17. Who says I love you first?

Kunigami, in nearly every scenario. He's too honest to keep it to himself. Conversely, Chigiri's more guarded, so even if he falls in love first, he'd wait until he's certain before admitting his feelings so boldly.

With AikuSen, it's a drawn out process. Sendou would be too insecure to admit his feelings to someone he knows fools around casually, even where he and Aiku are dating exclusively. I personally headcanon Aiku as somewhat emotionally avoidant, and perhaps freaking out about feeling for Sendou on a deeper level. That said, I think Aiku would accept the risk of heartbreak and say I love you first.

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Let's be real, it's only ever Kunigami making lunches for the princess ❤️ I think he'd write corny jokes to make Chigiri laugh or roll his eyes. Puns in particular, since Chigiri likes wordplay. He probably Googles them specifically.

Aiku and Sendou don't strike me as big lunch makers, but Aiku would probably include notes of encouragement, like Knock 'em dead today, ace. Sendou reads them and cringes (but secretly enjoys them).

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first? & 20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Answering these together as they compliment one another!

Kunigami tells his family first, casually mentioning that he's dating Chigiri. Chigiri's mom and sister wrangle the news out of him after seeing him post a suspiciously couple-y photo with Kunigami on social media. Both families are supportive, particularly the sisters.

Literally none of Kunigiri's friends would be surprised. If anything, they're surprised it took this long to happen.

Aiku tells his family first, although he'd probably take his time to do so. I'm guessing they'd be pretty chill about it—his dad is Swedish-German and fairly liberal, as is his mom. Sendou would worry that his folks would respond negatively to him dating a man. To his surprise, that's not an issue so much as him dating a known cheater / womaniser. Aiku charms them though as soon as they meet him, and reassures them he's not going to hurt Sendou.

There's mixed responses from their friend group. The original U20 teammates would find it hilarious, given how much both of them emphasised dating women in their early careers. Anyone from their days in Ubers sees them getting together a mile off.

29. one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart

Kunigiri are overall so wholesome, there's little to report on this front! But the idea of Chigiri being the first (and maybe only) person Kunigami is willing to talk about Wild Card pulls on my heartstrings.

For AikuSen, what gets me is Sendou's inevitable meltdown when he realises he's started to catch feelings for Aiku. I headcanon Sendou doesn't have the self esteem to believe he has enough worth for Aiku to be exclusive with him. Internalised homophobia (or biphobia?) also packs a punch with these two.

there are so many excellent danharry moments and storylines across all nine seasons, but here are my (very painstakingly selected) top five danharry episodes in chronological order:

1. S3E9-10 The Wheels of Justice (Part 1 + 2)

every time i think about this episode i go fully insane charlie kelly standing in front of the pepe silvia conspiracy board style. admittedly the first episode doesn't give us a lot of danharry content beyond harry smiling super fondly at dan while dan screams at bull's tiny tv, but the SECOND episode. jesus CHRIST. dan talking harry out of his slump in that pool hall........'you were good, harry! very good. you were impartial. you were fair. passionate. compassionate. understanding. and i admired you.'............dan hugging harry after harry apologized and said he would come back to court........the way harry and dan looked at each other after harry's line about taking the good with the bad no matter how bad the bad gets...........dan's smile while harry tells mac that dan is the only reason he left the pool hall..........and then. of course. this.

what is their DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. S4E1 The Next Voice You Hear...

'emily,' night court nation says. 'this is not a danharry-centric episode.' you are correct! 'then why is this on your list?' because after harry found out his mother was dead, mac's first instinct was to call dan, and dan dropped whatever he was doing to come and console harry. they're best friends!!!!!!!!! and i cry about it Every Day

3. S4E5-6 Dan's Operation (Part 1+2)

this is THE danharry episode. every other danharry episode go home (except please don't, you're all wonderful). seriously though if someone told me when i first started watching night court that harry would fall asleep on a comatose dan's chest after begging him to wake up (AFTER they had a huge argument earlier in the episode) and dan's first instinct upon waking up is to stroke harry's hair and also Not Move Or Say Anything Because Harry Is Sleeping and THEN they would have ANOTHER argument that ended in both of them saying 'i love you' to each other, i would have died on the spot. and then i watched these episodes and i DID die on the spot. larroquette won his third emmy award for his performance in these eps and it is extremely well deserved.

4. S5E14 I'm OK, You're Catatonic/Schizophrenic

a danharry episode that raises more questions than it answers. what do you mean dan just randomly took a nap on harry's conference table. what do you mean dan kidnapped mel torme for harry. what do you mean dan said re: his kidnapping of mel torme '[harry's] gonna kiss me on the lips for this'. what do you MEAN dan handcuffed mel torme to a chair using 'a trick harry taught him' with 'magic shackles' that HE KNOWS CHAFE and WHAT DO YOU MEAN HARRY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE MAGIC SHACKLES AT ALL. SO WHAT WAS DAN TALKING ABOUT. someday i will get a ouija board so i can talk to reinhold weege from beyond the grave and ask him hey man!!! what was up with this episode!!!!!!!!! and also harry destroying dan's car in retaliation for dan accidentally destroying his mel torme record collection (on top of harry strangling dan upon receiving the news and also screaming I'M GOING TO EAT THAT MAN'S EYEBROWS) is proof that these two match each other's freak like no one else and that's why they should be endgame, thank you and good night.

5. S5E22 + S6E1-2 Danny Got His Gun (Parts 1-3)

1980s sitcoms were operating on a whole other level because if even an iota of this plotline happened to one of my otps on any of my currently airing shows the entire fandom would burst into flames. dan is presumed dead!!! his plane goes down north of hudson bay!!! and harry is the first one to receive the news!!! and the first one to receive further telegrams from the army and also dan's belongings!!! in his will dan left harry his 'heartfelt gratitude'!!! harry had to plan dan's memorial service!!! he had to write dan's eulogy!!! he had to sit there and watch everyone in attendance including the funeral director (barring roz) not be able to say a single nice thing about his best friend!!! then said best friend CRASHES HIS OWN MEMORIAL SERVICE!!! dan is alive!!! he has a beard!!! he smells awful!!! which i will maintain to my last breath is the only thing that prevented harry from kissing the breath out of dan right there in the funeral home!!! they!!! looked!!! at!!! each!!! other!!! like!!! this!!!

LEXINGTON LAWMEN LET'S GO

Art

How I feel about this character: he's ... all right! i think he's perfect for his role in the show and he's got some nice little details (the hearing aids, his relationship with leslie & family, etc) and he has some great lines. S2's Blaze of Glory is FASCINATING for him and is my favorite Art episode ... that ending with Frank!! dksjfks both sad and funny and wow what an entirely human true neutral way to approach the outlaw VS lawman cat and mouse dynamic 10/10 no notes. we also get some interesting glimpses at his inner darkness + capacity for violence in him that's ... hm now that's very interesting (that time he smacked Boyd with the bible, the interrogation with the phonebook, him decking Raylan, etc) but i think overall he falls too much in line with the "Police Chief" character archetype. since Justified is a western masquerading as a police show, Art should have felt more like a sheriff but he didn't. Raylan was the sheriff of the show. though as Justified always does with their characters they gave Art a lot more personality and layers than LEO shows usually give their big boss characters. i also LOVE that Art's hope and trust in Raylan is FOREVER dashed and is never repaired during the show, such a great twist on what usually happens with the chief and their cowboy subordinate.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: ...well...i wouldn't call it "romantic" but i think we deserve at least one fucked up gross Art/Tim dead dove daddy issues smut fic, as a treat (for me) 🤡

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Art & Raylan. his odd almost-surrogate father/son dynamic where he literally disowns Raylan during the show is goddamn great and i never tire of it on rewatches of the show. i really wish we'd see it explored more in fic.

My unpopular opinion about this character: i don't think there's enough opinions on Art for anything said about his character to be unpopular, but ... i think Art had one gay experience when he was younger like @praycambrian's Art and stanley tucci fic is just canon to me.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: more Art & Tim interaction!! remember when Tim gets mouthy and bratty and Art verbally lays into him with a DON'T BE A SMART ASS??!! yeah i needed to have more of Tim toe-ing the chain of command and Art putting him back behind the line, please.

Rachel

How I feel about this character: she's cool! i like Rachel, but i don't love Rachel. she's just too prim and professional and filling the role of The Lawful Good Lawman to spark any fandom brainworms in me. she has my respect though. i still adored her place within the show, however. badass lady black marshal that's good at her fucking job and doesn't backdown in the face of assholes!! get it. the ways she was able to clap back on racist bullshit without the writers falling down a preachy rabbit hole for her was also chef's kiss.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Rachel/OMC and Rachel/Raylan as a treat (for her). sorry lesbian or bi Rachel truthers, that's a straight woman. in my head, after Rachel becomes the Seattle marshal she begins seeing a black man who works some sort of legal practice job with a divorce under his belt as well. they eventually married and live as Dog Parents Ever After 😌

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Rachel & Nick. loved her relationship with her nephew, she's done right by him and stepped up for her family i think Nick is going to be okay, i really think he's going to end up happy and Rachel structure & support is a big part of that.

My unpopular opinion about this character: the best Rachel fic(s) in existence is connect the dots by larkingstock. i don't care that it's Rachel/Tim fic btw once upon a time i read all the Tim fics that existed on the internet and that's how i discovered this brilliant Rachel-centric fic. never read a fic that shines such a spotlight on her sexuality, her emotions, and her wishes before while givng her a real narrative voice. also, the writing quality and style is romance novel level. 10/10 no notes.

not a fan of the Rachel & Tim bestie agenda. respectfully, they are work colleagues at best but i prefer Rachel filling a former mentor & then a boss role to Tim. he calls her ma'am with a little too much respect for them to be true pals.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: what the fuck happened with her divorce!! hello?? we only had a QUICK PEEK into Rachel's tragic & chaotic family life (dad dead from cancer, troubled sister dead, co-raising her nephew with her mother??!!) and i desperately wish we'd gotten a follow-up on what was going on there. our gal had hidden depths and i wanted to see more. they dropped the ball with the lawmen side of the plots in season 5/6 so we were also denied a deeper look at Rachel being the acting chief RIP :(

Tim

How I feel about this character: i'm not normal about this dude :) he's my blorbo my fan favorite my ascended supported character my baby boy my lil man timmy guts slutterson my gay ranger sniper deputy marshal lawman heart of my heart apple of my eye!! i just think he's neat. everything we see about him in canon spurs a hundred and zillion headcanons in my head, can never stop thinking about him. he's a character i project hard on and i love working out my various personal issues by tormenting him with them. ty for your service 'lil mister.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: everything he's my little black dress of the fandom. givenson, mostly. but also boyd/raylan/tim, boyd/tim, colt/tim, boyd/colt/tim, quarles/tim. i even ship him in things that has no tag yet. where is the wynn duffy/tim fic?! i need dan/raylan/tim in miami fic!!

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Tim & Mark. i liked the canon portrayal for them and don't find it romantic or sexual at all. i really do think they were just war buddy pals.

My unpopular opinion about this character: he would not have been out as a gay man circa 2010. i sometimes ... feel ... his service history & career as a LEO isn't factored into fic characterizations and how that's gonna fuck up his ability to accept himself as a gay man and how that might even give him a hostile relationship with the LGBT community at large. i will never i cannot personally vibe with smoothing down the sharp points of Tim's characterization and history to make him more palatable to a younger audience. i don't care for queernorm-ing and the soft boy aesthetics.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that they spent SO MUCH time setting up his powder-keg arc and then did a whole bunch of nothing with it. we should have seen him BLOW sky high (and should have seen him blowing other men who said that).

Raylan

How I feel about this character: i'm normal about him (lying through my teeth). i love raylan, okay?? he makes me bonkers in a variety of different ways. he's my comfort character!! thinking about him comforts me.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: givenson, mainly. i also ship him with boyd in a very very VERY selective way AKA it has to be toxic and weird and dom4dom. also love putting him with both Boyd and Tim at once ala Crowgivenson. i also wrote the only Dan/Raylan fic but also took it down a while back, still ship them hardcore though only way to explain why Dan is so fucking fond of Raylan.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Raylan & Loretta. no she is NOT his daughter and those are not a parent/child dynamic. Raylan sees HIMSELF in Loretta, he is being the protective supportive adult to her that HE needed as a child. helping her heals his inner wounded child. Loretta is a mirror to a younger Raylan with a twist of female trauma. it's a funhouse mirror into his past.

My unpopular opinion about this character: he's a daddy dom sorry to the haters but that's what he is in my heart. me and the other justies into that are gonna keep being happy about it in our corner of the fictional sandbox 🖤

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: don't like the becoming a dad plotline, sorry. his romance with winona was eye-roll more to me and when they had winona get pregnant i put my face in my palms and groaned. wish it hadn't happened and they had given him a juicy career focus instead. the only saving grace to the whole dad thing is how both Justified and JCP stayed true to Raylan's character and portrayed him as being a crappy father.

What is your OTP for your character(s)?

Man, I don’t know. If Chiyori can get someone who cares as much about her as she cares about them, then I’m good. If she’s in a relationship where she’s wanted rather than needed, then that's absolute gold for me. ✨

Even in a soulmate au I made her soulmateless specifically for that purpose. Also, because I wanted Chiyori to discover that no one is more perfect for her than herself, but I'm not sure if she's insightful enough to realize that, lmao. Aaah, and the pain too. I also decided for her to be soulmateless because I don’t understand the concept of soulmates, lmfao. (Not anymore at least).

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

To me personally, as long as both parties are in similar stages of physical matureness I won’t care too much, I think? It's fiction after all. Like, someone at the age of 50 with someone at the age 18, I don’t mind too much, because they’re both likely to be past puberty. Both would be in their fully-developed adult bodies. (These talks always remind me of Leonardo DiCaprio’s relationships, lmfao).

However, someone above age 16 with someone at the age of 10 is when I feel things would get kind of weird? Because it’s extremely likely that the 10-year-old hasn’t even hit puberty yet. Don’t bash me for it, but I’d love to witness a well-written dynamic like that. One would have to have the balls to publish something like that, and be a genius too for crafting a dynamic like that that works. Honestly, I think it could make sense in more of a coming-of-age story! Anything else would be creepy, but maybe I’m just too close-minded to be able to imagine otherwise.

my thoughts: it's so farfetched and we know about five people combined that they've canonically interacted with, I mean they weren't even in the same series since Son of Magic takes place between the lost hero and the son of neptune which make it apart of the HoO. It's literally perfect because that means we can do basically whatever we want with their relationship LMAOO

What makes me happy about them: chaotic bfs who insult each other 24/7 but would literally beat the shit out of anyone who said the same thing and would die for each other

What makes me sad about them: ethans dead(canonically😒) and with the whole kronos betrayal thing at the end of tlo, al would probably drop kick ethan

What’s your favorite trait of this character? very hard question. i think my answer is that i love how sad she is. specifically i love the way that was communicated to us - we saw things through her narration for two books, then the first time we saw her from the outside, not only was she totally fucked up from The Horrors but she was also stripped bare of the obfuscation of her own narration. she's always been sad but she was hiding it from us. i also love her sense of humor and how much she cares about things, but those are both the same as the first thing. runner-up: her angina dentata. yes that's what i'm calling it. as of right now.

well, the first thing i'm going to say is - according to the people, here is your answer. charles bottoms 98% of the time, whereas pierre is 100% a switch. so it would usually be pierre tops and charles bottoms, but very occasionally, they switch it up. 👌

and you know what, i agree. the piarlies have excellent taste 😌 in my headcanons, yep, pierre tops, 9 times out of 10. to me, he just gives such cocky, confident top energy most of the time - he's all "yep, i have a big cock, and i know what to do with it" BDE. sometimes, though. sometimes he can just be such an incredible little shit, and so infuriating, but in the cutest way possible. "baby brother mode activated," as i like to call it - because he knows he's annoying, but he also knows he can get away with it, because he knows exactly how cute he is. at times like these, i feel like he just needs to be pushed up against a wall and kissed stupid. or maybe bent over a table and --[gunshots]

and as for charles - well, i mean, if you just look at charles interacting with any other man... he's not a top. or at least, not usually. he's got the biggest babygirl/pillow princess/bottom energy i have ever seen in a professional athlete, lmfao. (i adore him for it.) i do also think, though, that charles is not 100% a bottom. i mean, hell, he's a race-car driver, and he's said it himself that he can be a control freak. so i feel like sometimes - but only sometimes! - that translates into bed, and he wants to be in control. he's also fit enough (thanks for the proof, ferrari thirst traps) that he's definitely strong enough to push pierre up against things and hold him down, if he really wants to. but that's the exception, not the rule. most of the time, he's more than happy to lie back and be taken apart 😌 which works out very well, because pierre loves to top if it's charles beneath him. match made in heaven <3

to be completely honest with you, i don't think either of them would do this with a great deal of success - purely because i don't think either of them are the very best of cooks. charles, as we know, is very proud of the fact that he can do a good pasta. but... that's also about all he can do 😆 and pierre is not a lot better, lmao. in fact, in my headcanon, his culinary skills are limited to a fry-up. so if either of them were to wake up suddenly and ravenously hungry at night, i think they'd be more likely to raid the fridge/pantry and eat whatever they can find, diets notwithstanding.

and as for who would do it for who - well, i feel like charles sleeps like the absolute dead, lmao, and takes about twenty-odd minutes to wake up properly. the chances of him being coherent enough to do anything for pierre at 2am are incredibly low. pierre, on the other hand, is probably one of those people who gets massive bursts of energy late at night. so i'm just imagining an exhausted charles trailing after a hyper pierre, trying not to fall asleep on his shoulder as pierre raids the fridge... 🥺 that is an INCREDIBLY cute image, actually, and i kind of love it. yep! that's my answer. charles would wake up at 2am and stagger down to the kitchen with pierre, but he'd be a lot less helpful and a lot more sleepy and cute. and then they would probably end up making out on the counter, because charles is just too adorable when he's all soft and sleepy like that, and pierre can't help himself. midnight snack forgotten in favour of... well, midnight dessert. heh. needless to say, that's sleeping done for the evening.

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

oooooohhh, this is a fab one! and fair warning... i fucking LOVE to talk about characterisation/how these two are foils for each other, so *ahem* buckle yourself in, because this is going to be a long one.

the first point i want to talk about is a bit of a depressing one, but it's also one that i feel is very crucial to their characters. it's all about how they handle loss - and i touched on it a little bit here, when i was talking about hiding their emotions/the other being able to tell anyway. but i want to go into a bit more depth here: especially on charles. because i feel like charles is someone who has lost so much - and yet, he manages to do almost unbelievable things (like win an f2 race) right after terrible loss (his father passing away.) to me, this is a crucial part of who he is. he is able to compartmentalise incredibly effectively - he has to be, otherwise there's no way he'd still be able to race after everything he's lost. he has also said in interviews that he's all about living in the moment, and knowing how lucky he is that he gets to be where he is. so, yeah. charles is someone who handles loss by compartmentalising it, and then not dwelling on it in favour of focusing on what he does have, instead.

pierre, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. like i said in that linked post, he has a tendency to overthink, and get lost in his own head about things. if he makes a mistake, he's likely to replay it, and agonise over it to the point that it becomes worse and worse. this is, of course, the exact opposite to charles, who doesn't dwell on mistakes or losses. he just moves on to the next thing he can control - which is both a good thing, and sometimes less good, because there are times in which you need to take the time to process. so i feel like their personalities complement each other incredibly well in that aspect: when pierre overthinks too much, charles is there to ground him and help him let it go/live in the moment for a little while. at the same time, pierre is there to remind charles that it's okay to let himself overthink, just once in a while, to help him process. and since they've known each other for so long, i think they've helped each other like this a lot of times. so, yeah. that's a beautiful point of complimenting personalities there.

another point of characterisation i want to talk about is their sibling status! anyone with siblings knows alllll the sibling clichés, lmao - but the thing about clichés is they're often rooted in truth. charles is a middle child, and middle children are often the ones struggling with self-doubt and a lack of self-confidence because their older sibling gets all the praise. now, i don't think this is quite the case for charles, but then again, he did grow up in both lorenzo AND jules' shadows. that can't have been easy, and charles has confirmed in that f1 "when we were young" documentary that he's always struggled to believe in himself. we see it today still - when something goes wrong, he will always blame himself. when it goes right, he will thank the team, not himself. argh. my heart. but anyway. to contrast this with pierre! pierre, now, is a completely different story. he's a youngest child - the absolute baby of his family - and also, per that one biography of his, the "glue" that keeps the entirety of the gasly family together. he's very much adored there, and i can just imagine him being spoiled rotten, lmao. the result of this is that he has a whole fuck-ton of self-confidence, and that he's also quite used to getting his way.

clearly, this contrasts quite sharply with charles, and i can imagine them clashing over it, every so often. maybe pierre can be a little too cocky and energetic and/or needy when charles just needs a little more time to feel more settled and less self-doubting. however - and pierre and charles' own interviews support me here - i don't think they actually clash, as in fight, all that often. actually, they have said that they agree on almost everything, and very rarely argue. so, yeah. while i can imagine small, bitchy fights if they're both stressed, and getting on each other's nerves, i don't really think that they would get into very big blow-ups. also? they just care about each other too much to truly be petty. and they understand each other, so, again, it's easy to resolve fights and forgive each other. 💜

ahhh, and i could talk about characterisation for literal hours more, but i shall force myself to stop, because i do still need to get some work done today 🥲 one last little point before i go, though: another way in which i think pierre and charles are beautifully complimentary is in their shared sense of humour. i am going to link you to two videos to prove my case: here we have a tiny sauber!charles laughing his babygirl head off at jokes and puns that really aren't even funny. and here we have an equally tiny toro rosso!pierre, also giggling like crazy at dad jokes that definitely aren't that amusing. my conclusion? they share the same terrible sense of humour, and that's probably why we always, always see them laughing and giggling together. and you know how the saying goes: boyfriends who laugh together, stay together :DD <3

Why I like love him: Let me set this up appropriately. I saw A New Hope for the first time when I was teenager. But I was already a HUGE fan of Harrison Ford LONG before that (it continues to this day. I STILL unapologetically love Cowboys and Aliens because it has Harrison, horses, and aliens. Literally three of my favorite things). It started with Indiana Jones when I was like 7, and grew from there. I had a VHS collection of Harrison Ford movies that my family enjoyed adding to for Christmas and birthdays. So, I was BOUND to love Han Solo. But I love him for more than that. I love him because he's funny and snarky and plays the perfect "I'm not a nice guy. I'm mean. I'm tough. I'm a baddie," and then does the exact opposite of all of that. His best friend is a giant Sasquatch, he pretty much falls for Luke (either platonically or romantically, I don't care how you read it) instantly, humors a crazy old man, and drives Leia absolutely INSANE (and she drives him insane right back). I just think he's neat. He's the quintessential scoundrel with the heart of gold. And he just gets better and better the more we get to know him, through the movies, through Solo, and especially through the Legends books (I actually thought he was really well written in the Princess and the Scoundrel, too, and, other than how much they bickered throughout the book, it felt more like a Legend book than I anticipated). I even love him in The Force Awakens, even if I don't think he'd ever run away from Leia because shit got hard.

Why I don't like him: Once again, it isn't the character that I don't like. It's the writing. And they did him dirty in the sequels. The sequels are dead to me. Long live Legends!

Favorite scene: Tough one, because I like him so much. I really love him and his swagger when they get to Cloud City. I love how happy he is when Leia rescues him. I love the whole rescue scene from Jabba's sail barge. And I love how dumb and sweet he is when Leia says of course she loves Luke. He's her brother! He's SO adorable and sweet in that moment.

Favorite movie: I mean, Empire Strikes Back is my favorite for many reasons, in large part because Han is so Han.

Favorite Line: "A Jedi Knight?! Geez, I'm out of it for a little while and everyone gets delusions of grandeur!" Honorable mention to the whole "It's true. All of it" speech in TFA (yes, I know I just said the sequels are dead to me, but there are still parts and lines I love). I love that because he's in the same space he was when he first started this journey and was talking about hokey religions. I love that he became a believer.

Favorite outfit: There isn't a whole lot of variety in his outfits, but I love everyone's Hoth looks, especially his. Probably because he growls "Then I'll see you in HELL!" when he goes to rescue Luke. It's pretty hot. I don't know, man. Harrison Ford is my jam.

OTP: DUH. Leia.

Headcanon: Han talks to himself, a lot, and found himself CONSTANTLY arguing with himself once he was in the midst of Skywalker/Kenobi chaos. He was constantly trying to talk himself out of things and then was like "here ya go, you dumb nerfherder. Off to save the princess/farmboy/the rebellion ONCE AGAIN. LIKE YOU ALWAYS DO." Chewie absolutely knows he talks to himself, and hears it, but leaves him be. He knows his guy needs to think out loud for moral dilemmas, even though he doesn't get why these are moral dilemmas.

Unpopular opinion: Is there such a thing? How can you be mad about Han??

A wish: Give me another Solo movie, damnit! And EK Johnston better not be mean to him in her new Qi'ra novel.

An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen: Well, like Satine, he's dead in canon. That was my oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen moment. Maybe these days it would be that they don't deep fake a young Han like they did with Luke.

Ok, without any personal spoilers, Ochako and All Might for the character breakdown!

Lmao it turns out I had a lot to say on them so I put it under the cut :) Thank you for the ask!!

How I feel about this character: I love her so much!! I wish I posted more about her, but she has such a special place in my heart. Her very first scene gave me a wonderful first impression because she started out helping Midoriya, but she was still pretty awkward. Give me a character who's incredibly sweet and helpful but not the most charismatic and I'm in lol! Even though I knew they were setting up for love interest-ing, she was always her own person first -- yeah people talk shit about feminine characters needing to be “tough” to make them cool, but even before she showed her kickass side, she was beloved by being the sweet, pink, girly friend. Little by little I’ve seen my high school self in her, and so her moments of strength and optimism always hit a bit different. On a silly note, I'm also sappy that we look similar: I had like 6 family members see the art of her on my phone case and go "aw is that you?" 

-All the people I ship romantically with this character: My favorite ship for her is definitely with Iida! It's already clear what good friends they are, they'd make a really sweet pair ;-; They'd compliment each other in many ways, which I'm always a sucker for. I am not immune to the art with her and Asui -- I can see that being such a cute relationship. And I'm honestly not against her ending up with Midoriya (which is likely what will happen lol)! I mean, he definitely has a Lot going on between him and several of the boys asdfgbh but I think the two of them are real good for each other.

-My non-romantic OTP for this character: Todoroki :D I've seen so much content of them as the best of friends and it never fails to hit me right in the heart.

-My unpopular opinion about this character: I'll be honest, I don't know the typical fandom takes on her, so idk where this would fall? I think her parallels with Toga are amazing and I genuinely hope they can be on good terms in the end. The parallel gets a weird vibe because their similarities started with "had a crush on a boy," but I believe they're similar in a lot more ways, and it would be really beautiful to see them connecting and growing because of those...

-One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I haven't seen the really new stuff so maybe they do bring it up, but I always wanted more about her reason for becoming a hero! I think her original reason – making money for her family – was extremely noble, but I wonder if she ever questions it as the situations get more dire (aka, "why am I doing something this dangerous if I'm doing all this for my family? I can't help them if I'm dead...) Or have her motivations changed after being with 1A this long? When exactly did she notice they changed?

-How I feel about this character: adfghh I fucking love this dude! I was so suspicious of him season one, but he's such a cool and unique character -- and just a funny guy 😂 He starts off larger than life (both in canon and to the audience) and little by little becomes such a real and normal man who’s trying his best in that world. He’s so aware of this character he’s playing, but not crushed by the burden because he’s the one that did it on purpose (unlike most hero stories where they’re forced into the savior role), and yet he is sorta crushed by it as time goes on! He loves the Symbol and can’t escape but doesn’t want to escape and that’s so cool.

-All the people I ship romantically with this character: I could never get into any of the ships with him, unfortunately. I don't know exactly what it is, but I can never see him dating, much less settling down with the way he is.

-My non-romantic OTP for this character: I really like him and Aizawa! They have a fun contrast of introvert/extrovert, public symbol/hates the spotlight, doing this for years/never taught a class before now – but they have so many similarities that bring them together in the end. They both live such crazy lives, it’s so nice to see them as reliable teacher friends ;-; I don't think you've gotten to it yet, but they have a beautiful moment talking about motivation to live that solidified their relationship for me.

-My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t see him as Midoriya's dad 😅 I see so many things ranging from making him a dad figure to literally shipping him with Inko to make him part of the family. It's sweet, but I just feel like he fulfills a different relationship/role model to Midoriya than a parent. With the disclaimer this is aimed at Bungie and not ask anon or OP...

It's suspicious to me that two of the three onscreen lesbians in Destiny 2 are villains (Eramis and Maya). It's suspicious to me that, of the four onscreen confirmed WLW we've had in Destiny 2 (Eramis, Maya, Mara and Ana), the only one whose relationship with a woman is center-staged in the narrative is a villain. Where was the screentime for Ana and Camrin (who is very much alive and lurking in the background lore), or Mara and Sjur (dead-ish, but heavily hinted at finding her way back ... I wouldn't be surprised if that arc was cut)? Why is the first woman who's demonstrated romantic love for another woman onscreen, not buried in a lore book or lore tab or activity dialog that will be gone in a year ... a villain?

It's baffling to me that the two lesbian villains are posed in opposition to well-loved, fan-favorite men — Eramis vs. Misraaks, and Maya vs. Osiris and Saint. I love to joke about WLW vs. MLM hostility but it's high-key fucked up that "mean lesbian facing off against sweet old man/men" is a recurrent thing at this point.

The thing that's irritating to me about all this is ... I like wlw villains! I love a lesbian baddie! I don't think the mere inclusion of an evil sapphic actively sets representation back but ... I think it is harmful to exclusively feature evil lesbians without any protagonist WLW whose love for women takes center stage. I would not object as strongly to the "Maya Evil and Evilly in Love With Chioma" arc if Ana and Camrin had their time in the spotlight, or Mara and Sjur, because the narrative wouldn't be directly connecting "women loving women" to "falling into insanity and villainy and hurting everyone".

It's also telling to me that we're 50/50 for villain vs. hero WLW while I think all of the MLM characters are good guys. This might be an uncharitable read but it gives "aughts slashfic author who only includes girls in their story as a dramatic foil to their OTP".

Like ... I think Bungie tries to be inclusive. I love that we have an onscreen gay couple, I love that we have a narrative-relevant nonbinary character and trans woman character. Which makes their exclusion and (quite literal) vilification of half the cast of WLW upsetting.

Yes, it's just a game. No, I don't think anyone is going to be inspired to lesbophobia over it. But what does it say that such pains have been taken to give good representation to other queer groups but sapphics are left with not only crumbs, but storylines that actively paint lesbian characters as unstable, unwell, maniacal and machiavellian?

Tbh I'm very nervous about what they've been doing with Maya. Whether intentional or not, they created a foil (the Good mlm couple vs the Evil Lesbian Failwife) which was a narrative choice that makes me want to strangle someone. 2002 ass writing

At first I was glad they included a wlw character who has a very complex personality and many flaws. Lakshmi-2 was an ass, but an interesting character. I loved the grimoire entries of Maya's journal as well as Chioma's logs on Neptune, and when they started hinting at Maya being the conductor I was thrilled. But now it seems that she's just their new designated villain to take the witness's place. Spoilers for act II ending and act III :

The big reveal at the end of act II left a bittersweet taste in my mouth. Yes (a) Maya is back, in the flesh (technically?), but I couldn't help but be disappointed. If they just turn her into a "mad scientist turned villain who saw human life as expandable and should be punished for her crimes" as the new exotic mission showed as well I'll be very disappointed. I mean, we already have Clovis Bray ^^ she reminds me of the illusive man from mass effect, and I really, really hope the ending of act III will be better than the end of me3...

I want her to have a good arc. I think the way Osiris and the others judge her is unfair at times, and yeah, while finally seeing wlw content not hiding in some lore books or weapon description is nice, I hope they're not gonna push that weird wlw vs mlm narrative 💀

Five Tolkien Fics To Start You On Your Queer Journey Through Middle Earth

When it comes down to it, the world of ao3 and its other fan fiction counterparts can be a confusing place to navigate, especially for us Tolkien fans, so I have taken it upon myself to create this one stop destination for a starter pack of fan fiction (specifically queer) for the beginners in this world to enjoy! You'll get the hang of it eventually, but for now here are five fics, in no particular order, that you absolutely must read.

1. Sansûkh by determamfidd

The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors.

The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.

(Follows the story of the War of the Ring).

Notes: Let’s be real, if you’ve been in this particular circle of hell you’ve most definitely read this fic, but don't hate me for recing it first. It’s a lovely thilbo and gigolas combo that just has all the feels. Ofc there are other ships, but they’re all written beautifully. If you’re new to gigolas or thilbo you *must* read this fic. It’s practically mandatory, and if you don’t read it now you’ll read it later and regret not reading it sooner. I swear to Yavanna, just read it!

2. Love Always, Yours Forever by butterflyslinky

Tauriel, Fili and Kili pull a prank on Gimli and Legolas, who respond in kind. Things go a little too far.

Notes: This fic is a personal favorite of mine. You might even call it a guilty pleasure of sorts. While it does feel kinda cracky at the beginning (not that I mind), it'll have you sobbing by the end. I revisit this fic almost every other week. BTW it's gigolas and kiliel, and there might be a smudge of bagginsheild, but not enough for it to be mentioned in the tags.

3. I Can See You Through the Flames by LittleLynn

When Bard Bowman manages to get a job tutoring a young boy at Mirkwood Hall, he and his children move to the strange and dark estate. It does not take long for him to realise that there is something hiding amidst its walls and behind the blank mask of its mysterious lord. Despite his gut warnings that something is not as it seems, he still cannot help the foolish way that he falls for his lord and employer.

Notes: I adore this fic and I'll gush about it in just a sec, but first things first. This fic is barduil centric (bard/thranduil) and I know that that (that being Thranduil) isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I promise that if this fic doesn't make you adore him, nothing will. I personally consider barduil to be one of my Tolkien otps (up there w/thilbo and gigolas), so please, if you don't like it just move on. But.... if you're open to the idea I highly recommend this fic as an amazing starting point. Features Frerin, Thorin, Dis and them a little bit, and tiny Legolas is magnificent. It's written based upon some book, but it's totally readable without having read it. Jane Eyre, I think.

4. Smell the Sea and Feel the Sky by Thorinsmut

Captain Dwalin - a privateer for the Crown - is in love with beautiful, sweet, innocent Lady Norine.

His main rival (whom he is most definitely not in lust with) is the cockiest little man he ever met - Captain Vulpes, a pirate with a fast mongrel of a ship and a bad habit of stealing his targets out from under his nose.

...it's going to take him a while to realize they're the same genderfluid person.

Notes: Bear with me on this one, but it's a deep au (if you haven't caught on yet, I'm fond of AU's). This one has Nori/Dwailin and is a Pirate!Au with genderfluid!Nori which, especially since I'm genderfluid, I adore. Tbh this is one of my favorite fics, especially for a ship I usually only do as a side pairing. It's written beautifully, although it's a little bit more on the mature side so if heavy themes revolving sexual content aren't you're thing, I might advise you to go for one of the other fics on this list first. But seriously, this is amazing in all of the ways.

5. An Unexpected Addition by karategal

All of the dwarves survive the Battle of the Five Armies, but Bilbo must return to the Shire to sort out his old life and make way for a new one in Erebor. Over one year later, Bilbo comes back to the Lonely Mountain with a recently orphaned Frodo. King Thorin isn't quite sure what to make of this new, tiny addition to his Company.

Notes: This one has to be my absolute favorite "Frodo comes to Erebor fic", and let me tell you that there are a shitload of them (not that I'm really complaining). It's just perfectly written and characterized and the thilbo is magnificent. And just asifehihifhgh I can'tttt. It's so good. At this point I don't think I need to say much, but this is the perfect start for reading thilbo and no one can convince me otherwise.

A couple more things as this rec list comes to a close. I hope these five fits do well to start you on your gay Tolkien journey, but be forewarned, Tolkien fanfics are almost always novels. Right now that might now be your thing, if you've read fics before and are coming from another fandom, but I promise you if you give the long ones a chance they'll sway you. I used to only go for one shots but now I read these novel length stories like they're nothing. When it's written well long stories are the best. That's all for now ig, see ya tomorrow!
