Day 21: Micheal Dobson
This version is nothing special. Running from 2012 to 2016, it is interesting how they portray Neverland and its mechanics.
More in Keep Reading.
The description on the wiki says…
The New Adventures of Peter Pan (2012–2016) is a series of CGI animation French-German-Indian produced by the DQ Entertainment and Method Animation.
This version of Captain Hook seems off. I mean he has his facial hair, his proper hairstyle, and the right-handed hook but the eye color is not correct.
There are a couple episodes I like (like Hook losing his memory for a bit) but other than that, nothing special here.
Here's the link to the episode…
youtube
But I don't even know how much of the full series is on Youtube. And the only other is Prime Video. So not a full recommendation for people to watch. (Anyways, Hook is a minor character.)

In terms of trying to transplant how Dick’s generation grew up to independent adult heroes onto Tim’s generation, one of the significant issues is that the two groups have very different backstories.
The Fab Five and their generation were largely cared for children with present guardians during their teen years. Their ‘growing up’ rebellion moments were about wanting to establish their own identities separate to their parent/guardian. Then once NTT occurred and new young adult characters were added to it, you had a bunch who were escaping overbearing guardians with expectations the young adult didn’t want to fulfil, and leaving trauma behind.
The Core Four and other 90s heroes, in contrast, were mostly latchkey kids. They had loving but absent parents and parental figures. They were largely expected to grow up and show they were independent in their early teens. The arcs of their stories were not about growing up and finding themselves and ‘be your own person’, but about learning to trust others and interdependency and working together.
Like the shape of a Fab Five story is ‘in my preteens or earlier a Disaster Happened and I was taken in by a hero who cared for me and taught me the business as their sidekick. Then around 18-20 I moved out to live in a sharehouse with my friends as I wanted to find who I was outside of the shadow of being a sidekick’.
While…Tim’s generation largely aren’t sidekicks in the same sense. The shape of THEIR stories are of ‘teenager with largely absent adults is expected to grow up and show emotional maturity too early’. It’s actually notable that Tim, Kon and Bart all have long term story arcs that involve gaining a stable household right near the end.
Kon’s entire solo is the story of how he is neglected and exploited by every adult around him. He doesn’t have parents. He’s Peter Pan, the little boy who cannot grow up, who lives without parental expectation. He’s a celebrity kid exploited by Rex Leech and by CADMUS, who’s expected by those around him to act in an adult manner and held to that standard while simultaneously specifically being underage and not having the right to make his own decisions. His final arc in Superboy is about being so abandoned he doesn’t even have CADMUS to depend on anymore so he has to find an apartment and a job (the building superintendent) and is expected to act and function like an adult in that position. Superboy #59 (FIFTY NINE) is when Kon finally gets his own name. Superboy #100 is ABOUT Kon moving in with Jonathan and Martha Kent and finally having a stable home environment where he can be a child. Heck Kon’s already had a story where he’s ‘married’ and responsible for a kid. He’s had solo space adventures.
Bart’s solo is about Bart and Max learning to be a family together, but also: Bart’s childhood didn’t contain parents. Meloni turns up occasionally through his solo and loves him but also has to disappear away back to the 30th century at the end of each appearance. The final arc of Bart’s solo is about him moving in with Jay and Joan Garrick for more stability, because Max has disappeared (and stays disappeared). And then, post his solo, Bart even already has HAD an arc where he had to grow up and assume the Flash mantle (which went horribly wrong and led to his death).
Tim? Tim’s entire solo is about upheaval and change. The first time he’s expected to behave as an independent hero, not a sidekick, is literally Robin #1 when Azbats kicks him out of the Cave. Jack threatens to send him away to boarding school on multiple occasions and DOES for the Brentwood arc. He loses Jack, he loses Dana, he moves out to be a hero caring for his own city at 16, in Bludhaven post War Games. Bruce’s adoption of Tim was all about giving him back that sense of stability and support so that Tim had people backing him up again in his personal life and not only as a hero. And then he does the ‘leave and get a new identity’ thing during Red Robin.
And Cassie? Cassie starts with a loving mother and her story arc over becoming a hero is about periods of operating on her own. She moves away from her mum to go to Elias School. Due to operating as a hero under her own name she eventually has to come up with the alias of Drusilla Priam to give herself a non-public identity to retreat to (and isn’t living with Helena Sandsmark but renting on her own during this period to protect Helena).
This is a set of characters for whom it makes no narrative sense to tell a story of them growing up by ‘moving out and finding their own identity as separate heroes’ because their entire PAST is about being alone and looking for connections and people to rely upon. They haven’t been looking for their mentors to accept them as independent adults, they’ve been looking to their mentors to be present and work with them.
They have already all BEEN through the steps of moving out (while underage) and learning to look after themselves as nobody else was there to support them. Growing up for them is about learning to trust and be respected for the skills they already have and trusted to know what they’re doing, rather than leaving to show they can operate independently.
And that’s a harder narrative to show, because it’s a less common growth story in our culture. But in the Core Four’s case, I’d argue a lot of the traditional signifiers of adulthood (moving out; moving away for education; taking responsibility for a city on their own; travelling for quests) are things they were already expected to do while still significantly underage, and so sending them through that plot again isn’t showing anything new to allow them growth. What they need is the adults around them to treat them as adults for the things they already can and do do.

That Time I was on Adventuring Academy
Ok it's a clickbaity title but I've been thinking a lot about where I was in this moment, and who I am now, and what an ENORMOUS difference there is, a verifiably ocean between moments.
We can get the obvious differences out of the way like:
my name
my gender
my camera situation
all of which have improved drastically I must say.
When I was asked to do this I had published my first game supplement ever, Neverland: The Impossible Island. And I LOVE it still. For what it is, it was a killer first project. A fully playable D&D setting for JM Barrie's Peter Pan setting, Neverland. Concept and execution, I did a pretty decent job.
Gang, I was SHITTING myself during this entire interview. And I don't really even mean just because Brennan was someone influential to me, someone I didn't know at all at this point, but I was new to interviews and being on a public platform too. I was even still new as a performer, which I would confidently say is my strong suit now. I was being held together by adrenaline. Now, it's kind of hard for me to watch myself stumble through that. I've come like...an exceptionally long way since then.
And I have more to say now than I did then. Brennan introduces me so kindly as a game designer but truthfully I wasn't yet! I had written a module for D&D, and that's all. Fine, and fun, and I did a good job - but I've learned so much and experienced so much and I have so much knowledge and love and feral, unabashed passion for games now that I wish I could tell this past version of me about. I get to share that now, every single week, on One Shot - introducing people to new games and beautiful artists.
What I care about in this industry has also grown and shifted. Back then I was still fighting my way through the horde of misogynists to create space as a seemingly feminine person in the hobby by getting my mits all over their favorite franchise (D&D).
Now, I want us free from corporate fast food games, I want people to see the magnificent iceberg of art and exploration and humanity that games have that we can experience. I want designers who are paid to create their own art, not serving a corporation's image for pennies. I want to radicalize this hobby against the colonialism and transphobia and imperialism that snuck into all it's roots.
Anyway I'm SO proud of who I've become and where this moment has led me and for how far away it seems. I've lived and I have grown and I've become someone I'm even more proud of.
((oh and one final aside - this was one of the most professional experiences I ever had, from not just Brennan but everyone who set things up behind the scenes. That also taught me a lot about what was acceptable and what was not, going into future, often less good, interviews. ))

My Ideal Revival of the Disney Heroes Franchise
What you’re looking at is the official logo for a now defunct franchise known as Disney Heroes.
Disney Heroes was basically meant to serve as the sister…..or more appropriately, the brother franchise of the Disney Princesses, with the focus being placed on the male heroes of the Disney pantheon.
The franchise initially started back in 1999, but under the name of Disney Adventurers. Not only that, but the line-up was rather small, consisting of the titular protagonists of Hercules, Aladdin, Peter Pan, and their most recent film at the time, Tarzan.
The franchise mainly existed through toys, with some notable merchandising besides that here and there.
The franchise remained this way until about 2003, when it got a notable revamp.
The franchise would get its current name and it would expand the roster quite a bit. The new members included Merlin and Arthur from The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty, and Li Shang from Mulan.
I also think Simba from The Lion King was a part of the roster as well, I think I remember seeing him on a backpack done for the franchise.
But in 2005, the Disney Heroes franchise had a another revamp…this one notably different from the previous ones.
Although the franchise mainly existed through toys and play-sets that more or less stayed faithful to their respective films, these however…..
Your eyes are not deceiving you….these were actual action figures created and designed by Disney for the Disney Heroes franchise…..and I couldn’t be anymore happier.
Hercules looks like an ancient Greek warrior with the golden armor, plus he’s carrying a big xiphos and a golden shield with the face of a lion.
Peter Pan is now sporting some tan gloves, boots, and ever a mask, carrying a bow and quiver of arrows alongside his trusty dagger.
And Captain Hook has a more swashbuckling look, and his rapier has been replaced with a big ass cutlass!
Prince Phillip and Maleficent were also apart of this line-up of action figures as well.
Phillip had a more knight-like appearance, even having a helmet with a golden falcon on top.
And Maleficent…well, she was in her dragon form.
Sadly, only five action figures were made in this style….
And it’s a shame, given that there were plans to revamp the franchise with a more action-oriented style.
These designs by Disney animator Ruben Procopio for planned future figures for the franchise really highlight this…
Aladdin was gonna look like an Arabian Knight, complete with a dagger and a huge ass scimitar that would make Cloud Strife impressed.
Tarzan was gonna go for a Conan the Barbarian-esque look, complete with a headband, a vest, a tooth necklace, boots, and even a quiver filled with spears, knives, and arrows.
And as you could see, they were even gonna introduce The Beast from Beauty and the Beast as a new member of a roster, with the appearance of a warrior prince and a mace as his weapon.
Unfortunately, these figures never came to be....
Although Disney Heroes franchise was doing decently fine, it was nowhere near the level of success of the Disney Princesses.
As a result of that, Disney slowly but surely phased out the franchise over the next three years.
By 2008, the Disney Heroes franchise silently ended, only merchandising through coloring books and their only new addition since 2003 being....of all characters....Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
So yeah....that's pretty much the story of the Disney Heroes franchise.
It's honestly a shame because I could totally see this franchise being pretty successful today.
And given the rise of nostalgia and crossovers in media over the last decade, I could see this being an absolute goldmine for all parties involved.
And today, I'm gonna share on how I think a revival of the Disney Heroes franchise should play out.
.It would aim more towards a older audience, mostly teenagers, similar to the Disney Villains franchise. It wouldn't really focus all that much on toys like the Disney Princesses, though there would be some figurines here and there, instead focusing on media that's more accessible with a older crowd like novels, comic books, video games, and even animation.
.Unlike it's previous iteration, and to that extension the Disney Princesses, it would be more gender-neutral, featuring male and female representatives of most of the represented films as members of the roster.
.Also unlike the Princesses, this franchise has its own backstory. Various Disney villains have joined forces in other to further their respective goals. In retaliation, a group of various Disney heroes, led by Merlin, have united to fight against the villainous alliance and protect their respective realms. I know it's a pretty simple premise, but I think it's the perfect that way.
.The franchise will have a major focus on action and adventure....which for a franchise like this, should be expected.
.Many of the characters will be receiving redesigns in the veins of the ones done for the franchise back in 2005, which give off a fantasy warrior, almost Dungeons n' Dragons vibe. While these wouldn't be to the extent as say, Disney Mirrorverse, they would clearly by different from the characters' usual attire and makes them come off as more like warriors ready for adventure and battle.
.The series will essentially expand on the worlds of the films and bring in elements from their original source materials, official continuations like the TV shows, and even the cultures they represent.
Okay, now that we got the major elements out of the way, I'm gonna briefly share who would be apart of the roster for this new franchise, and list them in chronological order of movie release.
.Alice
.Peter Pan
.Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip
.Merlin and Arthur
.Mowgli
.Robin Hood
.Ariel and Eric
.Belle and Beast
.Aladdin and Jasmine
.Simba
.Pocahontas and John Smith
.Quasimodo
.Hercules and Megara
.Fa Mulan and Li Shang
.Tarzan and Jane Porter
.Milo Thatch and Kida Nedakh
.Jim Hawkins
.Tiana and Naveen
.Rapunzel and Eugene Fitzherbert
.Merida
.Anna and Elsa
.Moana and Maui
Just imagine.....seeing this iconic heroes going on various adventures, from the hottest deserts to the deepest jungles. Fighting against mythical monsters, thieves, wild beasts, villainous knights, deadly invaders, mysterious spirits and swashbuckling pirates!
Anyway, that's all for now. I'm planning to go more in-depth on this idea, fleshing out the characters and their worlds.
If you have any ideas for this franchise, let me know.

i'm very much in my caryl feels right now. it's my safe bubble, and i feel very much protected in here. i'm also feeling very hopeful for the future. DISCLAIMER: i've already seen the whole season - the good, the bad, and the wonderful.
WARNING HEAVY FULL TBOC SPOILERS AHEAD-
the whole theme of the show since s1 is Daryl wanting to go home. at first, he doesn't care about anything else but going home. slowly, he starts to care about people, he develops a strong bond with Laurent, and a shockingly surprising romantic connection with Isa, but there's one thing that never changes - DARYL WANTS TO GO HOME. even when he accepts L&I have become his surrogate family, he still plans to take them home to the Commonwealth. his desire never wavers - DARYL WANTS TO GO HOME. he doesn't want to be like his grandpa, who fought someone else's war and ended ruining his family. DARYL WANTS TO GO HOME.
i know i'm going around in circles repeating myself, but what i want to mention is the song that ends the season, the same song that Laurent and Daryl sing together.
🎵You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, well you might find, you get what you need. 🎵
for Laurent, what he wants is a life with his aunt and his hero Daryl, but what he actually needs is a normal life as a normal kid. and that's exactly what he gets when his new daddy Ash flies him away to the CW.
so when it comes to Daryl, it's fairly obvious to me, what he truly wants is TO GO HOME, but he gets what he needs - CAROL. as they walk out of that tunnel into their new Spanish adventures TOGETHER. he's got everything he needs. that's it.
to find home is to find each other.
despite my dislike and side eye to some of the Daryl narrative/storyarc decisions, i can't help feeling, that like Carol, he is also dealing with his own trauma and abandonment issues. the Isa hallucination is about her telling Daryl he won't die there, he won't be like his grandpa/father as she turns into fireflies.
speaking of fireflies, i don't have to like Daryl's arc, but i think the story they are trying to tell here is Daryl is Peter Pan - he is lost in Neverland, and the longer he stays, the harder it is to remember everybody back home. Isa is his tinkerbell, so he says and she literally turns into fireflies ffs. Tinkerbell (Isa) is in love with him, but Peter loves Wendy (CAROL). Wendy who risked everything to get Peter back. sounds familiar? and there you have it.
and if you're still not convince Caryl is coming, then i suggest you wait for ep 4 when Carol and Daryl meet an older version of themselves, who not only see Caryl's love for each other (thinking Carol was Isa - holy mistaken identity trope!), but also comment on them bickering like an old married couple.
i apologize in advance for my aggressive/toxic Caryl positivity. CARYL ON!

Moonlit secrets
Summary: reader hides that she’s a werewolf from Peter but the truth is revealed when a full moon creeps closer

Masterlist
Warnings: painful transformation into werewolf?
-
Neverland was a place of endless adventure, a land where time stood still and boys never grew up. Peter Pan reveled in the chaos, the unpredictability of it all. But even he was taken aback when she arrived. She was different. Not like the Lost Boys or even the most formidable of his enemies. There was a wildness about her, a barely contained fury that simmered beneath the surface. Her eyes, a striking shade of yellow, seemed to glow in the dim light of the forest. Her movements were fluid, predatory, as if she was constantly on the hunt. Pan had watched her from afar at first, curious about this strange new arrival. She didn't fit the mold of the usual inhabitants of Neverland. She was no mere mortal, he could sense that much. She was something else entirely. And he was determined to find out what.
The first time they crossed paths, it was in the heart of the forest. Pan had approached her with his usual cocky grin, but it faltered when he saw the flash of sharp canines as she snarled at him, a low growl rumbling in her chest. “Who are you?" Pan asked, intrigued rather than intimidated. “Stay out of my way” she snapped, her voice rough and filled with barely restrained aggression. Pan’s grin returned, wider this time. "Feisty. I like that”. She glared at him, her yellow eyes narrowing. "I’m not here to be liked”. But despite her words, something about Pan intrigued her too. He was different from others she had encountered. There was an air of command about him, a dangerous charm that was almost impossible to resist. Almost.
As the days passed, Pan found himself increasingly drawn to her. She was a puzzle, one that he was determined to solve. But the closer he got, the more she pulled away. Her temper flared at the slightest provocation, and her sharp tongue left even Pan at a loss for words. It didn’t take long for Pan to realize that something was wrong. She was more irritable than usual, her movements less fluid, more pained. The day before the full moon, she was especially on edge, snapping at anyone who came near. She even avoided Pan, which was unusual given their growing connection. That night, Pan found her sitting alone by the edge of the forest, her body tense and rigid. He approached cautiously, not wanting to provoke her further. “What’s wrong with you?” he asked, his voice softer than usual. “Nothing” she muttered, not meeting his gaze. Pan crouched down beside her, reaching out to touch her arm, but she pulled away sharply, a pained gasp escaping her lips.
“Don’t” she hissed, her eyes flashing dangerously. But Pan wasn’t deterred. He had seen the way she winced, the way her body trembled with the effort of keeping something hidden. Something was hurting her, and it wasn’t just physical. “You’re sick” Pan said, a note of concern creeping into his voice. “What’s happening to you?”. She turned away from him, her voice trembling as she spoke. “You wouldn’t understand”. “Try me”.
For a long moment, she was silent, battling with herself. Finally, she looked at him, her eyes glowing in the dim light. “I’m not… like you. I’m a monster”. Pan frowned, not understanding. “What do you mean?”. “The full moon” she whispered, her voice tight with fear and shame. “It changes me. I’m not human. I’m… a werewolf”. Pan stared at her, the pieces slowly falling into place. Her wildness, her temper, the way she had been avoiding him, it all made sense now. But instead of fear, all he felt was a surge of protectiveness. He had seen monsters before, real monsters. She wasn’t one of them.
“Is that why you’ve been avoiding me?” he asked, his tone surprisingly gentle. She nodded, wrapping her arms around herself as if trying to hold herself together. “It’s not safe. For you, for anyone. I can’t control it”. Pan reached out again, this time she didn’t pull away. He placed a hand on her shoulder, his touch firm and reassuring. “You’re not alone in this. I’m not afraid of you”. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of relief and fear. “You should be”.
The night of the full moon arrived, and Pan stayed close to her despite her protests. She had tried to push him away, to run into the depths of the forest where she couldn’t hurt anyone, but Pan wouldn’t let her. He was determined to see this through, to help her in any way he could. As the moon rose high in the sky, she fell to the ground, her body convulsing with the force of the transformation. Pan watched in horror and fascination as her bones shifted, her muscles contorted, and her skin stretched to accommodate her new form. The pain was evident in her screams, each one tearing through the night air like a knife.
Pan’s heart pounded in his chest as he watched, helpless to do anything but stay by her side. Her form shifted into something monstrous, a humanoid wolf with fur sprouting from her skin, her yellow eyes glowing with an eerie light. Her growls turned feral, and for a moment, Pan wondered if he should have listened to her warnings. But then, she looked at him, and in those wild, glowing eyes, he saw something familiar. It was her. She was still in there, fighting against the monster, trying to hold on to what little humanity she had left. “Stay back” she growled, her voice distorted but still recognizable. Pan ignored the warning. He stepped closer, his hand reaching out to touch her furred arm. “I’m not leaving you”. She snarled, but there was no real malice in it. It was more a plea, a desperate attempt to protect him from herself. But Pan wasn’t afraid. He had faced the worst Neverland had to offer and come out on top. He wasn’t going to let her go through this alone.
As the night wore on, she gradually began to regain control, the feral light in her eyes dimming as she forced the beast within to submit. By the time the moon began to set, she was exhausted, her body trembling with the effort it had taken to keep herself from losing control completely. Pan knelt beside her, his arms wrapping around her trembling form. She collapsed against him, too tired to resist. “You’re not a monster” he whispered into her ear. “You’re strong. You fought it, and you won”. She looked up at him, her eyes reverting to their usual yellow, the sharp canines visible as she smiled weakly. “You don’t know how close I was to losing control”. “But you didn’t” Pan said firmly. “And you won’t. Not as long as I’m here”. She closed her eyes, resting her head against his chest, finally allowing herself to relax in his arms. For the first time in a long while, she felt safe. Pan wasn’t afraid of her. He saw her, the real her, and he stayed. In that moment, she realized that maybe, just maybe, she didn’t have to face the darkness alone anymore.
