Tony Stark had always thrived in chaos, but this was different. This was a kind of entropy that clung to his bones, settled into his lungs, and refused to let go. Seventeen days and fifty-two hours—long enough for the world outside to twist into something unrecognizable. The weapons division was back, and so was the backlash. The media called him a war profiteer, a fallen hero, a traitor to his own ideals. The ring from a certain someone, that once held promises now lay forgotten in some drawer, and Serena’s voice still echoed in his mind, raw with anguish. Hunter was out there, bullet chambered, mark set.

It didn’t matter.

What mattered was here, now, in the icy stillness of his lab. He’d shut out the noise, ignored the ghosts that clawed at his conscience. Instead, he stared into the heart of something unknown.

A transparent, human-sized chamber stood at the center of the room, its neon-lined edges casting eerie reflections on the steel walls. Inside, a rippling void hovered—a bright streak, like lightning frozen in time, a tear between dimensions. The air buzzed with energy, a whisper of something just beyond reach. He had calibrated every parameter to the most precise degree, pushing past theoretical impossibilities.

This wasn’t about weapons, not really. It wasn’t about escape, either. It was about the spark. The one thing that had eluded him in everything else.

“Sir, I must remind you that exposure to the anomaly beyond its current containment field presents a high probability of destabilization.”

J.A.R.V.I.S.’s voice, crisp and composed, broke through the quiet hum of machinery. The AI had been monitoring the experiment with unwavering precision, cataloging every fluctuation, every surge of energy, every anomaly.

Tony exhaled sharply, rubbing a hand over his face. “Noted, J. But if I don’t push this further, I’ll never know what’s on the other side.”

“There is a fine line between discovery and destruction, sir.”

A wry smile ghosted across Tony’s lips. “Yeah, well. I’ve never been much for fine lines.”

J.A.R.V.I.S. hesitated, as if calculating the odds of Tony actually listening to reason.

“Would you like me to prepare emergency protocols in case of—”

“No.” Tony cut him off. “We’re not failing today.”

He adjusted the temperature again, a frigid cold settling into the room. His breath ghosted in front of him, cheeks pinkening from the artificial winter. He didn’t move. He barely blinked. He only stared, waiting, hoping, needing something to break through the weight of failure that had consumed him for far too long.

And then—it happened.

The spark.

Small, fleeting, yet infinite in its implications. A shimmer that pulsed through the tear in space, dancing along the edges of the anomaly, illuminating the abyss with an unearthly glow. Maybe it was just a reaction. Maybe it was nothing at all. But for the first time in days, something worked.

His fingers twitched, as if reaching for it, for the proof that something still remained. Something untouched by betrayal, by war, by loss. Maybe it was just physics. Maybe it was just a trick of the mind.

Or maybe—just maybe—it was the proof that between every rupture, every break, every tear, there was a space where something new could exist.

And so he stared, unblinking, as the dimensions split just long enough to let the spark linger.

Because maybe—just maybe—there was still something left to salvage.

The air around him hummed as the neon streak pulsed once more, sending out thin tendrils of energy that wove through the air like living things. He exhaled slowly, eyes narrowing as he adjusted the stabilization settings on the console beside him. If he could just hold the split open long enough, he might be able to measure the properties of whatever existed within. Maybe even step inside.

The thought was reckless, but he had always lived on the edge of recklessness and genius. There was no denying the pull he felt—no denying the possibility that on the other side of that tear, something awaited. Something better. Something more.

But there were risks.

The algorithms were still incomplete, the equations still not fully understood. The chamber’s integrity was holding, but for how long? And if he lost control, what would happen to the lab? To the world?

“J.A.R.V.I.S., run a full diagnostic on the containment field.”

“Processing,”

The AI responded smoothly.

“Energy stabilization at 84%. Containment holding, but fluctuations increasing by 0.7% per second.”

Tony frowned. That wasn’t great. He had minutes at best.

He should stop. He should shut it down and walk away.

But he couldn’t.

Because for all the ways he had failed, for all the people he had let down, for all the things that had slipped through his fingers—this, this, was still in his grasp.

He clenched his fists, jaw tightening as the cold seeped deeper into his skin. The glowing fissure flickered, almost as if it, too, were waiting.

He stepped closer, the hum growing louder. The streak of light stretched and curled, forming delicate arcs that shimmered against the steel walls. His pulse quickened. He reached out, fingers hovering just inches from the anomaly, the energy tingling at his skin.

“Sir, I must reiterate—”

“J, shut up.”

The lab was silent, save for the faint vibrations of the machinery. No voices. No outside distractions. Just him, standing at the precipice of discovery—or destruction.

He took another step forward, heart pounding in his chest. The anomaly pulsed, its radiance fluctuating like the heartbeat of something alive. If he crossed the threshold, if he reached into the unknown, would he find answers? Or only more questions?

The machine hummed one last time before he exhaled and stepped back. He reached for the console, fingers hesitating over the shutdown sequence.

Then, with a final glance at the spark still flickering within the anomaly, he pressed the button.

The energy curled inward, collapsing in on itself until all that remained was the cold and the silence.

J.A.R.V.I.S. spoke first.

“Experiment concluded. Data has been logged.”

Tony turned away from the empty space, running a hand down his face.

Seventeen days and fifty-two hours. That’s how long he had been waiting for something to go right.

The weight in his chest shifted, just a little.

Maybe there was still time to make something of it.

I just finished chapter 11 and it has left me in shambles !!!!!! When I got to “you’re not my dad” I had to take a little break so I wouldn’t literally explode (An impossible task really) JASON SCARED FOR PETER IN THE JOKER ZONE RAHHHH !!!!!! When I got to the end I had to shut my laptop and contemplate life for 10 minutes so I wouldn’t cry in class (An even more impossible task really)

Last month, the group named “Team Red” was born due to Spider-Man’s fall out with the Avengers. Though recently, the internet and the city of New York haven’t been so pleased with the group’s attempts to be heroic role models. Peter, even with all his grading he must do for his college students, has been more than confused on how this problem had an uprising. Matt, who is trying to figure out who this new "Team Green" is, hasn’t been so pleased from the backlash they have got from the X-Men due to a certain member of the team. While Wade has made an ask blog Tumblr account to fix all his problems.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I remember there being a Spider-Man and now the closest I can find is some barely-functioning Tarantula fan site and an old article about some Fawcett inventor. Do you know what happened to them? Was there a cover-up? Is this like all those times Tawky Tawny disappears and we all pretend he never existed?

Sir/Madam/Miscellaneous... I don't know how to deliver you this information but...Spider-Man is a fictional character.

He was invented by comic creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the early 1960s and has ever since become a phenomenon in global pop culture. Becoming most likely the most famous, popular and beloved fictional superhero in the world. One of the main gems in Marvel's crown as undisputed #1 comic company in the world, and probably the most powerful media brand globally ever since the runaway success of their Marvel Cinematic Universe starting in 2008. He is not, nor is he based on, a real living, breathing superhero. At least not directly. Endless think pieces and theories have circulated since the character's first appearance that he might have been based very broadly on the real life mystery man Jonathan Law AKA Tarantula, a personal hero of mine because of his documentation of his comrades during his service with the All Star Squadron and his authorship of the first true book of superhero history. Lee and Ditko always broadly downplayed or denied any connection. While Lee was a working adult in WWII he only served in the Signal Corps writing copy for training manuals and other army material and Ditko graduated high school in 1945 and only ever served in Allied Occupied Germany. To my knowledge neither man ever had a run in with any mystery man during the war proper and Tarantula specifically retired very soon after the war.

That being said, that isn't to say that Spider-Man isn't a real person somewhere, in some place at some time. We live in a multiverse after all, where not only *a* universe exists to fit any criteria but ENDLESS universes exist with endless variation on any singular idea. By definition Spider-Man is as real as Superman in an uncountable number of worlds across an infinite expanse of hypertime. It's even more likely than not that at some point the heroes of our world interacted with a version of Spider-Man from some other dimension but if so the event itself is very poorly recorded and not readily backed up public knowledge. I am enjoying the new cartoon though.

It was a normal day in New York, across the rooftops fought two figures. A massive metal robot fighting a masked hero... New York's heart, the friendly neighborhood's Spider-Man.

"Geez, new Spider-Slayer? Again?" Spider-Man flips over the bot, mostly trying to keep the Spider-Slayer out of the way of civilians. "Smythe, you gotta at least stop using Jameson's face, he doesn't need any help messing up his image!" Just then, his spider-sense went off, followed by him being punched in the back of the head. This wasn't the most unusual thing for Peter to deal with, but... these bots have never been THIS fast.

The slayer tackled Spider-Man, causing him to crash onto the ground. As he looked up, he saw on the shoulder of the bot a symbol of some kind of green "L" shape? He had seen it somewhere before, but wher- Oh wait,right, fight!

This Spider-Slayer was definitely built different than the others. Stronger, faster. And he was at a stand-still. What could he do? When suddenly, in the distance Peter could see what appeared to be... a large bird? Either that or a very very small plane. And, in only a moment, the figure flew through the robot, smashing it into pieces with the impact.

The figure stopped and hovered in the air, and Peter could get a real look at it... or rather him!

"Hello there, you must be-" "SUPERMAN!" "Uh-" "No- No, I'm sorry, I mean... YOU'RE Superman! I'm Spider-Man... I'm so sorry, it's just, you've always been a massive inspiration for me." "Why thanks, and may I just say, I very much admire your work. I've seen what the Daily Bugle writes on you, but I've heard and seen you in action. Always trying to help people before yourself and trying to bring hope." "That means so much- But hold on, what are you doing here in New York?" "It's only a 10 minute train ride. Besides, I fear an enemy of mine, Lex Luthor, has been doing some shady business here now that he has a building set up." "LEXCORP! That's where I knew it from! The Spider-Slayer, that bot you just beat, had a Lexcorp symbol right on it's clavicle." "I see... if Luthor is getting involved, then he's most likely done more than just make a robot. We need to search him out." "We?" "Well of course, you're not that much of a loner are you" "No, I'm not like that urban legend from Gotham." "Haha! Okay, then away we go!" The spider swings away, while Superman flies beside him.

You know what's funny to me? There are Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider fans who use variant art comic book covers of Miles and Gwen to taunt fans who don't like Ghostflower. They genuinely believe that those variant comic covers show that Marvel prefers Miles and Gwen together over Miles with anyone else. But they don't seem to realize that most if not all of the Ghostflower cover variants are RETAILER EXCLUSIVES made and paid for/commissioned usually by Unknown Comics, 616 Comics or Big Time Collectibles, they are NOT FORMAL comic cover variants put out by Marvel, which is why they appear no where in Marvel's marketing.

Unknown Comics, 616 Comics, Big Time Collectibles and others create and pay for their own comic cover variants with different art from popular artists. Unknown Comics, 616 Comics, Big Time Collectibles do not have have the highest reputations. They commission art based on fads as cash grabs to take advantage of people who think the covers are official or valuable, and to meet niche interests of their customer bases. Gwen Stacy as both regular Gwen Stacy and Spider-Gwen Stacy is a character that some fans regularly sexualize along with Felicia/Black Cat and MJ. Big Time Collectibles has a whole mature covers section, and Unknown has done borderline fetish content and will often do two different versions of the same cover with Gwen for both Miles and Peter content, earlier this year they even did a variant cover that had Gwen wearing Peter's suit and one where she wore Miles's suit. Neither were formal Marvel covers. Sometimes there will be an official variant cover from Marvel of Miles doing something and one of the stores will pay the same artist from the official Marvel variant to make a complimentary cover that has Gwen in the same art style or area. These stores will also commission different modern takes on well known popular official Marvel covers.

When Marvel has done official variant covers with Miles and Gwen, they have usually been done based around promotion of spiderverse. One exception was when a couple months ago they had them in disco gear together to promote both the upcoming Dazzler (a musician) comic and raise awareness for Gwen who had a new comic released.

What is extra special crazy though and what has led to this post is Ghostflower fanatics will use select retailer exclusives, aka overpriced commissioned fan art, to justify being absolute weirdos over Miles's canon girlfriends, especially Starling, who they're super duper pressed over because she is the definite love interest for comic Miles (side note - Spider-Gwen Stacy fans really seem to hate Black women and Black women characters and have said some absolutely wild things about both, which makes sense given the racist reaction to Miles. If Miles had to deal with racism as a character of course there will be people who are not going to want to see Black woman characters flourish and this is a main reason why I can't stand online Spider-Gwen fans or the Ghostflower ship, the racism from them is gross. It might seem like they aren't racist because they "like" Miles but they only see Miles as a means to an end for Spider-Gwen to get clout, that's it. They treat Miles like he's a secondary character in his story, hate characters like Spiderbyte and celebrate any ship Miles is in that doesn't involve Black women. They make any excuse for their hatred of Black women characters, claiming that it's because a character isn't "well written or developed", but then will love actually poorly written potential nonblack love interests).

Ghostflower shippers have convinced themselves that RETAILER EXCLUSIVES are evidence that Marvel considers Starling as just a placeholder until BTSV releases, and then Gwen will take her place in the comics as Miles's official love interest and Starling will be killed off or kicked out. They brag that Marvel knows that the real money lies with Ghostflower and that's why Marvel keeps making Ghostflower variants, but this is dumb as hell because again, most of the Ghostflower variants are not even official variants released by Marvel. They blatantly ignore that Starling has been on a bunch of official Marvel covers for Miles's comics as well as official Marvel comic variant covers, which is better than being on a bunch of borderline and outright fan fetish content for informal retailer exclusives. And they definitely ignore that Gwen has not appeared in or been talked about in Miles's comics before OR AFTER 2016, which is when Sitting in a Tree happened, yet Spider-Gwen Stacy fans act as if she's his main love interest. And this level of delulu is reason #2 why I am not a fan of Ghostflower and most Ghostflower people.

I’ve definitely seen some of the comic covers you mentioned here, mainly via pinterest, and it definitely confused me.

Granted, I haven’t been in a whole lot of other fandoms, but I can’t recall a time I ever heard about a ship specifically having this horrid and this racist of a fan base, it’s insane! Especially when as I’ve talked about before, spider-verse Gwen and Miles aren’t even narratively properly set up for a romance! Slow burn where?? And even if they were, they’re just such a bland pairing to me, like I’m sorry 😭 I am so sick of seeing punk girls paired with average casual kinda guys, especially when Chris Miller and Phil Lord have BEEN DOING THIS in their projects! ie, Lego Movie and Clone High. Hell, Clone High is literally a parody of teen drama and love stories, and Joan and Abe literally do it better than Gwen and Miles! In my opinion. They put a chick in it and make her lame and gay :/
