Little Women (Korean Drama)
If this story was inspired by Louisa May Alcott's novel titled Little Women, all I can say that this is a very dark story. The truth is that the only things these two stories have in common - apart from the title - are that:
The Oh sisters are poor.
There were four daughters but the third one passed away when she was little and before the youngest was born.
They have a reach great-aunt.
The eldest daughter resents their poverty and longs for pretty things and to be rich.
The second oldest has a close relationship tot he rich aunt (and they don't necessarily get along).
The youngest is bit selfish and artistic.
The second oldest has a best friend who is in love with her.
Here is where the similarities end, for these girls have very irresponsible parents. An alcoholic and gambler for a father and their mother is selfish and steals her daughters' money because she wants to go to the Philippines where her husband is at the moment. The series introduces the audience to the story in a moment when these three sisters are having a hard time:
Oh In Joo (the eldest) is plant sitting for her best friend who is traveling. She needs money desperately for her youngest sister.
Oh In Kyung is a new reporter who has a problem with alcohol. She is uncovering a story about suicide cases related to a bank's bankruptcy but no on is taking her seriously because of her alcoholism.
Oh In Hye is attending an expensive high school that specializes in the arts and she has been hired by her friend's parents so she can paint a portrayed that will be passed as her friend's own work.
These sisters might not realize it but what is happening in each their lives is connected and wrapping them up in a nightmare that explodes once In Joo's best friend Hwa Young dies. . .
This series will keep you in suspense from beginning to end. It has many plot twists that keep you second guessing your self. Each sister's personalities and desires affect how they react and make decisions as they face the different situations. There are trust issues here as well. Who can these girls trust?
This is a great suspense drama!

Queen of Tears (2024)
On the surface this seems like just an ordinary romantic drama with an interesting premise. It turned out to be a master class in acting, editing, cinematography and (even) writing. I loved these characters and was genuinely sad to see it end.
What Worked
The two leads were amazing. Kim Soo-Hyun put in his best performance so far, and Kim Ji-Won did an excellent job making you like a character that was written to be cold and unlikeable. I'd say it was her best role, but you know My Liberation Notes was still better.
The rest of the cast was great too. Park Sung-hoon was great at playing the villain and making him both sympathetic and contemptible. Kwak Dong-yeon did an excellent job at turning the biggest idiot kid brother into someone you were cheering for at the end.
This drama, more than most, also did a standout job of using editing and film work to help set the mood for the story.
What Didn't Work
This show is as close to flawless as you can get. There are things that I wish they'd done differently, but those are more about taste than quality, because the show was excellent.
The Performances
The cast was excellent across the board. I've already mentioned the two leads. I could probably go through and say something nice about each actor, but that would be way too long. There were a few actors that were new to me that especially liked watching.
Yoon Bo-mi as "Secretary Bestie" Na Chae-yeo. This actor did an excellent job of grounding the scene and making Kim Ji-won's character more human and likable. She was also very funny on her own.
Lee Mi-sook as "Worst Mother Ever" Moh Seul-hee. The show didn't do much to explain the whys of her character, but Lee Mi-sook was so interesting to watch, that I mostly didn't care. Really good performance overall.
Kim Jung-nan as "Fighter Auntie" Hong Beom-ja. I had a hard time taking this character seriously at first, but the actor did a great job of showing you how much Beom-ja cared about her family, which made me start to care about the character. Alot of fun to watch (even if they should have given her a proper loveline at the end).
Jeon Bae-soo and Hwang Young-hee as "World's Best Parents (2024)." It would be hard to make Hyun-woo's parents unlikeable, since they get to be the moral center of the show in some ways, but it was also important to make them interesting in a cast of over the top characters. The actors did a good job with that, and I really enjoyed watching them play off the rest of the cast.
TL; DR:
If you like K-dramas you've probably already seen this. That being said, I like K-dramas and I still haven't watched this writer's other big hit Crash Landing on You, so it YMMV. Bottom line: it's your precious little life, choose wisely.

Opinion
This is a very good series, I binge watched it in a few days. I loved the queen! How strong, resourceful, and independent she was. I loved all the characters, especially the queen and prince Seongnam. I also loved how the king was very supportive of her. The series had a lot of different topics, from motherhood to sexuality. It's a drama series. There are no gore or sex scenes. I recommend this series to anyone who likes history dramas.

Reverend Moon’s movement has come to nothing
The problems in Unificationism originate with reverend Moon himself. Examining the transition of reverend Moon’s theology over the course of his ministry, from the sex relay theology of the early church to the current True Parents theology, contradictions and inconsistencies emerge that cannot be explained away simply as ‘a progressive revelation from God’. Because even if reverend Moon didn’t know, God does know and He is consistent. Reverend Moon didn’t know who he should marry nor how many wives he should have. He didn’t know how many children to have or even with whom. No. Apparently reverend Moon didn’t know what he was supposed to do and was seeking guidance and awaiting signs from God. The inconsistencies in the word and deed of reverend Moon indicate that much of the guidance he received in communications with the spirits was in fact not from God. This explains why despite the sincere and dedicated efforts of many devoted followers, reverend Moon’s movement has come to nothing.
There are numerous contradictions in his teachings. Examine the following examples. Are they consistent with each other?
Eve must indemnify the Fall ‘In the Garden of Eden, Eve was responsible for initiating the fall of man; therefore, unless an Eve can be found who can indemnify the fall in the Garden of Eden, Adam would have no way to assume the supreme position of perfection.’ (May 1, 1977)
Eve cannot come from the dominion of the Fall ‘The bride whom the Christ, who is the bridegroom, is trying to find on this earth is not a woman under the dominion of the fall. He is trying to find a person who is born from an unfallen, pure lineage. The third mother has to be the one who can advance to the position of mother (true mother) as a virgin who has no connection with evil.’
These quotes are being used against each other in the current factional face off. So apparently, at least to some, these statements are inconsistent with each other. Having the living, breathing Messiah with us, guiding us directly in detail was supposed to dispel doubt and confusion and take us beyond Christianity into the ideal world. Not quite there yet. ____________________________________
Father said: “The last six millennia have been a history of seeking and re-creating one Adam. Eve cannot be created without Adam. That is why God is creating one man, Adam. That is why you must follow me.”
Sun Myung Moon CSG, p. 723
Mother said: “The 2000 years history of Christianity was to prepare for the Lordess of the Second advent – the Only Begotten Daughter.”
CheongPyeong, Korea, October 24, 2015
Myeongdae Kim’s lecture on the new theology of Hak Ja Han: Mother said. “How can Father not have original sin if all of his siblings had original sin?” Mother mentioned that Father was born with original sin. ... Mother, who is without original sin, selected Father, who had original sin. So, she had her holy wedding with Father on March 16th, 1960 (lunar calendar). Mother engrafted Father through the holy wedding. LINK
Who do you believe, Father or Mother? ____________________________________
Ancestor liberation by DaeMoNim was a scam that Moon allowed. In 1976 he had already declared: “Liberation of spirit world and forgiveness of past sins.”
▲ Moon with children from three mothers. Sung-jin Moon (mother Seon-gil Choi) is on the left. Hee-jin Moon is on the right. His mother was Myung-hee Kim. Moon was still married to Seon-gil Choi when Hee-jin was born. The younger children are Ye-Jin and Hyo-Jin. They are standing in front of their mother, Hak Ja Han. Moon took Sung-jin away from his mother and Hee-jin away from his. Moon asked Won-pil Kim to be responsible for Sung-jin, and Hyo-won Eu for Hee-jin.
And then there was Dong-sook, whose mother apparently died before 1960, and Sam Park (mother Soon-wha Choi) and some other children…

During the Park Chung-hee administration, he and Chun Doo-hwan formed Hanahoe, a private military organization. Right after the June Uprising, he announced the June 29 Declaration and accepted the constitutional amendment for direct presidential elections. On February 25, 1988, the 6th Republic of Korea was launched.
Upon inauguration as president, he accepted the theory of liquidating the 5th communist party, organized a large number of military personnel, reinstated a large number of opposition figures who were banned from political activities, expanded freedom of the press, and started to데드 마운트 데스 플레이 다시 보기 1화 (애니) integrate the middle. In line with the global atmosphere of détente, North Korea policy was implemented and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula was declared by signing the Inter-Korean Basic Agreement. He also established the basis for North Korea policy to be pursued by all governments of the 6th Republic, such as joining North Korea and the United Nations sim데드 마운트 데스 플레이 다시 보기 1화 (애니)ultaneously, and successfully hosted the 1988 Seoul Olympics. It is the first president not to use the expression, Mr. President, [19] and the first president to express himself as 'me' rather than 'me' when standing in front of the people, and is also the president who announces the end of the era of authoritarianism.
After resigning as president, he was arrested and indicted along with former President Chun Doo-hwan in 1995 on charges of leading the 12.12 military rebellion and 5.17 civil war. As a result, he became the first president arrested in constitutional history, but was pardoned by former President Kim Young-sam on December 22, 1997.
After undergoing surgery for prostate cancer in 2002, due to deteriorating health, he lived in seclusion, going back and forth between his home in Yeonhui-dong and the hospital. [21] In June 2007, he attended a banquet on the 20th anniversary of the June 29 Declaration, and was not seen at all in public or media.[22]
[23] As a result, the era of 1 No 3 Kim, who dominated the beginning of the 6th Republic of Korea, has completely disappeared into the dark side of history.[24] The slogan used in the presidential election, "The Great Age of Common People" is famous. Even though he was not a co데드 마운트 데스 플레이 다시 보기 1화 (애니)mplete dictator like Park Chung-hee and Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo also had a strong military image, and he almost became like that. Even at the time of the presidential election, because of the enthusiasm for democratization, I was lagging behind Kim Young-sam and Kim Dae-jung in many areas, so I was struggling. It's not an exaggeration, so it can be seen as a modifier of gratitude to Roh Tae-woo in a way. Of course, at Roh Tae-woo's election camp, he encountered the slogan "ordinary person" and responded, "No, what kind of president does an 'ordinary person' do? Isn't his image too weak?" He said he really liked it, saying, "It's a phrase that I can approach comfortably."
The slogan "ordinary people" is approached in a particularly friendly way, and the influence of "ordinary people", the most popular drama in the early 1980s, mentioned in item 5, cannot be overlooked. This drama, which aired from 1982 to 1984, was the longest-running daily drama in history, with 491 episodes aired. Hwang Jeong-soon, Lee Soon-jae, Kim Min-ja, Kang Seok-woo, Yu Ji-in, Lee Young-ha, Geum Bo-ra, Song Jae-ho, Han Hye-sook, Jeong Han-yong, Han Jin-hee, Cho Yong-won, and Tae Hyun-sil, etc., gained national popularity. enjoyed Roh Tae-woo's election strategists did not lose sight of the meaning of ordinary people in this drama, which warmly portrayed the economic development and the expansion of the middle class in the 1980s, and was a great success.
So, even after the presidential election, he wrote quite a lot at inauguration ceremonies and various speeches, and at the time of Roh Tae-woo's administration, Daehan News occasionally reported on ordinary people who did good deeds, using the modifier 'great ordinary people'. Hwang Jeong-soon, the heroine of the drama, participated in the 'Gathering of Ordinary People', an organization for Roh Tae-woo's election campaign. She was a symbol of Korea's economic growth leading to the drama Paldogangsan - Ordinary People and a symbol of wise mothers who persevered through hard times, so she played a role in softening the negative legacy of the military regime and highlighting the positive legacy. The people who lit the 1988 Seoul Olympic torch also paid much attention to the modifier, as many expected Sohn Kee-jung, but three ordinary people ignited it.[26] Because of that, comedians used this word quite a lot whenever they imitated Noh Tae-woo's voice, and he himself said, "It's okay to make me the subject of satire from now on." In terms of policy, it breaks the link with the 5th lesson and encourages meetings as in the paragraph above, and I myself have had frequent meetings with opposition figures such as Kim Young-sam and Kim Jong-pil, and have succeeded to some extent in breaking down the previous military regime and authoritarian image. The slogan remained as a symbol of Roh Tae-woo and the Roh Tae-woo government.[27]
As mentioned above, just as the president declared that he could use himself as a comedy material, his slogan, 'ordinary people', was parodied with the then satirical cartoonist Joo Wan-soo's 'ordinary gorilla'. It was mainly a book that satirized the distorted contradictions of society in the late 1980s in the form of a gorilla, and featured the following song lyrics in the middle.

Under the Queen's Umbrella
This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.
When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.
Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.
Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.
Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.
Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.
As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.
I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.
I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.
I truly love this story!

Once Upon a Small Town (2022)
It's hard to dislike this show, even if it's the TV equivalent of a giant fluffy bag of cotton candy. It's short, sweet, safe, and uses a bunch of familiar tropes. It feels like Hometown Cha x 3 only with a smaller budget, and way more farm animals.
There's a meet cute, followed by a long lost Childhood Connection, with both leads having an Orphan Family Story, as well as a Double Love Triangle with a Surprise Ex-Girlfriend. The writing feels lazy, but they manage to do just enough work that it doesn't feel like pandering. You know from the beginning that the OTP will make it okay, and that the love pentagram will be complete, with everyone important paired off just in time for the last episode.
The Performances
Park Soo-young (aka "Joy") as Ahn Ja-young. Park Soo-young has an entire career as part of a K-pop group (which I know nothing about), but she's started to branch out into acting. She's pretty good in this. I think it helps that this is a small series with no one there to outshine her, but she's onscreen with kids, and animals, and (despite the cliche) she isn't completely upstaged. I even felt genuine feels a couple of times from her performance.
Chu Young-woo as Han Ji-yul. The other lead is also a very young actor, but kept enough of my interest that I never got bored with him. Again, it helped that his character was a bit of a stoic, but he was obviously trying his best and had a few good moments, especially the episode with the Old Man and the 30-year-old Bull. I wouldn't say his chemistry was off the charts, but this was basically the Korean equivalent of a Lifetime Movie, so it didn't have to be.
Park Ye-ni as Young-Sook. I picked this show up because I enjoyed watching her play a side character in You Are My Spring. The writers didn't give her much to work with until the end, but she did a good job with it and was able to bring out a few good moments in the last 3-4 episodes when they gave her something to do. Still funny and fun to watch.
Baek Seong-cheol as Lee Sang-hyeon. Normally, this character is the boring third wheel, and his/her job is to help the OTP figure out their feelings and then disappear. One of the smarter things the writers did was to make this character be a childhood friend who is a pretty decent guy. Instead of just getting dumped on, he was helpful and supportive of Ahn Ja-young. He just wanted something that she didn't. The downside to this choice is that it can make all of the characters seem indecisive and wishy-washy, but the acting (especially from Baek Seong-cheol) was good enough that you felt like you understood and respected the characters instead.
Everyone else. The Auntie brigade was fun. The small town cops were okay. The little kiddos were largely okay, and even good in a few places. All of the side characters (including Old Guy With 30-year-old Bull) were good. The actor who played the ex-girlfriend was very new but didn't mess things up. So there's no big complaints.
TL; DR:
It's a cute show that you can just put on with dinner or in the background and not worry about it. It knows what it's trying to do, and it manages to accomplish most of those goals without screwing up. If you like fluffy romance stories, you'll probably enjoy this.
