look, i know everyone said that the new interview with the vampire show was incredible but holy shit i was not prepared for how incredible this show is

like, not only is louis interesting now, he is incredibly compelling! his once-bland internal dilemma is now given actual weight because it's not just the same old Thou Shalt Not Kill But I Am Hungry story, it's tempered through his righteous fury at how black people have been treated all these years, how many people have wronged him and laughed and expected him to laugh along, how his ties to the community that once saved him are now turning to nooses around his throat, how his family that he once provided for and relied on have now come to fear him

that, combined with his explicit homosexuality, and with lestat being the only one who seemed to accept him and love him for all that he is, and how that is both comforting and incredibly toxic and combined with sam reid's insane charisma and mania and gravity as lestat that make it completely understandable why louis would still be drawn to him in spite of everything

and how they've used the changes from the original to this one to examine how memory shifts regarding someone who was so intense and formative in your life even if they were ultimately so controlling and abusive but still left such huge gouges in your personality like knives

Do you have illustrations for your mottley crew of couriers? I think it’d be fun to meet Zhee, Paint, the other crewmembers who’s names I can’t remember, and the various Captains over the course of Robin’s trips.

I have sketchy drawings of some of them! I never did decide whether Heatseekers have those little head-fins or not, but it seemed right:

Plus there are close to 20 comics that I drew well before writing the current short stories, which I'll say take place after those stories. (This has turned out to be a complicated timeline for a character I originally thought would just live in a couple pieces of flash fiction.)

one thing about me is that i WILL be giving all of my ocs a half dozen names/nicknames/middle names/original names/epithets like they're daenerys stormborn of house targaryen , first of her name, the unburnt, queen of the andals, the rhoynar and the first men, queen of meereen, khaleesi of the great grass sea, protector of the realm, lady regant of the seven kingdoms, breaker of chains, the mother of dragons :)

#oc: vierynrae #this is about viera specifically but theyre all fucking like this lol #viera is vierynrae. viera to her friends. but vierie to her doomed-by-the-narrative lovers #she was also originally viera (means 'black quarry'). vierynrae ('black rebel/heretic') is her elven adult name (to spite lolth)#the black element being a lil easter egg foreshadowing to her eventual warlock pact which began changing her hair from silver to black :)#she goes by her old name on the surface for convenience and bc she thinks it makes her sound unassuming #and she has several titles. diabolist of neverwinter being the main but she has a bunch of underground/seldarine resistance specific too #i just. love Naming things. i lov e when a name has iceberg levels of lore yknow

Love how the new PLL writers were like okay FINE fans were right to point out that A was never really a slasher villain and continuing to use that moniker for these new villains is a slap in the face to the original evil girlbosses-- Mona, Cece, and Ello Spensah-- who worked 👏 hard 👏 scheming and stooging (sometimes YEARS of preparation!) in order to torture the original liars...... so for these new girls we will call the villains B instead :)

*Grabs you by the throat* Listen to me you TMAGP-loving freaks. Listen to me right now. RedCanary might be the host for this universe's Jonah Magnus.

This is under the assumption that TMAGP takes place in a parallel universe that may or may not have already had the fears in it prior to Jon releasing them at the end of TMA.

RedCanary goes to explore the Magnus Institute ruins. They become paranoid because the Eye is watching them. They pick up a wooden box with strange symbols carved into it. They go to put it back. Next we hear from them, they post an image of gouged out eyes with the caption "Canaries should stay above ground."

They found the tunnels, hence that caption. Then they found Jonah Magnus's body sitting down there, waiting for a new host.

In this universe, the Magnus Institute burned down in 1999. Maybe in this universe Gertrude went through with her original plan of burning the place to the ground after finding out Elias was actually Jonah in 1997. Either way, let's say Jonah's original body is down there, maybe with Elias's body and his eyes and all that, and with his plans foiled, he's just chilling down there waiting for an opportunity which RedCanary then gives him. This is my going theory due to the specificity of the caption "canaries should stay above ground" (referring to the tunnels, and also it being in third-person) and the fact that RedCanary themselves would be pretty unlikely to be able to post that picture of THEIR OWN EYES GOUGED OUT unless it was Magnus assuming their body and identity and being a freak about it.

But there's more.

Narratively speaking, it makes sense for the third voice in the computer to be Jonah Magnus, right? If Jon and Martin ended up in this universe as voices in a computer, the only other person sharing their fate would have to be Magnus, given how TMA ended. Recall, also, the boot-up sequence in the trailer of TMAGP.

Jonathan, Martin, and Jonah, right? Unless Augustus is gonna be a new J name or this is just an unrelated easter egg but like. It's Jonah right?? Right??? And he's watching the O.I.R.A through the systems like a good little voyeur, and Colin knows it!

So now we possibly have TWO Jonah Magnuses in this universe!! That's absurd!! One from the TMAGP universe now loose and running around in RedCanary's body, and one from the TMA universe trapped in a computer. But if this is true...doesn't that mean there would be two Jons and Martins too?

And listen...I'm thinking about what Jonny and Alex said during that liveshow panel about this story's themes regarding "what makes a human." If we dare to hope that Jon and Martin (and Jonah, if it's his voice in the computer) are going to gain consciousness and once again become proper characters...then, are they going to simply stay in the computer? Or are they going to "manifest" physically? Are they going to UPLOAD themselves into THEIR OWN TMAGP UNIVERSE BODIES?

@doomatix and I have been going crazy over these theories and they were the one that initially considered RedCanary's new identity as Jonah Magnus. Are our facts wrong? Does any of this even make sense? We haven't seen anyone else posting about this particular theory. Someone help us we are rotting. And don't even get me started on how GWEN would fit into this--

The worst part is I was told this in response to saying I didn’t like Derringer Meryl not having her derringers in stampede until a man gave her one at the end of the season and I was being told this was a deep cut manga reference that I just didn’t get bc it was a prequel story when

1. She is 21 at the beginning of the manga and 23 at the beginning of stampede

2. The panel they’re referencing is a sequence of her thinking back on the first time she had to shoot someone bc it’s just a part of her daily life and she reflects back on when her FATHER taught her to shoot as a CHILD because she wanted to live and travel on her own as an adult and it was something instilled in her that she should be able to protect herself which is such a wildly different characterization choice and it’s just crazy to imply these portrayals and her writing in both are the same and if we claim otherwise we just didn’t read the manga actually.

It’s a weird thing I’ve noticed a lot of people do while defending some choices in stampede, any complaint is just met with “actually that choice is a deep cut manga reference that you just missed”, oftentimes with zero proof as if they’re just calling 98 fans bluff on if they’ve ever actually read the manga. And I mean I guess the bluff works because I never see people talk about this lol

I’m sorry but I don’t think Trigun stampede is a prequel at all

The only grounds for that interpretation is the destruction of Julai happening, but if it was a prequel telling of Trimax most of the cast would be children during the events of Julai

Meryl is literally older in stampede than she is at the start of Trimax and wolfwood’s vague age in every version isn’t implied to be any different here, we’re meeting him at the same stage of his life.

I just think it’s a reimagining of the manga that wanted to use the Julai incident as a set piece instead of a flashback and it’s not that much deeper than that. Way too much is changed around plot lore and character wise to call it a prequel to the manga, it’s just their rearranging of everything involved rearranging when what events happened.

#i think we just need to acknowledge that stampede is a /reimagining/ of the source material #and just bc something is a good /show/ that doesn’t make it a good /adaptation/ necessarily #bc imo a very rearranged version of the story with heavy rewrites that just /references/ the source material via constant Easter eggs isn’t?#an amazing approach to adapting #esp something that’s never gotten a faithful adaptation in the first place #which again doesn’t mean it’s bad you could like the changes more than the original and that’s valid #but it’s weird that there’s this ‘well it’s different because it’s a prequel and u can’t criticize it yet’#vibe when it’s very much not a prequel at all #anyway #glad I got this off my chest stampede Meryl u are Meryl Stryfes very cute lovveable distant cousin

Gabriel’s (missing) cross

Let’s put everything we know about that spooky statue of the Archangel Gabriel in one thread to make the conversation about its possible meaning as a Good Omens 3 clue more structured. Starting off with the relevant part of the official commentary from X-Ray:

Douglas Mackinnon got one thing wrong in his part of the interview — Gabriel wasn’t carved by “some guy in Italy,” but a British sculptor and prop maker David Field working as a part of the team at 3DEye in London.

Technically speaking, it’s a gorgeous piece of hand-carved expanded polystyrene with a clay sculpted head on top of it — even if the Archangel’s smug likeness isn’t that pleasant to look at, all things considered. The scenic artists from 3DEye made it look like stone afterwards.

The body itself took ten days to sculpt and is a faithful copy of the famous statue on Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome called Angel with the Cross by Ercole Ferrata. It stands on the inscription “Cuius principatus super humerum eius” (“Whose government shall be upon His shoulder”, Isaiah 9:16), and this quote makes much more sense for Gabriel than the cross in his hands. The usual iconography of the Archangel uses a trumpet or a white lily instead.

Ponte Sant'Angelo was originally used to expose the heads of those sentenced to death — each of the angelic statues on it carry Arma Christi, the Instruments of the Passion. Like the Second Coming, what seems to be a hopeful message to the Chosen Ones can also be a warning for the others.

The statue of Gabriel, first shown in full in the cemetery scene of the Good Omens 2 title sequence, reappears at the very end as a part of the bridge leading to the biggest Easter egg — at least according to Peter Anderson, the animator behind it — which is the lift in the background, implying how we’re getting closer towards the Second Coming. Notice how the cross broke down in half at some point between these two scenes!

And it disappears in the plot as well: Gabriel’s memory depicts it only from his point of view, with the camera deliberately moving slightly to the right and stopping at his eye level. The centered, establishing shots show the statue with empty hands as a bookend.

I believe that this cross is meant to serve as a foreshadowing, a reminder of the absolution of sins and eternal life through Christ’s sacrifice and Second Coming. We see it only through Gabriel and Aziraphale’s eyes — when Beelzebub looks at the statue, the cross is not there.

As seen in the BTS photos and videos, it’s not an editing error, but a deliberate positioning of the physical props on set. The cross was clearly meant to be a removable part of the statue and displayed in a specific way to convey a message to the audience.

The question remains: is it a reassurance, something to look forward to, or maybe rather a warning?

Not helpfully at all, the traditional use of angelic imagery in Christian cemeteries matches both interpretations.
