First of all imagining the chaos of Orochimaru and Jiraiya’s little protégés getting together would be hilarious. Jiraiya would be the one that’s inconsolable about it tbh Oro would have more of a… healthy interest in making sure that Minato is not Jiraiya the second.

Kushina would be a terror with all of the jutsu orochimaru would teach her. Already an absolute Uzumaki powerhouse that send people running for the damn hills but with Orochimaru’s mind as a driving force behind her? T E R R I F Y I N G.

Perhaps with the bond between him and Kushina the blow of being passed over for Hokage would be lessened. Perhaps it would be even more so when he saw how trapped Minato was to his desk and he realized that all of his experiments would have to have been put on the back burner indefinitely. Perhaps he would have been, if not content but still willing to take the role of an adviser. Able to still be at the side of power without being leashed like minato was.

But, perhaps most importantly, even if Jiraiya was named as one godparent Kushina would turn to her own sensei, to the man who had taken in a fellow outcast and made her feel at home. Who had stood by her when her people were slaughtered and she was left alone. And asked him to be her future child’s other godparent.

And in the aftermath of an attack that left both of them without their students, Orochimaru would have stepped up when Jiraiya stepped back, would have hissed in the face of Danzo and Hiruzen as he lifted the child, his child now that his darling little student was gone, would have laughed in the face of anyone who tried to insinuate that Orochimaru couldn’t protect his little hatchling.

He was one of the Sannin after all.

He was the one who stayed.

He is owed this. He owes this to his student. To Jiraiya’s too as it was painfully obvious that he would rather run from his duty to the golden boy he had taught than honor his memory.

And Naruto grows up knowing his past. Knowing his family through the pictures and stories Orochimaru has. Knowing he is loved even if he has a demon sealed away in him.

Orochimaru, in turn, stays loyal if not to the village than to this boy with Kushina’s laugh and Minato’s face.

tbh i have drawn them a couple of times, but i don’t really like their designs in boruto that much. i don’t mind naruto’s shorter hair (buzz cut naruto anyone?) but the way his face is drawn in boruto often looks weird and alien. his outfit is lame and boring, which sucks because his og outfit felt very fun and quirky to me. it fit little naruto so well. this just has no vibe

sasuke is a little better i think, i like his long hair (but i miss the floof) and his outfit is better than naruto’s. a purple vest is very interesting, however, his og outfits were SO cool!! and this doesn’t live up to that. they had the opportunity to go so hard with an adult sasuke design, but they dropped everything. the purple is a good idea, but they completely lost any kind of interesting shape or texture. no skirt, no swishy shirt, no interesting necklines, no contrasts… it doesn’t evoke his family or orochimaru or itachi or naruto or sasuke’s mood or mindset the way any of his original outfits did, but it doesn’t even have the “going into wilderness and living separate from my identity” vibe the poncho did. the boruto outfit is just “vaguely fancy guy who might be a ninja, maybe”.

overall: i think naruto and sasuke’s original outfits had a very strong texture feel and shape that conveyed information about the characters. it made the world feel more realistic. in contrast, their outfits in boruto look like they could be made out of very cheap halloween costume material, and they look like they were designed by someone who doesn’t know the characters very well. it’s like a guy was handed sticky notes that said “naruto: orange. sasuke: purple and stylish” and had 20 minutes to come up with something

Fuck: Naruko, Naruto's sexy-no-jutsu form. Because I wanted to see him squirmed under my embrace. I wanted to see him being unlike his usual confident self, I wanted to make him cry. Marry: Rin Nohara. She seemed to be a kind person and would work well with children. I feel like she's the type who put other people before herself with how she decided to act in the manga. So much so that she's willing to pay the ultimate price of her life. I have no opinion on marriage ceremony so I'll chose base on what she would choose. Though, personally, I just wanted to elope with her.

Kill: If I could kill off permanently, Orochimaru for his disgustingly long list of crimes against humanity. I would create a Limited Tsukuyomi Jutsu where the worst thing he could think of would happen and cast it on him. Afterwards, I would seal off his regeneration technique, take away all his limbs, and buried him alive while stuck with a seal that sucked chakra and wait for him to die off chakra. exhaustion. Otherwise, I would choose Hiashi, for not doing anything to change the hyuga, but rather enable it. He chose to torture his brother after assuming he has killing intent toward his daughter. DID HE THINK THAT BEING FORCED TO SERVE SOMEONE AND DEDICATE YOUR LIFE TO A BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT SAW YOU AS LESSER WOULD BE FUN? I would brand him with the caged-bird curse seal and use it to cause him so much pain and make him beg for mercy. I would do this until he become a vegetable after that lifetime of pain and kill him by feeding him to pigs.

Fuck: Halle Lidner. She's hot and blonde, so basically my fetish. She seemed like a dom, so I want to dom her. I wanted to see her defiant face as I bound her to the bed, I want to make her insult me yet can only watch as I violated her. I wanted humiliate her until she become exhausted from her effort of resisting.

Fuck: Vermouth AKA Sharon Vineyard. Oh god, she's so hot that if I die after fucking her, I would still do it. I don't even mind if she dom me. IN FACT, I welcome it. I do wish for her to be gentle though. I liked how intelligent, insightful and bold she is. I also like how cruel she is yet also how she developed a conscience after being saved by Ran and Shinichi.

Marry: Miyano Shiho. I would love to be with her for the rest of my life. I really don't care how bossy and demanding she is. I love how serious and intelligent she is. She's also so pretty and old style. I wish to relax her attitude a bit after getting into a relationship with her. I don't think much of marriage ceremony and would do what she want. I would probably suggested a grand ceremony just because of how much I liked her.

Kill: Misao Yamamura because he's dumb, but thinks he's smart, and has no personality. To quote Conan, "poor Gunma Perfecture." One of the most irritating things he does is in Movie 20 when all the detectives are trying to be sneaky, and this bitch just tripped and announced to the guy that he's a police, taking advantage of getting a hostage to protect himself. What kind of police does that? He thinks that he's smart even though the children are smarter than him sometimes. Even though he's a detective, he messes up a lot and misses really obvious clues. Plus, he's scared of everything, like blood and dead bodies, and he's superstitious, believing in curses and ghosts. He even ditches his job to grab lunch instead of doing what he's supposed to. And when it comes to Gunma, he's pretty clueless about it, needing locals to correct him on stuff despite being based in it. I don't know how I could choose a single method when I'm so tired of this guy. Honestly, I just wanted to push him off a skyscraper and not look back.

Kishimoto, why is Deidara's first appearance is him being upside down during Akatsuki's zoom meeting?

(which is supposedly the first one in 7 years since Orochimaru ditched them, but whatever, no fucking way these guys can remain semi-organized without a good old online meetup, I do not care for canon's opinion when it conflicts with my funny headcanons)

But seriously, it's been almost 10 years since I read the manga for the first time and there's still no explanation as to why Deidara did that LMAO. Logic dictates that it's simply Kishimoto not finishing up the designs for his new villains (rinnegan's design wasn't finalized until, like, Akatsuki Supression arc, I believe? there's someone TOWERING over Kisame who is 195cm already and at the end of the day remains Akatsuki's tallest member, etc etc), but I've got a PhD in overthinking Naruto details and turning them into shitposts that sometimes also turn into fanfiction, so I will take this one tiny detail and make myself laugh until I cry.

To me this moment is just so precious because it's actually a scene from OG Naruto, meaning that it's pre-timeskip, so Deidara here is only 16. And this just proves to me that Deidara's puberty (there is no exact indicator as to when Deidara was abducted recruited into Akatsuki, but I assume it happened sometime when he was 12, because during his recruitment we see Itachi (and we know that he joined Akatsuki after the massacre, so he was 13 and he's got a 2 year difference with Deidara), Kisame (who, judging by his pre-death flashbacks, joined AFTER Itachi, meaning some time had to have passed since the massacre) and Sasori (who wouldn't have a partner after Itachi joined because Orochimaru just couldn't resist trying to get that Sharingussy, but Akatsuki don't operate on their own in general, so I doubt Sasori would have been left without a partner for a long time, a year max) and during this zoom meeting 16-year-old Deidara speaks like he's very much aligned with Akatsuki's goals and grudges which would be very weird if he joined them against his will just recently, so a year or more would have to pass between Deidara's recruitment and the OG Naruto zoom meeting) was arguably one of the worst things that organization as a whole had to go through because teenage Deidara was JUST BUILT DIFFERENT.

Don't mind the fact that even as an adult he starts tweaking if he doesn't get to explode something every few hours (I would imagine that teenage rage and angst would only exacerbate this issue), but he would also just want to "look cool" and wouldn't listen to anyone in any position of authority AT ALL. Going back to this scene of Akatsuki's zoom call, we can see (and for certain characters assume because once again designs here are kind of wack) that these overly serious members like Pain, Konan, Kakuzu and Sasori are PRESENT and just... don't do anything about Deidara's antics? They just gave up at some point LMAO. And a while ago, I presume.

I also don't believe that it was ever specified how Nagato's zoom jutsu works, but I think Akatsuki's members simply sit in whatever position they want and their projection is different from their actual position which means that. yeah. honestly props to Onoki for finding a way to both continue using Deidara's skills for his goals (by just fucking paying Akatsuki and calling it a day) and keep the village intact, teenage Deidara just seems like the trial version of what Akatsuki members could expect on their missions. like, if you can't manage the stress of dealing with the (pony)tailed beast, you have no business trying to fight an actual tailed beast.

I'm also thinking that adult Deidara aka Shippuden Deidara would think himself really cringe for doing this shit when he was younger and feels kind of embarrassed in front of the other members (who unfortunately besides Hidan were there to witness his cringe bat phase of growing up in your local terrorist daycare organization), so he's pretty quiet during the zoom meetings when we get properly introduced to him.

That's, of course, until Deidara gets partnered with Tobi.

I can imagine the two of them competing who can last longer hanging upside down and now Pain really can't do anything to stop this bullshit because it's his actual boss and his clueless partner making their own bat nest during their zoom meeting. He just tiredly glances over at Konan who gives him a "I told you Yahiko was right and we shouldn't have joined forces with this guy, but when do you ever listen to me" look.

The gang would be discussing something like Kakuzu and Hidan brutally murdering Asuma (who's Obito's classmate btw and whose mother he already killed a while ago) and trying to steal his corpse to sell for some cash and in the background above them Tobi'll be yelling something like "senpai, watch what I can do" and start turning cartwheels on the ceiling.

tl;dr Obito and Deidara match each other's freak when it comes to doing weird shit for no apparent reason other than to fuck with everyone while on the job. thanks for coming to my TobiTalk

Something I find neat about Orochimaru is that we as the audience/fans can clearly see that everything he went through (losing his family young, being labelled as scary or "not human" by the village, being at once both praised by Sarutobi and regarded as Potentially Evil by him from the age of six, war trauma, the time in ROOT, etc.) did a lot to shape them into what he becomes...

But at the same time, Orochimaru never claims that her past caused this. There's no grand "bad shit happened to me so now everyone must pay" speech. If anything that stuff is kept hidden as we don't learn most of it until we see flashbacks right as he's about to die. The only reasoning Oro ever gives is just basically, "Because I want to."

And idk there's something cool to me about a villain who has been through a lot of shit, but even then doesn't make excuses for their actions.

I actually think that THE funniest time travel concept, like, ever, acrually, would be team Taka + Orochimaru and maybe Mitsuki going from either boruto or directly before boruto into almost anywhere in Naruto Shippuden

Specifically them at the weird impass they have where they're all just apparently cool with Orochimaru now, and Orochimaru is living the good life as a stay at home mom (slash still mad scientist but with slightly less corpses involved)

No matter where you drop them into naruto shippuden it's just really, really fucking funny

Like you have this sliding scale for how visibly insane Orochimaru is at any given moment in canon vs just him peacefully living out the stay at home mom dream w this team of people that, at wome points in time, he was ACTIVLEY TORTURING !!! But they're just?? Cool now???? And Orochimaru isn't even explicitly in charge and will sometimes deffer to them (Sasuke specifically) ?????????

Make it funnier and make them a proper functional family dynamic of some kind, no one knows how they got there (it's probably largley in part bc of Mitsuki)

Honestly I really like Mitsuki (I've been more tempted to watch/read boruto than actual naruto JUST for him actually, I love snake characters) and I've seen a couple time travel fics for him floating around but I always wish there were more. He's so funny !!! And the concept of him not only being Orochimaru's recognized son but also regarding Orochimaru as a good parent, is fucking insane to literally ANYONE at ANY point in time of naruto canon !!! I want to see people do more w that !!!!

The only thing holding me back at this point is I know very little ab the specifics of team Taka outside of the handful of good them-centered fics I've been able to find. So I don't think I could enjoyably write them while feeling confident in their characterization

i think it'd be better if it was minato personally bc technically kakashi didn't so much as kill rin as happen to be an extremely convenient gun for her to shoot herself with bc she was a brainwashed child convinced she needed to die for a village that never gave a shit about her in the first place. i don't think she'd blame kakashi for her death at all; at most i think she'd be mad that his takeaway from all that was "i should serve the state harder, and raise more child soldiers for them" (the last part he didn't particularly want to do but. rin doesn't know that. and probably doesn't care much either tbh)

it's possible that part of it is me wanting some form at all of calling minato out on his bullshit bc while naruto gets in a gutpunch the only other time the narrative really addresses it is when sasuke resurrects him and he tells hiruzen what's going on isn't his fault (lol. lmao) but minato's bc he died during the kyuubi attacked and maybe could've prevented the massacre if he'd lived which is. a helluva a lot to hear from the man who chose killing himself to make sure the village didn't lose its precious enslaved chakra monster and condemning his infant son to a miserable childhood (and kushina to death but to be fair nobody knew she could be saved by resealing the kyuubi in her. ofc they would have found that out if minato hadn't been determined to avoid potential single dad-hood, but...)

it could work just fine with kakashi as well but he kinda already hates himself so it feels a little pointless. i think minato could use that bit of self-reflection more frankly

Obviously keeping Lee from being squashed like a bug is a higher priority than her secrets, but right now she’s really cursing Gaara for putting her in this position. Specifically, in her father’s office with her parents and the three saanin. It really feels like Orochimaru shouldn’t be here, at least, but he followed Jiraiya and no one had stopped him.

“It’s not a big deal,” she says, arms crossed. “I’ve seen you do it a million times.”

“It’s an intense burden on your chakra coils,” her father says, frowning.

She stares, biting back the retort she can feel on the tip of her tongue.

“I think she knows,” Orochimaru says dryly. “Seeing as she’s done it.”

“You be quiet,” Minato orders. Orochimaru rolls his eyes.

Kushina grabs onto her arm, tugging on it in a way that makes her want to pull it out of her grip and escape out the window, but she knows better. Her father knows she can do the Flash now, but obviously he can to. She’s pretty sure she can’t outrun him. “Honey, why did you – you can’t, it’s dangerous, you really shouldn’t strain yourself like this-”

“It’s fine,” she says. “Mom, relax. It’s not like I do it all the time.”

Where people can see her, anyway.

“You could be hurting yourself,” she insists. “Tsunade, come here, take a look at her.”

Naruto takes a step back, but her mother doesn’t let go of her arm. “No thanks. I’m fine. I didn’t even get hurt in my preliminary match.”

A ninja from Grass that she almost felt bad for. It was more effort to not make it look so easy than it was to defeat him.

“Pull up your shirt, Naruto,” her father says. “We should take a look at your seal. Just in case.”

Her blood goes cold. Before she can think up an excuse, Kushina is yanking up the hem her orange long sleeve to just below her chest. “Mom!”

“Is it bothering you? Are you feeling okay?” she asks, not even looking at her, instead staring at her stomach. She almost asks if her mother is asking the Kyuubi or her, but that would be a bad idea for several reasons.

She feels bad about this, but she pulls away from her mother, prying her hand off of her arm. “The seal is fine.”

“Here, this will only take a moment,” Jiraiya says, hand outstretched.

She’s debating using the Flash to get away, even though she knows that will just make everything worse in the long term, when Orochimaru flash steps to directly in front of her, blocking them all from getting to her, and presses his cool hand against her abdomen. She feels chakra moving against her skin and she’s about to shove a kunai in either his hand or his skull when he steps back and says, “The seal is fine. You’re all over reacting. Can we move on now?”

Naruto can hear her pulse pounding in her hears, fear and confusion swirling inside of her.

“Orochimaru!” Minato snaps.

Jiraiya puts an arm on her father’s shoulder. “I’ll just take a look-”

“As if you know more than I do,” Orochimaru scoffs.

Jiraiya’s mouth drops open. “I’m a seal master!”

Orochimaru raises an eyebrow. “Everyone in this room is a seal master. You’re not special.”

Naruto doesn’t move a muscle. He’s obviously not talking about her. Right?

“You can’t just put your hands on my daughter!” Kushina shouts, as if that’s not exactly what she’d been asking Jiraiya and Tsunade to do.

It quickly devolves into an all out shouting match between them. Naruto edges towards the window then slips down, quickly darting between buildings. Anyone looking for her will expect her to take the roofs.

Orochimaru couldn’t have created that distraction for her on purpose, could he? Why would he? He doesn’t even know her. Maybe he’s not as a good a seal master as he thinks he is and he really hadn’t noticed anything off about her seal.

Everyone always looks for her at the Uchiha compound first, and recently the second place they look is the Harunos. Any of her friends are too obvious and she doesn’t really feel like giving some ANBU the slip right now.

She heads to the apartments near the academy and knocks on a small apartment on the third floor. The door opens and she takes a step forward, resting her forehead against his chest. “Hi. Can I hide here?”

They’ll forget about it or get too distracted to care after a couple hours. At most a day.

Iruka sighs and curls his arm around her back, tugging her into a hug that settles almost all her irritation at once. “Of course, Naruto.”

after being broken down by so many people she cares about dying, she dips and leaves behind ninja society, which has taken everything from her (including wiping out her clan)

because Tsunade is also one of the most legendary/strongest ninja alive, no one could really stop her or chain her down. It takes the conviction of a child who wants her to save the village and heal his friends to get her back to Konoha, despite the all the trauma she's endured

she's a medic with a fear of blood that overcomes that to fight her own teammate and beat his ass so Orochimaru stops killing and maiming people

she steps up to be a leader because it's what the new generation need and someone has to fix all the stuff broken by her selfish teammates and old teacher
