Soundwave is a powerhouse and an enigma and we don't talk about it enough so i'mma just gonna make a compilation of "how the hell did he do that" and "what the hell is he" moments that i've managed to find from across several transformers continuities
first off is from the first IDW comic continuity
Tumblr media
this is never explained, so i can only assume its because soundwave is technically an outlier but i haven't seen a panel that shows other outliers having "off the scale" readings, whatever that means.
Tumblr media
and then in the last moments of this continuity he sacrifices himself to save the universe/earth by using his outlier ability along with the enigma of combination to essentially connect the dead to the living in the entire galaxy for a hot minute . idk how the hell he did that or how he knew to do that, my money is on bad writing but i digress.
next up Transformers Prime
Tumblr media
tfp fans: elaborate on that. tfp writers: no. transformers prime soundwave is definitely a powerhouse and an enigma for several reasons but number one is this god damn scene with ratchet exclaiming soundwave isn't your standard cybertronian and then to my frustration the show refuses to explain why.
Tumblr media
also he can open portals. the only explanation for that is in the novels where he actually was part of the invention of spacebridge technology. i guess he could've incorporated that into himself, which frankly is kinda unheard of in of itself. but still I feel inclined to tell him that skywarp called and they want their powers back.
Next, we have the game Transformers: fall of cybertron. where he scavenges together all of megatrons parts and puts him back together which, yeah sure why not? it's essentially like putting a corpse back together but then he just REVIVES HIM??
Tumblr media
with his mind completely intact despite having been decimated by Metroplex and being dead for several hours. excuse me sir but that shouldn't be possible. I guess I could just chop it up to the writers being a bit loosey goosey with their own rules for the world but it's still quite a feat. but thinking back to G1 where he did the same thing with skyfire I guess they assumed it's just something he can do?
Tumblr media
although skyfire's revival was a bit more reasonable considering he was still in one piece and frozen solid which they explained to be the reason as to why he was kept intact. but I'm assuming that's why the writers were like "well let's just have him do the same thing for megatron" and everyone was like yeah okay why not. also like a lot of things in G1 this inbuilt high voltage canon/defibrillator is never brought up again which is hilarious and par for the course for G1.
there are several more moments throughout all the tf continuities where soundwave just does something inexplicable but these are a some of the moments that stuck out to me the most. I welcome others to add onto this post if they wish. because I'm sure I've missed some "how the hell did he do that" moments that would be a shame not to bring up.

Got nothing new today. Just been replaying Transformers Fall of Cybertron recently and reliving childhood memories. (I also needed a place to permanently upload this GIF so I can link it in other places) Gosh, Grimlock was so cool in it.

It's been three of these, first the Hilda one, then the Digimon one, and finally one of the Transformers on the same day that the Digimon one came out. Crazy, I'm not trying to inspire people to show their spirit of what they love and immortalize it in a drawing.

SO …
according under an australian classification board (forgive me idk the name of it, i got this alleged news from a TF youtuber by the name of SwizzPrime lol), there are two transformers video games under works at microsoft studios. one is an orginal and the other is a modification.
others, and including myself, are speculating that these two games are the cybertron games. war for cybertron and fall of cybertron, respectively. most likely a full on remake of WFC, and then FOC being modified/remastered for consoles and pc.
if this news turns out to be true … I WILL EXPLODE
HOPEFULLY WE GET A REVEAL OF SOME KIND ON TF DAY

Head Canon for Whumptober
So it'll be my first whumptober and doing some Transformers writing but I wanted to post a main post where my ideas are coming from and where it can be a one stop shop on my page.
So I am going to be writing about Grimlock as my whumper? whumpee? Not sure but he is one of my all time favorite characters and I think the story of War of Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron really makes his story a place to explore as well as the other dinobots!
For this whumptober I will be drawing from a personal head canon I have of that story line with Grimlock and the other dinobots. I am sure there is official lore for some of this stuff but this writing will be more fanfic then anything. But here we go.
Before the Dinobots, in an Era of Peace
Grimlock and the other "dinobots" at this time before the war were not the dinosaur alt forms we know them as. Instead at this time they were a group of mining bots that mainly worked smelting different ores into metals or energon.
The team:
Grimlock (team lead)
Slag (Smelter)
Sludge (Miner)
Snarl (Miner)
Swoop (Utility)
Slash (Transporter)
Skar (medical staff)
Paddles (Just hangs out lol)
Begrudgingly these bots did their jobs day in and day out on Cybertron. Most of the other bots stayed out of their way due to their hot headed nature but together they are a close tight family. Grimlock is that type of bot that is the fasteners to bolts, the wax that sticks to the exterior. He knows exactly how to deescalate Slag's temper, make Snarl feel included and always invites Paddles to the gangs bar outings. He loves his family and knows they are the best team on Cybertron!
During this time, Swoop always admired Grimlock. They are always following Grimlock around, talking and hanging out but too afraid to share their stronger feelings with him. It takes a major event to finally get Swoop to admit their feelings but at this point it might be too late...
When the war begins, Grimlock had his team stay neutral till a group of Decepticons tried to take their hard earned energon stash. Grimlock and the others destroyed them in battle and all of them had an epiphany of sorts. They all loved to fight. Optimus Prime came to them in a time of need and they all gladly joined as long as a fight was promised. Grimlock and his team became elite shock troopers for the Autobot cause. They were the first to fight, clearing path after path for Autobot armies as the civil war kept growing across Cypertron. A bond already forged by iron was now forged by fire as they all engaged in battle together. They were unstoppable, until they weren't.
Disaster Strikes
Near the end of the war Optimus sends Grimlock and his crew to disrupt a Decepticon supply chain, but once they arrived it was actually an ambush planned by Shockwave. For cycles Shockwave was studying the team to learn how to break them and he found that their special constructed mining bodies were perfect for alt form experiments. Shockwave takes them in, separated them into different labs and began to change them into monstrous forms. Sacrificing their minds to give them more servos, more metal, more primal. Upon waking up Grimlock goes into a rampage, frees his team and they escape through a space bridge to a Jurassic age Earth where they have to face their new forms.
Whumptober Writing
So my writing will start at different points in between the small timeline I outlined. I am not sure how many people will actually read this but keep a close eye to the post as I update it next month.

My history with Transformers
So the Transformers franchise is officially 40 years old. It's pretty amazing how an inherently silly concept like alien robots who turn into cars has lasted this long and shaped so many childhoods.
Every fan's introduction to it, young and old, is different so I'd like to share my own story:
I watched a lot of cartoons and animated movies as a kid, quite a few of which had fantastical elements. But for some reason, I was the type of kid who didn't care for superheroes or giant robots. I knew of Transformers from an old VHS trailer for Armada, as well as that McDonald's ad for Hamtaro and Transformers toys, but that was as far as my knowledge of the franchise went.
It wasn't until 2007 when my brother got Michael Bay's Transformers movie for Christmas. I'd seen one toy advert for it but hadn't give it any other thought. When he asked me if I wanted to watch it with him, I shrugged and said: "...Yeah, sure, whatever." So the next day, we sat down and watched it. After it had finished, he found it okay... but I, on the other hand, was completely mesmerized throughout the whole movie.
Everything about it astounded me: the action, the visuals, the distinctive designs of each robot, the way the parts of every vehicle folded into every robot's body. Now I finally saw how neat giant transforming robots could be.
If I remember correctly, my favourite Autobot was a tie between Jazz (the cool guy of the group) and Optimus (the big badass truck with the awesome voice). And my favourite Decepticon was Bonecrusher mainly due to his wicked design with the wheeled feet and that claw on his back, along with the fact he was the only one other than Megatron with the ball bearings to fight Optimus (I was really bummed I couldn't play as him in the PS2 game LOL). Afterwards, the very first Transformers toy I owned was Deluxe Class Wreckage which I bought from a charity shop.
It's pretty safe to say that from that point onward, I was hooked on Transformers (the Bay films at least, before I learned the problems with them later down the line). I saw the two sequels, started collecting the toys, drew the characters, played the tie-in games, and even called Dark of the Moon my favourite movie at one point.
While the fourth film was being developed, I was hungry for some more Transformers content. So I decided to try giving one of the TV shows a chance. I was unsure where to start, until I discovered a clip of Optimus and Megatron fighting from Transformers: Prime which has just finished its first season. My interest peaked, I watched the whole show and found that I loved it even more than the Bay films, finding all the characters, stories, action and humour to be major improvements. At present, it's still my favourite Transformers show. (Arcee's my favourite 'Bot while Knock Out and Starscream are tied for my favourite 'Cons)
In-between Prime's mid-season breaks, I also took the time to watch the original G1 cartoon, including the 1986 movie. It was nice to go back to the franchise's original toyetic and silly yet still adventurous and enjoyable '80s roots. Despite having been spoiled on Optimus Prime's death years in advance, it still got me emotional (that soundtrack kicks ASS).
I even bought and played the War for/Fall of Cybertron games on PS3, loving the epic scale and the robot designs which seemed like a sleek blend of G1 and Prime. It was also my first time playing a Transformers game that took place entirely on Cybertron rather than Earth, which was really cool.
Suffice to say, all this exposure to different Transformers content and having fun comparing them had strengthened my love for it. And despite now knowing full well how nonsensical, repetitive and dull the movies were by comparison, I decided to give Age of Extinction a fair chance once it finally came out... it blew. XD I didn't even bother to watch The Last Knight later, and from what I've read up on it, I didn't miss much.
And since then, my subjection to other Transformers avenues has only grown:
I watched a tiny bit of Robots in Disguise (2015) but didn't find it as engaging as Prime
Watched all of Animated (fun show, really should rewatch it at some point)
Found Bumblebee to be the best live-action movie with a touching smaller-scale story, slicker action and more memorable villains (thank you, Travis Knight)
Got to meet David Sobolov at a convention (really cool guy) and compliment him on his performance as Shockwave
Checked out all of Beast Wars (R.I.P. Dinobot)
Watched the wholesomeness that is EarthSpark (don't care what anyone says, it's great)
Had a fun time with Rise of the Beasts (loved this version of Mirage)
And I may go to TFNation this year to meet David Kaye, Gregg Berger and Kathreen Khavari. Hopefully in the future, I can meet Peter Cullen and Frank Welker as well!
So, yeah, that's my vividly detailed history with Transformers. In spite of the degrading quality of the Bay sequels, I still have a soft spot for the first movie. The effects and action sequences (especially Blackout's introduction, Scorponok's attack and the highway fight) still blow my mind, and it was the movie that struck a chord with me and prompted me to dip my toes into the vast ocean of this franchise.
And I'm incredibly thankful that I did. It's brought me so much joy over the years and I could never imagine my life without it.
