racquet vs racket - what's the difference?

in the books people play exy with 'racquets' — sometimes in posts and stories, people will spell it as 'racket' instead. they're the same thing in concept, but i'm curious if people make a distinction between the words out loud!

feel free to describe how u say them in the tags!!

for me: racquet - ra-KET [ɹæ'ket], word stress is on the 2nd syllable. (this stems from the british pronunciation of racquet, which i mentally associate with this spelling)

racket - RA-kit ['ɹækıt], word stress is on the 1st syllable. (said with the a sound in 'apple')

When I say devastated, I'm not exaggerating.

When we started these I literally said 'these have to be perfect because if they're not, the fandom will riot'

And I was right.

Rightfully so, of course. This set was expensive. International buyers especially because they had to pay so much more in shipping. I don't blame them.

When I made the joke post about Andrew being listed as a backliner, that was the only issue I was aware of and on my AFTG Twitter timeline people were joking about how mad he'd be and I posted it thinking it'd ease any tension. When we announced the series I was posting in the same manner and bantering with people about the series, and thought this would be the same. I wouldn't have posted it if I'd known how many other issues there were. Either way I was wrong and the guilt I feel over making this situation worse is eating me alive.

I created content for this fandom for years. I've made incredibly close friends. It saved me in a lot of ways. The love I have for those people and these books and Nora is soul deep, and I wanted to badly to give something back to the fandom that gives me so much joy. To think people think there was no care or thought put into these is soul crushing. I understand not everyone will like them. That's just the business. But we worked alongside Nora to try our best to bring really beautiful editions for people, including checking in with my AFTG circle to get opinions on design.

I'm so incredibly sorry. I'm so sorry for the post that was insensitive about the whole thing. I'm sorry for the mistakes. I'm sorry these were less than perfect. I'm sorry people who haven't even gotten their books yet are already disappointed in them. I'm not trying to make excuses here. There are none. We fucked up and we have to have accountability for that because we HAVE to learn from this. Our readers are priority number one and we let them down in the worst way.

We're going to make it right the best way we can, and I know some people will still be mad. Again, I don't blame them. We're not a rich company. We have 5 employees that all handle different aspects of the business, and between paying them, the artists, printing, etc we actually don't make all that much on the boxes. But income isn't the point of Rainbow Crate. It's to bring queer books to more people and to help authors to create the editions they want to see in the world.

That's all I guess. I hope we can make this right for everyone and not just for the dust jackets. For anyone who has any sort of other damage issue with the books.

Probably, you think I'll start talking about my favourite characters, her engaging writing or who I feel most connected to.

No, not today. Right now I want to thank Nora for listening and hearing the Ukrainian fans of the All for the game.

Here’s a story. We wanted her books in Ukrainian for YEARS (and yes, even now, during the war, people read and absorb content, for me personally this is one of a few escapes), but the company that had the rights to distribute books to the international market has ruzzian roots and it is impossible to say what percentage of sales could ultimately go to taxes in ruzzia = new missiles in Ukraine. And I said “had”, because Nora heard our fears and desires, and took the rights out, and now she’s directly collaborating with the Ukrainian publishing house - Nebo Booklab Publishing. Moreover, she will donate her royalties to Ukrainian charitable organisations.

And you know, after seeing the biggest kids hospital in Kyiv being attacked a few days ago, it’s the first nice news I’ve had. Praying that we wouldn’t have another strikes to the publishing facilities and less energy outrages, so it’s all goes smoothly for them.

So, my dears, another edition of AFTG awaits us with incredible covers and a bunch of new merch. The release is planned for next year.

and aiya advice for fic writers huh. i dont know if my advice is worth much if anything at all but from the top of my head here are some things ive picked up over the years that will hopefully serve someone somewhere

presentation actually matters!!!! a properly formatted fic is not only delicious to read but also helps with keeping you in the story, i know this because i am a bad formatter (so sorry) and whenever i go through my fics and see a mistake i'm immediately taken out of it! just make sure it's easy to read and you have formatted it to the best of your abilities

brevity is the soul of wit. unfortunately. this is by no means i'm advocating for only short sentences (we all love tangents!) but i think it is good to vary on sentence length and save your longer lines for things that are important to note down! this image has been going around for years now but i still think its one of the most helpful pieces of writing advice ive ever seen

side characters are your best friends!!!!! i think as fanfic writers sometimes we want to get to the point and focus only on our mains, but it does add a lot of flavor and texture when you have small storylines happening along with your main plot, especially if you're doing an in-depth character study. life exists even when we're not seeing it!!!! give your side characters interesting stories and relationships!!!!

writing is about FUN and your questions regarding your storyline should never be "what is the most logical thing that could happen now?" but "what is the most interesting thing that could happen now?". this is a sin aftg fans commit the most when talking about aftg but i am here to tell you that no plot is too ambitious. nothing is so out there that you can't write about it! no concept is too wacky! interesting should come first; you worry about the logic in later edits. most readers are more willing to forgive an interesting plot with technical problems than they are willing to forgive a boring story that is perfect writing-wise

no i think that makes a lot of sense. in my mind, aftg (and that story about neil and the foxes) is done. it doesn't need to be added to. BUT i think, as someone who has read the extra content, there is not really a fear that she will hit me with something in tsc that i don't already know? i mean i already know some details of what happens one year, three years, several years post aftg. and while i might not vibe with everything she revealed all these years back, i don't think nora can ruin aftg if she mentions some of that stuff. we don't know how faithful to her old statements she will be tho....maybe she'll turn them on their heads idk. i don't believe she will do that. but. we don’t know. so yeah i don't think you are insane!!! i honestly don't think tsc will have much about the foxes in it. maybe a game or something? cannot imagine she has the time for more than small cameos and references. maaaaybe there will be some more renee. depending on how nora will play this. but. we'll see. i, for one, am both very very excited and scared to find out jsdhsjhjs

it sounds cocky but i usually know how things will generally go when i post -- only because im seeking something specific haha. HOWEVER, i wrote giddy up as a total joke. its first person POV of a very silly scene that gets a one-line mention in AFTG. and as you know, im p comfortable in first person bc its our love language in the Simon Snow world! but AFTG people were shook that they were enjoying first person, and i was surprised by how much people got into the fic. once again, my attempts at pure crack fic were unsuccessful. i gotta stop sprinkling angst in there LOL

🪄what is your post-writing/sharing aftercare? How do you take care of yourself or celebrate yourself when you've finished a fic?

i almost always post right before i go to bed, so that i can't mill around and wait for that first hit/kudos/comment! im lucky, ive got quite a few subscribers that are a like 6+ hours ahead of me, and a couple ppl have usually dropped some feedback by the time i wake up <3

i usually read whatever i posted the next day, too. and i ban myself from editing it lol. i think thats a celebration -- im reading it as others would, and trying to enjoy it the way i want people to. esp bc i usually write things bc i want them to exist, so it should be a good time for me to read it!
