First pace run in a while
Just 3 miles, but I did 4.1 in total, 1 mile easy to start, 0.1 at the end to cool down.
My easy pace mile was very slow, 10:38. I was very tired the night before, lying down in bed before 9p, though didn't go to sleep until after 10p. Maybe it was the 2 glasses of red wine with dinner, but I don't think so.
I didn't feel great during that first mile, and when I heard Siri say 10 minutes 38 seconds, I was like, oh man, I don't got this. I picked up the pace, didn't really pay attention, just figured it was too slow.
But I ended up doing 8:38 that next mile, then 8:41 on the next one, I wasn't feeling great though. I didn't know what I should do for my final mile. Should I go for 9 on the dot, should I slow up to 9:40 to go for 9 mi/mi pace for the 3 mi? I split the difference and did 9:13.
After working for an hour and a half or so, I felt very hungry. Made myself and egg. Put it on Dave's Killer Bread toast with a slice of colby jack cheese and some guacamole.

Ran my first official pace run of the program, though admittedly, I did one by mistake back in week one.
Before I did the 3-mile pace run, I ran one mile easy, 10:17 pace, I am getting this easy pace down.
I probably need these pace runs to remind myself of what 9-minute mile feels like because I did my first supposed-to-be race pace mile at 8:20. It did feel like I was going too fast at one point, but I wasn't reading my watch correctly and erred on the side of going too fast over too slow.
I did slow down for my second mile nicely, came in at 8:47, closer to what I should be doing.
On the third mile, I checked my rolling mile pace a few times, just making sure it didn't venture too far from 8:47. I remember seeing 8:46 early on, then 8:43, then 8:42 at the halfway mark, at which point I decided to stop checking and just enjoy the last mile. I came it 8:37.
I capped it off with a half mile at an easy 10:05 pace, making it a lovely 41-minute, 4.5-mile run overall.
An hour or so later I was uncharastically hungry for breakfast, and since I was off work, and my wife and I were dropping our youngest off at school before Christmas shopping, I asked her if she wanted to get breakfast as opposed to just coffee. She agreed, and I devoured a 3-egg cheese omelette with meat and veggies, a side of hash browns, and 2 slices of buttered rye toast, plus plenty of coffee, at a diner in Winter Park we'd never tried before.
Our trip to Target later that day was more tiring than my run.

I moved recently to start a new job and part of my commute now involves one of those high capacity toll booths where a two lane road suddenly flares out into 5-7 lanes of total anarchy with no lines anywhere, and then narrows back down to two lanes again, and we're just supposed to sort ourselves out? Who designed this
anyway I dreamed up this helpful anatomical guide on the drive home

tired: Campaign 3 is being unfairly rushed to wrap up and make way for a Daggerheart campaign.
wired: Campaign 3 is fast-paced, plot-heavy, and somewhat more on rails because it's intended to be the culmination of the plot points put into place in the previous two campaigns, which Matt has stated is a long-time dream of his to be able to do.
inspired: Matt is trying to pack as much possible plot into each day because he has no fucking idea what to do if Chetney dies in his sleep.

furthermore, leave jac schaeffer and mary livanos alone. they are the reasons we have this amount of queer rep, queer metaphors and queer coding in the show in the first place. jac filled in front and behind the camera with queer people. mary livanos is queer herself. joe, sasheer and aubrey are all openly queer actors, kathryn hahn has long been an ally for the community and calling this show, which has embraced queer culture so vividly queerbait is frankly ridiculous. hating on it because they centered one episode (out of NINE) on the gay teenage boy is even more ridiculous.
representation means all of us. it's not one vs the other. it's ALL of us.

An important "do differently" for me this time around has to be doing the interval and pace runs I haven't previously been so dedicated to doing.
Tuesday's run was my first of this program, a "5x400 5k pace" and I am pretty sure I didn't do it correctly.
I jogged for a minute or so to warm up. Then I ran the quarter mile intervals at in 2 to 2:10, essentially 8 to 8:40 min/mi pace, walking briefly in between. Then I ran a 5k at a 9 minute per mile pace. All in all it was a nice 4.7 mile, 45 minute workout.
At the time, it felt good, it felt like I was taking control of my situation. It felt meaningful, like I was giving meaning to this process of taking control of something in my life. Everything in my life was the sandstorm swirling around me, but for those 45 minutes, I was in control.
I came home reread the website to see if that was what I was supposed to do. The next day I starting typing this blog post and re-reread it and finally realized I was doing it wrong. I think the 400s should be at my 5k pace, so 8 min/mi pace I reckon. And that's it, that's the workout.
This more closely resembles fartleks that I've done in the past, jog for 10 minutes, then alternate 30 second sprints with 3 minute jogging. So next time I will likely jog for 10 minutes beforehand then do the 400 intervals as bit faster, 2 minutes at the most, then try to jog in between vs. walking since this is the whole workout. Since there are 6 400s next time, those plus a mile warmup and the jogging in between, maybe get 3 miles out of it.
But for now I am happy for my mistake of a run. I enjoyed it.
