanted to mention it.

so... what have they been up to since i last talked about them? WELL. for starters, they've graduated!!

and cadmus peverell has died. mysteriously. i'm sure nothing bad or suspicious happened there. nope nope nope. nothing at all.

so, as the eldest, and only (legitimate) peverell son, jack now has everything. the huge house, the obscene wealth his father amassed, and all that stuff. he and his mother have no use for the mansion, as now there's only the two of them, so they move into the much, MUCH smaller servant's house that's been unused for years, and he uses the mansion to care for creatures.

jamie moves in with him part-time. he was signed on as seeker for puddlemere united right after graduation, so he does spend loads of time away training, but when he can, he helps care for the creatures!!

eventually, cassian moves in for a bit, but then he goes back to sweden with ziven and elias to do... whatever it is that gang does. there's probably something a little gay there idk.

jack's mother comes out as a lesbian, bc she gives me gay vibes. free my girl she was forced into a marriage with an abuser. at least he's dead now...and now she has a gf. wow jack has 2 stable parental figures at once?? who would have thought.

jamie becomes very well-known as a pro quidditch player. how could he not, tho? he takes it very seriously and is VERY good at it. tbh he probably plays until he physically can't anymore.

then they get married and adopt several children and live happily ever after the end.

they have a yearly family tradition of one of them taking a piss on cadmus' grave- well deserved.
