There's people who fell in love with Greek myths either through reading the Iliad or Percy Jackson.
There's people who watched Disney's Hercules and developed an unhealthy obsession over it (probably because they had a crush on Meg or Hades, but anyways).
Or others that are just hyper-fixated on Epic the Musical.
....Then there's me, who's Greek myths brain rot formed while watching an episode of Martha Speaks back when I was about 7 years old, where the characters recreated mythological stories using household items to pass the time when they were stuck inside during a storm.

Rules: Make a 24-hour poll with the names of your WIPS, let it run, then write one sentence for every vote the winner received
Saw this and thought it looked fun, so let's give it a try.

Like they haven't done shit to him infact he feels pity for them cus they have to deal with Hermes shit all day
Hermes is losing his shit over it.

Am I the only one who slowly fell in love with Hermes through the whole olympians series???? I mean c’mon, the way he cared and treated May??? Him trying to be a good father to luke even though he knew he couldn’t interfere too much and about luke’s destiny?????? him helping percy out on the SoM so he could stop luke???? his speech about family????? honestly one of the coolest and most caring gods out there….
(haven’t read HoO or ToA yet so he may turn out to be an asshole though I honestly don’t think he will)

The TA discord was talking about first OCs today (or like a week ago by the time this gets posted because I'll probably queue it) and it made me think of this really old OC I had when I first read the books and never since.
When I read the books I thought it was weird that the gods kept having hundreds of demigod children over the centuries but never with each other so the OC was this son-adjacent of Ares and Aphrodite because I thought they were the most likely to have gotten knocked up over the years. His parents never actually gave him a name but his dad was always dragging him into wars so he would get referred to as 'soldier' and just kind of accepted that as his name.
Also he born at some time during WW2 and because of magic god-aging he actually fought in the battles as part of the American Army? and was possibly there on the beaches during D Day? idk why all the war stuff was there, I might have just been studying the world wars in history and watching documentaries about it so I just deposited all the information into my hcs. Anyway since the Titan War was happening, Ares was always sending him on jobs to do stuff against the TA but since he was just a himbo-esque, awkward, god version of a teenager that was trying to make his parents proud, he was mostly just hanging out with the TA demigods while they harmlessly fought against each other and they kept trying to get him to join like:-
Alabaster: Why do you still fight for your parents? They didn't even give you a name?
Soldier: Well, his mother didn't give him a second eye.
Ethan: Yes she did! She just took it back!
Soldier actually had a kind of similar relationship with his parents that Ethan had with Nemesis. They were always too busy with themselves so they hardly gave him the time of day. Aphrodite was much more affectionate with him on account of being Aphrodite but she never really went out of her way to spend time with him or let him know she loved him. Ares pretty much only saw him as a soldier, hence his 'name' so his relationship with Soldier was more like that of a commander and a subordinate than a father and son. It left Soldier kind of desperate for parental affection, especially from Ares, so he tries his best to be a good soldier and always pulls out all the stops to impress him in order to 'earn' his father's love, kind of like Clarisse does in pretty much all of her major appearances.
However, Soldier doesn't make much progress in getting Ares to like him and any affection he gets from impressing him is very short-lived. He starts getting pretty disillusioned but he forces himself not to acknowledge his doubts and tells himself it's fine but the TA demigods he bumps into from time to time are always giving each other the concerned side-eye whenever he brings up his extremely worrying daddy and mommy issues like "Dude, are you good?"

So January, 2024 was a productive reading month for me.
I read 7 books in all, of which, I read:
🔹️2 audiobooks
1️⃣▫️The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-eyn, tr. Lizzie Buehler- ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (lit fic, thriller, contemporary)
I had not known about this aspect of the tourism industry before reading this book. So it was quite fascinating to me.
2️⃣▫️All Systems Red by Martha Wells- ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Sci-fi)
This is, I think, the first pure sci-fi that I have read, and I enjoyed being inside the head of a robot.
🔹️1 series continuation
3️⃣▫️Sweep of the Heart by Ilona Andrews- ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (fantasy, romance)
Finally I'm done with the Innkeeper Chronicles. While this was still a comfort read, it was also a slow read. There was a lot of political intrigue involving characters I didn't much care for so this one wasn't as fun as the previous books in the series.
🔹️2 rereads
4️⃣▫️The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (middle grade, greek mythology, urban fanasy)
It was also my first read of the month. The recently released show got me interested in this again. I have made another post on it.
5️⃣▫️The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (middle grade, greek mythology, urban fanasy)
It was also as much fun as the first Percy Jackson book, especially because I have forgotten everything from my first read. Came across the character Circe in this one, and couldn't help myself from wanting to know her pov next before starting the 3rd book in the series.
🔹️2 fresh reads
6️⃣▫️Circe by Madeline Miller- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (greek mythology, feminist retelling)
The Sea of Monsters made me want to read Circe. And this was my favorite read of the month. I loved the character development of Circe. I loved the witchy vibes. I loved the depiction of her solitary independent life on the island. I loved the critiques of patriarchy. What I didn't like was the ending.
SPOILER AHEAD
I understood Circe's loneliness but I didn't like that the powerful witch Circe ended up needing to spend her mortal life with Telemachus and bear his children to get her happy ending.
SPOILER OVER
7️⃣▫️The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (historical fiction, mystery)
I buddyread this one, and enjoyed reading it even though it was a slow read. Buddyread definitely helped in going through with it. There were two timelines. Sometimes the transition from one timeline to another felt like an interruption but at the end both the timelines added to the substance of the story, especially the past timeline was important for the characterization of our protagonist. I loved the various little details including those pertaining to the setting, the law and the architecture and also those pertaining to the various characters and their dynamics with each other. I also enjoying making speculations about the killer. I also liked how it touched upon some of the societal issues of the time period through the lens of a woman.
