Why is it?
It it really just optimism bias and wishful thinking that causes most of the "build parallel institutions" types — particularly "seasteaders" and Srinivasan's "network state" — to optimistically "handwave away" questions of their proposals' economic viability?

thought about the livvy & jace/janus parallels again 378 dead 2992 injured... like wdym they were killed by the exact same sword, with jace being stabbed in the back & livvy stabbed in the front. wdym they were raised on the shores of the exact same lake almost exactly five years apart. wdym they were both came back wrong. the way livvy and janus share the common goal of just wanting to get what they lost too, and they both spend their gotsm stories watching their loved ones with no way to properly interact with them despite how badly they want to.
it's arguably one of the things that terrifies me the most going into twp like literally what does it all mean... what does this mean for livvy...

Whenever I do a TMA s1 relisten I love love love finding things that ended up changing over the next few seasons as the show became more fully fleshed out. Tim being serious and Sasha being the joker? Iconic. Whatever the fuck entity was leaving bags of doll heads and prayers on some random doorstep? Who even are you. How could you do that. What’s your number.
Anyway I need more of these to keep going thanks

miquella as a jesus allegory YES but not Just as the divine figurehead in the institution of christianity. jesus as the guy. jesus as the son of god. jesus as the kindhearted, earnest soul. jesus as the one people put their earnest faith into and followed. jesus as someone who agonizingly, excruciatingly gave all of himself in sacrifice for the salvation of others. jesus who was a friend to the forsaken and downtrodden. jesus as “guy who was actually Really Cool and onto something before all this religion fucked it up”. can anybody hear me

Can you even imagine the potential of a good-luck-babe-ified fiarina. Like an AU where 12 y/o Fia still stands up for Irina and helps her escape, but then submits to her father's initial punishment of repentance instead of choosing execution. Fia swears an oath to the Reaper and vows never to practice Trickster magic again.
When she's of age, her father has her married off to some random young man (the son of another clergyman, perhaps). Reverend Boginya retires and passes his position down to his son-and-law. *Not* his daughter, for she is just a woman, learned as she may be.
The old preacher's daughter becomes the new preacher's wife. Fia never leaves that desolate little town.
And she's miserable, of course. Miserable in her marriage, miserable in her duties as a woman of the church. But isn't that what she deserves? It's what the Reaper calls for her, for all of them.
But then it happens. They have a Judgement scheduled today, or at least, Fia's husband does. She doesn't do much besides stand next to him and read some hymns. She watches the beginnings of an execution carried out in perfect order before suddenly... Chaos. A woman appears wreathed in green light and fae magicks and vengeance. She burns the entire proceedings to the ground with every bystander caught in her wake.
Or, *nearly* every bystander.
The person on the scales escapes wordlessly, far too terrified of what just happened. Fia's husband, the preacher, is gone. But for some reason, she herself has been spared. She kneels in disbelief in a sea of ash and smoke.
Some part of her, deep down, recognizes that magic. It's sinful Trickster magic, of course, but there's something more, someone more. And that same part, that shameful, shameful part, feels relieved.

Everyone arguing about Stannis, JonCon, Jaime, god forbid Jorah being the 1000th commander of the NW….when it will be Jon again 🌚
#btw this is not stannerism like i do have legitimate reasons why i think it will be jon at the end#i think an interesting part of jon’s politiking as LC is him realizing how deep the rot is in the watch#he spends an entire book - agot - realizing that he institution he spent his childhood idolizing is not so glorious#he spends the next book directly confronting the issues that come with being a good man ( helping gilly#and being a true man to the watch and starting to notice the cracks in the system#and then asos is like the turning point you know?#adwd is him trying to fix the watch from within but failing imo because as i said the rot is far deeper#it doesnt matter how many people you replace the watch needs an overhaul - a complete uprooting to the core#which is why i dont like theories of him being a passive bystander as the watch crumbles#its just too narratively juicy if he takes a part in the destruction of the watch coz yknow some things need to be cleansed w/ fire n blood#a nice lil parallel to dany and what shell be doing in the east throughout winds#i like him as the 1000th lc because its a nice round number and thats a bit silly but its also signifying a renewal#Its a blank slate which is essential to jon because he does have a vision for the watch and the wildings!#and he can start from the ground up - and like one of the most underrated themes in jon’s arc is nation building#ive said before that i think the show kinda got it right….like we’ll see a weird mesh of lc of the nw and kbtw as jon’s endgame#I wont get into that now….but i know a lot of jon stans dont want him back at the wall because it seems needlessly cyclical and i get it#and i get that the watch isnt the most glorious place to be…but i really do think its meant to be a vehicle to explore themes of rebirth#and renewal which appear in jon’s arc -think of jon’s messianic framing and the watch being his “new earth” after all is said and done#not so much a place of punishment but a place to find new meaning and exist beyond many societal frameworks#for the cripples bastards and broken things….anywayyyyy lmaoo#asoiaf#jon snow

Every time I play fo4 I always think of how the synth fear narrative could've been so good in the hands of competent writers. They could make a point about how society ostracizes neurodivergent/mentally ill people. They could have made a point about any kind of bigotry and how it seeps into society, really. They could have actually made the Institute morally grey or even good instead of going for the easy way out of saying everyone's fears are actually true so really what was the point of creating this issue in the game to begin with

ok i swear i posted something like this ages ago but i can't find it so fuck it im posting it now
so im rewatching torchwood with my mum rn and im also in the middle of listening to tma so i can't get the idea out of my head that the torchwood team and the archives staff are literally the same people in slightly different genres, like torchwood just deal with aliens instead of the supernatural
anyway here's the character parallels i can think of
jack - jon
both the boss of the group
everyone hates them at one point or another
burdened with a fate they can't avoid (immortality/being an avatar)
bisexual (jack's omni but that's under the bi umbrella so it counts)
really doesn't like their love interest at first
ianto - martin
in love with their boss from like the very beginning
tea man / coffee man
softie but also like...don't get on their bad side.
Tragic Backstory™
one of their first interactions with their jobs was because of an animal (myfanwy counts as an animal here, then the dog from the trailer/liveshow)
tosh - sasha
the reliable one
definitely queer
dead (sorry)
owen - tim
the flirty one
bisexual
probably the one who hates their boss the most
dead (sorry again)
gwen - daisy
joined the group later
ex-police
easily angered
bonus: if gwens daisy, this makes andy basira lmao
literally the only difference is there's no elias - there's no evil boss, jack's just an enigma

magnus au……. let me in……………..
begging u to speak on it as well :0 you made the fear assignments n all that but what does it really entail for the au itself…. what IS the au……. eheh
rolls up sleeves. oh boy do i have Ideas
clover has lived in the apocalypse for far too long. they had begun their journey to the mountain they had heard five children had died at right before it began. theyre scared, they’re alone, and all they want is justice. for themselves? for all the people they see suffering? they don’t know. all they know is the feeling of death crawling up their back and the sensation of something Watching them.
they continue to run away from everything. continue to hide from the monsters and amalgamations of fear that have overtaken everything they used to know (saying everything they used to love would be… a little bit of a stretch for them.)
then they get to mt ebott. that feeling of Death only grows. they have a feeling they won’t survive this fall, or whatever awaits them down there, but it’s easier than dealing with what is happening on the surface.
so, they jump. and they bring the same mentality with them that they had on the surface to the underground: kill or be killed
tldr: clover goes to the underground during the eyepocalypse. The Horrors ensue. in part to them (aren’t clover’s supposed to be a symbol of luck or something? doesn’t seem like it for them)

Hey, listen about this series I just finished. It's set in workplace environment, there's plenty characters but the constant ones are two guys, one shorter, associated with green and eye imagery, the other is taller than him, associated with blue. They're often on fanart together, there's even a ship of them.
Anyway some time in their work they discover that their boss (often shown in classy clothing, and he's also associated with eyes) is evil! And their workplace? Basically one big trauma machine, using human fear for energy. There's also a big deal with doors in the universe? The don't quite lead to where they're supposed to, sometimes to really weird places.
Sounds like The Magnus Archives? Well too bad! I'm talking about Monsters Inc.
