can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!

Every time I sharpen a knife I am astounded by the control and perception you can exert on the world with your hands. You're just rubbing some metal over a rough flat surface, but you can tell when the surface is slightly not flat by a few micrometers because the blade will scrape across it unevenly. You can perfectly follow a curved edge to set an even grind by pure feel of friction, even with confounding factors like an uneven stone and haphazardly applied water as lubricant.

You can maintain a consistent angle and reset that angle multiple times as you flip from side to side, you can feel out that your draw length is the same and you feel a kind of innate wrongness when you don't draw long enough on one side as the other. I'm not even particularly good at this and I can get a shaving edge on my knives in a few minutes.

Like, I do other hand crafts, sewing, sure, I can sew a 2mm backstitch seam all day, but there's so much obvious visual feedback to help you do it, here you are on a mode of operation that cannot be perceived visually pretty much at all, and it works!

As a concept, I do think Cas could have been very cool, especially as a window into the inherent hypocrisy of hunting. And I think he has glimmers of being interesting. But he's so tied to the misogyny inherent to the show in a way that doesn't even say anything, it's just why he's there, that it fills me with blind rage. And that's on top of how the writers were unwilling to explore the logical implications of his character, and so ultimately went with a very flat "he's made mistakes and always feels bad about it! He's trying so hard" angle. I just...I'm so unable to really feel invested in the character when they never questioned his trustworthiness in season five, after Ruby was stabbed to death for ultimately the same sin, and at the same time as Sam was constantly being observed. Everything he ever does is built on having blackmailed Jimmy into letting him use his body forever, and never addressing that basic point makes any attempt at giving him depth fall flat for me.

i've never paid nearly as much attention to his storylines as you have, anon so i can't give you much in return but you do bring attention to how many abandoned plot points are related to his character. he's like the cw's supernatural's desktop trash bin. i'm sure there's a long non-ship fix-it out there that's attempting to give him a kind of justice that could make you interested in him <3

“armand doesn’t care enough about humanity to choose his victims like that” has it occurred to you that maybe it’s part of the role he’s playing for louis? or even just that all the info you got about how/why he chooses his victims was filtered through louis and you don’t have the full picture yet?

In progress wip! I didn't use the clip studio models at all this time (I do have a reference image, below the cut) so you can see I do a LOT more sketching.

Sketch 1 is just to get the general shapes, proportions, poses, etc down. I always fill in the sketches so I have something a bit more solid, sort of simulating the models in that way.

Sketch 2 is more detailed - it's drawn over sketch 1 (which is then hidden).

The third image here is essentially the lineart step - I like to block in the colors because it helps me see if everything looks correct a lot more than if it's just lines. And helps me not lose track of what is what.

I amended the ref to include "Darkstar". Her head is very big cat shaped as opposed to dog shaped imo so I usually slap it onto a Doberman body (which you can barely see here but it's fine). As you can see I deviated to a more dog like snout anyway in the WIP but it's fine.

my favourite thing about this panel in episode 63

is that rachel did not move athena for twenty three panels

^ this is at the beginning of episode 63. rachel literally kept athena and the background the exact same, blurred it slightly, and put hestia and artemis in the forefront. you can tell she's still got the vacant smile even blurred out. rachel's been doing the png thing for a while

Gender undefined feels like the best descriptor for how I see reguri. They're lesbians. Not girls. Not boys. Another unspecified things. She/him green and any pronouns red. They're pretty masc presenting but it doesn't really matter to either of them how they're viewed.

I just saw that post about character misconception in fandom and Adam and I just realized• isn't it weird that Lute doesn't receive the same treatment? Like most of the times, people will agree that she's a bitch and a genocidal monster, but with Adam it's the "he had every right to act like this for x and z reasons" from the (chronically online) fangirls or the religious conservative fanboys? Why is that?

I realize this might be a slightly odd ask, but… Out of curiosity, what sort of foods do you think Machete would be fond of? And do you think they’d differ noticeably from when he was young vs once he’d grown older?

He's a fussy eater. He rarely eats for pleasure and dislikes being seen dining in company, but attends formal dinners and banquets if invited, since declining without a very good reason would be at best rude and at worst a devastating faux pas. He prefers fowl dishes over red meat and greatly dislikes sea food (which is just peachy since this is the Mediterranean). Pasta seems to be already a well established part of the cuisine at that point, maybe he's into that. For the most of his life he's eaten rather simple foods so he finds bland soups and broths very safe and comforting. Pomegranates are his fruit of choice, he doesn't have much of a sweet tooth but enjoys candied apricots and figs on occasion.

He's exceptionally bad at holding his liquor, and he can't stand the feelings of unpredictability, disorientation, unsafeness and potential loss of control that being intoxicated causes in him. Unfortunately, drinking plain water was very risky and uncommon, it was contaminated and unsanitary more often than not, especially in population centers. Generally the main drinks you'd consume through the day were diluted wine and beer/ale (this was the case for children as well). Machete tends to prefer wine, which he waters down heavily, and sometimes has it flavored with spices, herbs, honey or sugar. Having even a little bit of alcohol in the mix would kill at least a portion of the bacteria (not that the concept was known at the time, people believed many illnesses were caused by tainted air and foul smells, I mean fair enough, if your water is filthy it probably smells bad too).

(Fun fact, apparently Ancient Romans had more or less perfected the art of winemaking but by the Middle Ages a lot of the techniques had been lost. During the Renaissance wine was generally very low quality and the way it was fermented and stored (making the switch from sealed ceramic amphora of the Antiquity to those iconic wooden barrels) meant it would only stay good for a year at best and the taste would start to deteriorate within the first couple of months. Vintage wines weren't a thing, the best stuff was fresh. Apparently European wine was pretty bad for hundreds of years and would only start to improve again around 1800s. Or at least that's what I've gathered, I could be wrong, I'm not a wine expert).

Europe hadn't quite adopted tea yet and he narrowly missed the time coffee began to spread to his corner of the world (I bet he would've loved both of those, with the help of caffeine he could've been twice as much of a jittery sleepless wreck). I've read that people would distill sage and drink the resulting concoction with hot water to create this very tea-like minty drink, that sounds like something he'd like.
