wait do people read first person stories and think they're the ones in the story???

Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.

First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn’t have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

Important: the veins thing is NOT TRUE. Too many people have multicolored veins, veins look different in different spots and lighting, and in general it isn’t applicable to anyone whose veins aren’t easily visible. The gold/silver jewelry test is false as well, simply because most jewelry is not large enough to impact your appearance in a negative way (but it’s also shiny so there’s reflecting light at play). The BEST WAY to find your skin undertone is to test with fabric swatches. You don’t even have to buy a kit, just find a bunch of different solid-color fabrics you probably already own (shirts, pants, blankets, pillows, bedsheets, towels) and hold them around your bare face in natural light. Make sure any hair is tied back or covered, no makeup or accessories, just natural face in front of a white or neutral background.

You’re going to want to take photos or look in a mirror (mirror is better because phone cameras over-see). Look for which colors make you look sick versus which colors make you look healthy and vibrant. It’s not just the warmth of it, either. You might be overwhelmed by bright colors and need more grey and brown, or the opposite might be true. (What colors emphasize bags and dark circles under your eyes? Make you look pale or grey? Does the color black give you a yellow cast to your skin tone? What colors make your eyes pop? Are you wearing the clothes, or are the clothes dragging you along for the ride like a child playing dress-up in mommy’s heels?)

If you wanna see if you’re cool or warm, do the orange/magenta test. Two equally bright swatches of hot pink (magenta) and bold orange, individually wrap each one around your face & neck, and see which one looks LESS BAD on you. Maybe you look healthy and happy in both—this means something else is going on, like you might need a color test that focus on dark vs lightness or vibrancy vs dullness RATHER than warmth or coolness.

If you’re into it, there are a ton of deep dives you can go into about personal color theory, color seasons, personal styling, etc. That’s way too much for one post. The big idea is find the colors (hue, vibrancy, value) that don’t make you look ill—seriously, this is huge. Looking happy and healthy and inexplicably glowy will level up anything you wear and make a better first impression at public events.

i’m forever revisiting my own designs, so here’s a second attempt at Cersei’s ruby mourning dress and a first attempt at her in her hunting greens when she goes to meet with Ned. I think hunting greens implies menswear, but I’m not certain and I could be misinterpreting…? either way I think it is more reasonable for trying to be stealthy so that’s the route I took…
