valgrace except it’s two days before new years. modern au for drabble purposes.

jason left america to visit italy. he and reyna haven’t seen each other in a while so after christmas, he had booked a flight, said his goodbyes, and boarded the plane. leo had stayed, driving from new york to texas with will so they can both see their mothers, introducing the women who just hit it off so well leo and will were a little nervous about their influence on each other.

it wasn’t all bad. just embarrassing childhood photos and stories leo had to suffer through before he and will went on tangents about the kids they’re counseling at camp.

during the days, jason and leo still kept in touch. they texted every single detail about their adventures to one another, even the littlest details. like how the ruins in rome would have annabeth with heart eyes, cafes here and there she would also like as well. sometimes they’d call to help each other pick out clothes, which colors would look good with which, reyna and will’s running commentary in the background.

they would just talk and talk that there wasn’t a moment they weren’t on the phone.

then leo and will drove back to new york on new year’s eve. the counselors set things up for the kids who didn’t have homes to return to, spend time with the others but within every hour closer to midnight, leo checked his phone. jason was supposed to come back but there was nothing. no phone calls, no texts, just silence.

needless to say, leo was anxious. and he was stressed.

and as they’re ready for the countdown, crowded by the bonfire with fireworks and food and drinks and games at the ready, leo’s name is called five seconds in.

he whipped around to search for the direction it came from because even in the loud chanting, the laughs and the giggles, leo can hear jason’s name anywhere. he spent so much time committing that soft voice to memory, the smile, how he’d say leo’s name.

and he runs off.

he runs like hell is on his heels and collides into jason who meets him halfway, arms around each other as the fireworks are set off and the clock strikes midnight.

muggle boarding school au. mainly focuses on the friendship and found family aspect. sirius centric, especially with his family (parents, cousins, brother). all the characters are incredibly fleshed out. this is year 1-3. the author is gonna write the rest of the years in another work. it's part of a whole series of various other works set in the same universe. very very wholesome and fluffy and hurt/comfort with emphasis on the comfort. maybe feels a bit unrealistic with how harsh the real world but it seems intentional

My Body’s Made of Crushed Little Stars

The wind howled and scraped against the windows, longing to get in, to escape the biting cold. Windows of a small cottage piled with snow and kissed by frost. Inside, two women sleeping side by side, warm breath, warm skin. White hair against red, brown skin against white.

Pandora’s gray eyes open, but she can’t see Lily. She looks, frantically, grasping at the place where she knows her body is. Panic grips her by the ribcage as she moves, searching. She walks through familiar hallways, places she’s seen but never been to. Pictures line the walls, smiling faces she has seen but never met.

Pandora walks faster, she’s had this dream before and she doesn’t like how it ends.

Someone is knocking on the door. Pandora wants to open it, she knows she shouldn’t. Everytime, the same. Her fingertips prickle, something pulling her towards the handle. There’s bad things outside the door, nothing but pain and sorrow.

Pandora’s head is so cloudy, she just wants to find Lily. What if she’s behind the door? Pandora looks down at the handle. Gold, with a lion. The door handle on their cottage is brass. Pandora engraved a lily on the knob. The two handles converge in her mind and a pain sears through her head.

Where’s Lily?

Pandora opens the door and steps through. The night is dark and her feet are cold, but the front yard smells like summer and fireflies. One foot in front of the other, Pandora stumbles through the wet grass, head pounding.

She hears the door slam shut behind her, but that’s a distant memory now. She’s looking for something. Pandora kneels on the ground, thinking it can’t be too far. She peers through the blades of grass. All the worms have gone underground for the night.

The cottage doesn’t have grass in the front yard, it has wildflowers. Pandora tries to stand, but her legs shake. The street lamps go out. A robed figure walks down the path to the front door. The door with the lion on the handle.

Pandora tries to cry out, warn the people inside, the family. Her voice is gone, trapped in a different world, a different time. She crawls through the yard, trying to stop the monster from baring his teeth.

A flick of his hand and the door flies open. And there it is, the terrible green lighting, streaking across Pandora’s vision, even as she shuts her eyes.

Three flashes, and it’s over.

Pandora collapses to her hands and knees in the grass, entire body shivering. She sobs with no sound, breathes with no air. Where’s Lily? Where’s Lily? Where’s Lily?

Pandora knows where Lily is. She’s in the house with the gold handle, with the grass in the yard, smiling pictures on the walls. Her body is on the floor in front of a cradle, baring her teeth, even in death. Pandora heaves breath after breath, trying to breathe enough for the both of them. She’s so cold, so very cold. The absence of Lily driving away any warmth she ever had.

She looks up and sees a shooting star blazing a path through the sky, and Pandora finds it deep within herself to make one last wish.

The star lands in the grass, flair of dark hair running into the house to make sense of the wreckage but by then Pandora is already surrounded by wildflowers. A voice made of apples and cinnamon calls her name. She blinks snow from her eyelashes, teeth chattering.

Lily is in front of her, cradling her cheeks. Pandora feels tears, frozen over.

But Lily has never liked to hunt alone, which is why she hasn't had a proper meal in weeks.

The time has come for it though. The hunger has set deep in her body, a bone aching call for blood. All her muscles are tense, ready to kill, and she feels dizzy with the promise of a heady taste on her tongue. She stares at the crowd of dancing bodies, waiting. When a vampire is as desperate for food as she is, they usually don't put a lot of effort into choosing their victim. This is a mistake—Lily has done it before, as all younglings have, but she's been dead for long enough now that she knows nothing will satiate her like a perfect prey.
