Bound: The Superfluous Man by peu_a_peu

Okay, whoops, I forgot to take good pictures before I sent it off to the author.

I wanted to bind this, but it's fairly short, but I also wanted to test out the double fan method of making a paperback, so that's what I decided to do. I used @maleekamolscreates's tutorial and it worked great!

I did end up making three copies of this bind - the first I cut too much, the second I printed the cover in black and white, and the third was the one pictured. (Plus I'd put a border around the text on the back, and it kept getting cut off a bit, or it make it obvious that my cut wasn't perfectly straight.)

Oh. The cover. THE COVER. Of course I had to make it look like Potioneer's Guide to Conception and Gestation, Vol 2. Of course.

It was super fun to make. I printed the cover on my inkjet printer, then ran it through the laser printer just to add the title so I could use toner foil on it.

The art inside is by @the-forbidden-forest. SO GOOD.

(And yes, I did make a podfic of this. Naturally.)

In fact it’s possible to build a life that doesn’t even revolve around him. Probably not for you two, but I’m sure being an adult sidekick has its rewards.” “Merlin, listen to him,” Weasley said, not to Draco but to Granger. “Did we step through a Floo or a Time-Turner?” “As if, Ron, look at him,” said Granger, who was not exactly a nubile eighteen-year-old herself, thanks. “Can we please go? If Lucius and Narcissa come in here, I think I’ll scream.” “Right, off we go,” Weasley said. “Enough silliness, Malfoy, get your shoes on.” Some sloppy wandwork from Weasley dumped Draco’s bit loafers at his feet. “No, I won’t,” Draco said. Then, fearing they’d leave: “Where are we going?”

I added this to the author note of my podfic, but this is me trying to be eloquent about peu's writing while expressing why I love her fics so much.

Now that reveals have happened, I can express more fully my delight in this fic. It was only until I was about halfway through reading this for the first time that I started to think about the mystery author. And instantly, I knew who it was. Peu has such a distinct style, not only in writing, but in her characterization of Draco and Harry. The tenderness and biting humor and faux confidence all mix together to make an irresistible pairing.

Rookie Moves was written from Harry's POV and in this, you're treated to a story from Draco's POV. He manages to make me laugh and feel tender towards him, even as he acts like an ass, and if the end doesn't melt your cold dead heart, I don't even know what to tell you.

My first rounded spine!

I have made a few copies of this bind, but not one for myself yet, so I decided not only would I make one, but since it was only for me, I'd try spine rounding for the first time.

It went…fine. I can see how it might drive me insane in the future because it's hard to get even and then my fore edges ended up being too large because it's hard to measure the boards. Or something. Anyway, I'll probably do it again with a larger book, one of the big chonks of a 200k fic or something.

If I was smart I'd have foiled the spine BEFORE I rounded it but apparently I am not smart. So.

And then I went and spent $20 getting a dust jacket printed and now you can't really even tell. (But I bought a wide format printer so now I can print my own!)
