Nocturnal Painting

Van Gogh had intended to make a nocturnal painting for some time. And not one in the conventional manner, in shades of black and grey, but actually with an abundance of colours. Equally unconventional is that he paints this gas-lit terrace of a café in Arles in situ and in the dark, because colours have a different appearance during the day than by night.

Sharp Contrast

The most eye-catching aspect is the sharp contrast between the warm yellow, green and orange colours under the marquise and the deep blue of the starry sky, which is reinforced by the dark blue of the houses in the background. Van Gogh was pleased with the effect: ‘I believe that an abundance of gaslight, which, after all, is yellow and orange, intensifies blue.’

Constellations

He writes to his sister Wil: ‘I enormously enjoy painting on the spot at night.’ The fact that he observes keenly is borne out by later astronomical research. He painted the constellations precisely as they appeared on the night of 16 or 17 September 1888.

Hiker Crossing and Cars Along the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along the Skyline Drive with a view looking down the road to the west-northwest. This is in Shenandoah National Park around a location Google Maps lists as Low Gap. The image itself was a random happening with cars on the road as well as one hiker beginning to cross along the Dickey Ridge Trail in this part of the national park. The image itself is slightly out of focus as I was attempting to capture the hiker before he crossed the road and hadn't had a chance to select a focal point prior to releasing the shutter. But I did like that out-of-focus look as it had an artistic feel to the image.

YES YES I NEED THIS SIGN IN EVERY SINGLE PARK PLEASE

This is my daily struggle, I had so many arguments with people with off-leash dogs (in a mandatory leash area!!!). Thanks to this behavior I'm struggling with Kim being anxious/aggressive with other females as she often gets involved in unpleased interactions with free females while on leash. And every single time that I ask for the dog to be at least recalled, I'm being called names and insulted of course.

Also 9 out of 10 their dog isn't really that friendly at all.

one of my absolute favorite things that we need to talk about more is the absolutely fed up look on louis' face s2ep8 when he tells lestat he's going to be with armand.

that man did not want to be with armand and was hoping lestat would throw one of his typical fits, and when he didn't, louis (also insane) realized that, fuck, well now he's gotta commit to the bit.

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet
