Wait, shit, if season 2 of The Sandman happens chronologically prior to the events of Dead Boy Detectives, then Edwin hasn’t met Despair yet, and the “friends” connection hasn’t been made, so what the fuck is he doing with the Endless?

Maybe he somehow encounters a different family member first?

He doesn’t know who/what Despair is at first glance, but he has a noticeable reaction to her saying, “The answers are Endless, Edwin Payne.”

That’s probably because she knows his name, but maybe he recognized the significance of the word “Endless” as well.

At very least, Edwin reacts to her describing the suffering and how beautiful she finds it. He starts to say something about her after her little monologue before she cuts him off to introduce herself.

But the point remains that if the events of season 2 of The Sandman takes place first, Edwin’s not friends with Despair yet. I really wonder how the fuck he’s connected to them prior to that.
