You know, it occurs to me that Homestuck is a creation myth about gods who give birth to themselves, and Illya is the ONLY one of there grail children that can't be said to have done so. Amazing. What a terrible little creature she is. I adore her endlessly.

Anyway, Illya has many charming character traits, but her absolute adoration for her friends and family are top of the list, right next to her immense cowardice. The self-conflicted Page of Blood title is a natural fit not only for her immense, world shaking love of Miyu, Chloe and Shiro, nor her literally being a source of life fuel for Chloe, both of which are very Blood behaviours.

She's also just pitiful, absolutely the saddest baby, until she busts out these insane growth curves. Classic pagery.

This is a really basic read that I don't think needs much justifications. Chloe appears during impossible situations to break barriers and let Illya achieve her goals.

Miyu Edelfelt: Bard of Light.

Miyu is also a self manifested god, amazing, what is even happening with these magic cups?? Why do they want so badly to be Real Girls??

Anyway, Miyu is a Bard of Light because she is a channel for ultimate destruction forced into an inconsolately passive role, and worst of all the force is literally just "other people getting constantly really lucky." I mean, damn, girl lost the lottery at birth. Oof.

Bonus the main timeline: adult!Illya is a Bard of Light too; I think being a grail kinda does that to you. Shiro is the Heir of Space because literally there were 3 anime about him inheriting othes people's space powers come on. Rin is a Thief of Heart and a damned good one at that. Sakura simply deserves not to have to play SGAME let the poor child have a break mein Gott (Witch of Void). Saber is a fucking sprite obviously.

“What is wrong with them..?” you groaned, fliping through the pages of the book you were reading, feeling your head start to ache as the main characters were hopelessly in love with each other but both too shy to confess, a very frustrating situation for the point of view of the reader.

Jay who was sat beside you on the couch, teared his eyes away from the television, wondering what was the source of your annoyance. Trying to peak at the ink on the paper that had captivated your attention, you turned your head around, feeling his gaze set upon the object in your hands.

“What are you looking at?”

“Huh? Oh, uh.. just curious on what’s got you groaning”. He aired a faint laugh, feeling like he had been caught lurking.

“These characters are so oblivious, they flirt, they compliment each other on a daily basis, they’re basically glued to each other’s hip every other day..” you continued, babbling about the characters and this too slow of a slow burn for your liking.

Jay found himself starting to loose focus on the words coming out of you, too hypnotized by the way your lips opened and closed quickly as the words urged to escape from you, the way your forehead crinkled out of irritance, by the way your voice seem to drown out every other sound the world decided to make at that moment.

His own facial expression seem to betray him as a smile creeped its way on his face, and he felt his heart warm up as his admiration for you filled him in a way he had never felt for anyone else. You made his eyes sparkle with such a look that could never be accurately described with only words. And only at that moment, did he realize that his said crush on you was so much more, and could only categorized as pure love.

Confidants in P5X

Overall, Confidants in P5X are very similar to how they functioned in P5, but there are a few significant differences. Most notably, Confidants are not associated with particular Arcana, and consist of 20 ranks instead of just ten, though only 10 ranks actually progress their storyline.

Confidants also take much, much longer to rank up. Choosing correct answers in their rank-up events isn't enough; especially later on in the Confidant, it tends to require going places with a Confidant many times, and/or lavish presents worth a lot of points, to actually rank them up. Miyu's Confidant does have bonuses that slightly increase the points granted by gifts.

Another major difference is the Confidant menu:

In order: Merope, Yaoling Li, Motoha Arai, Tomoko Noge, YUI, Kayo Tomiyama, Shun Kanou, Ruferu, Kiyoshi Kurotani, Yuumi Shiina, Ayaka Sakai, Miyu Sahara, Kira Kitazato, Masaki Ashiya. (The UI switched in the game update that added Miyu.)

Besides looking very different, a lot more information is contained in this menu: you can see how close you are to ranking up and if anything is blocking you from ranking up (for instance, needing a higher social stat, or a specific Persona for Merope), check the next major bonus you'll get from them, and there are pages for their favorite presents (the heart icon), all the rewards you'll be able to get throughout their Confidant (the present icon), and information about the character, their thoughts on certain things, and a summary of their Confidant (the file icon; gradually unlocked over the course of the Confidant).

Future Confidants include Toshiya Sumi and Kotone Montagne.

The currently romanceable Confidants are: Yaoling Li, Motoha Arai, Tomoko Noge, Yuumi Shiina, Ayaka Sakai, and Miyu Sahara. Information posts have indicated that Kotone Montagne will also be dateable, and YUI may also have a romance route added later.

A romance route can be started at rank 15. Pursuing a romance with a character alters the rewards you receive from the last few ranks of their Confidant, and also turns the UI for their Confidant page pink and heart-themed. If the Confidant isn't romanceable, or the player chooses not to date them, the UI instead turns blue and star-themed.

Merope, strangely, takes on the UI change from dating a Confidant even though she herself isn't technically dateable (note the rewards in her second screenshot are marked with stars, not hearts). While a choice isn't even given as to whether or not you want to date Merope, Wonder seems to be considered as being in a relationship after reaching rank 15 with her.

An item was added to the game that allows players to swap whether they're romancing or befriending a character after initially making that choice. The associated rewards are also switched by using this.

Motoha, Tomoko, Shun, Kiyoshi, Ayaka, and Masaki are available after school, while Merope, Yaoling, Kayo, and Miyu are available in the evening, and YUI, Yuumi, and Kira are available at night.

Ruferu is currently the only Confidant tied into the story.

Maid Cafe on Electric Street coming to consoles - Gematsu

“Console versions” of Maid Cafe on Electric Street are in development, publisher PLAYISM and developer Adventurer’s Tavern announced. Specific platforms were not announced.

The adventure game was previously announced as launching for PC via Steam this summer—but that window has passed and new release timing has yet to be confirmed by PLAYISM.

The PC version of Maid Cafe on Electric Street will be playable at the Konami booth at Tokyo Game Show 2024, which will run from September 26 to 29 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

The Four Main Girls of Fuwa Fuwa

Shiro – “Um, please be the new manager of the cafe!” A maid who loves Fuwa Fuwa Cafe. A huge otaku for anime and video games, she talks really fast when she’s gushing about the things she loves, and often splurges on merch without thinking whenever she visits an anime shop. A little clumsy, but works hard every day to become the cute maid she’s always wanted to be.

Miyu – “Hey Mr. Manager, thanks a bunch for hanging out with me today~☆” A game otaku and gyaru with a big appetite. Loves both eating and cooking, and apparently really enjoys serving her cooking to customers at Fuwa Fuwa Cafe. Is actually Shiro’s friend on the online game Magic Angel, so they knew each other before actually meeting in real life.

Favna – “I am the Slayer of the False God, the Queen of the Kingdom of Darkness, the All-Seeing Oracle, the Guardian of the Dream of All Things—“ A mysterious girl dressed in gothic Lolita fashion. Speaks in riddles and demands the protagonist become her familiar. She sometimes accidentally drops the edgy act when she’s taken by surprise though, so maybe she’s just got a serious case of chuunibyou…?

Honoka – “Ya want a thrivin’ business? That there sounds like a job for our shrine!” A girl with a Kansaiben dialect who works as a shrine maiden at her family shrine. Practically in charge of the shrine, she is reliable and very good at handling money, and has a strong sense of responsibility to boot. On top of that, she’s also the only glasses girl at Fuwa Fuwa Cafe!

Support Your Maid Cafe Employees as the Manager

As the cafe manager, it’s your job to allocate work to your maids. Make sure to give the right girl the right job! For example, Shiro is always enthusiastic to serve customers, and Miyu is great in the kitchen. Of course, you can’t just sit there while they work. During opening hours, you’ll also have to make coffee and help out on the floor, so it’s not as easy as it sounds!

The Stunning Sights of Nipponbashi

In order to recreate the atmosphere of the real Nipponbashi, the game features several real stores you can find there, such as Surugaya, Sofmap, Dragon Star, Super Potato, and Karaoke Rainbow, among many others. Don’t forget to pay them a visit when you’re shopping or taking one of your maids on a date!

Collectable Capsule Toys

If you’ve been to the real Nipponbashi, you’ll know that there are capsule toy machines all over the area. In this game, you can also try your hand at collecting your favorite capsule toy series and experience that unique gacha thrill of not knowing what you’re getting. As you collect more toys, you can even bring them up in conversations with the girls. Keep cranking those machines until you’ve collected them all!

Syb's 2023 MOTY List!

I had a lot of fun doing this roundup last year! Though it feels like a patchier year than 2022 for great wrestling, there were still a few real standouts that blew my socks clean off. Here's my top 5 recs!

Jay White NJPW Departure Series (Wrestle Kingdom 17 IWGP Heavyweight Belt 04.01.20203, Loser Leaves Japan Match vs. Hikuleo 11.02.2023, Loser Leaves NJPW Match vs. Eddie Kingston 18.02.2023) 

It was so hard to pick a single match from this series so I chose not to. The sequence of these really tells a complete story I was fully glued to in real-time. The IWGP WK match I slept on a little bit because everyone was buzzing over Omega vs. Ospreay, but  I have to say when I finally watched it, it has wormed its way into my brain and has not stopped chewing. The Hikuleo match broke me a little for the last offered too-sweet. And if you forced me to pick a match of the three to recommend, it would be Eddie vs. Jay. There’s something special about Eddie being the man with so much integrity, so much love for puroresu, that he almost made me believe Jay would fight for New Japan and win. I’ll close this by saying it felt really graceful that Jay got to put an endpoint on his time in New Japan, and tell a little story with it. I’m not sure most wrestlers get the chance for whatever reason when their contract ends, but this felt like a beautiful Shakespearean tragedy, and a great way to end a killer run in NJPW.

Yota Tsuji vs. Ren Narita (G1 Climax 33, 18.07.2023) 

The most memorable G1 Climax match for me by a long shot. Physical, deranged, so many gorgeous spots (that I will miss dearly from Narita specifically as he heads off to do…whatever it is that you can call House of Torture spots). I rewatched this three times. I loved the tie booking for the Reiwa Three Muskateers, it made A-block super fun. I was really hopeful after Tsuji’s backstage comments that they’d make a story out of Narita shedding Shibata’s shadow…alas for the booking that wasn’t. 

Saki Akai Retirement Match (Tag match with Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani, vs. Kazusada Higuchi & Naomichi Marufuji & Miyu Yamashita, 12.11.2023) 

There is so much to miss about Saki Akai. Although I honestly and sincerely wish more wrestlers would retire younger and let their bodies rest (or at least do a soft retirement and then come back to do bullshit) – god, I’m going to miss her. She’s been a mainstay on the DDT roster for as long as I’ve been watching and before, and carries the intergender work with unparalleled grace. This match was booked as a unique treat for me; who had an Eruption moment back when Sakaguchi and Higuchi had their singles match, and who loves both Marufuji and Yamashita. 

Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page Texas Deathmatch (AEW Full Gear 18.11.2023) 

TOXIC!!! YAOI!!! DEATHMATCH!! INSANE!!! This match probably would have made it on the list for the “stapling my son’s drawing and then drinking the blood from the wound” spot alone, good god. If people didn’t believe Swerve was a mega-star before this match, they surely do now. Match that made me dissolve into monkey noises, and easily my favourite AEW match this year. 

Mask vs. Mask 5-Way Cage Survival (Dragon Kid vs Shun Skywalker vs Strong Machine J vs Ultimo Dragon vs Diamante, 02.07.2023)

Dragongate is honestly a promotion I’d love to have the time and attention span to carve out some more space for. Luckily I do have puro friends who are willing to catch me up on the dynamics so I can swing by for banger matches like these. And wow, holy shit, this was a cagematch for the age. Pulling on the drama of Dragon Kid who promised the survival of his older mentor Ultimo Dragon – leading into the personal beef of Strong Machine J and Diamante, and crystallizing to another horrible moment from one of wrestling’s best working heels right now, Shun Skywalker. This match had it all!

After assessing the arrangement, Yukiya gasped: it seemed that he saw something like this quite recently. The heir bit his lip. His favourite sword hung on his belt. So everything would be all right. Yukiya winked at the young master. He seemed to have understood the thoughts of the page. Surprise flashed in his eyes.

“Wait,” he said confusedly, and the man decided that these words were addressed to him. …

“Your Highness, come on!” Hanging on the man, Yukiya looked back at the young master. Differences from the anime:

The anime crew tweaked some things from the book. Hatsune’s partner didn’t turn into an afflicted crow with Senningai but just an ordinary Yatagarasu male trying to evade Wakamiya, Yukiya and Koume and, in turn, hurting them instead.

Nazukihiko’s voice (thanks Irino Miyu!), urgent and desperate, commanding Yukiya and Koume to go back inside the house (instead of a busy inn) so he could alone deal with the Sagecap-addicted Yatagarasu.

Hatsune used a knife in the book, not her hairpin.

Sumio and his men apprehended Hatsune and her partner as they tried to escape. In the anime, Sumio, reminiscent of the fourth episode, showed his prowess again by killing the transformed raven form of Hatsune’s partner, who got addicted to Sagecap, in a few blows.

Prompt - Staking

Miyu snickers as she glances at the person groveling at her feet, swearing they won’t say anything against her again.

“Let’s take a gamble! I press the button riiiiiight here on my screen,” She coos, hovering a finger over her screen before throwing up a peace sign, “And you see if you can get out of the school before everyone knows you’re a dirty smoker! Peace~!!”

The person gets up, quickly sprinting. Miyu clicks her tongue and rolls her eyes before pressing the button. The damn ant should know better. She didn’t say go. Her grin twists with glee as she turns to go to the student council room.

“They didn’t even double check what I was threatening to send. I sent out all the videos and pictures an hour ago. Oh well! It’s not my fault!” She chirps to herself.

Finally got Miyu drawn! I should note that her hair won’t always be consistently this style because it is just a blond wig lol. Also I realize her eyes are wonky. By the time I noticed, I had all her makeup down. All on different layers. And each part of the eyes are different layers too. So it’d be too much to adjust lol.
